Z77A-GD65 won't post

My newly built PC wouldn't start the other day:
Z77A-GD65 motherboard
Core i5 3570K
8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
GTX 660
Corsair TX 750W PSU
Corsair Hydro 100i CPU Cooler
Corsair Obsidian 650D tower
It sort of tried to power up, fans would start spinning and then 1 second later it would all power down. This cycle would continue until I switched it off at the PSU. I took a look inside and noticed that the DRMOS red LED was lighting up. The LED 1 was also flashing blue.
All the reading I did on the problem suggested either the PSU or the motherboard was on the blink, so before I RMAed the motherboard I bought a new Corsair CX 750M PSU and set the motherboard on a wooden table top with just the RAM, CPU and standard Intel cooler inserted.
Now the DRMOS light no longer comes on but the LED 1 light flashes and goes out, the system "reboots", this cycle continuing until I switch off the power. The CPU fan isn't even spinning up now though.
Now 2 things:
1. The motherboard I got cheap as an "open box" item from Aria PC, so I have a feeling it may have been dodgy to begin with.
2. My old PSU didn't have an 8-pin EPS connector so I bought an adapter than plugged into the old style standard 4-pin IDE drive power connector. I hope this hasn't somehow fried the motherboard!
I can't find anything that tells me what the LED 1 light flashing on its own in this way means. Does anyone know?
Please tell me it's just the motherboard that's fried and not my beloved 3570K!
Should also say the debug LED panel doesn't even light up with any values and I've also tried switching the BIOS to A (it was set to B for some reason). I've also tried clearing the CMOS. Didn't help.

Agree. It sounds so close to working. Maybe the onboard graphics will work to try and figure out how to get it set up right.
Also sounds like he may need a clean formatted HDD/SSD to place a fresh OS install on.

I'm trying to boot my pc but for some reason doesn't work.
Board: MSI Z77A-GD65 ver. 2.1
Bios: ? (I do not know because I never get into the bios)
VGA: XFX ATI HD 5770 1Gb (tested with and without)

When I turn on my pc, LED1 lights up and after 5 secs restarts. When is restarting, two another leds blinks, one near multi-bios swtich and the other near JFP1.
No code appear on the debug display.

please give a more detailed list of parts your using in your machine as what you post is always the only thing we have to base any reply on as we do not have your actual machine to see what is there!
1: possibly bad or incompatible memory so what memory you using?
2: what PSU do you have as it may just be that there isn't enougth power to fuel the machine (give us the +12V rail/s rating/s)?
3: have you connected the 8pin CPU power header and is it fully seated?
4: have you tried the board outside of your case on a non conductive surface?
5: have you checked the CPU socket to see if any of the small connection pins are bent with a bright light and a magnifier as thats a common problem?

890FXA-GD65 Won't post.

Got the board in the mail today and assembled my "new" build, which is to say there are a few parts recycled from an older build, and the computer boots up through the MSI logo screen. Then for an instant flashes the POST screen. After that the screen just begins to flash a little dash at the upper left corner. I've tried to see where the board screws up at the beginning but it's just too quick to be seen.
I've tried booting it with unplugging everything the video card unplugged, and I still had the same problem. So I turn to here for anything else that can/should be done.

RAM: Currently looking to replace the current RAM, since I think it might be the problem. But it is currently Kingston 8gb DDR3, with 4 2gb sticks.
HDD: WD Caviar Blue 500gb, 7200RPM
Video card is a nVidea 9800 1gb of ram.
PSU is a brand new Antec Earth watts 530W.
All other peripherals are unplugged, which include a DVD drive, and wireless card, and a PCI-E firewire card.
No OS is installed, since I reformatted the drive to see if it fixed anything.
Am I forgetting anything?

