Z68A-GD65 G3 / Tesoro Durandal G1NL (USB Keyboard) problems

Hi all.
I got some Problems with my new Tesoro Durandal G1NL USB-Keyboard.
1. I cant access the Bios (UEFI)
2. I cant use the Windows bootfunctions (F8)
In Windows 7 x64 everything is OK, but it seems the KB doesnt get detected by UEFI fast enough, maybe.
I got a 2600K (Sandybridge) CPU mounted, also I'm on 23.7 Bios (ME7)
Can someone help me?
Kind regards, Chris.

Flash to the latest beta bios and retry: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=163866.msg1213416#msg1213416
For this update you must >>use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< => Mode 1: Point to archive file!
Former problems with ME8 and Sandy Bridge are no issue with current versions.

  • USB keyboard problems in Entourage

I have an iMac late 2013 (Yosemite) and my USB keyboard is not working in Entourage. All the other programs are fine, so there is nothing wrong with the keyboard. Can anybody help?

I use a ps2 adaptor on my usb keyboard because of the problem I have with trying to get to bios. My computer loads so fast that the keyboard isnt lit up untill its to late too get to bios. It seems the usb port has no power till late in the game, and by useing ps2 im fired up right away. I dont know why that is. This info may not help you much, but I suspect there is something to it. The only thing else I can think of is a short term memory problem. good luck doc3128

  • Usb keyboard problems

I have a IMac and I cleaned my usb keyboard, when I connect the keyboar back it didn't work anymore but the mouse that is connected to the keyboard usb port is workin good. What can I do?

Apparently cleaning caused the keyboard itself to quit. The keyboard also acts a USB hub, and since your mouse is working it means the hub function of the kb is ok.
Cleaning should not destroy a kb, but if none of the keys is working, the kb is probably dead.
If you used a liquid cleaner, just letting the kb dryout might help. Nothing else I can think of without details of how the cleaning was done.

  • USB keyboard problem (990FXA-GD80)

    Hello guys,
This problem I will describe has occured to me in two games NBA2K12 and DIRT3 so far.
During gameplay suddenly the keyboard freezes and does not respond holding the last known command. (if for example I turned right in DIRT3 it will continuously go right).
In order to solve the problem I installed a very old PS2 Microsoft keyboard and fortunatelly I do not have any problems. The USB keyboard that I use is a Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600. I have installed microsoft drivers and keyboard programs with no result. I also changed USB port, no go, also connected it to a USB3 still no go...
Have you experienced something like this? Do you have any suggestions before contacting MSI support?
    Thanks in advance!

  • USB/Keyboard problem

I sometimes have to unplug my keyboard from my G4 PB. When I do, the machine immediately starts making a strange noise--like a hyper-fast drum roll. The curser flashes probably 10-20 times per second (or something like that).
This problem has always been with this computer regardless of the OS10 verison I am using.
The keyboard is a Macally iKey.
Anyone know how to fix it?

I'm also having troubles with my USB keyboard after periods of inactivity since upgrading to 10.5.2.
If I don't use the keyboard for awhile, it will no longer "work". If I unplug and replug-in the USB connection it will start working again. The same behavior happens on both my available USB ports.
It gets pretty annoying having to unplug/replug-in the keyboard.

A couple of things come to mind.
But first, are there any entries related to USB in your /ver/adm/messages file?
    You need to look there.
If there has been accidental damage to the USB ports and their connections to the systemboard, you could be looking at an expensive repair. I suppose you could experiment with adding a powered USB hub in between the system and the keyboard so as to compensate for any inadequacies of where you're attaching that keyboard. It will need to be the sort of hub that has its own AC-to-DC power source and not just be a passive peripheral. (I bought one at Walmart a couple of years ago for $15.)
However what I actually suspect is that your system is far down-rev on its OBP firmware level. There are a [number of USB related issues from 2006|http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/advsearch.do?collection=PATCH&type=collections&queryKey5=124409&toDocument=yes] noted in the README files of the older OBP patches.
Those OBP patches are cumulative, so if you just [get the latest one|http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/advsearch.do?collection=PATCH&type=collections&queryKey5=142703&toDocument=yes] you will have all the previous ones rolled into it.

