If you're running Mavericks and have iPhoto 9.3.2 you can upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 at the App Store for free.

Did you upgrade to a new MacOS X version? Then you need to update iPhoto as well.
Only iPhoto 9.6 is compatible with MacOS X 10.10 Yosemite. Update from the Mac App Store.
Backup your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
Check the "Updates" tab of the App Store for an iPhoto update and run the update.
When you laugh iPhoto after the update, it will warn you, that the library needs upgrading, That may take a while.
Just in case that you see a warning, that the update is not possible because of an error message: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the Applications folder, but do not empty the Trash, so you can put iPhoto back, if need be.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
Open the main page "Featured" of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.

I just ran my updates for my MacBook Pro and now my iphoto won't open. I get a pop up that say's You can't use this version of the applicaton IPhoto with this version of os x. You have iphoto 9.2.3.
This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks. It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1: every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2: If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.

I have updated with new IOS6 softward today and after this one of the application "Tamil Daily Calendar" of iAvatna Labs not working. It quits while opening the application.
If it's just the one app, try deleting it from the phone and re-installing it. If that doesn't fix it, contact the app developer for assistance. It may not be fully compatible with iOS 6.

Have you tried deleting the plist from the Library folder?
If this doesn't work, you could import the old version of iPhoto version of iPhoto from Time Machine and try the update again.

If you have 10.7.3 then updating to 10.7.5 is free.

When I try to install Lion it tell's me "You can't use this version of the application install mac os x Lion with this version of Mac os X" even though I have the latest update 10.5.8 of Mac os X?

So to make a disk would require you to purchase Snow Leopard and upgrade to 10.6.8 so you can use the App Store, unless you have access to another computer to download it from with your Apple ID. Remember it is about a 3.4GB download.

I have just bought a 2011 iMac (2.5 ghz, 4gb) and logic express 9, and when i installed logic and tried to run it i had a message saying 'you can't use this version of the application logic express with this version of Mac OS X. How do i sort this out!? It is very frustrating as the main reason i have bought a mac is to use logic! Any help would be great as i am a complete novice when it comes to Macs!

I had the same problem as you. I used Software Update to update Logic Express to the latest version, and then it ran without any problems. -

After installing all of Logic Studio (i.e. install dvd, audio content 1-3, jam packs 1-3), my laptop concludes that everything is installed successfully, however, when going to open to Logic, error icon appears and says:
'you can't use this version of the application "logic pro" with this version of os x'Thank you! I found that just after I entered the question. I reinstalled everything two times, updated software, but was still having issues. But, I specifically updated the 9.1.8 (which was supposedly included in my standard software update). Guess I needed to give it some extra attention and affection.
P.S. - Why do I feel like the more I upgrade versions of OS X, the worse off I am getting or am? Isn't it supposed to be opposite...isn't it supposed to make things better...come on, mac...where you at? mt. lion or mavericks. I'm downloading Snow Leopard to make some programs run. (um, yeah). -

I just installed 10.6 and all seemed well until I tried to load Mail. I got this response
"You can't use this version of the application Mail with this version of Mac You have Mail 3.5".
I successfully reinstalled 10.6 and I also reloaded the apps that were contained in another folder on the CD. I get the same message every time I try to load the Mail program. I deleted the "mail plist" file and that did not work. So I recovered my old one from Time Machine. Still dead!

Why would you "reload" any apps? They should have been installed when you installed 10.6. Where exactly did you reload them from?

...which undoubtedly still contained the old copy of Mail from your last Leopard backup, and not the current version of Mail that should have been installed with 10.6.
What you need to do is reinstall the appropriate version of Mail from your Snow Leopard install disk. You can install one specific program from the install disk using [Pacifist|http://www.charlessoft.com> - though, check carefully to make sure it's been cleared for use with the Snow Leopard install disk!
Whether that will fix your problem or not, I don't know, as I don't know what exactly you've done. It sounds like you've done a lot of things you should not have done, mixing components of your older system into your newer system. It is entirely possible you will need to reinstall the entire system. -
How do you solve error "You can't use this version of the application Install Mac OS X.app with this version of Mac OS X" when trying to go back to leopard from lion?
Local Mac shop said to hold down "c" after inserting disk to get "disk utility" to come up in order to wipe hard drive. I can't seem to get it to do this.This W7 was purchased for using Fusion, as others did - per reviews from amazon. The technician today called their contact at VMWare - Fusion not officially for use with Lion - even though I read at the VMWare support site that others have made it work. Apparently my setup doesn't work.
Do you know how to do the proceedure for bringing up the disk utility when starting the disk?
BTW, some of the windows applications I want to continue using are Incredimail, Calendarscope, Stamps.com and a few others I have used over many years. What do you use for email and calendar?

Regarding your Disk Utility question, please elablorate I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Disk Utilty is just that...a utility, it's something most users never have to use especially on a new computer. Let me know what you're trying to do there before I give you some instructions.
As for as your Windows apps I would recommend using Mail and iCal, both come as part of OS X and are very robust tools. Don't discount the software built right into OS X it's very robust and powerful not all like the bloatware most Windows boxes ship with. Stamps.com well I'd look for another alternative. It's clear they don't support OS X which makes me a little suspicious that they're so behind the times.
Also if you have not been exposed to these links before I'd strongly recommend bookmarking them and using them. They're extermely useful!
