Hi and welcome to the forums!
A couple of places for you to visit: Blackberry 101       Tips & Tricks
When you say the device if "thinking" it is really trying to work without having enough system resources to work in.  Best thing is to pull the battery out with the device ON. Wait about a minute and put the battery back in. Let the BB completely restart and see if that doesn't help. Clears out the memory and refreshes the BB; like rebooting your pc.
There is also a free app called Quickpull that will do this without your having to actually pull the battery. Check it out here: Quickpull
I have mine set to restart every morning at 4:30 so my BB is refreshed and ready to go each day. Sometimes, however, a real battery pull seems to do an even better job such as when you have installed any 3rd party apps or when your BB just feels sluggish from prolonged use (like posting in these forums
When you have anomalous behavior in your BB a battery pull often helps to clear it up too.
Make sure you are closing apps using the BB menue key; not just the back arrow (which doesn't actually close the app, but leaves it running in the background and eats up memory.  Hit menu, scroll down to close and select close.
Go to media-options and see what your device memory limit is set to (5, 12 or 15 MB on my Curve)  This is the amount of device memory set aside for the device to work in.  You want to keep your file free number higher than this number or your BB will begin to delete old emails, texts etc to make room for itself to operate.
Let us know how it goes.  Happy to have you here!

    Has anyone ever heard that FTP adapter can cause FTP process to stop and end up with 0 byte file transferred?
    We use the normal ftp script to ftp file from external file server place file in XI inbound folder so that file adapter can pick them up from that folder.
    We have encounter a few 0 byte FTPed file in our system. One suspecting is the network between XI server and file server might get some interruption. With out just blaming on the network. We would like to know if there is any possibility that it is also causes by our file adapter? Says, it try to read the file that is not yet complete transferring make FTP give up transferring??
    We would like to know if FTP process is transferring the file over and file adapter try to read, what will happen? Will it read file with incomplete content and ftp still go on? Or will it stop reading and return back error as the file could not be open? Or it will force FTP process to let go the file??

    Hi,
    ><i>We would like to know if there is any possibility that it is also causes by our file adapter? Says, it try to read the file that is not yet complete transferring make FTP give up transferring??</i>
    have not seen the file adapter causing any such problems. So, it looks like a network issue.

    Am not exactly sure, but when a file is being created and the file adapter tries to read such a file, the file would be READ and WRITE Locked and so File adapter should not be able to read such a file until the creation of the file is complete.
    Also, take a look at the note :  <b>821267</b> , question 31 for how file adapter processes empty file.

  • Zero byte files not transferred with FTP Adapter

    All,
    I am seeing that zero byte files are not being transferred using FTP Adapter (SFTP type). Is there a known bug around this? Please respond if anybody have seen this behavior and resolved this issue. I am using 10.1.3.3.0
    Thanks,
    Dipal

    Thanks Marc,
    I still have doubt if that is the case. When I tested the same from 10.1.3.3.1 windows platform and FTP being windows OS zero bytes files transferred OK. Do you think this is to do with OS or SOA version?
    Thanks,
    Dipal

  • Copy doesn't work and creates zero bytes files that I can't delete.

    After installing Yosemite (I am now using version 10.10.1) I had problems copying files.
    Sometimes (not always) it doesn't copy files from a folder to another using the simple cmd-c cmd-v procedure. Even if both folders are on the desktop. It creates many empty files (white icons, zero bytes) named as my files, but the copy isn't happening.
    The main problem is that I cannot delete the files anyhow. If they are in a folder I can delete the whole folder and empty the trash.
    It doesn't happen everytime, but yesterday I had the same problem copying a few videos to the desktop and I can't get rid of them (because I obviously can't delete the desktop folder...).
    Can anybody help me? I need to be able to delete those zero bytes files that are now on my desktop.
    I tried to drag them into a folder but it wouldn't let me. As well, I tried to copy the same files to the desktop to see if they disappeared, but the new files copied were renamed with 2 (ex. I had the zero byte file called IMG_0705.MOV on my desktop. I tried to paste the same file and it appeared named as IMG_0705 2.MOV).
    I don't know what to do...
    Thanks

    Take it to an Apple store or AASP. How much it will cost will depend on their determination of the problems. To bad you didn't purchase extended AppleCare. No you don't get your money back for purchasing Lion.