Does anyone have problems with an USB-keyboard? Sometimes (not very often), the USB-keyboard just stop working in windows. When I unplug the USB-cable and put it back, keyboard start woriking again.
Always, when I switched off & on the power supply and then turned on the computer, the keyboard won't work. You cannot go to bios etc. Again, I have to unplug the USB-cable.
The other USB-devices, mouse and priter, work perferctly. There is nothing wrong with the keyboard, I have tried it in another computer.

  • Logitech usb keyboard problem

Since I updated from tiger I have a weird problem....
Suddenly my USB cordless keyboard (Logitech cordless desktop ex ex 110) changed a few keys by it's own it's not very annoying but I usually use them.
The given keys are < for º, and my keyboard layout is spanish (ISO) but I have the very same problem if I switch it to spanish or even english.....
Another fact is that this problem doesn't happen at all if i use my macbook integrated keyboard
    Any Ideas? ^^

Since there are no Mac drivers for this keyboard/mouse, it's no surprise that it works differently under 10.5 than it did under 10.4. You might be able to change the key functions using the keyboard pane of sys prefs.

  • Very strange USB keyboard problem

I am using the latest style USB extended keyboard, with my iMac G5
The "5" key and control key have gone wrong. I just get a beep when either is pressed. I note in Keyboard Viewer that pressing either the control key OR the five key shows that BOTH the 5 key and control key appear to be pressed. It is like the 5 and control keys have been locked together. To be clear, pressing just the five key = cntrl5
The 5 key on the number keypad works fine.
    I have reset PRAM
    repaired permissions.
set Keyboard Shortcuts in sysprefs->keyboard/mouse to default.
Confirmed that nothing is activated in Universal Access
I have tried the keyboard with another imac I have and the problem remains.
I have tried a different keyboard with the iMac G5 and all works fine.
I can only conclude the issue is with the keyboard and not with the set-up of the computer, OS etc. but I struggle to understand how this issue could be mechanical.
Does the keyboard have any sort of firmware that could be corrupted?
Note that the keyboard has suffered no abuse or mishap. The problem just "appeared" a few days ago.
    Suggestions/ideas to fix?
    TIA
    edit:
    I have just noted...
Pressing the left control key produces control-5 key stroke in Keyboard viewer as described above, but...
Pressing the RIGHT control key results in control-f5 key stroke.
So it seems the 5 key and left control key are locked together, and, f5 key and right control key are locked together.
    weird!

    Thomas,
I would concur with all the answers that the keyboard itself is the problem.
Here's a pic I took of the traces on a Pro keyboard:
    http://s291.photobucket.com/albums/ll306/spudnuty/?action=view&current=Keyboardt races.jpg
Those lines are conductive. Where they run parallel to each other they are very susceptible to shorting. However most often they open up due to fluids dropped on the keyboards. Just the tiniest drop on a trace will lead to a fault, especially if it's tea or coffee.

