Z-modem or hl7 over dialup

Ramesh,
Is it possible to send a message through z-modem or hl7 over dialup? I dont have alot of details on this yet but will b2b support this way of communication? I understand that they are really old/absolette way of transfer.
Dipal

Hello Dipal,
With a little knowledge on z-modem, it is similar to FTP transport protocol. HL7 documents can be transferred over MLLP and generic Exchange which necessarily involve FTP transport. HTH.

  • Low resolution images over dialup

For some strange reason, Safari seems to render images at a lower resolution when I'm connected to the Internet over dialup (Bluetooth dialup in my case, haven't tried regular dialup), no matter what my Display preferences are set to.
I've seen a couple prior posts asking similar questions, but no definite resolution. One person mentioned the "Total Access" features and a web accelerator perhaps being the cause, but I can't find anything like that either in the Safari or System preferences.
    Help?

    This is normal
An image requires a picture of twice the resolution to display properly on a Retina display, if not available it will double up the pixels or just stretch out to fill the space it should fill. Most websites were created before high resolution displays became popular and many either haven't bothered or just do not feel enough visitors use such displays to make updating their images worthwhile
When a non-Retina user loads a page with such images they still have to download the full size image, which could be another reason
As for program icons it will just be that the program is old

  • HL7 over Generic Exchange

Is there any documentation/examples/tips available for "HL7 over Generic Exchange" protocol?
I can find plenty for MLLP but none for Generic or, more specifically, HTTP 1.1.
Anything would be appreciated, thank you.

    Hello,
Please refer to the EDIFACT tutorial for Generic Exchange and make use of the same concept in HL7 Over Generic.

  • Do Airport Express modems wear out over time

I periodically ( a few times a week) lose my connection with the Internet through Comcast.  I have two Airport Express units n our home that is our wireless network.  They are synced together.  I will lose connectivity with one or both and have to disconnect from power for about a minute and then plug back in, then all is well until the next failure.  Do these units wear out over time?  Is there a better Apple product to use in this situation?  I am using a Motorola modem in this process.
    Thanks,
    Mike

The physical law of entropy is stronger than God. Therefor, anything and everythign will break down given a long enough time. However, I think you may be worrying a bit too much here. Your express should generally last long enough.. until you plan to change 802.11n to another better format.
Yes, some go bad time to time, hence why limited warranty is only a year from DoP.
I suspect your issue may be due to interference. I'm curious what band are you using on those expresses.

  • No modem conection with voip over frame-relay

I'm trying to connect two modems through voip over frame-relay network using the modem passthrough command but that is no working. The voice calls is operating very well but the modems no connect between them. I'm using G-729 codec with ip header compression and data fragment in 80 bytes.

There are some know issues with cisco dsps and V.90+ modems, but we have been able to get most modems to work correctly accross our network. If you are using g729 for all other voice calls you will want to use the modem passthrough command to have both gw's turn to modem passthrough. I typically set up each dial peer with the specific commands, since I have found the global commands are not consistently applied. Here is a sample dial peer config....
    dial-peer voice 3 voip
    description Default voip peer
    preference 1
    incoming called-number .T
    destination-pattern .T
    progress_ind setup enable 3
    progress_ind connect enable 8
    modem passthrough nse codec g711ulaw
    voice-class codec 1
    session protocol sipv2
    session target sip-server
    dtmf-relay rtp-nte
    fax rate disable
    fax protocol pass-through g711ulaw
    ip qos dscp cs3 signaling
    no vad
Some of these commands are specific to the isdn signaling set up we have at this site. Also, we are using sip hence the sip session target. But the modem and fax passthrough commands are pretty much universal.
Also, some of those commands are not supported until 12.2.13. You might want to think about an ios upgrade.

  • After Service Update can't connect to ADSL Dialup ...