P55-GD65 won't POST with SLI

Hi, I seem to have quite a strange problem - I have 2 nV 8800GTS 512MB cards, both work perfectly when "single", but as soon as I put them both in the PC won't start up - no signal to the display, no sign of booting. Interesting things are that the CPU phase LEDs are acting weird - after a few seconds, first 4 of them shut down and only LED #5 and 6 keep illuminated, sometimes after another few seconds the first 4 start flashing quite rapidly. Another thing is that one of the cards (always the one in the "lower" slot) keeps in the "startup" mode, with the fan on maximum RPM, the upper card quits it normally after a few seconds.
I suspected the PSU since it is rated only 650W, but both 12V rails are capable of powering each of the cards in 3D Mark, so I don't think it would be a problem for it to power them on startup.
Any ideas what may be the problem? Or at least a hint to narrow it down, since I now suspect both graphic cards, the PSU and the mainboard of being faulty and have no idea which to eventually replace.

Just did a bit of testing, the flashing LEDs thing turned out to be associated with Intel SpeedStep - apparently, as it lowers the multiplier, it also lowers the voltage down to approx. 0.95V and the LEDs go haywire. When I tried the SLI configuration with SpeedStep off, the LEDs remained lit and voltage readout on the multimeter was stable.
I also tried "stressing" the 12V rail by running both the GPU and the HDDs on it while running World In Conflict benchmark (don't really have anything better here at the moment) and it didn't seem to have any problems.
Just to clarify, according to the sticker on the PSU there are 4 12V rails, each 15A, one to CPU (4-pin connector), one to GPU (6 pin), one for IDE+SATA(+2nd GPU with an adapter) and one for I don't know what, with a 4-pin connector similar to the CPU one, only all 4 "slots" are perfectly square, no beveled corners as on the CPU one.
Anyway, I'll try to get someone to lend me some better PSU, but I doubt I would be successful, so if anyone has any more ideas on how to test it it will be greatly appreciated

P55-GD65 won't post

Hi,
My system has been working fine for over a year now, and all of a sudden it has stopped working. It will not post, and beep error code I get is one long beep, and two short beeps.
If anyone could help with this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

CPU: i7-860
RAM: 2 x 4Gb G.Skill
PSU: 530W Corsair
GPU: Radeon 5770 1Gb

Your PSU is actually 18A per rail with a total of 40Amps over the three 12V rails, which should be sufficient for your system, as the minimum recommended is ~34A with your GPU, assuming nothing has gone wrong with the PSU.
How many power connectors are on your GPU, and have you got them all connected ?
Only add the bare minimum, i.e. only one RAM module, your OS HDD. Do a CMOS clear >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Then retry and advise.

My 2nd MSI Z77A-GD65 won't start

Hi,
this is my 2nd motherboard with the same symptom.
as you can see in the video, the motherboard starts for less than a second and stops.
*please note* the ticking sound is the relay sound which start another PSU.
The first mother i had used for about a week and after that it didn't work. I sent to supplier and wait about 4 weeks and got this one.
After got the new one, I updated the firmware as it didn't recognise my display card. (same procedure as the 1st mobo).
After it successfully updated. it doesn't start.
Could you please advice what was going on? How 2 'military class labelled' motherboards fail the same ?

Z77A GD65 - Samsung Green Memory Issue

Hi all,
I have just built my new Ivy Bridge Machine:
MSI Z77A GD65 (BIOS V10.5)
i5 3570K
16GB Samsung Green Memory DDR3 PC3-12800 30nm (4x4GB)
There has been a lot of forum chatter regarding the Samsung Green memory and its incredible overclocking potential. Unfortunately the MSI Z77A GD65 fails to POST at anything above the default 1600MHz. I have tried different RAM timings and increasing the voltage to 1.65V, but nothing got my system to POST.
After doing some forum digging I discovered I am not alone, with other GD65 users having exactly the same problem.
As a result this feels like a BIOS issue with V10.5. Can anyone help?

Gigabyte have recognised the similar (same) issue they're suffering with Z77 boards... it's now been a month since anyone replied to me on this issue.
Asus/ASRock do not have this issue - so it's not related to Z77 or the RAM.