  • Z68A-GD65 (G3) issues: monitor stays on, mouse problems

    Hi,
First I need to mention that I already updated BIOS to latest version (23.1).
The BIOS once froze when I tried to exit without saving changes, but that was before I updated it.
    The issues are following:
    1. Randomly (about 50%-50%), upon shutdown the monitor will not turn off. I am running the integrated graphics of the i5-2500K CPU, DVI output. The system is shut down and not in some sleep mode, also I tried to flip the PSU switch and the effect persists (the monitor does not turn off even then). It keeps displaying a perfectly black image, and the OSD menu does not respond (cannot be brought up). The monitor is connected to an Aten DVI KVM switch, which I also reset to eliminate it as the sole issue. I've had many machines and different OSes (Windows, Linux), but never have I seen this before. It seems the system somehow does not shutdown the monitor properly.
    2. Upon shutdown, the mouse LED stays on. I'm using the same OS (Windows XP Pro 32-bit) as with the previous motherboard (Asus), and always the mouse properly turned off, so it doesn't seem to be an OS issue. Funny thing is, I also have one USB cable with a LED. This cable never turned its LED off on the Asus board, while it does turn it off on the MSI. This is another indication of weird shutdown, as mouse does not receive the shutdown signal. Even if power is cut, the KVM will keep powering it. This just happens to be the first motherboard, on which my Windows XP fails to turn it off upon shutdown.
    3. After the BIOS upgrade, the mouse does not work anymore within BIOS. The cursor is confined to one vertical line on the left side, and the motion is reversed (I move the mouse down and the cursor moves up). The mouse is Cooler Master Spawn. The funny thing is, that the BIOS update mentions improving compatibility with gaming mice, and the mouse was working perfectly before this update.
Note that this mouse-in-BIOS issue is minor, I mostly care about the first two.
To resolve the issues, I've tried toggling various BIOS settings like EuP 2013, spread spectrum, legacy USB support, etc. All to no avail.
    Please help?

    Quote
Have you connected the mouse directly to the USB ports of the board itself?
We need to get the KVM thing out of the equation completely.
Not yet. If the issue won't return with the other port, KVM will obviously be at fault. Not using the KVM is not an option to begin with, that's why I'm still testing through normal usage with the KVM. Either way, it's impossible to forcibly prove that something works since the issue not reappearing may only be a coincidence, no matter how many times you try. You can only prove it doesn't work when the issue appears, hence this approach. That is, I'm tracking down the issue from the nonworking side. Don't worry, if it reappears I will try direct connection. If it doesn't reappear on another port, I'd only be destroying my hardware with needless restarts since the issue could not reappear anyway.
Please allow me a week (max) for this, I'll report back. If it doesn't reappear in a week, it had to be KVM port/cable.

That is a different concept. A "safe disconnect" will basically log-out the respective drive (unmount it) and force all pending read/write/caching tasks to be completed.  However, this does not concern the functionality of the USB Ports.  They will still supply power, which means the connected device as such will remain powered.  It is just "logged out" of the operating system.
I was actually talking about what happens after unmounting. The HDD itself will stop spinning. This has nothing to do with flushing cache and unmounting. The system sends some kind of shutdown signal to the device. This was also identified as an issue on Windows 7, where by default windows did not shutdown external devices by default, when you "safely disconnect" them. Supposedly it was because of phones, which needed to keep charging and not shutdown even when you "safely disconnect" them. But people now complained they are afraid to pull the cable on the still-spinning harddrives. Windows XP does stop them by default, and on Windows 7 they offered a solution through a registry tweak that returns the XP behaviour.
So, this seems to be a special command. I'm guessing this is sent to all USB devices upon system shutdown, that this command is universal. At least, it was sent with the Asus board and now it isn't anymore.
If I connect the mouse directly it will most likely turn off upon shutdown. The cable LED already indicated that the board cuts power. That doesn't mean that it works correctly, since the USB device shutdown command, which is obviously needed with KVM switches, is still not sent for some reason. I hope nobody comes forward and presents this as a "feature"
I'll try to search in this direction, but I don't know that much about hardware/driver/OS chain, where the problem seems to originate from.
    Cheers!

  • Z68a-gd65 boot loop after bios update using USB

    Hi there,
My  z68a-gd65 (G3) went into a boot loop after I did a bios update from a USB key that I installed using the latest BIOS version on the MSI site 7681vP8.zip
After the system restarted, it keeps booting up for 5 seconds and then shutting down, I removed all external devices and the Geforce GTX 550 Ti card and used the onboard card, but still no change...
Is there a way to set the board to factory defaults again???
    Marcel

    Hi there,
Maybe for others to solve the same problem, I found out what was the cause of this problem, I had a USB/Firewire card installed in the PC, after removing it the BIOS update could proceed from the USB stick as planned.
After the update though, my USB/firewire card can still not be installed back into the slot, because doing so will make the boot loop appear again, very odd!
Does anyone know why this new BIOS will not work with the card that has been inside my PC for 2 years???

