ZESM Client XP3 Zenworks 7 NAL

We've experiencing issues since deployment of the ZESM client onto a clean
set of Windows XP Pro SP3 HP xw4600 into a non-domain environment with ZESM
in standalone mode.
The workstations have Client32 4.91 SP5 and ZenWorks Agent 7.0.1.0. We have
two ZESM polices, one with no CD, USB access and one with CD and USB access.
On both of the policies the firewall is set to all ports open.
When a user logins to a machine one of the following can happen.
1) During the stage that NALWIN launches, applications start to deploy as
set because of force run, however during this NAL will error with
Could not configure workstation for application [Novell eDirectory
Application Object full context] (id=34822) Problem: Unable to access needed
network resource [App:INI Settings]. (D0:E)
Or other errors relating to accessing eDirectory attributes. At this point
the workstation is now broken, if a user tries to refesh NAL then all the
icons will disappear.
2) On the odd time, the login script will error with drive mappings and the
error code:
3) The workstations suffers a "Windows - Delayed Write Failed", Windows was
unable to save all the data for the file
C:\............................................... ................. The data
has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer
hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
This fault intermittent but happening during the day across the batch of 24
workstations.
The .sen policies are delivered via NAL, it appears to be linked to a change
of policy but this is not always the case. It also looks like a timing
issue/issue with ZESM blocking network for a few sec.
On machines which lose their apps, you can still access the network shares,
and in Novell Connections it still shows the attached servers.
We have a Service Request: 10496360551 with Novell, but just wondering if
anyone has seen this issue or had any ideas. This is service affecting.
On the SR it has our .sen and some debugging information from ZESM and NAL.

Adam,
I haven't used the ZESM client jointly with the ZDM7 agent. However, I have some comments:
- Are you using the latest IR6 ZESM client?
- Why are you deploying two policies to the endpoints? Only one policy can be applied to a given client at a time. No merge or inheritance can happen. You can, however, define multiple locations with multiple Storage Controls on it.
- Have you tried using the ZSC client in a managed (ZESM server) scenario?
I may recommend you to also post this question to the ZDM7 support forum (if not already done), since the error messages you posted are more related to NAL/ZDM than to ZESM. Maybe someone can help you a bit more on this issue.
Cheers,
Daniel

  • Empty ZENworks Window(NAL) upon login-April 2013 follow-up

I know this is from an older post back on April 9, 2013, but I am still experiencing the same issue. I have troubleshooted this to no end since then, but have not come up with a solution yet. Since the original post, I have upgraded my ZENworks servers to 11.2.3a and have done the same on my clients. Sometimes the only solution I can find is to uninstall and re-install the ZENworks agent. I can't seem to find what is causing this as the issue is sporadic and not occurring everywhere.
Any ideas? I have copied the original post below.
    Thanks.

There is a cache corruption issue that I am also experiencing that I believe
MU2 and now 3a resolves. I have had to do exactly what you are doing.
waiting for the early adapters to shake out the current SP before I install.

I am having periodic issues in which users report that the ZENworks
Application Window is empty upon login. The bundles are shortcuts to run
..exe files that are installed on the workstations, web url shortcuts,
shortcuts to run .exe files on a network server. These bundles will not
show up when there are or are not requirements for the bundle and does
not depend on the user that logs in. I have the shortcut for the
ZENworks Application Window in the "Startup" folder for all user in
    WinXP and in the c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start
    menu\programs\startup .
What I have found that works to get the applications to re-appear for
the users is to re-register the computer with - zac reg -g
    https://servername .
    The particulars:
    ZENworks version-11 sp2
    ZENworks servers - four(4) primary servers; Windows 2008R2 sp1
    ZENworks database - Windows 2008R2 sp1; SQL 2008R2 sp2
workstation OS - Windows 7 or WindowsXP
    Windows 2008R2 AD domain
Any thoughts on why this happens?
    Thank you.

This sounds like it could be the problem we had with earlier ZCM
versions that the local db cache would get corrupt in the ZEN agent,
causing the machine to appear as if it's unmanaged. To help identify
if you might still be experiencing this, the next time this happens
would you do a zac cc followed by a zac ref on the machine and see if
    the bundles come back?

