Help

For whatever reason you don't have the Yosemite version of Disk Utility which is 13. I suggest you reinstall Yosemite.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Download and install the 10.10.1 update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Check that you have the current version of Disk Utility.

  • Time Capsule drops wifi/internet connection and flashes amber

Time Capsule drops wifi/internet connection and flashes amber.  I've tried unplugging it and my modem but it continues to do this every so often.  The time capsule is out in the open, so I don't think it's a heat issue.  It's running firmware 7.7.3.  Anyone else having this issue?  Any suggestions on how to fix it?  It's driving me crazy!

Bought the time capsule in Oct 2013.  I have a Sagemcom 2864 modem from Bell but used through Teksavvy.  The 5 ghz has been flaky until I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.1 I think.  I had a closer look at it and it appears that the wifi is ok.  I was thrown off by the wifi symbol being all animated in the menu bar.  I was able to ping the time capsule via wifi.  All the status lights on the modem looked ok.  Next time it happens, I'll see if I can get some more details.  Do you know if there's anyway to get some logs from the airport utility?

I keep getting the following message when I try to install firefox.."your computer must be restarted to complete a previous install of firefox" I've restarted numerous times..keep getting the same message

Have a look at the solution to a similar problem: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/921375?s=%22Your+computer+must+be+restarted+to+complete+a+previous+upgrade+of+Firefox.+Do+you+want+to+reboot+now%3F%22&r=0&e=sph&as=s
If that doesn't work, you can uninstall FF and do a clean install. You'll prob lose your bookmarks, history, etc, though, so if you do this set up Sync first! https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-firefox-sync-and-how-do-i-use-it

  • HT3728 my macbook pro keeps dropping my internet

i was wondering if the Airport Utilities had anything to do with it .... it just keeps searching and searching ...
should it have an address ????
i have rebooted the server many times, and the internet stays on for a while, and then goes off ...
i have never had this problem before - we are traveling and sharing internet with another person ...
no one has problems except me and everyone else has a PC
    any thoughts ???
    thanks

OK, so he has a router involved in addition to the modem. I think we can drop the question of how the modem is connected to the internet. Presumably, everything else is connected through the router.
Your MBP is new enough that it should be competent to connect at either 2.4GHz or 5GHz, but it might be relevant if it is chosing a different frequency from your iPad. You can find out the frequency of the MBP by holding down the "option" key while pulling down the wifi menu from the nested-arc icon in the menu bar. A group of paler gray lines should appear under the name of the active (checked) network. The third one should start with "Channel:" and end with "(2.4GHz)" or "(5GHz)". Also note the content of the 6th line (Transmit Rate).
It's harder to tell the frequency and speed on the iPad, but you at least check that you are using the same network. Just tap Settings on the home screen, then Wi-Fi, and look for the active (checked) network name. It should be the same as the name on the MBP. If the wifi network is single-frequency, both devices will be using the same frequency; if dual-frequency, they may not be.
The frequency may be especially relevant because the two bands have different penetrating abilities. I would imagine this is true even with metal walls. (Metal walls are not particularly conducive to radio transmission in the first place.)
I am surprised to hear that your network host "has to unplug and shut down everything when my Mac doesn't work." Wasn't it enough to shut down and restart the wifi connection from the Mac, or shut down and restart the entire Mac? Was that what you meant when you said you "have rebooted the server many times"?

  • Why are the Mac Pro's dropping their server connection over a PC network.

This seems to be a common thread on the discussion, but I can't find a resolution. I have a mix of G5s and Mac Pro's all running 10.4.10. All the machines are set to manual 100BaseT Duplex. The Mac Pro's constantly drop their network connections or show write errors when you are trying to save. Can someone point me in the direction of the answer? thanks.

  • Why does my Macbook Pro keep dropping its wireless connection?

    Hi everyone,
Last year I purchased a 2013 Macbook Pro 13". Everything had been working well up until yesterday afternoon. My wi-fi connection keeps dropping roughly every 5 minutes for no apparent reason, with an exclamation mark flashing over the signal strength icon. It runs on Mavericks with all software updates etc. up to date. I live in a student house with 7 other people, so the network could be overburdened, though it's been fine until now. I've reset Safari, deleted info regarding the wireless network and reinstalled it, and deleted all the keychain info, but it hasn't really helped.
I would be grateful for any responses, thanks!

    Hello aidenhh,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your MacBook.  I would be concerned about this too.

  • My Macbook Pro keeps dropping interenet.  iPad and iPhone's do not.

My Macbook keeps losing the internet connection every few minutes, then I reconnect instantly and it connects, then repeats.  However, the iPad and iPhone, do not drop the connection to that network.  And my xbox is also connected to that network with no issues.  Which led me to think it was laptop specific.  However, I tried updating the settings on the network and even tried a wireless usb adapter, to no avail.  Then I tried swapping over to the 'Guest' network I created when I got the airport router....now the laptop holds the connection fine on the guest network.......which leads me back to the other network as being bad.....but if that is the case, why do the iPad and iPhone and Xbox work fine on that network?  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

  • My 2007 mac pro has a slow internet connection with lion

    Hi:
I've been dealing with a severely slow internet connection with my 2007 mac pro - dual quad core.  I have os 10.7.3.  I use wifi.
Typically, I'll experience difficulty loading websites completely.  Certain sites have a 90% failure rate to load most elements.  Other sites operate quickly from time to time.  Often, a site will simply fail to load at all.  My cable company cannot find anything wrong with my connection and other, newer devices don't have a problem loading sites.  It seems the issue is most likely related to my computer.
Interestingly, I can usually "jump-start" the connection by turning my wifi connection off and on and this will (temporarily) allow me to get an image or video to download.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Yahoo Mail: on Mac Pro (keeps asking for my password and then doesn't work)

I have used Yahoo Mail through my Mac Pro Mail Account for years and enjoyed fine service.
For the last few months, the Mac Mail says I have the wrong password, and it won't allow me to access
    mail.
If I change the password, it will work for a while (days) and the cycle starts all over again.
Sometimes, I stop using Mac Mail and use Yahoo off the web, and then suddenly Mac Mail will start working
    on its own again.
I read a thread for earlier in the year and tried every single thing suggested - this still happens
I have used Yahoo mail for 22 years - but maybe it is time to switch?
Gmail never has this problem...but I use the Yahoo mail for my business, my friends, and groups.
    Anyone with a working solution?
PS: My Yahoo email ALWAYS 100% of the time works on my iphone, and ipad...this only happens on my Mac Pro.

You don't have a Mac Pro (*65lb tower) but a notebook.
There is a support page and setup wizard to help plus links to support articles and community.
you may have to rebuild mail index or see if you can export, (re)move the existing mail folder and setup a new one and import old mail. Mail does and can have its issues for sure.

  • When I try to open itunes I get the following message MSCVR80.dll is missing. It twells me to reinstall the software. When I try to reinstall the install hangs up and tells me there is an error and I need to reinstall.

My Itunes will not open due to a missing file, MSCVR80.dll. It tells me to reinstall the software. I downloaded the installer for my windows 7 system. When I try to install it tells me there is an error in the install and to reinstall.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.
