Yosemite; MBP Retina 13" can't auto-sleep

This is the first time it has happened to me.
Today I was using my MBP and usually when I leave it for a while, the laptop will auto-sleep, but not today.
So I went online and searched for any possible solutions. And one of the ways to find out which process is preventing sleep is using Terminal and pmset -g assertions, which I did. This is the report.

There were a few threads about it, but nothing seemed to work for me. I tried resetting my PRAM and nothing's different.
This was the thread I referred to which has the most similar issue, but no solutions seemed to surface.
Bluetooth drivers prevent system from sleeping in Mavericks - what's going on!?
ANYONE CAN HELP?

I have exactly same issue
but the process prevented sleep is PreventUserIdleSystemSleep named: "com.apple.audio.context91"
I found the number after "context" is not fixed, sometime it changes, however, i think it always relates to audio driver or something.
i had a lengthy chat with apple support, and first level support doesnt really help much all the things they wanted me to try have been done before i called in, so I was transferred to one of their senior support members after almost two hours online with them. Then the only thing senior member did was just set me up a store appointment right after she got my case, she said it's hardware issue......but my macbook pro is brand new.....i didnt go anyway since i dont think it's hardware problem.
what I did eventually is that manually kill whatever prevents sleep. you can use kill -9 pid to kill it
then it works fine. but this is just a workaround. I hope apple could soon release a fix.

  • MBP Retina Wi-Fi disconnect during sleep

My late 2013 MBP Retina 15-inch (Software  OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)) loses Wi-Fi when it goes to sleep, about 80% of the time.  I can quickly reconnect by choosing "Turn Wi-Fi off" from the menu bar, and then turning it on again, but it's still a pain.  My iMac does not drop Wi-Fi, so I don't think it's the Airport router.  Any suggestions?

  • Does my macbook pro retina 2015, can go deep sleep with sd card inside it?

I heard some problems about MacBooks don't going to deep sleep if an sd card is inside it.
I have an sd card with my media, because I don't want my macbook full and I wanted to know if he can go to deep sleep with an sd card inside.
If I just need to unmount it for it to go to sleep but can leave it there, I head there's an app that can solve that easy called Jettison.
    Can you help me please?
    Thanks in advance!

I've had the same problem after a software update since early March this year. Wondered it might be the update of Safari 4.0.5 or ProKit 5.1. Although I took them to the apple store in london last week, they deleted sleepimage in Terminal and then it turned out nothing changed. However, they just haven't got any clue at all. Then, the other day I tried adding a new user account and removing battery then pressed power button for 5 secs, either way did not work. Indeed we should get their attention. btw, i'm using a mid2008 15" macbook pro on 10.5.8.

  • MBP retina won't start from sleep

My MBP will go into sleep mode after 15-20 mminutes.  If I hit a key it will typically start right back up.  If I'm gone for 20-30 minutes or so...it won't restart.  I have to completely power down and then start it up again

Not bloody likely.  The update will have to come from Logitech, Steer Mouse, or USB Overdrive.  Apple follows a set of USB HID standards it has since it started using USB 14 years ago.  What it says is that these mice don't follow the same standard.

  • Can iPad Air sleep when cover closed be disabled?

An advertised feature of the function of the iPad Air is to automatically enter sleep when the Smart Cover is closed. My wife tends to start listening to a YouTube movie in bed and then closes the cover of her original iPad so that the display goes out and continues to listen to the audio. I'm considering getting her a new iPad Air, but wonder if the auto-sleep feature will interfere with how she is used to doing things. Can the auto-sleep feature be disabled? Can it be made to only affect the display and still allow audio streaming to continue? Apologies if I am just behind the times -- we currently have no iOS7-capable devices.

The Auto Lock can be turned off, but it will not put the screen to sleep. You can cover the iPad and the video will continue to play, but the screen will not turn black and go into sleep mode. You will simply be covering the screen.
When you put the iPad to sleep, YouTube Videos will quit playing. You can no longer play YouTube Videos in the background in iOS 7.

  • Pressing the bottom of new MBP retina makes crunching/clicking sound

When i gently press the bottom of my mbp retina i can hear crunching and clicking sounds on one of the bottom sides (right side if the notebook is upside down). The other side of the bottom doesn't squeak at all. Have you guys faced this problem? Do they replace notebooks with assembly issues?

It's covered by a 1 year warranty, you can make an appointment at your local Apple Store or AASP to have it looked at. Sounds at best are hard to troubleshoot. If you suspect the HD please check out the Failing hard drive sounds link.