I received a 'Service Update Completed' notification e-mail this morning (16/7/11).
From 14/7/11 I cannot connect to the BT Dialup Server. Attempting to connect completely freezes the PC with no messages. Ctl/Alt/Del will not respond and the PC must be rebooted!
This occurs with Windows 98 and either an internal PCI ADSL modem or BT-supplied SpeedTouch 330 USB modem.
I have three completely separate PCs all using ADSL modem connection via the Dialup Server: two using Windows 98 and one using Windows XP.
The Windows XP system still connects successfully to the Dialup Server via the same telephone socket, so there is no problem with the line.
For all three systems an ADSL connection with the exchange is established successfully - but with the PCI ADSL modems this process is taking 10/20 secs longer than before, with several 'retries'.
The SpeedTouch dialup application crashes about 1 or 2 seconds into the process with the progress bar showing about halfway, but with no messages.
My evidence shows two completely separate PCs failing - no software or Internet connection configuration setting changes have been made (For over 5 years!)
I suggest that a change in the ADSL interface and/or protocol handling at the exchange is now causing an unhandled fatal error in the W98 Internet connection software and/or ADSL modem driver.
Have the updates been tested with BT SpeedTouch hardware/software under W98?
    This is a serious problem!
    [ Service Request Ref: VOL01152535189404 15/7/11 (Telephone support) ]
    Update 18/7/11
This morning an ADSL connection with the exchange can no longer be made via the internal PCI modem: it cycles through 'Attempting to activate line -> Training -> Channel analysis -> (Exchange) -> Attempting to activate line.......
An ADSL connection is still achieved using the SpeedTouch 330 USB modem, but attempting connnection to the Dialup Server still freezes the PC.

Thanks John46 and Seab20 for your interest and comments.
The irony is that I've had very reliable broadband with my 'antiquated' software and hardware for the last 6 years but this stopped working instantly following the Network Upgrade!  It was particularily annoying to receive an e-mail from the BT Retail Migration Team boldly announcing: 'Good News - we've upgraded our network in our area'.  It's certainly not good news for me! (And I suspect others).
Anyway, I have 'given in' and set up a BT Home Hub 2.0, connected to my Windows XP system via Ethernet.
The problem now is that the ADSL speed is severely limited - a major 'downgrade'!
    BTSpeedTester reports:
    IP Profile = 250Kbps
Best Effort Test: Download = 224K, Upload = 501K  Yes the download is less than upload!
What I suspect has happened is that in the periods of letting the SpeedTouch and PCI ADSL modems attempt to connect, their inability to synchronise reliably has forced the IP Profile to this very low value. There seems no way it will attempt to reset - leaving the Home Hub on for over 2 days had no effect.
It seems that the line might need to be 'reset' to start a new 10-day setup period.
This, to me, indicates poor design of the ADSL self-adaptive software. Clearly, such an anomolous situation has not been anticipated.
I reported this latest situation on 20th July. Since then BT support has not responded - not even a courtesy reply saying they are investigating.
I'm afraid this is typical of previous experience - the Team are quick to respond and refer you to 'solutions' which are of no relevance, but once the problem is in their court they go quiet!

  • Anyone added a  modem to M4000  / SUN M5000 servers  - via xscf  or other ?

    Hi,
Have any of you lads attempted to add a std analogue modem to an M class server, on older sun boxes the procedure is clear [ dedicated serial port, use tip with standard settings ] But for modern servers, cannot find any documentation on sunsolve or in server manuals etc - everything is for older class boxes where the procedure is clear.
New M class boxes have no serial port, the only option is the RJ 45 serial connector on the xscf console card.
I can connect to the port [ get "connected response from tip ], which is the default local serial console. But cannot get any response from the modem. Tried all sorts of cable combinations. The port is successfully configured for modem dial out. And if i take the modem off a normal terminal console window works fine if i re-enable the console service on the port. I have tried deleting and re-adding the standard ports and their associated port monitor services
Note i am only trying to get a response from basic AT commands not trying to configure PPP or a remote console or anything.
Dying to hear from someone who has done it and configured a modem to respond over this port. I assume this is /dev/term/0 or /dev/tty/a.
Can anyone let me know if i have missed something basic or need a non standard cable

For those interested, Sun support confirmed it is not possible and suggested it was a bit of a silly request. Though i did state the request was born out of hard core experience, when we completely lost our console and standard networks for 16 hours rendering the xscf card useless

  • Constantly having to powerdown modem and restart

I've been a long time verizon consumer, since 2006 when my wireless internet was connected.  I was supplied with the Westel Modem 327W.  Over the years I have been increasingly dissatisified as I'm always having to turn off power to the modem and restart.  Is verizon responsible for providing a consumer with an more current modem? Any suggestions?

