Yosemite running very slowly on new MacBook Pro
I just bought a new 13" MacBook Pro (not Retina) last month. When I set it up I copied the data and apps from my 2006 MacBook running Snow Leopard. When I try to open apps such as Safari or jEdit or Adobe Reader or NeoOffice it seems to wait forever (or at least 30 seconds) to open them. I thought this would be faster than Snow Leopard, but it's not!
Should I just back this all up with my SuperDuper and start over?
Here are my Etrecheck data:

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
One of the myths that circulate on this site is the myth that the current version of OS X always needs to more than 4 GB of memory to run well. The myth is based on nothing except the fact that some people keep repeating it. Apple is today selling new Macs with 4 GB of memory that can never be upgraded after they leave the factory. Those Macs come with Yosemite preinstalled, and it can never be downgraded to an older version. So if you were to believe the myth, you would also believe that Apple knows that it's selling products that are permanently crippled right out of the box, no matter how they're used. Read this discussion before you spend money on memory that you may not need.
Some users do need more than 4 GB of memory for full performance. They are running memory-intensive applications, such as photo or video editors, or they're running many programs concurrently, or they have more than one account logged in at the same time. Whether you're one of those users can be determined, in part, by observing the level of memory pressure in the Memory tab of the Activity Monitor window. If the memory pressure graph always stays in the green zone, then a shortage of memory is not causing the problem.
Even if memory pressure is high, that doesn't necessarily mean that adding more memory will help. If one or more processes has a memory leak—a kind of bug—then adding memory, no matter how much, won't help. It will merely delay the onset of the problem, perhaps only by a few minutes or less. That is very likely the case if you already have more than 4 GB.

Safari is running very slowly on my MacBook Pro.
Safari is running extremely slowly on my MacBook Pro. It often pinwheels t often pinwheels and then gets stuck so that I have to force quit or reload the pages. I went to the genius bar and they found nothing but reloaded the entire operating system. It still isn't working. Any suggestions?
Thanks. That helped a lot. Defeats the purpose of the update though.

I tried to run BootCamp on my new macbook pro, but i could not partition because of an apparent bad sector.
I reformatted the macbook, but the mac could not even boot up Mac OS Lion.
As such, I had to go down to my retailer and reinstall Lion.
What exactly went wrong? When I tried to bootcamp a few days ago, the partition could not work.
My technician told me that there is a bad sector.
So he reformatted, and Lion disaappeard. There was no O.S at all.
I went down to my retailer just now.
They ran a system check on the RAM, and the HDD.
They did not find any bad sector, and everything was okay.
They reinstalled Lion and now its okay again
But I'm afraid to try and bootcamp again because they same thing might happen? -
How do I run Disk Warrior on new MacBook Pros?
I am trying to help my good friend who purchased a Late-2012 Macbook Pro 13-inch Core i5 2.5 GHz. It runs 10.8 ML. WIth reckless technical abandon, she swamped and corrupted her HD directory with repeated massive transfers of large-size photo files in and out of her laptop when the drive was already probably at least 95% full to capacity. She probably experienced repeated Out-of-Memory notifications as she would try to perform these ops while Photoshop was using almost all available free space on the same disk as Scratch Storage for its operations.
Suddenly she could not boot her MBP. She called Apple warranty support, and they convinced her the only thing she could do was to wipe the HD and reinstall the OS. Angry as **** about losing about 3 weeks of critical photo images since her last backup, she dutifully obeyed. She said the wipe operation took only a part of a minute.
So, with that background, I told her I felt the wipe was not a low-level erase at all, but just the most minimal erase procedure possible, and that I thought many of her old files may be recoverable with a tool like DiskWarrior if she did it immediately, before starting to reinstall applications and other content back onto the disk. Can anyone back me up on this?
Now, on to how I can try to do the recovery. She has considered sending the drive out to a "clean room" recovery service, but before doing so at great cost, I wanted to at least try a DiskWarrior directory repair. With no optical drive, she cannot boot from the Disk Warrior 7.X DVD, or create a bootable CD or DVD to run Disc Warrior for the same reason. How else can we force the MBP to allow the hard drive to be read by DiskWarrior? Can I load DW on a FireWire drive and use Thunderbolt-to-FW adapter on MBP to boot from it? Disk Warrior's website still says "The current DiskWarrior DVD cannot start up the new MacBook Pros introduced June 11, 2012. An updated disc that will also start up these recent Mac models will be released as soon as Apple, Inc. releases new startup files to Alsoft, Inc. and other developers." Do I still have to wait for something from Apple? Or can I put the MBP in Target Mode and run DW connected via FireWire (and Thunderbolt adapter) from my own MacBook running OSX Lion? And hopefully repair her directory? Is there hope here? You'll need to install Windows on your Macbook. This can be done by either using Boot Camp (free, from Apple) or Parallels Desktop for Mac (free trial, $80 retail). Either approach requires that you own an additional copy of Windows (Windows XP sp2 for Boot Camp) which you will then install on your Mac.
In brief, Boot Camp sets up your Mac so you can boot into either OS X or Windows (but not have both running at the same time; you switch via a reboot), and Parallels creates a virtual machine in which you will run Windows while OS X is running. You're correct that you can't run Virtual PC on your Intel-based Mac. Parallels will give you that functionality on your Mac (and be a lot faster than Virtual PC in the process).
You might want to start with Parallels' free trial and see if that meets your needs for these CDs. Parallels doesn't require that you make changes to your partitions on your drive; it just installs an application and creates a virtual disk which to OS X is just another file (albeit a large one), and you don't need to reboot to switch back and forth between Windows and OS X. If it works, you're set.
If you have graphics adapter-intensive Windows applications (e.g., games or something that requires 3D acceleration), you'll be better off with Boot Camp, because the current version of Parallels does not support DirectX or 3D hardware acceleration.
Hopefully that will get you started. There's other info in the Discussions comparing Parallels to Boot Camp, but feel free to ask if you have questions.

