Zen Nomad Jukebox X

Hi
Had my jukebox for about 6 months now and all was well until yesterday! I had just copied some photos to the Zen for the first time (Loads of spare space still remained). After this, all the buttons froze. I can only switch it off by removing the battery. After reinserting the battery and switching back on, it tells me that it is rebuilding the library. It does then and then gets to the main menu but all the buttons are frozen out again. I have tried using a direct power feed but to no avail. I have also used the reset button, again unsucessfully. I have tried the USB connector and although my laptop does think about it - it tells me that the player is not connected. I am stuck with nowhere to go. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions? All gratefully received.
Thanks
Phil

  • Zen Nomad Jukebox: Won't charge after sitting

My daughters 30G Zen Nomad Jukebox Xtra sat, with the battery in, for about 3 months after she lost it due to low school grades.
After she got her grades back up, I gave it back to her, and it won't charge at all now.
?The charger itself is fine (I checked the 5V with a multimeter), and the unit was charged and working when I took it from her 3 months ago, which is why I don't understand it. I did try the reset button with a paperclip. but it didn't help.
When it's plugged into the charger, there's absolutly nothing on the screen indicating that its charging at all, when there should be an indicator light on it. HELP!!!!!!Shawn

Well, tech support got back to me with the following instructions, that didn't help me at all, but I'm hoping it will help someone else, so I'm pasting it here.
For my problem though, I still don't understand how a working player gets put into a desk drawer, and 3 months later, it comes out and won't turn on, even with the power adapter in and the battery out.
    Maybe its a magic desk.
    Any ideas.......anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
    Shawn
:::::::::::The following is pasted from tech supports email to me:::::::::::
With regards to your enquiries, I understand that you are having issues
    charging the Zen Xtra battery.
May I know if you feel any warmth on the power adaptor while charging
    the battery for 5-30 mins?
    Please try the following:
    - Remove the battery from the player.
    - Power on the DC input connecting to the player. Power on the player
without the battery in the player for 2 hours.
    - After 2 hours, place battery into the player (Check if it is charging)
    - If it is still unable to charge, remove the battery and place battery
    into the player again.
    - Repeat the following steps for at least 2 times.
    - If the charging indicator appears, charge the battery for 4 hours.
Shall the issue persists, please test the player unit with another
battery. Perharps your friends have a player of the same model? This is
to determine if the issue is with the player or the battery.

  • Zen Nomad Jukebox NX hangs up during EAX load

My Zen Nomad Jukebox NX hangs up during the loading of the EAX screen. I've looked trhough similar problems and solutions on this page without finding any aduquate solution proposal.
    I've tried doing the following:
entered the rescue mode and tried to "clean up", when i do this nothing happens and i may contiue selecting the clean up option or select another. It doesn't seem to affect the player at all.
I've also tried to select both "reload OS" and "Format all", both times the player gives a error message, "harddisk problem".
Since the computer is unable to detect the semmingly not functionable player I can't find access my player.
    Solution?

A "hard disk problem" error is a serious one, and clearly indicates something awry with the hard disk. You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net at your OWN RISK. If you don't want to try this or are under warranty then contact Creative Support.
If you aren't under warranty you can contact Creative Support to see if they will repair it. If you want to try repairing it yourself, taking the risk the hard disk is at fault, then you can follow Rudi Cheow's excellent guide. There's also a thread here at the Zen Nomadness.net forum on compatible dri'ves, and the last page of Rudi's guide also has information on this.

  • Tips on changing from Zen Nomad Jukebox Extra to Zen V Plu

My new Zen V Plus is on its way to me. I am looking for any tips or advice on changing over from the Zen Nomad Jukebox. For instance, is it the same Mediasource program (I have ver. 2.03.29 now)? Will my songs and playlist be able to go over to the new device seamlessly? Ideally I'd like to connect both devices to my PC and then use Mediasource to transfer from the Jukebox to the V Plus, possible? Thanks in advance for any help.........

Scheidhaus: I would hope that the aircraft isn't interfering with the player, and I honestly can't imagine it would. I have heard of one case before with a Nomad Jukebox that failed to work when the player was at altitude, along with another recent post here about this. All I can think is that the air pressure on the plane is a factor and is causing problems with the hard disk. Very strange though.
Have you simply tried resetting the player when you have problems? You'll need to keep a paper clip with you for this, or borrow one from the cabin crew

  • Zen Nomad Jukebox Extra- Player stops working on airpl

OK this is weird but recently I noticed my Nomad Jukebox Extra won't work on airplanes in flight. It starts working early on but about 3 or 4 songs into the flight and it starts sketching. It jumps around on a point in the song and then quits playing the song. If I hit play the arrow appears but the timer doesn't advance- stays at 00:00. I reset the player and it doesn't help. Then if I try more I get the repair/reload OS/reboot screen. Now to make it more complicated when I land and the engines stop the player plays fine.
My thoughts : Recently I upgraded the OS to the latest version. I wonder if there could be interference from the engines or if my headphones which have a volume control are acting like an antenna and intereferring with the play. I haven't tried different headphones or seeing if the song still freezes with no phones.