    Hi Drtao_wi,
It sounds like something related to users permissions.
Could you try temporarily disabling disabling User Account Control

and right-click Run as Administrator on the Creative Cloud desktop app and see if the behavior persists.

  • Red number 1 over the setting app after the new update.

I just updated to the new update (iOS7), now there is a red number 1 above my settings app.  I am not sure how to get rid of this.  Any suggestions??  Thanks!

Sorry, for next time so you understand where to find it..
Click the icon for the TC and the status will show.. you can then see details for status.
A description of the problem will appear along with edit which opens the full airport utility to allow you to fix the issue. But it is probably in your case just typical Mountain Lion has lost its network marbles and cannot find the TC anymore.. or the TC lost its marbles and cannot find the modem.. especially over wireless losing ones marbles is fairly common.

  • Im about to reset my modem and need steps on how to setup stuff

I'm new to these things but i forgot my acc and pass on the 192.168.1.1 to setup a pass because people keep using my wifi and it makes my internet slow like crazy. Can someone provide me proper instructions with well explained details? thanks a lot.

OK. From this point, here's what you need to do. Before resetting your modem, see if you can obtain your Username and Password for the Verizon service, if you don't know this. It would be the same imformation used to log into your Verizon e-mail and Account area. Once you've gotten this information, locate and hold the Reset Button on your router down for 30 seconds.
Once the modem reboots, visit http://192.168.1.1/ on a PC connected to the router using Ethernet. Be aware, you may get a Verizon welcome screen upon opening your browser. IGNORE THIS, IT IS A WALLED GARDEN WE WILL SHUT OFF. The first time you log in, it will ask you for a Username and Password. Use the username of admin and the password of password. Another screen will pop up asking you to change the password. Change the router's password to something you will remember, but is strong enough to not be easily guessed. Save the password, and then log in with your username and the new password. If you are prompted to set up a PPPoE connection, use the Username and Password from your Verizon e-mail/Account page and enter it in. If all goes well, you should see the Internet light come up Green. In some areas, you can also use any User/Pass combination on the PPPoE connection to make it work.
From here, visit http://192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect.htm or http://192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect (whichever one works) and press the Disable button. From here, the Walled Garden as mentioned before will be shut off so that you can configure anything else, such as the Wireless settings you wish to use manually.
I hope I covered everything, and I also hope this helps. If you do get stuck or are lost in a step, you can always reset the modem and start over, or you can let the walled garden page perform it's duty and configure the modem (so that it can connect again) for you.

  • Turning internal modem on and off

I have a snow Airport modem using the internal dialup modem. Sometimes I just want to use it to transfer files between computers wirelessly. Its hooked up to one via a crossover ethernet cable.
Is there a way to turn the modem off? There's nothing obvious in the Internet Connect control panel and pulling out the phone cable has it endlessly redialling.

  • Modem for use with airport extreme?

I know that the AirPort Time Capsules do not have a built in modem and I need an external one.
I also have ADSL internet as opposed to Fibre so I need to find something suitable to sit between the Time Capsule and the interent. I realise that I could simply use the modem / router supplied by my ISP and switch off the wi-fi on that and just use the modem aspects, but this uses an additiional power source.
My question is: Is there a suitable modem that will sit between the AirPort Time Capsule and an ADSL internet connection that does not need and additional power source?
If not (and I suspect there isn't as I can't find one), then is there any benefit in having a independent modem only device over using the ISP supplied modem / router and switching the router aspects off?
Thanks for any advice as I am having a real nightmare setting up my third party modem / router to work with an Apple network with some additional non-Apple devices and feel that going down the all Apple route of an AirPort would just make my life so much simple...

