Zen Xtra (Nomad) - Unable to read from device error (have tried everythi

Recently, I've been having problems with my Creative Zen Xtra Nomad mp3 player. One day it started freezing and lagging massi'vely when I would enter nomad explorer. Now it's virtually impossible to drag and drop something from nomad explorer to my computer or vise versa (keep getting the unable to read from device error). However, sometimes I am able to get an mp3 or two after about 5 minutes of transfer time.
I have no idea why it is doing this. One day I'm transferring my data back and forth with no problem, and the very next day I am getting this freezing, lagging, and errors when trying to transfer. The only thing that changed was me formatting my computer in between it working and it not working, but I did reinstall the driver and nomad explorer once I formatted (I'm also using the same USB 2.0 cable, but it worked fine the day before, so I am pretty sure that's not part of the problem). I was using the mp3 player to store about 0 GB worth of data for when I formatted, and now I'm unable to retrieve virtually any of it. I've tried everything under the PC Connectivity link short of formatting the mp3 hard dri've (and that is not an option because I need the files). I took it to a friends house to try on his computer, but it acted the same way. I'm completely stumped. Is there anything I haven't ruled out? Also, I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2, and I was using SP2 before the format as well if that has any relevance.
Please let me know if I've left out any important information relevant to this issue. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
-Noah Patterson
Edit: I'm having the exact problem as this guy, but I didn't seem to find any answers on his thread.

Never use MP3 players to store important data, or as a single point of storage for any data (that includes keeping a backup of the player's audio tracks). You can have problems like this with accessing the data, as well as simply dropping the player and losing the lot.
There are a couple of methods I've seen that have worked to retrieve data:
. Driver update - either update to the latest drivers, or nonsensically downgrade to the drivers that come on the install CD.
2. Notmad Explorer - use the Xtreamer function in Notmad Explorer's trial version (which is free) to access the data and download it. It will be tedious, because I assume you have to download one file at a time.
As for your general problem, I would try using Creative's MediaSource instead of Nomad Explorer to access the player (people generally don't have good experiences with Nomad Explorer).
Also make sure you download the latest versions of the drivers (taking above into account), MediaSource, and the MediaSource plugin from Nomadworld.com downloads.
Once you have the data off (hopefully!) you might simply want to reformat it if none of the above hel

It's just the Google homepage tribute to Pacman turning 30 today. A playable game starts up automatically, use the arrow keys to move Pacman. It's fun!
You can get Ms Pacman to appear in that game by clicking the "insert coin" button twice and using the WASD keys to move :)
You can also just change your homepage to something other than google until tomorrow.

  • I have some books in Ibook which have not downloaded and I am unable to delete them.  I have tried everything I can find on the net but nothing works.

Some books I purchased and downloaded free in my library in Itunes on my PC dont download properly when synced with my ipad, they only half-download.  I then tried deleting them from ibook on my ipad but they just wont delete no matter method I try.  I have found going to my pc and dragging them out of the library onto the desktop they show up as a pdf so I put them into bluefire reader on my ipad using the ap section on my pc.  Dont know what is happening here.  Since I downloaded the new version of itunes seem to be having lots of problems.  I have sifted through everything I can find on the net and tried some things but nothing seems to work.

Beads63, have you rebooted the router, this is the most common fix.  If you have and it has not worked have you any new electric items that could interfere or changed your set up at all?

  • "Unable to read from or write to your player" Zen 1

I have a new Creative Zen 6G and am using Windows Vista. While using the Creative Media Organizer, I tried to create a new playlist. The player shows all my folders, and when I try to open the folder that contains the majority of my music, the message "Unable to read from or write to your player" appears. Does anyone know what this message means or what I have to do to fix it's Thank you-Melissa

Have you tried adding from a folder rather than iPhoto to see if that makes a difference? Create a folder on your hard drive called called "iPod Photos" or something similar and drag the photos you want on your iPod to it. Under the photo preferences for the iPod, point iTunes to "synchronize photos from" and choose to update from your new folder.

  • Unable to read from Jukebox Need Urgent he

Need help, fast, Only got and a half day left to get my Creative Zen Touch to work, I have tons of important files in it and I need it badly!I'v been using my Zen touch as a storage device like a USB or sumthin, newaiz, I just upgraded the firmware to .0.03, from .00.06 to .0.03 to be more detailed. I have read some other posts relating to this kind of matter, I tried the ... Disc Clean Up solution, downloading the latest software except those CD burners program, I uninstalled all of my Creative Programs and installed an older version of the program and still didnt work then I upgraded those program and still wont work. Went to read the FAQs, couldnt find any answers. Can anyone please give me a useful response? I need it badly Please be fully detailed, I am not very familiar with shortcut details. Thanks

