Yosmite, Filevault, and drive access via Windows or Linux

If i turn Filevault on, will I still be able to access my newly encrypted SSD from a booted windows partition on the same SSD or a Linux live boot distro?
Does FIlevaule encrypt the whole drive or just the mac partition?

The first time you log in after turning on FileVault, the initial encryption of your entire hard disk begins.
The drive will be cut off from external OS-es. If you could still open it form Windows or Linux, it wouldn't be much of a security feature.

I can connect to Windows Server 2008r2 with other programs like 2X or Cord but can't copy o move files, for these reasons I'd buy Apple Remote Desktop but had the problem of conection.

JLC - have you tried http://www.microsoft.com/mac/remote-desktop-client ? I have been using this and CORD for quite some time with success. As long as you configure to allow access to local filesystem, you can transfer filtes to/from the Windows server you are connecting to.

One thing to note though, since I updated my MBP to 10.8.5, copy/paste of text has not worked for me with either of those RDP clients.

Routing and Remote Access Logs (Windows Server 2008 R2)

Hi,
I have a Windows 2008 R2 server running Routing and Remote access and users are using PPTP VPN's to connect to our network.
I have been asked to find logs for the following for connections in to our server
Username used for connection
Computer Name
IP Address used by computer connecting
Start/End time of VPN session
Date
Encryption used
I found an article stating to enable RRAS logs you need to run the following command
To enable RAS logs run command “netsh ras set tracing * enabled” and found a series of logs created in this location C:\Windows\tracing
None appear to contain the information I am looking for and was wondering if I was doing this correctly and if not how I am meant to extract this information?

Hi,
I can’t sure which article you have read, but fur the 2008R2 the RAS to enable the log and the debug log in the KB is descried like this, I recommend you to try the KB
mentioned method.
To configure RRAS to enable logging
1. Start Server Manager. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.
2. In the navigation tree, expand Roles, and then expand Network Policy and Access Services.
3. Right-click Routing and Remote Access, and then click Properties.
4. On the Logging tab, select Log errors only, Log errors and warnings, or Log all events, depending on how much information you want to capture.
5. Click OK to save your changes.

Display and driver issues with Windows 7 on i5 MBP

Hello-
I just purchased one of the i5 Macbook Pros, and set out to get Windows 7 working through boot camp. I did this on an older model (32-bit) previously with no problems.
This time around, installation of Windows worked fine, but I have had some trouble getting all the drivers working. The setup.exe program on the OS X DVD didn't want to run at all, I had to do a workaround from the command line that I found on a forum (otherwise I just got a response of "Bootcamp x64 is unsupported on this computer model").
Eventually I got (at least some of) the drivers to work, but there are still some issues.
After installing the drivers, things like brightness and two-finger clicking started working. A number of other things still aren't, though:
- Display: My machine has a 1440x900 screen. But for some reason Windows refuses to go higher than 1280x800.
- Network: No wireless at all. Windows doesn't detect any wireless capability, and only gets on-line via ethernet.
There may be other issues, but these are the big ones. Can anyone provide suggestions on what to do to get everything working?

I just used winclone to move my Win 7 from my Core2Duo MPB to an i5 MBP and had to do a few updates and have eneded up in pretty much the same place as you. I won't bother installing from scratch. I'm guessing we just need to wait for some bootcamp updates for these new machines.
For those of you who are looking to migrate your bootcamp partition over, winclone made it easy - I followed the directions for resizing and Win7 boots, does a disk check, then installed many of the new drivers automatically. There are some drivers that are still needed however, wifi and video. I also so a USB driver issue but have to look at that a little closer before I comment.

App-v 4.6 Q: drive "access denied" Windows 7 SP1

I'm troubleshooting an app-v application in windows 7
I've customize the osd file to start with cmd.exe
On the commandline (which is in the bubble) i'm trying to access the Q: drive but I get access denied.
I've never experienced this in windows XP
Anybody familiar with this problem, or is my windows 7 image the problem?