  • MBP Retina running warm with Yosemite....

My MBP retina display is running warm since installing Yosemite. I also get an occasions "not-responding" items in red on my activity monitor. I can close them but they come back every once in a while.
A little background: I had Yosemite uninstalled and reinstalled to try and fix the issue, but it came back after having the Apple guys reinstall Yosemite.
The computer isn't really hot, but I can hear the fans on low, which I never heard before. Previously, I couldn't hear the fans at all unless I was stressing the computer out.
Any ideas? I can post a picture of the Activity Monitor with the items in red. I'll be heading into Apple if I can't figure out what's wrong. Thanks for any help ahead of time.
    Justin

Thanks for the tip.  I entered the command and it states: Processes at 158 total, 4 running, 2 stuck, 152 sleeping, 887 threads.  Load Average 1.18, 1.37, 1.32.  CPU Usage 2.31% user, 4.18% sys, 93.7% idle.  Running at the same temps as shown above.  I reset PRAM, restrated computer, etc.  Unless I only have one window open doing one thing, it gets very warm per the temps noted in my original post.

  • MBP retina + Yosemite + MAGSAFE CONNECTED = freeze and spinning ball!!

    I'm really losing my mind...
Friday I finally installed Yosemite 10.10 on my mbp retina. At the beginning everything was perfect, then new updates like iphoto and imovie started to pop up so I decided to download them. At some point of the download the spinning ball appeared but didn't want to go away, even after 5 minutes. I couldn't use my macbook so I decided to force shut down.
After restarting I could log in, but as soon as I moved the cursor to the dock and clicked on the apps I needed to open (Mail and Chorme) everything froze and the spinning ball appeared again.
    Force shut down again.
The magsafe was connected at all time.
Then I decided to go to the Apple Store to solve the problem. Once I explained the problem to the guy and turned on the macbook in front of him, everything started to work again perfectly.
I looked like a freaking idiot.
He had no explanation, he just told me to use time machine to backup my data and bring the macbook there in case the issue would appear again.
Yes I tried all the possible procedures pressing the keys when the macbook is turned on. (I kept for last the pram reset and smc reset)
    Nothing.
Then this morning I realized the freezing at startup would occur only if the magsafe was connected!!! This is also why at the Apple store there was no problem at startup....no magsafe connected. I tried a few times to use the macbook normally with the battery (even now that I'm writing), and it's working perfectly!! But as soon as I connect the magsafe, go to the dock to open apps or simply click on the google chrome tabs to type in a website, everything starts to freeze again and the spinning ball stays there indefinitely.
I also tried the utility disc (in normal and safe mode). It says everything is ok.
I even tried to delete completely iphoto, imovie and caffeine and to reinstall Yosemite.
I don't want to go to the Apple Store now because it's full of people (iphone 6 just got released here in China).
Could someone help me understand what is the problem??
Thank you for all the help you can provide

Yesterday it started to do the same even with the battery! So it was impossible for me to use it. I went to the apple store...they didn't know what to tell me since the system just got released.
They ran a few tests on my macbook and it showed that it wasn't an hardware issue, it was the software. So they wanted to do a backup of my data (from one of their macbooks) but couldn't because somehow there was a password for Firevault. I never put it!! And it's not the same I always choose for my system.
Result? They had to erase everything (I'm angry because I lost a lot of my work files) and now I'm back to Mavericks 10.9.5 and I have no idea when I'll decide to update again to Yosemite.
Since Steve Jobs passed away Apple is not the same.
My girlfriend has an iphone 5, she installed IOS 8 and everything is slow as ****. Seriously.
It's really disappointing and I (we) don't trust Apple anymore.

  • Retina MBP - visual glitches after returning from sleep

On the new Retina MBP (using the highest res setting), I'm noticing that there are significant visual glitches (ghosting, persistent blocks, lack of redraw, etc...) upon returning from sleep.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Yup, I'm having the same problem, except that my machine keeps crashing over and over again.  I've gone through the console, and it seems like different processes keep crashing (crash reporter, MDS (Spotlight), kernel_task, etc.)  I can safely boot into Safe Mode, but if I restart my machine, almost as soon as I get past the login screen, I get screen glitches and the machine either restarts itself or hangs.  NOT HAPPY.
MBP Retina 2.7 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB hard drive.  I installed all of the latest software updates (Thunderbolt, MBP Retina update, MBP mid-2012 OS X version, etc.)
I transferred over all files and apps from my mid-2011 MBP overnight.  I thought it was some incompatibility with installed software on my old machine (from which I'm typing this), so I started uninstalling things as soon as I could get logged in.  Little Snitch, gone.  EyeTV, gone.  SMCFanControl, gone.  Going through the Console, I saw that an old ATI program was trying to launch, so I pulled that and all of its associated .kext files out.  Nothing worked.  So, I'm reinstalling Lion on that machine right now, and we'll see how it goes.
I've spent my entire morning working on this *&(%^ thing.  I am NOT pleased.  I don't have time to be a beta tester for Apple.

