YouView lost BTSport n now software updates failin...

Hi. I have a Humax DTRT100.  BT Sport was working and then we we switched on one day and only got a black screen - nothing to see.  We were told to do a factory reset.  We got the box working but still no BT Sport. Next support person told us to do a software upgrade.  But it constantly fails.  Next support person said your broadband speed isnt what it should be (or what i have been paying for for a year) - we'll send an engineer.  Had an engineer here all afternoon who has corrected the original installation and doubled the broadband speed but I am still getting exactly the same error - the upgrade gets n% through (the most it 63%) and then it says is Sorry an error has occured while trying to update your software, please try again later'.  I am waiting for a phone call from someone in another support office - promised in the next 24-48 hrs but has anyone got any ideas?  We've lost all the MotoGP recordings we had...husband NOT HAPPY!!  My channel listing goes from 302-700. Thanks

Hi nuts!
Which factory reset did you perform - the one from the settings menu?

I LOST MY CONTACTS DURING SOFTWARE UPDATE A WEEK AGO , TRIED TO RESTORE FROM MY LAST BACK UP HELD ON MAY 16, BUT FAILED , AM EVEN SURE I'V SELECTED ALL DATA BACKUP FOR ANY OF MY PREVIOUS BACKUP , TRIED TO RESTORE FROM ANY BUT FAILED , TRIED THE GMAIL CONTACTS ALSO FAILED , WONDERING WHERE MY CONTACTS I'VE SAVED FOR MORE THEN 10 YEARS ARE GONE ....AM TOTTALY DISSAPOINTED SINCE AM A BLACKBERRY USER SINCE 5 YEARS ,  ALWAYS SUPPORTED  BLACKBERRY AGAINST IPHONE USERS , ALL MY FREINDS ARE NO MORE USING BLACKBERRY AND SWITCHED TO IPHONE OR SAMSUNG , AM HAVING AN EMPTY BBM LIST NOW , BUT  STILL SUPPORTING AND EVEN BOUGHT THE Z10 FIRST WEEK OF RELEASE , I WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT A TECHNICAL PROBLEM HAPPENED DURING THE SOFTWARE UPDATE , BUT CANT UNDERSTAND THE USELESS BACK UP I'VE ALWAYS DOING ! AND THE WORSE IS THAT LAST SOFTWARE UPDATE TURNED THE Z10 TO A WORSE MOBILE.

    Hum, it is worrying...
So... your contacts seem to be on:
    Gmail,
    your previous backups.
    -Solutions:
if all your contacts are on Gmail: copy them manually on your device,
they are a priori all in your backups: wait that Link won't be in Beta anymore, and then restore.
    P.S.:
You make backups and don't register your contacts on SIM, is it possible ? Personally, I rarely register contacts on SIM. If there is a malware, it can be charged from the SIM to the Phone, this is why.

  • 10.9.4 installed, now Software Update and App Store won't open

    Ahoy.
I installed the 10.9.4 update and now Software Update and the App Store won't open.  I don't know what other information might be relevant here.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Update to 10.4.4 now software update does not work

Updated using the standalone installer and now Software Update will not launch, although I can run it from the Preference pane. Tried repair permissions. Ran cron scripts. Ran the combo update. Still no luck. Any ideas. Thanks.

Software Update will not launch, although I can run it from the Preference pane.
Confusing because they contradict each other. Where are you trying in the failed instance? From the About this Mac menu item? Please be a bit more specific. If my assumption is correct, then create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if it works there. Report back.

  • 10.4.7 Update Failed, Now Software Update Broken

I tried to update from 10.4.6 to 10.4.7, but the update failed. I then tried the update via the package that was downloaded. No luck. Now, when I try to launch Software Update, it dies.

    Hello Chad:
You do need to run repair disk from your software install DVD (you cannot repair a boot drive from the same drive). If that fails to repair errors, you have a couple of options.
Alsoft's DiskWarrior is the "gold standard" of directory repair (pricey at about $90, but worth it).
If you used a program like SuperDuper to create a bootable clone on your external HD, you simply need to restore it. If you do not have a bootable clone, you really cannot restore from the external HD.
If you do have your data backed up in some fashion (but not a bootable clone), I would suggest you run an archive and install (see above). A&I will install a fresh copy of OS X (you would have to update it, of course) and also preserves your own programs, files, and settings.

  • Nokia E66 - Lost Txt's after software update - can...

Can anyone advise me if it is possible to retrieve my messages from my phone after software update?
I have tried 'some' recovery software but they do not recognise the 'phone' as a part of my pc.
    Has anyone had similar issues?

If you didn't make a backup before updating, all data is lost.

  • Lost power while downloading Software Updates...

    Hi,
I would like to get some guidance in the following situation. I was using the Software Update utility in OSX Lion to download some updates for my computer. Everything was working fine until my home lost power while the computer was in the middle of downloading one of the patches. Since my Mac is a MacBook Pro the computer stayed on during the brief outage (lasting less than a minute), but software update showed a warning message indicating that some downloads could not be finished due to a lost of connectivity. I clicked the "OK" button and was returned to the SU downloads list. When the connection was reestablished I clicked again the install button. The dowloads continued and the computer then restarted to install them.
Since the update download was interrupted and then the item continued to download from where it let off; are there any chances of data curruption? or the software update has some redundancies to detect the corrupted update data?
Thanks for your assistance on this matter!

    macjack wrote:
Not to worry. If the download continued, opened and installed. Part of the operation is a check of the download.
Perfect, so I won't need to wipe my drive and reinstall Lion again. So far it seems that all updates are running OK, I am not seeing any indications of errors in Console at the time indicating some type of corruption.
I was really worried because I had to perform a Lion clean install this morning after Console started giving me some messages about a wrong checksum, and this power outage came after I finished the installation of OSX Lion and the bundled apps and was updating them to their latest version via software update.
    Thanks for the assistance!