Here are the parts:
MSI Z77A-GD65 mobo
Intel i5-3570K LGA 1155
MSI N560GTX-TiHawk graphics card
Samsung 30nm DDR3 RAM 2x 4gb
Corsair H100 cooling
Samsung 830SSD
Silverstone ST1000 1000watt power supply (this and my HDD are the only components from my old build and the HDD isn't attached)
I plug everything in, check and recheck, and all the fans and lights turn on for maybe a second and shut off with no beeps. I've RMA'd the board and processor to no avail. I've been breadboarding the build since the first time it failed to start. I checked the power supply with the paper clip test and on my old build to see if it was the problem and it was not as far as I can tell. It still functions as it should with the old build.
I followed multiple instructions to trouble shoot this problem and haven't gotten anywhere. I've tried with just the CPU, H100 and a stick of RAM and still get the same issue. I've tried both sticks separately in each socket and had the same issue, as well as a completely different set of sticks. I've switch the CPU cooler from the H100 to the stock one with no results. Reseated everything. Reset the CMOS. This build has never posted so nothing is overclocked and nothing has had any firmware updates. I've tried everything I can think of to get this problem fixed and I can't find the solution. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I should probably note that my old build is pretty old so most of the new parts aren't compatible with it so I can't update firmware and such on my own if those are possible issues.

Yes, it has all the right ports and connections. The backplate is correct as far as I can tell.
After talking with MSI and a local computer shop my current best guess is that I got a board with an old version of the bios that isn't compatible with the processor I have. That means to bios will need to be flash updated, something I have no idea how to do. My local computer shop said they could do it for 65$ but with no garuntees if something goes wrong. So, I'm going to send it to MSI and have them do it.

Help! Z77A-GD65 mobo won't post - Debug LED says dE - no beeps

I'm not sure where to start. I came home to find my computer off. Turning it back on results in all the lights and fans coming back on. No post and no beeps. Screens are just blank.
The 8 blue CPU phase LED lights above the CPU are all on. Nothing unusual there.
The Debug LED lights show "dE" which isn't documented at all in the manual. Does anyone know what this error code means?
Z77A GD65 mobo with corei7 3770 - SSD - 4x4GB Corsair RAM - No GPU. Otherwise nothing special.
Where's a good place to start? Reset the CMOS/BIOS? Swap out memory sticks?

Power off, battery removed, CMOS clear may be worth trying. Yes, test each stick individually in the DIMM2 slot.
Added: Might want to hold off swapping BIOS chips until some more investigation is completed. Don't want to take the chance of possibly corrupting the backup BIOS chip at this point.

Z77A-GD65 - Secondary HDD won't spin down when set to AHCI mode

Hi, I have an issue with my secondary WD 1TB Caviar Blue drive which is used for Game installations, movies and music.
For some reason, when the Intel SATA controller is set to AHCI, no matter what's set in the Power Options under "Turn off hard disk after", it never spins down, it doesn't seem to affect it. I have absolutely made sure that no apps or processes are running from it. It only contains Games, Movies and Music.
I have even tried leaving the computer on overnight and accessed the disk on the morning and there is no spin up sound.
My board is an MSI Z77A-GD65, my friend, who has the exact same board and the exact dame drive as me doesn't experience this issue, on his computer, after inactivity, you access the drive and you can hear it spin up.
I moved the HDD to the external Asmedia SATA controller on the board and set it to IDE and it works perfectly.
So now there are several questions:
1. Why won't it spin down when set to AHCI mode?
2. Is it critical for a mechanical HDD to be set to AHCI if it mostly contains music, movies and game installations? Will I lose out on a lot of sped if I set it IDE?

Then... why HDD's SATA 3.0 are manufactured?
I'm having a similiar issue. When I try to set ahci on the Asmedia controller (I've got a WD 1TB 3,0 connected to) my system does not boot up. I can only see a black screen.
Just saying that the WD HDD is only for data, music, etc. There isn't any SO running on it.