  • FTP Interruption creates 0 byte file

    Hello,
    When I use a receiver file adapter to send an .xml file to an FTP server I will occassionally get a 0 byte file.  When I look in RTWB I see that the file initially failed and then succeeded on the first retry.  Since I am using a time stamp on the file, the file name changes and does not overwrite the 0 byte file.  How can I have PI clear up the old 0 byte file.
    I believe using Put File:  "Use Temporary File" will allow me to use a .tmp file but I'll still have a bad 0 byte file in the folder.  It will just be easier to recognize.
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Zero Byte Files

    When I ran a smart folder consisting of all files with Zero bytes, I got a dozens of them (including a lot in the preference folder).  Is this normal?  Should I be trashing any of these or do they serve some purpose?  I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.4.

    This turned out to be a user error. However, I realized this after fixing the error by deleting the follwoing files:
    Check if the issue exists with another user? Continue if the issue is not reproducible.
    Delete all the preferences from ~/Library/Preferences/*.*
    This fixed the issue. However, while deleting the plist files, I realized that the issue was as a result of bad task I created in Automator. The process was replicating the zero byte files. The issue could've been resolved had I traced my steps back to the time when I first saw the problem. Could've save me some time in customizing my desktop from scratch.

  • 0 byte files in /usr/bin

    Hello all,
    I just found a bunch of 0 byte files /usr/bin uname, unexpand and pubsub are just a few of about 50 files.
    Anyone know how I can restore those files?
    uname is needed to build som unix tool using MaxPorts.
    Thanks

    It should not affect your data BUT you should always back up your data routinely & regularly, whether or not you install anything. Computers & hard drives fail, sometimes catastrophically & without warning. The only way to protect yourself from this is to back up anything you can't afford to lose.

  • Downloading 0 byte files

    Hey,
    I have a problem with the fileReference.download() method.
    Everything works fine, except downloading 0-byte files. There
    occurs always this error:
    [IOErrorEvent type="ioError" bubbles=false cancelable=false
    eventPhase=2 text="Error #2038: Datei-E/A-Fehler. URL:
    http://192.168.0.42/exchangeFolder/leer.txt_1204624995519"
    The file exists on the server, and if the size of the file is
    bigger than 0 byte it works too.
    Is there a solution for downloading 0-byte files.
    Would be glad for every hint

    As per the docs it is expected behavior.

  • Occasional 13 Byte Files

    My company recently swapped from FMS 2.5 to 4.1. After the swap we have noticed about 1 - 4% of all videos recorded end up as a 13 byte file on our file system. If you view the file, you see the contents of it are the typical FLV header:
    vim:
    FLV^A^@^@^@^@   ^@^@^@^@
    hexdump:
    0000000 4c46 0156 0000 0000 0009 0000 0000
    000000d
    Has anyone run into a similar issue and found a solution? Our initial guess was it was based on a FMS error related to metadata not being included in the first buffer flush, but we have made additions to prevent such an event.

    SOLUTION:
    To anyone who has been following this looking for a solution, or anyone who finds this in the future, this is caused entirely by concurrent traffic to your FMS server.
    In our case, we increased our SERVER.FLVCACHE_MAXSIZE and have watched our 13 byte files go from 5% to 0%. This is properly documented in the depths of the FMS literature: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flashmediaserver/3.0/docs/help.html?content=03_configtasks_12.ht ml
    When the cache is full, the server removes unused segments, starting with the least recently used. After removing all unused segments, if there still isn't enough room for a new segment, the server notifies the client that the stream is not available and makes an entry in the core log file.
    Because the cache is utilized for publishing, the effect is FMS outputting only the flv header to the file system, and ignoring all incoming stream data. This is not presented well, if at all, client side. This is something you should be watching your core.##.log files lest you experience unfortunate data loss.

  • More 0 byte files on OES11

    I've just migrated a 2.25 TB file volume from NW6.5SP8 to OES11SP1. Roughly 1.8 million files total and on the source there are 1,122 0 byte files (empty log files and other placeholders) and on the destination there are 10,755 0 byte files. No quotas on either volume. I know there were patches for this issue on OES2 but this is OES11. Anyone else seeing this on OES11?

    Can't say as I have, although the only time I've ever seen it was with a quota (directory or volume). Can't remember what happens if the file was in use at the time either (if it just skips it or creates zero-byte files)
    I've seen zero-byte files generated by people's auto-archive in GroupWise when they ran out of space, which of course, those would be copied over as well.
    Doesn't mean there isn't a problem, just that I've only ever seen it due to space/quota issues.