Sorry this is not an answer but I just posted this on the European boards and it might make solving this problem a bit easier:
Player: Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 30GB
    Firmware: .20.08
    Explorer: 3.0.0
    Driver: .26.02
    OS: XP SP2 updated
    MB: MSI K8Neo Platinum (MS-7030) (AwardBIOS 6.00PG)
    Processor: AMD Athlon64 3200+
    Memory: GB Patriot 3200 DDR
Video: ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (DNA 3.4.4.) (Directx 9.0c)
    Sound: Audigy Gamer (03030 driver)
    HD: Maxtor 6Y60MO (60GB)
So I made the mistake of using my mp3 player as the sole backup device for 30 Gigs of my music. I used the motherboards included highspeed USB port by the way. So now that I have reformatted and reinstalled everything I try and copy it all back from the Data Library section of my player using Nomad Explorer and end up waiting a few minutes while the software decideds if it will freeze or not before ending up with an error of: "unable to read from jukebox device"
This is MOST DISTRESSING, I would really appreciate more help than the other 2 people who posted this problem got (read: none). So if anyone has any ideas besides reinstall nomad explorer (which I did) then I am all eyes.
Thank you for your time and help.

  • Zen Xtra Nomad Jukebox suddenly not recognized by Windows XP Netbook

I'm desperately struggling to get my Creative Zen Xtra Nomad Jukebox MP3 player (version .03.02) to be recognized by my computer. (My background is I'm about 4 hours south of my home, temporarily helping my exwife who is slowly dyiing of cancer... [URL"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA67hNO3H4"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA67hNO3H4[/url] I have two laptops with me, one with XP (and the other rarely used here with Vista.) My main computer, a Dell Desktop running XP, is back at home with most everything else as I live out of a suitcase and do the best I can.... 'nuf said for my situation)
About 3 weeks ago, I hooked my Creative mp3 player up to my MSI netbook, (windows xp and recently updated with all microsoft updates) and noted that the MP3 player was not being recognized by the computer. When plugged into the USB, my computer gave a 'chirp' and would look for hardware for the player, but ultimately it couldn't find it. The DEVICE page of the SYSTEM menu had the Jukebox listed with the nefarious yellow question mark. Though I don't have a CD drive on this computer, I had a portable drive with most of my software with previousl loaded software archived there, including the installation disc for my MP3 player; but none of the drivers or software that I loaded would make a difference. I download all sorts of drivers & firmware updates from the CREATIVE web site, nothing changed. I would remove all the creative software, reload, reload software, hook up the MP3 player, and.... it would recognize the Nomad player but have no way to incorporate drivers for it's use. Even as I directed it to the original 'CD' copied onto my netbook's desktop, my Windows XP with service pack 3 just couldn't do more than let me know that it couldn't quite recognize the player other than identifying what it was.. I could uninstall the device, the drivers; all to no avail.
My incorrect guess at the time was that something internal to the mp3 player was broken and though I was lucky that it still worked as a player without any issues, I just had no way to access the 30Gb of books & lectures. Nor would the Creative Media Source work with it, as it felt that the player was not even hooked up to the computer. So,I bought a new 'used' identical model on ebay, except that the seller had upgraded the firmware and the harddrive. Once I got the new player, it's too, would not be recognized by my MSI netbook. (though it works on the laptop I have running vista).
Last week I gratefully went home for one day to check my mail and attend to a few matters, and upon hooking my original MP3 player to my main desktop, my original MP3 player immedately docked to my computer and was working as it always had?
Now, atleast, I knew the MP3. player was working and functionally intact, and the challenge was completely computer software issues on my netbook, possibly due to some service pack upgrade or the sort.
I've spent several hours, reviewing all sorts of fixes and maneuvers; from blogs and tech support pages, though none made any difference as I changed various settings or softwares on my netbook. I saw lots about Vista not supporting my old firmware (which isn't an issue as my Netbook is XP.. I also saw that Windows Media player might have been the problem, and reverted to WMP 9, then to 0, though stlll no change.
I have never turned to a tech support board before, but I'm very much in need of assistance right now. Please, if you think you can guide me, I would appreciate it.
    ~Stuart

Thanks for the reply. I sure wish I had a better understanding of this. I will request one more piece of invaluable knowledge from you! My old zen & windows xp computer hum in awesome performance again. Unfortunately, since I thought my old zen was broken, I'm now with this new beast, with the updated firmware 2.0.03. From what I previously read on Boards and Forum pages, this device shouldn't be connected to my XP computer while I'm still using my OLD zen with old firmware. As you mention in the above note, I connect this 'new' Zen to my Vista computer, & it immedately goes into docking mode. I tried loading the newest firmware available for my device (though it doesn't list vista as compatable), and of course, when the mediasource version 3.30.2 loads, it doesn't have a clue that my zen is connected. Only WMP version seems to pay attention, which may not be that bad. But once I was up & running in WMP, I couldn''t seem to create playlists and or even clearly get it to load the Audio Lectures that I have onto it. So, Wise, All Knowing CREATIVE Wizard, any suggestions what I do? Delete WMP? I will hope never to bother you again, once this is solved!!!
But I am tremendously grateful for the assistance. I only spent about an hour in WMP accomplishing nothing, before I realized I should just turn to you, admit my defeat, and hope for insight and practical advice!!!!!
    Thanks!!!
    ~Stuart