  • Zen Nomad Jukebox 3 questi

I no longer have the install cds and I am trying to install an old Zen Jukebox 3... any suggestions, advice?I have the computer finding it, but I can't locate it to transfer from or to. In the device controller, there are two USB ports on this old computer, one holds a mouse, the other holds the Jukebox. It has a listing that shows three USB ports... one unused, one with Human Interface (the mouse), and one with unknown. When I double click on the unknown, assuming it's the Jukebox, it says the device is working properly and no drivers were installed. When I look further and ask to see hidden devices I find the Jukebox, it says that the software it has is the best it can suggest. HELP!?!?thanks,?Ot

I don't see any mention of this in your post, but did you download any files from the website? If you select the product on the Downloads page, it will show a page that says the product is a legacy device, but if you click on "Search archi'ves now" you will see the files that are available for it.
You can download a driver for the player, and software (MediaSource and the plug-in).

  • Frozen Zen Nomad Jukebox X

Please please help - previous requests for help have so far gone unanswered.
Everytime I switch the unit on it goes straight into re-building the library. It completes this after a minute or so and then presents the main menu. At this point the unit is frozen and will not respnd to any of the buttons being pressed. I have tried the reset but it always goes back into the rebuilding library mode then frozen and so on. I estimated that I have used about 20% of the available capacity. Please help as it really is frustrating.

  • Zen Nomad Jukebox Prob

I've had my player for a few months now and everything's been great. i'm loving it!.
I normally make sure the battery is completely flat before recharging it so as to try and make it last longer.
I recharged it as per normal and for some reason it needed to rebuild the library. (i'm assuming because the battery ran flat midway through a song) but it couldn't finish rebuilding it came up with the 'firmware problem' error.
So i accessed the recovery mode menu, i did a disk cleanup, i even reformated it to no avail.
So i downloaded the latest firmware to install it, but my laptop says that the player is not connected, my other PC says the same thing, and the firmware driver tells me to connect the player and restart the program....
So i can't install the new firmware to get it going again.
I need to fix this quickly, i got this mp3 player for an upcoming trip!
    help!

This is not necessary with Lithium Ion, and in fact it's better for the overall life of the battery to top it up rather than deep cycle it.

  • Should I install "Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSourc

I have the Play For Sure firmware on my Zen Touch, now I'm going to first install the driver on my computer, then install the creative media source, then the play for sure software suite, and then the media source CD plugin. Should I also install the Zen & Nomad Jukebox plugin afterward or that's only for ppl who haven't upgraded the firmware?
    Thanks!

The "Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource" is for those who have the non-PlaysForSure firmware. So, you do not need to install it.

  • No driver found - Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - WinXP

I have used my Zen Xtra for over 2 years now, with the same PC I am currently having problems with. I recently had to do a complete reinstall of Windows (note that I have done at least 2 other complete reinstalls during the life of my Zen Xtra, with no problems). Windows Device Managers sees the NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, but with the yellow question mark and exclamation point. Each attempt at driver installation results in the same problem. The driver ("JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE") installs completely, I'm told to reconnect my device so the driver can take effect. When I do, the device is still marked in Device Manager with exclamation point and yellow question mark, and Windows continues to ask if it can find and install the driver. I have told it not to (knowing that I just installed Creative's own driver), with no success, and other times let Windows try to install the driver (hoping it would find the Creative driver that was just installed). No luck. I have even done another complete reinstall of Windows, and tried to install the driver before any other program or hardware installations into my system. No luck. Note that there are no hardware changes between now and when I have done other complete Windows reinstallations. It just no longer accepts the Creative driver. I have also tried to install the driver in safe mode, with the same results. I have also completely removed the Zen Xtra (showing hidden devices in the Device Manager), and tried to reinstall. Firmware version of Zen Xtra was upgraded over a year ago to 2.0.03.
    Specifics:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    38GB free hard dri've space
    Zen Xtra firmware version: 2.0.03

I have the same problem. But when i try to installl it it says he is missing an .nfo file.
I removed WMP and reinstalled WM0 because is crap.
    I have Windows XP SP2
I have the newst firmware on it.
Can somebody help me with this because it's annoying not to put any new music on your mp3 player.
I never experienced this before even after formatting my HD.
Almost the same problem as fritzm but not completely because het gets an different error.
I have installed the CD but that doesnt work either.
I have installed the software from the website but that didnt help because he doesnt recognize my player.
    Please help!!