My new Macbook Pro 13" won't register properly on our school's projectors when I try to run PPT (Epson EB510)! Instead, colored bars go across the screen against a black background. No matter how much I try to adjust the displays, PPT won't show on it. However, my friend's Macbook Air works fine. She's 10.7.2, I'm 10.7.4, so we're both more or less OS X Lion. What could be wrong? Can I do anything to fix it?
Make sure that your display is not mirrored. Mirroring forces you into "lowest common denominator" screen resolutions that can safely be displayed on BOTH screens, which may not be good enough for the projector.
When you turn off Mirroring, you get Extended Desktop, where the two screens are joined along an edge to form a larger Extended Desktop. To use this, drag a window onto the "other" screen. -

Aperture 3.1.3 crashes on opening. Running Lion on brand new MacBook Pro
I have a brand new MacBook Pro (8GB RAM, i7 Core, running Lion) and am using 3.1.3 Aperture. I have same issue as some others have mentioned elsewhere in the forum - Aperture is no longer opening, all I get is an error message. A few days ago, Aperture opened just fine (I was running Lion with the 3.1.3 version of Aperture then too), but now for whatever reason it is not. I've tried removing the preferences list (com.apple.Aperture.plst), rebooting, reinstalling the update (3.1.3), and still nothing. Any thoughts? Thank you!
Guess I should've done a little more research before I posted this but, found this, which did the trick:
For those with the same problem:
1. Navigate to: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
2. Delete the PluginManager
3. Get a new copy of the PluginManager. (You can copy one from a friends macbook) or use the one hosted here: http://qvenon.com/files/PluginManager.zip -
Running Classic Environment on new MacBook Pro
I need to use an old software program. It requires that I use the classic environment. Is there any way that I can run the classic environment on my new MacBook Pro running Snow Leapoard?
Hi, turtlepower -
Does this also apply to the new imac version 10.6.2.
Yes.
Classic is not supported by OSX 10.5 (Leopard) and later versions; and is not supported on any Intel-processor Mac.
Is there anything out there that will work?
The only way to use OS 9 on Intel machines or machines running OSX 10.5 and later is to use an emulator such as mohaas05 has suggested.
Whether running OS 9 in emulation will meet your needs is a different thing - some functions or programs will not work well, or at all. For example, programs that require direct access to the machine's hardware (such as many games do) will not do well in OS 9 in emulation.
Given that used machines capable of booting to OS 9 are quite inexpensive these days, getting one of them is often the best solution. -
SO, new macbook pro, and logic runs like a dream, 10 instruments, 20 tracks, all is well...
However, mainstage is killing me. I can see the amazing potential, but the CPU keeps spiking, literally when I try to loopback 1 instrument. It is ridiculous. I'm verging on submitting to Ableton, help me please!
RobinDid you check the I/O buffer size in Preferences/Audio? It can well be, that small buffers like 32 frames may screw the show. Which instruments are you using? MS in single threaded, so everything is processed on a single core.
Best,
DaCaptain -

Express very slow with new MacBook Pro
I have a 2.4Ghz MacBook Pro, a Mac Mini and an AirPort Express. When I connect to this network with a 1st gen Core Duo (802.11G) machine, transfer rates between computers run at typical G speeds. When I connect with the 2.4 Ghz machine, transfer rates between it and the Mini are much, much slower - less than 20% as fast as the 802.11G MBPro.
All machines have updates and show four bars of signal strength. I have no idea why the new MBPro is so dramatically slow.

Unable to run iPhoto on a new MacBook Pro after transferring from an older MacBook
Hello,
I recently transferred all of my information from an old MacBook Pro to a new one. Currently, when I try to open iPhoto, I get a message that states "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." I got the iPhoto Library Upgrader from Apple and downloaded it, but the same error message occurs. Any ideas? All of my photos are stored on my computer, but the application will not run. Thanks! It's not enough to donload the updater, you also have to run it. It's in your Applications/Utilities folder.

yes I just tried all those suggested solutions but they didn't work, actually I don't have that folder structure that they're saying... (/Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist), my library folder is not there, is in HDname/Library and anyway it doesn't contain those files. -
How do i transfer files from pc to new macbook pro running yosemite
I want to transfer documents, pictures and iTunes library from Dell pc running Windows Vista to new MacBook pro running Yosemite.
Use the Migration Assistant, or move the files manually through file sharing or an external drive. If you've already set the MacBook Pro up and use the Migration Assistant, the files will be put into a different user account.