  • ZESM Client proxy issue

I've recently been asked by our networking department to see if it's possible to have the ZENWorks Endpoint Security client not pass traffic through the proxy server.
I haven't been able to find a lot of information on the subject as to whether or not it's possible to configure the client so that it doesn't pass through the proxy server (other than a post that suggested setting the LAN for bypassing the proxy for local addresses), but I would assume, based on the fact that traffic does seem to pass through port 80, that it would require access through the proxy as a result - especially if the client is outside our network trying to update itself from inside.
Is that a correct assumption? Or am I misinformed?
Any suggestions would be really helpful - thanks.

  • Pushing the ZESM client without admin rights

When we try to push the client for users with normal user rights using ZfD7 we fail because the MSI has an "local administrator?" launch condition.
Even after removing this using ORCA or something alike after the installation we still get the message "Installation failed".
Anyway the client seems to work as designed then but we would like to get rid of this message.
Does anybody have an idea? How does everybody push the client?
    Thanks,
    Simon

Weird, I doing the same thing using ZfD7 but get the mentioned error message...

  • ZENworks Agent + Novell client on domain joined pc

    Hi,
We are in progress of migrate a MS domain to E-directory domain.
There are a new bunch of new pc's which will have our base image (with Novell Client SP3 IR9 & ZENworks 11.3.1) installed which are in a workgroup.
There existing pc's will be manually updated with Novell Client en ZENworks client.
My tought's were to unjoin the pc's in the domain and then install Novell Client en ZENworks client.
    What are your toughts?

First comment. I have to say that in all my years on here this is the first
time I have seen ANYONE moving back to eDirectory as opposed to being forced
off their beloved eDirectory. Welcome back! LOL.
None of my 8500 systems are in a domain although we do have one for various
services including Exchange. We use IDM to keep users and passwords synced.
Presuming the users account already exists and its not a volatile user you
should be fine. I am presuming in ZCM you are setting up a DLU policy that
will control and manage the local user. As long as the local user exists the
DLU won't try to create a new one and you won't get prompted by ZCM"
box.with a "whats your credentials". Personally we have had no luck pre
installing the agent and then sealing the image. There are a lot of
documented steps you have to go through to clean it up. If you don't you are
going to have all kinds of issues in ZCM. We just found it easier to run it
after the fact. Tech is going to be their anyway setting it up so why not
let them finish it is where we went. So in conclusion install your client,
install the agent. Reboot. Login local first time. your WS won't have the
DLU policy yet and you will need it for the normal login process to work
smoothly. Do a ZAC CC ref if you want the policy quickly. After that user
logs into Novell, credentials pass through, ZCM agent see local user exists
and password is the same and voil*. User has their desktop. good luck.

  • Object of type Novell.Zenworks.ActionManager.ActionResult cannot beserialized{}

    What the heck does
Object of type Novell.Zenworks.ActionManager.ActionResult cannot be
    serialized{}
    mean?
Seems like app deploy of ZESM 3.5 client is not reporting status to ZCM
10.1. ZESM client tries to deploy over and over and over and over. Ended
up having to set bundle requirements so it checks to see if c:\program
    files\novell\zenworks security client\stengine.exe exists so it won't
install if it's already there. I don't really like this workaround.
It seems as though, partway thru the ZESM client install, the workstation
looses its connection to the network (I see the systray icon indicating
it's broadcasting for a dhcp address.). During this time, Adaptive Agent
cannot send updates to the zcm server. Eventually the workstation
reboots (even though I've specified in the bundle AND in the ZESM msi not
to reboot). When it comes up, ZESM client is installed, but Adaptive
Agent does not think so, and tries to install again. The occurs for
eternity, until I reimage the workstation, or go into safe mode and
disable services, etc... Which sure ain't cool.
Bundle is set to install MSI once per device. Runs as logged in user.
    Run at user login.
Thanks in advance for any clues

I wasn't actually for sure if I did know what it meant. Sorry I was not
    more open about that.
My understanding of serialization is simply a method to which move
objects, either to a file (stream) or to another object or system.
    >What does this error mean. I am getting
    >it when ( I think) I am just trying to deploy a simple windows

    >indicate which package/bundle generated the error.
    >
There might not be anything wrong with the bundle or package now that I
think about it. Of course we don't want the error message, but in general
there might not be anything wrong other than this specific situation.
    >So the action manager goes through and one by one attempts to perform
    >the appropriate action (in my case launch) for each object for which a
    >user/device is assigned ? and if any one of those objects in this
    >(serial) string of events fails, then this error is generated ?
    >
    >I am wondering of some of these are as simple as, the user logs out,
    >before the action manager finishes its list. ?
I am wondering if the bundle is deploying the ZESM client and wants to
send back a message to the ZCM server about the launch status or
distribution status. This could be done, I don't know for sure as I am not
a developer for ZCM, but this could be done with serialization. So the
bundle is sending a status message back to ZCC, but the ZESM client
install is killing the network connection at the exact time this is
happening which is generating the serialization error.
We might need to do more testing before we can find a fix for this.
Are you saying that other simple bundles do not have this issue? Example:
A bundle that launches calc.exe does not have an issue?