  • "Unable to read from or write to your play

When I go to create a playlist with the music that is already on my Zen, this pops up. Why isnt it working? Its probably something really simple that I overlooked... but Im stumped. I came here as a last resort

I received this same message and came on here to find some help. I am using the new Creative Zen, 6 gig.
I am using a Windows Vista computer.
When the player is docked and I am using the Zen Media Explorer, I go to "create playlists"
The player loads, I can see all of my files and most of my music on the creative playlist wizard. I clicked on one file (containing most of my music) and this message pops up. "Unable to read from or write to your player"
    Any suggestions?

  • "error occured while reading from device"

when trying to sync our itouches the device is initailly recongnized in itunes and will begin to sync , but never gets through the whole proccess - each time it gets to a different step, but always ends with error message "ipod cannot sync as an error occured while reading from device" or something close to that...any ideas or help please....
i have checked the usb drivers...uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and removed the security software that I can find....

It could be to either a problem with a "file" that is either one the iPod or on the computer that is trying to be read for syncing. I would in order:
    - Reset the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod via iTunes. First from backup then to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Unable to read from Java MQ Queue in Unix

    Hi,
I developed a small application that uses a scheduler as an input to a jcd. Once invoked, the jcd reads from a Java MQ queue and writes the result to the log.
I developed the application on CAPS 6 in Solaris 10.
We are however unable to read from the queue in Unix. The code returns an empty queue, even though the queue does have messages in it. Below is the code in the jcd used to read from the queue:
    int recCount = 0;
    +while (true) {+
    com.stc.connectors.jms.Message txtMsg = JMS_1.receiveNoWait();
+// break out of loop, if no more messages+
    +if (txtMsg == null) {+
    logger.info( "Record Count is :: " recCount );+
    break;
    +}+
    recCount+;+
    +}+
The same project, imported into CAPS 6 on a Windows platform, works without issue.
Has anyone experienced compatability issues like this with Java MQ between Windows and Unix?
    Adt

This is probably coz of the JMS header.
Try setting MQJMS_CLIENT_NONJMS_MQ as the target client and also try retrieving the message as ByteStream rather than TextMessage.

  • "unable to find root device" error with linux-lts

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem with booting linux-lts after a recent upgrade (3.14.39-1 -> 3.14.43-2). In particular, I get an "unable to find root device" error.
I have look at other threads for potential solutions; I have tried a) re-installing linux-lts, b) adding 'block' before 'autodetect' in mkinitcpio.conf before the re-installation, and c) changing /dev/sdb4 (my root partition) in syslinux.cfg to UUID and PARTUUID. I still get the same error.
In the emergency shell, running 'blkid' does not show the root partition in the output.
If I boot from the latest kernel (4.0.4-2), it all boots fine.
Does anybody have any ideas on anything I could try to get linux-lts to boot? I'd prefer to stay with the lts kernel if possible.

Yeah? And did you see this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … nvironment ?
Here you need to set the right hooks if the root is on a USB drive, if you use RAID, LVM, or if /usr is on a separate partition.
No, of course you missed it...
Boot your install using the Fallback entry. If you do not have a Fallback entry, press Tab (for Syslinux) or "e" (for GRUB) and rename it initramfs-linux-fallback.img. After it boots, open up a terminal and run:
    # nano /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
<add "usb" to the HOOKS line>
    # mkinitcpio -p linux
    # reboot
And don't forget to mark it as solved.

Again without stating the trouble shooting steps you have taken, its hard to direct you with any information.
Try a different port on the computer.
Does the iphone beep when u plug it up. ?
Plug iphone into computer and give it 3 to 4 minutes to see if it connects and is running slow.,
Delete the apple mobile device from your computer.
    Upgrade itunes to newest version.
Is you USB cord defective ?
Any USB 3.0 on your system ? .
Delete or Disable  any antivirus program on your computer ?
I will tell u the problem is your computer not the phone.
We could do this for hours.

It works fine for a while then the iTunes account vanishes from 'computer' menu TV screen.  Full Wifi signal on both devices so can't think what could be causing it to happen. Sorry, I updated another thread I was a part of but didn't update my own thread.....ughhh!
I updated all of my ATV 2's and 3's to the latest firmware when it was released and have been problem free since. I do believe the major issue of not being able to connect after a period of inactivity has been corrected with the latest ATV firmware.
I can look at my network connection table using "netstat -an" in a CMD window and I do not see the massive number of connections I saw before the update.
Here is a link to the other thread I was referring to above:

Have you applied the latest firmware updates to your ATV 3's?