Problem with Collaboration and Portal accessed via multiple URLs

Here is the scenario. We have the portal installed that can be accessed from an external domain: portal.company.com. We recently upgraded to WCI 10gR3 and in the process we added an internal server that uses an OAM webgate which handles Integrated Windows Authentication. The URL for out internal access is portal.company.int. The problem comes when we try to access collaboration folders. From our internal URL when we click on a folder in Collab Documents the loading... text come sup and that's it. No other activity in the browser or in PTSpy. If we use the external URL there is no issue.
Anyone have any ideas on how we can get around this or what the cause could be?

try to play with the collaboration server url (for the Collaboration Remote Server )

Enter the external url here, or better the name of the machine, something like
http://<machinename><yourdomain>:11930/collab/
See if works.

X Server and remote access from Windows

I am contemplating installing a MacMini Server running X Server but different people may need admin access, not all of them on Macs.
Is there a way where some of the server maintenance is done from a Windows machine using some sort of RDC program or is the only option to do the RDC from a Mac?

Out of the box OS X will provide access to nearly any VNC client. Many version exist for Windows. You just need to explicitly permit standard VNC access and provide a password. This can be done in System Preferences > Sharing > Remote Management > Computer Settings.
In that dialog, check "VNC viewers may control screen with password" and set a password. In leopard the text box had a character limit. I have not tested in Snow yet. If you run into a problem, you can use the kickstart command line tool as it appears to have no character limit.
Oh, one other tip. Many Window's VNC clients will fail to establish a connection. This is because the screen depth is set to low. Make sure you set the number of colors on the VNC client to the highest it will go.

I have installed windows 2012 r2 server core and i want to implement direct access with nic teaming enabled.
Has anyone tried this kind of setup? Were they successful in it? Moreover can we configure Direct access when we have NIC teaming configured?

Hi There - NIC teaming in both core and gui is a standard feature and there is no reason (and I have used it successfully) why you cannot do so. As always make sure you look at TCP Offload as per UAG / TMG Days to ensure best performance and also Network
Card Binding Order.

External drive access via network

I have two computers connected via wired network
When i first upgraded to leopard, i could access external hard drives connected to one computer from the other computer, now the drives do not appear, even though i have specified them as shared folders.
any ideas?

having the same problem. apple seems to be clueless as to why this 10.5.1 has a problem accessing external drives that are networked via hub by a rj-45 connector. i manage a small outfit an have another mac that runs 10.4.11 the networked external storage drive shows up fine. when i've tried to connect to the external from 10.5.1 no such luck. what is interesting is that 10.5.1 may connect or may not depending on the day. when it does connect it's buggy. it may show up 2 or 3 hours later under the shared option in the left column or the shared column will not show up at all. my next step is to return to 10.4.11.

FTP access via Window browsers

I've been struggling with Windows users accessing our FTP site via their browser. Without including the username within the URL it's considered an anonymous login attempt. I don't like this method since it makes the usernames public domain. Can anything be done short of allowing anonymous access?

A driver was not digitally signed after software and driver installation on Windows 7

C:\windows\system32\dipxapi.dll
error, deivice status not working properly for my H Officejet Pro 8500 a909a printer . In Device Manager I noticed a driver was not digitally signed which i beleive is causing my Internet Explorer to not work properly.
Is this a driver I need to correct or get signed? How do I correct this problem?

Thank you for the reply, and potential fixes. I have combed the MS site already. The workarounds may provide some return functionality, but this type issue between two companies as HP and MS seems peculiar, and I am holding out for a permanent bonafide solution.
For example, the "F8 override disabling all digital signatures" plus installing yet another program to continue with every reboot is just not a viable solution to me.

Username and role access via EL

Hi,
I'm using form-based authentication via a plain old JSP.
Once the user is logged in I'd like to display their user name and role on each page.
In JSP I can do this via EL with something like: ${pageContext.request.remoteUser}
What is the equivalent expression in JSF based EL?
Same question for the role.

Judging by the lack of response, I guess this must have been a really dumb question?
I ended up creating a backing bean and using:
FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
username = context.getExternalContext().getRemoteUser();
Where username is a bean property
I couldn't get the JSF EL version of the above to work.
The EL version seems suprisingly convoluted given that getting the username and role is a pretty common task.

C4280 software and driver install for Windows 7 error

Trying to download the latest version of the software and drivers for the HP C4280 Photosmart printer. The download appears to complete properly but I receive the following during the install process. Help!

I install "routing and remote access" into Window Server and make it work as a firewall.
When connections are accepted or denied at firewall, would you tell me if the firewall can output the logs ?