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60 GB can't be found through Mediasource Organizer

I have been using the Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra HDD Player since a few years and I have always been satisfied. But recently, I had a massi've computer problem, forcing me to do a complete re-install of Windows XP, without the chance to backup my old XP.
So of course I also needed to reinstall the Nomad Player. However, since I can't find the CD-Rom with the driver, I had to download (almost) everything.
At first I installed the drivers of the player and then I installed the Nomad Explorer (I still had that one on an old HDD). When I start the Nomad Explorer, the player connects and I can see the music that is stored on the player.
However, in the past I never used the Nomad Explorer, I always used Media Source Organizer. I think in the past I had Version 3 and later I updated it to Version 5. So now I went for Version instantly. I downloaded it and installed it. But here it starts to get strange. I closed the Nomad Explorer and disconnected the player, then I installed the Organizer. During the installation, I was told that the organizer can't find any supported devices, I should connect and start the player and try again. So I did. This time, the installation finished itself - but when I startet Media Organizer, it couldn't find my player.
I once read something like that you need at least Windows Media Player 0 or . Since I had 9, I installed 0, but that didn't change a thing.
So, does anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong ? Or maybe I forgot to install some normal Windows stuff, that is required by Media Organizer ? For example, I haven't installed DirectX yet (but I tell you that just as an example, I don't think that it's DirectX related)

You need the Creative Nomad Jukebox? plug-in 5.00.22 for Creative MediaSource5 found here.http://support.creative.com/Products...me=MP3+Players

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra stops working with XP following Windows Media Player 11 Beta Installat

Yesterday I was very pleased to find that my Creative Zen Xtra (model DAP-HD00) portable media player is a PlaysForSure capable device. Creative Labs, on November 9, 2005, released the Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware v2.0.03. I installed this firmware (I had to install the Creative ZenJukebox Driver v.30.03 first to get Windows to recognize the device). Once the firmware was upgraded, Windows began recognizing the Zen Xtra as a MTP device and life was good. I was able to synchronize it with both Napster To Go and Windows Media Player 0.
After this, I went ahead and installed Windows Media Player Beta, which I just downloaded yesterday as well.
From a functional standpoint, WMP seems to run just fine. However, when I connected the Creative Zen Xtra (with its PlaysForSure firmware), Windows redetected the hardware. It first showed "Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra" in the tooltip, followed by "MTP Device" in the new hardware tooltip. Finally, Windows announced that there was a problem installing my new hardware and that it may not work properly.
Sure enough, when I went into Device Manager, my Zen Xtra was showing as an MTP Device with an exclamation point on it. More specifically, it specified the status of, "This device cannot start (Code 0)."
Prior to the installation of Windows Media Player, the Creative Zen Xtra showed in device manager with the following characteristics under the heading "Windows Portable Devices":
Name: NOMAD Jukebox Zen XtraDriver Version: 5.2.0.0 dated 8/30/2004Digitally Signed by Microsoft Windows Component Publisher
    Driver File Details:C:\Windows\system32\wpdusb.sys - v5.2.3802.3802 built by dnsrv(bld4act)
Windows Media Player changed this to the following (the device now shows up under "Portable Devices"):
Name: MTP DeviceDriver Version: 5.2.5326.4762 dated 2/22/2006Digitally Signed by Microsoft Windows Component Publisher
    Driver File Details:C:\Windows\system32\wpdusb.sys - v5.2.5358.4827 (WMP_.060509-2009)C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\wudfrd.sys - v6.0.5348.0(winmain(wmbla).0604-339)
The file wudfrd.sys is NOT digitally signed in this case.
As of now, my Zen Xtra is completely unusable on this system, and I need to sync it with my laptop for the time being, which still has WMP 0 installed on it.
Is this a bug with WMP beta? Is it a problem with my firmware? Since this is PlaysForSure compliant firmware, and it worked flawlessly with Napster and WMP 0 (before the MTP driver was updated), it would seem to be a WMP beta issue. I'd like to hear more official confirmation on the subject, however.
Some general details about my system are:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2Verified GENUINE Microsoft operating system using Genuine Advantage ValidationIntel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2 GHz, Hyper-Threaded processor2.00 GB RAM
Windows Media Player Version: .0.5358.4827Napster Version: 3.6.0.7 (US)
Any recommendations? Fixes? Some have suggested rolling back the WMP installation, but I would like to consider this option only as an absolute last resort.
    Best regards,Matt

Ok, this worked out accidentally - but happily
I first installed the driver - not the media source - but the driver for the device.
After that the windows device manager yellow sign disappeared - apparently the device driver was registered by windows.
Then I Installed Mediasource 5 - the installation went thru fine.
Does anyone have any recommended updates to install, please also advise what benefits.
    Thanks.