Building new Z77A-GD65, i3 3220 and it won't boot.

All new components, Z77A-GD65 with i3 3220 CPU and it will not boot. When I tried to boot, it would run the fans up to about half speed, light all the green diagnostics LEDs, indicate FF in the Multi BIOs display and then it would power-down for a few seconds and then it would try to post again and again, repeating. Then, just to be certain that I was certain I replaced the CPU cooler, disconnected the two wire start switch and started it with the start button.
I'd like comments on the above diagnostic process, did I shoot myself in the foot along the way? What HAS to be connect to the motherboard for the post to complete?
What I done so far: Since all are new parts I exchanged several.
1. Exchanged power supply.
2. I took the motherboard to MSI RMA service in Walnut, CA and they checked out and told me it was okay. The next day a MSI tech at Customer Service told me that only the latest BIOs update would support the i3 3220 CPU so I went back to MSI and they confirmed that the i3-3220 CPU was supported.
I would appreciate some suggestions about what to do.

Did MSI verify that bios A5 or newer was installed on the main board?
Try building the computer on a non-conductive surface outside of the case. Install one stick of ram in DIMM 2, the cpu, the cooler and hook your monitor to the onboard vga.

MSI Z77A-GD65 No Post

When I first started my new system, I did get a display and entered the BIOS. I changed the boot order to put my optical drive first, put in a live CD, restarted, and got a black screen. I ejected the CD, restarted, and got a black screen again. I didn't get a display again until I disconnected all my drives whereupon I got a map error and was able to get back into the BIOS. A web search indicated this is a bug that occurs when no drives are connected so I reconnected the drives, restarted, and got a black screen again. I disconnected the drives again and restarted but I got a black screen again (no map error this time). I tried connecting my monitor to the graphics card instead of the motherboard and that didn't work. I tried removing the graphics card and video capture card and that didn't work. I tried clearing the CMOS by pushing the button and even removing the battery for several minutes and that didn't work.
Here's where things get weird. I tried testing the RAM by pulling out one stick and the system kept restarting itself: it would turn on then power off a few seconds later then, after a few seconds, start up again, etc. I had to wait till it powered off and quickly pull out the power supply's cord to get it to stop. I removed that stick and put the other one in instead and the same endless loop of restarting happened again. When I put both sticks back in it stopped restarting.
Since I couldn't get into BIOS A, I switched to BIOS B and got a display again. There was no option to restore BIOS A so I was forced to continue using BIOS B. Since my graphics card was removed at this point, I changed the BIOS to IGD instead of PEG for graphics and shut down. I reconnected my drives then restarted and got a display again and entered the BIOS. I changed the boot order to put my optical drive first, put in a live CD, restarted, and got a black screen. I ejected the CD, restarted and got a black screen. I disconnected the drives and restarted hoping I would get a map error and could get back into the BIOS but got a black screen again. I've tried switching back to BIOS A but still can't get a display.
I tested the RAM by putting it in my old desktop one stick at a time, and then both sticks at once, and it worked fine. I installed the optical drive and one of the hard drives into my old desktop and successfully installed and booted linux off of it with the no problems. The second hard drive does appear to be borked and my old desktop froze when I tried to boot with that drive installed. However I've tried starting my new system multiple times without that damaged drive connected and I still get a black screen so I don't see how it could be the problem.
The LED on the motherboard mostly alternates between 19 and 72. It will run through a bunch of codes too quickly to read then pause for a second on 19 (Early South Bridge Initialization) then run through a bunch of codes too quickly to read then pause for a second on 72 (Late South Bridge Initialization) then go back to 19, etc. I've sometimes also seen it pause for a second on 55 (Early Memory Initialization) and 4F (which doesn't appear in the manual).
I'm guessing it has to be the motherboard or CPU but I don't know which. I don't have another motherboard to test the CPU on and no other CPU to test on this motherboard (the old desktop is AMD).