  • How can the ZESM agent be upgraded?

On a workstation, there is a ZESM client (v3.5.0.144) running. This ZESM client
    - was managed by a crashed ZESM server (v3.5.0.144)
    - has a (forgotten) uninstall password set
Now I have installed and configured a new ZESM server (v3.5.0.160) and I want it to manage that workstation. How can I achieve this?
    Possibility #1
    - first I uninstall the old client then install the new one (v3.5.0.160)
    - the fatal problem: I can't uninstall the old client since I can't provide a valid uninstall password
    Possibility #2
    - I upgrade the old client by installing the new client (via SETUP.EXE) on top of the old one
    - the fatal problem: this is not supported by SETUP.EXE (it tells me that I must uninstall the old client first)
    Possibility #3
    - I create an MSI installation package with the upgrade option enabled
    - I have used the following command: setup /a /V"STUPGRADE=1" [based on chapter 9.2 of the Installation Guide (install.pdf)]
    - the fatal problem: the MSI installation package is not willing to perform the upgrade either: it behaves in the same way as SETUP.EXE (by telling me me that I must uninstall the old client first)
So my question concerning possibility #3:
    - how can I generate an MSI package that is willing to upgrade the old client?

run the upgrade with with the setup.exe but do not do a /a.
    So setup /V"STUPGRADE=1"

  • Customized WinPE with zenworks third party?

I used MDT to create my own deployment share, when you update the share, it creates its own custom windows pe iso/wim files so you can boot with your personalized settings or automate the process. I don't think zenworks lets you import these custom files into the Third Party Imaging Settings, at least I'm having trouble getting them to accept. Seems that it'll only accept the files that come with the MS ADK. This is a bummer, if true. Might have to ditch zen imaging and go with windows deployment server. :\
Not having much luck finding anyone who has experience with MDT/Zen

After Installing the ZCM Agent Initially, If you immediately remote the
"Initial-Web-Service" File, it will not automatically register.
Then after restoring the image, during the Sysprep Deployment phase, you
restore the file and the agent will then try to register next restart or
    agent refresh.

  • Uninstalling client

Has anyone had success in uninstalling the client without the machine locking up?
I've tried uninstalling with the add/remove programs and I've tried the command line that is in the documentation. It just seems to hang the machine and the only way to get out of it is to reboot.
Current agent is based on the 3.5.154 iso download.

I have had a lot of grief with uninstalling.
    remove all network cables,
    reboot,
    local logon,
    uninstall
Seems everything is 'bound' if the machine is logged on with a domain user or network interface active.
don;t forget the bit at the end.....
    netsh int ip reset reset.txt
    netsh winsock reset
.... or anything installed later that uses the network stack will be toast.

  • Switching to a Location if using a 3G Modem

I want to have EndPoint automatically switch to a Location if it detects that the computer is connecting to the internet using a 3G (broadband) modem.
When I hover over the Endpoint client icon it shows my wired connection with a cross (that's correct - it's unplugged) but it also shows my modem connection with a red cross.
It is a Telstra 3G USB modem. It shows up as a Sierra Wireless HSPA Modem
I suspect that the Endpoint client just doesn't recognise it.
Has anyone seen anything similar? Please ask me for whatever info would help you to help me.
Ultimately, I want to limit the use of the USM modems to a specific list and force the internet connection through a VPN connection. However, the first step would be to have it recognise the modem at all.
    Thanks, Alison

    Alison,
ZESM should find all real adapters and modems but by default the ZESM client would not detect any virtual adapters. By any chance do you see your modem connection as a virtual adapter?