  • UTL_FILE and 724,000 byte file

    If I'm trying to read in a 724,000 byte file with '~' delimiters with UTL_FILE, does that mean that I need to read it in as a CLOB? While I know that an external table definition is an option, what I really need to do is just read in the first 200 characters, so the external table seems like overkill.
    I was trying to push UTL_FILE in the direction of using GET_LINE( ) to read in 200 bytes, kind of like getting it to work like a SUBSTR, but on a file's contents. Could someone give me some pointers if it's possible?

  • When I open an html file saved in UTF-8 format the 3-byte file header (usually hex EF BB BF) is shown as text at top-left. How can I avoid this - all other browsers interpret the header correctly and don't show it.

    I write VB apps that create web pages for international sports scoring systems, and these must be able to show Latin, Cyrillic, eastern names etc. that require 2-bytes for some characters in the text. This means saving in UTF-8 to avoid 8-bit ASCII files being created. UTF-8 files typically have a 3-byte header = hex EB BB BF, and with all browsers except Firefox this header is interpreted and not shown. Firefox however always displays these characters as at the top-left screen position. What do I have to do the make Firefox recognize UTF-8 files, or do to my UTF-8 files to work properly with Firefox?
    See http://www.iacusn.org/USN2010/results/ for a typical recent example.

    You see that UTF-8 BOM (Byte Order Mark) because of the content type specification in the page code.
    <pre><nowiki>content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"</nowiki></pre>
    If you remove that or change it to utf-8 then Firefox won't show that BOM as text. There is however no need to insert that BOM at the start of the file. You can also configure the server to send the file (all files) as utf-8.

  • Double byte file name in KM NW04

    Prior to NetWeaver 04 using the HTML editor, we could name a file in a double byte language (Simplified/Traditional Chinese) by entering the English name in the "ID" field and then entering the double byte name in the "Name" field using "File/Details". While this was not elegant, it worked and would allow users to see the double byte name. Now in NetWeaver 04 we receive the error message "! name is not a canonical name" . Is there a way to name files in double byte using HTML or TEXT editors so our users can see the double byte name?

    Hi Boris,
    I'm working with Rick on the issue.
    I've tried the following (per OSS Note 507624), but we still get the "name is not canonical name" error.
    Added the following parameters via configtool to server instances:
    -Dhtmlb.useUTF8=X
    -Dfile.encoding=UTF8
    Added the following parameters via configtool to server instances:
    -Dhtmlb.useUTF8=X
    -Dfile.encoding=ISO-8859-1
    Set the following on <sid>adm account before starting portal (in combination with parameter settings above):
    setenv LC_ALL en_US.UTF-8
         locale
         LANG=en_US.UTF-8
         LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
         LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"
         LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8"
         LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"
         LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8"
         LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
         LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
    Unfortunately, these have not corrected the issue.
    Have I misinterpreted the recommendations in the Note or is there something else I needed to do?
    Thanks,

  • Zero bytes files

    Hello.
    I'm facing this problem for a few times now and it is very frustrating that I keep loosing all my work.
    I use MS Office 2011 (latest install 14.0.1) in my iMac OS X version 10.9.4.
    I store my documents in my iPod formatted with MS-Dos Fat32 so I can use it both in Windows and Mac.
    A few times now, I came upon excel and word files with Zero bytes losing a bunch of working hours.
    The first time it happen after I saved and close an excel document. A couple of day after when I tried to open the document, I realized it was empty. I tied a couple of Office rescue softwares but nothing worked because the file was simply empty!
    A second time this happen with a word document. Exactly the same way.
    My guess is that has something to do with the file system in the iPod Fat32 (where all my documents are stored) but what is very annoying is the fact that I didn't get any error or so. I saved the documents correctly and closed the programs just to realize that my files are empty.
    This problem probably happens with other files as well but I only notice the office documents as I put a lot of working hours on this.
    I can't find a solution so far and it's very time consuming to once and a while redo all my work.
    Does anyone experience similar problems?
    Urgent solution to solve and/or prevent this problem is needed.
    Thanks

    I believe the latest version of Office 2011 for Mac is 14.4.4.  It is definitely not 14.0.1.
    Update Office 2011.  Open an Office app (e.g., Word) and do Help > Check for Updates from the menu.