    PPPOA is the big issue..
You cannot bridge to a modem running that authentication. There is no client that will work so the Apple has to be in bridge.. or some dicey double NAT setup.
The Thomson/Technicolor offers a dhcp spoofing but it goes through the NAT and it also causes heaps of issues.. Thomson modem routers have the worst possible NAT called full cone. You must manually bind all UDP ports to the NAT to get access.. and even that is not workable for many functions.
So you are quite right.. it is a mess.
Hence my thought to switch to an Apple router as it automatically opens relevant ports and recognises Apple devices. I have no idea (at this stage) how to set up a router / modem or bridge or other device to sit between the Apple AirPort Time Capsule and the ADSL internet connection.
Using the Apple router to open ports, is not going to help.. because you cannot bridge the modem.
So where do you end up.
The reason I am struggling with my Asus DSL-55n modem is that it is just too complex for me to get to grips with and there is little in the way of support documentation from Asus to assist me is overcoming the specific difficulties I have been having.
    What issues are they?
I do not particularly like Asus modems.. they are generally poor firmware.. but have you loaded in the latest firmware.. check for updates because they have been improving.
A solution might be the Draytek 120 modem.. it has a neat little trick where you do PPPoE to PPPoA on the modem.. there are a few that can do it but the only readily available now that I know of is the draytek.
There is a mode in the Thomson called PPTP to PPPoA relay.. this also works very well but Apple do not support these more esoteric connections.. it is better used on a third party router.
If it makes any difference at all, my ISP allocates me a static external IP address which I have paid for and is automatically pushed to whatever router I seem to use.
It is only significant if the authentication method is IPOA .. where you use the IP as static on the router and have no authentication.. but static IP for PPPOA simply means your public IP doesn't change.. useful and helpful but not a solution to this problem.
    http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/vigor120.html
Look at the setup for pppoa bridge.

  • Tilgin Modem

If any one is using a Tilgin Modem Model Vood 422_A - have you had issues with connecting Airport Extreme or anything MAC? I have use this Modem for well over a year with Apple products - without issue. Then, over night, it stopped working.
I have reset it, unplugged it, tried other cables - nothing. I tried connecting directly to iMac and my MBP - it acts as if there is nothing connected.
Then, I decided to connect a Windows PC - dang it, the LAN light on the modem fired right up and it worked. Without a problem.
I just recently installed the new update for Airport Utility - which might be a issue, but the iMac is still on 5.5.1 - and it does not work either.
So, if anyone has this modem, and has an idea, I would love to be back on line with my DSL and not this USB stick - as soon as possible. Hard to sleep when my mind is trying to find ideas on this.
    Thanks

Hi thanks for the help. Yes I am aware I need to access it. As well I have been accessing it
The problem is that if I take encryption off, there is some self defense crap in the modem and an "internet service is prohibited" page pops up. I know I can get on itunes from the modem because with the same modem + PC, I have no problem downloading apps. So I suppose the problem is in the wireless part of the modem.
There are three types of encryption algorithms, tkip, CCMP and tkip_ccmp, I wonder if one of them is the culprit. Also I see that the modem SSID consists of 2 names with space in between you know like "word1 word2". I wonder if I made it "word1_word2" would work?
Other than that there is WPA, WPA2, WEP and WPA/WPA2 security modes, other than that I dont see anything ...

Can I allow a friend to update her iphone to 1.1.1 on my computer? She doesn't have broadband and at 152MB it would take 2 days to download over dialup.

yes. However, be prepared to immediately stop the syncing process or else your contacts and stuff are going to merge. They pop up warnings about it and everything, but it will ask about it. I would have her do a sync at home just prior to be safe so she does not lose anything of importance to her.
Make sure you iTunes is the current version and upload away!!!! =-)