  • Problem with ESM on some computers

We have been having a problem with ESM on some older computers. The
computers all seem to be older computers running WinXP SP2 (Dell
OptiPlex SX260). The computers have the Novell client, either 4.91 SP4
or SP5, and either have the Microsoft client for Microsoft Networks
turned off (unchecked) or uninstalled. The computer will be running
fine, we'll install ESM on them and then when the computer comes up
after that it won't login properly. It will accept the login, but then
says access denied but keeps going. All drive mappings fail with a 470
error code and the login script ends with an 8885 error. I look in the
Novell client and it says that the user is authenticated to the tree and
connected to the servers but can't access anything on them. I can try
logging in as many times as I want and it won't map the drives. If I
try to get to the NSS volumes using UNC paths, it won't work. I can try
a UNC path with the IP address instead of the name and still the same story.
We've found two ways around the problem and neither are acceptable:
    1. Remove ESM
    2. Go into the network control panel and uncheck the Senforce ESS
Filter Engine. After that, I can try to login and it goes right
through. I don't even have to logout, just right-click on the red N and
choose login. Everything maps just fine.
The firewall is set to all open so it isn't blocking the ports. Or at
least it isn't set to block them.
I say we've had the problems on the SX260's. We've only tried this on
SX260's and a small number of newer Dell desktops and laptops (Optiplex
    740, 745, 755, Latitude D620, D630). Only the SX260's are having the
problem. They also, however, are the ones with the Microsoft client for
Microsoft Networks either turned off or uninstalled.
We're about to open another SR with Novell support but it is difficult
for us to leave a computer in a non-working state so we can work with
    support on it.
    Any ideas?

for us to leave a computer in a non-working state so we can work with
    support on it.
    Any ideas?
    Sean,
I have seen login issue with the Novell client and zesm if a firewall is enabled.
Is it possible to do the following:
Right click the ZESM client and go to About
Click Diagnostics, Logging and select all
Once you have logging enabled on the client please duplicate the issue.
Please post or attach the log so we can see it.
You will find the log in c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\senforce\logs

  • FDE will not encrypt disks

    Hi Everyone,
I'm running a net-new ZCM 11.3 install and am having trouble with FDE.
I have a simple FDE policy, configured without PBE enabled, associated to a single Win7 workstation. Current Novell Client and ZENworks Adaptive Agent are installed and all current Windows Updates have been applied.
The drives will not encrypt though. When the policy is applied to the workstation it goes through all the motions and appears to be successful. FDE on the client though usually gets stuck at "Policy Being Applied" (even after the reboot forced by the policy) although will sometimes fall back to "No Policy Enforced" if I let it sit long enough.
I've tried this with multiple workstations (though all built from the same image... this image encrypts fine on our old 11.2.4 ZCM), multiple versions of the policy, and even completely different policies.
In each case, the following errors and warnings get logged on the client each time the policy is applied. I don't see any reference to these errors in the documentation...
    Has anyone seen this?
    Thanks,
    Ian

  • The administrator has temporarily disabled access

Some of the bundles under my client's ZENWorks Window when they try to run them manually give an error:
the administrator has temporarily disabled access to this application
I checked the bundle in ZCM and it's enabled, no restrictions etc... but for whatever reason they won't run. They used to run fine. We are 10.3.3 on ZCM running on Windows.
    Thank you.

  • Zennw32.dll

Does anybody knows what to do with this error:
zennw32.dll is missing the entry point: nwappLoad0D
This error apears when booting the machine (before showing the login

  • Preboot imaging messing with the computername script

I have created a Windows 7 image with sysprep/unattend.xml : licensing, vbs script that change the computername to serial and last runonceex installing drivers, novell client and zenwork agent then cleanup and reboot.
I use a vmware snapshot made in sysprep audit mode to be able to test it.
The image works greate every time when running the finished image in vmware from capture ready snapshot but when capturing it with img -mp and later booting the image the computername script does'nt work as it should.
The ZW agent and computername is set but... when right klicking Computer then properties, computer name said that "(the new name will be set after next reboot)", only when relogin 1-2 times as administrator.
I have tried to automate one more reboot, modify the order of computername script to run erlier etc.
I use the removemask to disable SIDchanger so that only sysprep takes care of it, first because I guessed a SID conflict was creating my problem, without any luck.
I know it's a bit blur info of my problem but I wonder if "maybe someone" have had a simular problem as me?
Maybe you got any ideas of why?

Yes I found this old entry

This look like the same issue I have.
I did'nt understand exactly what the fix in the thread was but I make my image from a snapshot taken in audit mode on a new installed win7 after shift+ctrl+f3 during welcome wizard. I have installed a few hotfixes, sp1 and my installation scripts.
The image is a scripted unattend solution that drag all drivers, clients and ZCM agent from smb shares and exept the name "feature" every thing else works perfectly.
I pxeboot machine in to zcm bash and capture it with "img -mp imagename.zmg".
If I look at the vm before sysprep I have one driver in device manager that is not installed but is this an issue?