Test each stick in Dimm 2 (2nd from the cpu) Make sure they are installed into DIMMS 2 & 4 (2nd from cpu and last)
Did you try a full cmos clear on Bios A?
If so, you can recover using this guide:

With the z77a-gd65, you will need to flash bios B to version 10.5. In that version in the security section is a multi bios update. Use that and it will recover bios A.

Z77A-GD65 Gaming won't recognize my Sapphire HD-7970 Dual-X

I just built a new system using the Z77A-GD65 motherboard and am unable to get it to recognize the video card. I get a debug code of 62 when I attempt to boot up the computer. Onboard video works fine as does an older video card I had laying around. Latest bios is installed.

thats a DXE code so its struggling to get pre-OS driver for the card! so i would suspect that the graphics card is faulty and needs to be returned for replacement!

Z77A-GD65 boot issue!

Hey.
I have this Z77A-GD65 motherboard which I bought around July 2012, which has been working great until this morning. First of all, I don't do any overclocking, It has no meaning to me and I didn't change anything on the BIOS, not even used it prior to this problem.
Problem is, PC won't post, It will turn on for 3-4 secs until reaching debug code 55 then it will simply shutdown and restart by itself, going into a cycle, just let me repeat, there is no BIOS, no post only black screen.
I tried switching Bios A and B, clearing data on both Bios A and B, replacing the Bios battery. I replaced the Core i5 3750K with a Core i7, I changed memory sticks, even replaced the 670 GTX card with a 660Ti card. Replaced my CoolerMaster PSU with a Corsair one and none of these changes helped.
I did this both inside the case and outside the case and gave the motherboard a good airblow to remove the little dust it had on it.
All the other component worked just fine in another PC.
So basically, I did every troubleshooting I know, It feels like a shortcut but I inspected the motherboard and it seems to be in good physical condition.
I think it needs a RMA, whats the best thing to do now?

SOLUTION for my problems with MSI Z77A-GD65 + MSI N670 PE 2GD5/OC

Lately I had problems with my GTX 670 video card (MSI N670 PE 2GD5/OC) under Windows 7 Pro x64.
I got a lot of "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" errors.
I had these errors once or twice a day, so I didn't really bother looking for an answer, also I couldn't reproduce the error.
Most games just worked fine, but not always... so I tried if I could reproduce the error.
I tried to stress test with MSI Kombustor and voila no windows error... noo... but the core voltage went to 0 mV within a minute and everything (screen / windows / kombustor) stuttered and I had to restart the system.
The strange thing was that the voltage went to 0 mV, but the GPU load went from 96% - 60% and back to 96%... why and how is this possible??
Now I could reproduce my problem... yes!
First I thought it was a driver problem, because I updated it to the newest version (310.70), so I tried to re-install an older driver and also the original MSI driver... no luck.
Maybe it could be a mainboard driver or some settings in windows, so I installed Windows 8... no luck.
Re-installed Windows 7 Pro x64 (basically because Windows 8 s*cks)... no luck.
I tried to put my video card in another system and there was no problem... so I thought my video card is not broken...
Maybe it's my my power supply... new power supply... no luck again... grrrr...
My solution was downgrading / flashing my mainboard (MSI Z77A-GD65) bios back to 1.5 instead of 1.7, because yes... live update had updated my bios... that was the problem.
I wanted to post this, because I couldn't really find the answer for my problem and maybe I can help a few people with the same configuration and problems.

Don't use TF II/TF III parts as they won't fit. Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo II or Accelero Mono PLUS are good value for money aftermarket solutions.
Thank you for the information and advice. As I was looking into those two, I noticed that Accelero's website claimed the Accelero Xtreme III would also fit, and NewEgg had it on sale, so that is what I wound up purchasing. It works quite well and is MUCH quieter than the Twin Frozr IV, even before the grinding noise started.
For anyone else considering this, please be aware that the Xtreme III is monstrously huge (it adds several inches to the length of the MSI N670 PE). Make sure you have plenty of room in your case for it.