  • MBP Retina wont go to sleep, help!

My new MBP Retina 2.6 wont go to sleep, and when it does it takes a while before it wakes up again. Closing the lid also sometimes cause it to crash. Installed programs: gfxCardstatus, Vlc and Chome.
Im reading about similar problems, and it doesn´t seem to be related to chrome, at least not for them. They also say something about xcode, whatever that is. Help!

    Call Apple Care.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

  • USB microphone not recognized by mbp, retina, late 2013, 10.10.1 Yosemite.

I bought a Behringer Xenyx302 USB preamp to connect a microphone to my mbp.  The device is not recognized by MacOS.  Preferences / Sound / Input only lists the internal microphone.  Based on other posts and documentation, I should see and entry for "USB microphone" or something like that.
The preamp has a headset jack.  I can hear the microphone working through that, so I know the mic works.
Behringer doc says that no drivers or software are required for MacOS.  15" mbp, retina, late 2013, 10.10.1 Yosemite
    Any suggestions?

Yes I have checked Parallels config along with Parallels support.  Also on the mac side it also does not see or recognize USB 2 devices
    any other thing to try?

  • Western Digital USB3 external hard drive (attached to new MBP Retina) seems to randomly "eject" itself when I'm trying to back it up via time machine. When this happens, I can't even shut my machine down properly. Ideas?

The backup process will run for sometimes 30 minutes or more. But, it's as if, at some point, the drive just can't be found. I get the message "this drive was ejected improperly". When this happens: my machine won't shut down, disk utility won't run. I have to press and hold the power button to force a shut down. Any ideas what's going on here? A MBP Retina issue? A USB3 issue? A western digital issue (although this drive has been functioning fine on old MBP)?
    Thanks!

When you say that you've applied the latest 'patch,' I'm assuming that you mean the latest (July 18) software update for mid-2012 models? It was supposed to address some of the problems with the USB 3.0 ports. I don't think that, in most cases, it's a problem with the drives themselves (USB 2 or 3), rather it seems to be a port problem.
If it wasn't fixed for you using the July 18 Software Update the only thing I can recommend at this point is to see if Mountain Lion - soon to be released - will be able to fix the problems. If not, I would take your unit back to the Apple Store and let them know that you are continuing to have problems with the USB 3.0 ports. They may offer to switch out your logic board, etc.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • How can I test my discrete graphics card in an MBP Retina?

How can I test the hardware on the discrete Nvidia grpahics card in my late 2012 MBP Retina?
I've had a *lot* of problems with it which I won't repeat here but the latest fun thing it's doing is crashing and requiring a hard reset any time *anything* attempts to access the discrete graphics card.  This includes but is not limited to:
*Opening system profiler and clicking on Graphics (it displays a blank screen)
    *Running a 3D graphics benchmark
*Running intensive mathematical calculations on the GPU
*Connecting to an external monitor with the thunderbolt port and using the computer for a short period of
None of these things actually work and after unsuccessfully attempting any of them the computer becomes very unstable shortly there after and usually crashes and requires hard reset.  One time I got a crash report that said something about GPU panic.
Any recommendations?  I get the sense that the apple hardware test is not doing a thoroough test of the GPU if at all.
    Thanks.

If they add OSX support for this product and it comes in at a reasonable price point, it could be an attractive solution.

  • How can I access BIOS/EFI in MBP Retina

How can I access EFI (or BIOS equivalent) in Macbook Pro Retina?
I tried to access with Option + Command + O and F. But, it doesn't work.
Is there anyone who saw the bios settings of MBP Retina?

Apple disables the standard mechanism for entry into the EFI shell in its computers, but not the EFI shell itself. If you want to launch the EFI shell, you can download third-party software that changes the interface EFI shows you at start-up. This will void your warranty & support, so you'll have to use Google for instructions.