  • Then general there is now software update showing where might i find it?

I have an Ipad 2 and it has version 4.3.5 on it at the moment I would like to update it to ios5, but in general there is no software update to choose, where might it be please?

Connect your iPad to iTune (computer) and Check for Updates. Backup before you proceed with update.

What happens when you try to sync? Error messages?
Try resetting the iPOd. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Safari and Mail not working, and now software update not running!

    Hello, can anyone can help?
I was running 10.3.9, no problems, with safari, mail etc, through my standard third party router. Then today safari won't open up, just goes into spinning ball. Mail won't even open. I have re-installed the system from original discs back to 10.3.3, but still no luck. I can't even run software demag from a download of the apple site, whirling ball again.
Do I need to go for full system default re-instal, as I will loose all my mail folders and safari settings?
    Pretty stuck at the moment......

Sounds like a problem with your internet service provider. Perhaps contact them and see if they are experiencing problems. The other thought is the modem and next is the router.

  • Iphone crash during software update.....now won't connect

    Hey everyone,
I was trying to update the software on my 3gs, but during the update itunes stopped recognizing my iphone and now the phone is giving me the connect to itunes screen because it needs to be restored. Now, the problem is that when I try to connect the phone to my pc it tells me that it's in recovery mode and it needs to be restored, however, when I click retore it gets stuck on the "preparing iphone for restore sceen" and sometimes it stops and gives me the 0xE0000065 error message. So I tried to open ports 88 and 443 and try again, but the same thing keeps happening. If anybody has any suggestions, PLEASE let me know, thanks.

  • Security update 003 installed, Software Update now wants 002!

I saw that Apple Security Update 2011-003 was available so I followed the link, downloaded it and installed it. Now Software Update alerts me that it wants to install yet another Security Update (number 002). What is going on here? Should I allow the download and installation?

Security updates generally are not cumulative, so 2011-003 probably does not include any fixes from earlier updates. If Software Update is listing another update, I'd suggest you go ahead and let it install.
    Regards.

  • Automating Software Updates

Is there a way to automate Software Updates?
I've finally switched my immediate relatives to Macs. But every time I visit, the operating system and other applications require several updates. Training them to manually run Software Updates is not an option.
KB HT1338 states that "Mac OS X 10.5 and later allows you set Software Update to download important updates automatically. You will be notified when the updates are ready to be installed." I have this option checked on their iMac ("Download important updates automatically -- you will be notified when the updates are ready to be installed"), but have never seen any type of notification when I'm visiting their homes.
The only time their iMacs get updated is during my occasional visits. Because I set up their primary user accounts to not log in as administrator, I am prompted several times to enter the administrator username and password. I cannot simply start Software Updates and leave. By the time I'm doing this for them, it often takes an hour to download and install all of the updates.
Whatever the numerous flaws of Windows, the automatic updates feature is not one of them. It is intuitive and easy to configure (at least for me), and has worked on every Windows PC I have set up.
    Thanks.
PS - re KB HT1338, I have never received any notification about downloads being ready to install on my MacBook, either. Looking at it now, Software Updates --> Scheduled Check says that the last check was on August 25, 2008 -- over two months ago. This may be because I often apply updates when I read about them, and don't wait to be notified by Software Updates.

None of us are subscribed to MobileMe.
I've considered Remote Desktop, but can't really justify spending several hundred dollars

Automatic software updates will install in a non-admin account, but it requires the user to enter the admin name and password.
That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I can't depend on the end users to do this.
What I want is something that I have to configure once, and then doesn't require any user (or administrator) intervention after that.

  • Safari doesn't appear in Software Update?

I've just done a fresh install of 10.4 on an iBook. Added 10.4.11, Security Update 2009-004, QuickTime 7.6.4, and all the Java updates (tedious). (Didn't bother with iTunes Phone Driver and Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update, which I don't figure this computer needs.) It now has Safari v.3.0.4, but no later version (either 3.2.3 or 4.x) of Safari appears in Software Update. Tried several times, but Apple apparently thinks Safari v.3.0.4 is up to date. This has happened also on a couple other Macs where I've installed 10.4 recently. Anyone have any idea why? I wonder what else Software Update may not be telling me?

+...what it certainly checks is the Receipts folder. If you already have a receipt for Safari 4 it won't update.+
+Try deleting the receipt and then updating.+
The only Safari receipt is "Safari.pkg" which, according to its internal version plist, is for Safari 2.0 (the version that came with 10.4.0, I presume). If that's all Software Update sees, then it should offer to update to 3.2.3 or 4.x.
After installing 3.2.3, there's now a "Safari3.2.3Ti.pkg" receipt; and now Software Update offers Safari 4.0.3, which presumably will run on this computer, perhaps without some of its fancier features.
But if I weren't an Experienced Mac Tech, I wouldn't know to update Safari from the v.3.0.4 that comes with 10.4.11.