  • Zen Xtra Nomad Jukebox suddenly not recognized by Windows XP Netbook

I'm desperately struggling to get my Creative Zen Xtra Nomad Jukebox MP3 player (version .03.02) to be recognized by my computer. (My background is I'm about 4 hours south of my home, temporarily helping my exwife who is slowly dyiing of cancer... [URL"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA67hNO3H4"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA67hNO3H4[/url] I have two laptops with me, one with XP (and the other rarely used here with Vista.) My main computer, a Dell Desktop running XP, is back at home with most everything else as I live out of a suitcase and do the best I can.... 'nuf said for my situation)
About 3 weeks ago, I hooked my Creative mp3 player up to my MSI netbook, (windows xp and recently updated with all microsoft updates) and noted that the MP3 player was not being recognized by the computer. When plugged into the USB, my computer gave a 'chirp' and would look for hardware for the player, but ultimately it couldn't find it. The DEVICE page of the SYSTEM menu had the Jukebox listed with the nefarious yellow question mark. Though I don't have a CD drive on this computer, I had a portable drive with most of my software with previousl loaded software archived there, including the installation disc for my MP3 player; but none of the drivers or software that I loaded would make a difference. I download all sorts of drivers & firmware updates from the CREATIVE web site, nothing changed. I would remove all the creative software, reload, reload software, hook up the MP3 player, and.... it would recognize the Nomad player but have no way to incorporate drivers for it's use. Even as I directed it to the original 'CD' copied onto my netbook's desktop, my Windows XP with service pack 3 just couldn't do more than let me know that it couldn't quite recognize the player other than identifying what it was.. I could uninstall the device, the drivers; all to no avail.
My incorrect guess at the time was that something internal to the mp3 player was broken and though I was lucky that it still worked as a player without any issues, I just had no way to access the 30Gb of books & lectures. Nor would the Creative Media Source work with it, as it felt that the player was not even hooked up to the computer. So,I bought a new 'used' identical model on ebay, except that the seller had upgraded the firmware and the harddrive. Once I got the new player, it's too, would not be recognized by my MSI netbook. (though it works on the laptop I have running vista).
Last week I gratefully went home for one day to check my mail and attend to a few matters, and upon hooking my original MP3 player to my main desktop, my original MP3 player immedately docked to my computer and was working as it always had?
Now, atleast, I knew the MP3. player was working and functionally intact, and the challenge was completely computer software issues on my netbook, possibly due to some service pack upgrade or the sort.
I've spent several hours, reviewing all sorts of fixes and maneuvers; from blogs and tech support pages, though none made any difference as I changed various settings or softwares on my netbook. I saw lots about Vista not supporting my old firmware (which isn't an issue as my Netbook is XP.. I also saw that Windows Media player might have been the problem, and reverted to WMP 9, then to 0, though stlll no change.
I have never turned to a tech support board before, but I'm very much in need of assistance right now. Please, if you think you can guide me, I would appreciate it.
    ~Stuart

Thanks for the reply. I sure wish I had a better understanding of this. I will request one more piece of invaluable knowledge from you! My old zen & windows xp computer hum in awesome performance again. Unfortunately, since I thought my old zen was broken, I'm now with this new beast, with the updated firmware 2.0.03. From what I previously read on Boards and Forum pages, this device shouldn't be connected to my XP computer while I'm still using my OLD zen with old firmware. As you mention in the above note, I connect this 'new' Zen to my Vista computer, & it immedately goes into docking mode. I tried loading the newest firmware available for my device (though it doesn't list vista as compatable), and of course, when the mediasource version 3.30.2 loads, it doesn't have a clue that my zen is connected. Only WMP version seems to pay attention, which may not be that bad. But once I was up & running in WMP, I couldn''t seem to create playlists and or even clearly get it to load the Audio Lectures that I have onto it. So, Wise, All Knowing CREATIVE Wizard, any suggestions what I do? Delete WMP? I will hope never to bother you again, once this is solved!!!
But I am tremendously grateful for the assistance. I only spent about an hour in WMP accomplishing nothing, before I realized I should just turn to you, admit my defeat, and hope for insight and practical advice!!!!!
    Thanks!!!
    ~Stuart