  • Z68A-GD65 (G3) issues.

    I'll start with my build,
    Z68A-GD65 Gen 3
    i5 2500k under Noctura NH-D14
    16GB G.Skill DDR3 1333 CL9 1.5V
MSI R6950 Twin Frozr II 2GB
Crucial M4 128GB SSD (in 1st intel sata 3 port)
    Antec HCP 850w
Bios 23.3 (or whatever, I'm on phone at work)
    A few issues;
I can't OC. If I try an oc, it boots, I get splash screen for msi, then hangs with blinking underscore. Even if I match oc genie setting for setting in standard mode. Using auto etc, set v core way high (like 1.4 for a mild 4.2 oc) it just seems to hang. I'm guessing something to do with the sata 3 controller, since I'm booting off ssd
Last night I started PC, went to bathroom, came back and it was loop booting. I hard powered it off, and restarted. OC failed, and that was oc genie at 4.2.
PC won't wake up from sleep. Have to hard power off (hold power button down) then restart and it resumes windows. Mouse and two diff keyboards won't wake it (performance mx mouse, g510 keyboard, and ps2 dell keyboard.)
G510 won't enter bios, have to use dell ps2 keyboard.
If in OC genie, or trying oc in standard mode, system double posts. Starts, runs 4-5sec (no display), powers down, starts back up and runs fine for hours (except the one oc fail on genie)
Any ideas on any of it?

No, thats the last official release. There has been a host of beta BIOS releases since. I just flashed to the latest .N48 today and I must say, I am very happy with the stability I now have.
If you intend to flash, use the forum flasher. >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
Do a full CMOS clear after flashing >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Also you will need to ensure that you set your BIOS back to AHCI, if you did that before installing the OS.
I further suggest you remove all RAM except one stick in the slot closest to the CPU before the BIOS flash. Only put the other RAM back after you have been through one boot cycle.

Ok, that is good news. The safe thing to do at this point is to enter the BIOS, enter 'Settings' menu, 'Enable' 'Multi BIOS Auto Update', hit keyboard F10 key and keyboard Enter key (Save & Exit) and let the secondary flash the primary chip for you automatically. It will show the progress of the flash on your screen. Without having the archive and forum's USB flash method perpared, it is too risky to attempt and flash your secondary chip.
After the primary is successfully restored, then ask the admin or a moderator to provide you with the necessary files, etc. to flash the last Sandy Bridge UEFI/BIOS version. V22.8 I think it is.
    yeayyyy it works..
    the Blue LED was stoped...
    my primary bios succesfully restored..
really big thanks man.. for your attention and advice..
    my problem was solved now..

  • Z68A-GD65(G3) boot problems and random crashes

    Hi all,
Built a new system last week:
    i5-2500k
    MSI Z68A-GD65(G3)
    MSI 6950 2Gb TFIII
    8Gb Corsair Vengence DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel
    Corsair HX650W PSU
    Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB SSD
Posted fine on the first power-up but then hung at 'Starting Windows' just as the logo starts to fly-in.  After a lot head scratching, removal of GFX, an HD with an image of W7 on it already (exact same issue), RAM swops etc I discovered that the top pair of USB ports appear to be suspect. If any device is plugged into either of them then the system will hang at that point.  If I use the lower (non-USB 3.0) it boots just fine.
I'm also experiencing an issue in games (BF3 and DCS A-10 so far) whereby I have a random freeze. The sound will go nuts and the lights on all USB attached devices go off (which make me suspect the 2 problems are related)
Anybody able to offer any advice? Do support monitor these forums (newbie  ).
