0404 & onboard sound for Skype?

I have an 0404 board & patchmix that I use successfully with Ableton, but use Skype frequently and would like to use the onboard audio for simply plugging in a headset.
Sounds simple, and I have achieved it for a short while, but I cannot seem to achieve it regularly and there are clearly some things going on behind the scenes that I do not understand.
I have done the obvious stuff like set sounds/audio/sound recording to the onboard c-media wave device.
Is there a patch mix setting I need to use? Or is it all just incompatible?
System: XP SP2, Asrock 4i65G motherboard, c-media wave

Hello samfrancis28, welcome to the HP Forums.
It appears that you're having an issue with sounds and skype. I will try to assist you with this.
A few questions to start for you:
What are the model and product numbers for your notebook?
What is the currently install operating system?
To address the issue, I would suggest these documents:
No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8)
Troubleshooting Skype Performance Problems
Using Skype to Make Voice and Video Internet Calls (Windows 8)
Start with that and let me know how this goes for you.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
I worked on behalf of HP.

so as long as the audigy i get isnt an LS, im good?
I'd say so.  The onboard sound isn't bad, but you get a more powerful DSP with much cooler driver mods(should you want something like that)

  • MS6178 Onboard Sound Drivers for Win98?

    Hi,
I recently had to install Windows 98 (1st edition) on my computer and am having difficulties locating the Drivers for the Onboard Sound for this particular version of Windows and my MS 6178 Mainboard.  I have managed to find them for Windows 98SE and attempted to install those ones, but it keeps on telling me that my OS is the wrong version.  I have searched this website, but just cannot find any for Win 98, and not for Win98SE.  Can anyone here help?  Thanks!

    Try http://www.Driversguide.com
Use the basic search enter Soundmax and set the operating system to Win98.
You should find what you're after.
    Try http://members.driverguide.com/index.php?action=dosearch&qm0=soundmax&qa7=1399&dp=2&sm=b&jmd=and&fzz=d
you have to register firts, but it costs noothing (and there's no junk email)

Thanks a lot for help me!!!!

I have a nearly identical problem with my Ipad 3. Mine is the left channel. I've yet to find help, but have found a number of other posts on this and other forums discussing the issue. People have tried restore, reset etc. Also, cleaning the ports with compressed air or cotton swabs. It appears to be a software issue, but no one is sure.
Along with the original poster, I'd appreciate any help.
As far as the 'level 6' poster, if you're going to be rude, please don't bother. Hope it was just a bad day.

  • When using Skype my IPad sounds like ocean. This is not a problem when I am on FaceTime or using other apps with sound.  Recently updated to newest IOS 7. First there was no sound for Kype and found that had to turn microphone sound on.

When using Skype my IPad 2 now sounds like the ocean and I can barely here my contact.  This happened recently after IOS7 update. I did turn the microphone on for Skype as it was required after update.  Now my sound is terrible but only a problem when using Skype video call.  It is okay for FaceTime.

Thank you!  Resetting resolved the issue with terrible sound when trying to use skype.  Sounds much better!
I am not sure what all changed when reset was applied to settings --- assume it defaults back to basic settings.  I have no idea what I had customized, so will slowly figure out.  I have noticed several things.  So far I had to add back my wallpaper and reenter password to get back on my wi-fi.
At least SKYPE is now audible.

  • Which is better for framerate -- onboard sound or SBLive 5.1?

    Heya,
I have an SBLive 5.1 and I was just going to pitch it when I assembled my new rig with the K8T Neo.  But I read a review on HardOCP (here) and it said the onboard sound is incredibly CPU intensive and Q3 took a 21% (!) framerate hit with the onboard sound activated.
They go on to advise that one should use a PCI-based sound solution, but I'm sure they mean one of the newer SB Audigy-based cards and not my (old) SB Live...
So my question is this -- is the SB Live going to be better for gaming performance (framerate) than the K8T Neo's onboard sound?  I hate to have two sound systems on my PC (redundancies always seem to cause problems) but a 20% hit on gaming is unacceptable when I'm coughing up this cash for a supposedly "high end" solution.
    Thanks!
    Z

While it is true that onboard sound can have a major impact on game performance (~20%), what you may not realize is that adding a PCI based solution will not eliminate the entire performance hit.  In other words, even the most modern PCI based sound cards (Audigy 2, for example) do not completely eliminate the load which audio puts on a system.  To see an example of this, Tomshardware conducted a benchmark almost a year ago which compared the framerates of several sound solutions.
Note: the Realtek chip (ALC650 AC'97 Audio CODEC) used in the THG benchmark is an older version of the same integrated audio chip on the K8T Neo (ALC655 AC'97 Rev 2.3 Audio CODEC).  There may be a modest improvement in performance with the newer CODEC.
Now, concerning your soundcard: although your SB 5.1 Live! card may put more load on your system than a new Audigy 2 or Hercules card, it should certainly improve performance when compared to the on-board audio solution.  Sound quality should also improve (although if you have 6-channel speakers, you could only run 5 channels of audio).
The SB Live! series produced beastly little sound cards.  If you want to further improve sound quality (or need more audio channels), consider an inexpensive (~$40) Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.  Or, if you want to improve your gaming performance further, you could shell out ~$70-$100 and get a top-of-the-line OEM sound card.
In general, on-board audio blows.  You get what you pay for.

  • When Im in a skype call it disables my sound for c...

I am using windows 7 and newest Skype version:
Ok my problem used to be whenever i would open another program it would disable my sound for a couple of seconds till the program fully loaded and my sounds would come back on but my game sounds would be off if i opened a game but now it is doing it when I close a game and it is very annoying since i usually have to close other programs and re open them to get sounds working again.
When it happens i see my sound get the red x in my task bar by the clock.  All my sound devices are disabled besides my headpohnes, i do not use my speakers or anything else besides my headphones.
I have the setting set to do nothing for the  When windows detects communication activity:
My skype audio settings are also set to my Headset as it is the only thing it allows me to select in the dop down tab and ringing is set to use selected speaker, also when it happens if i go into my skype audio settings the drop down tabs r empty and then goes back to headset after awhile.

k it is still does it if im in a call and i open a game like binding of isaac all my sounds get disabled but the skype call sound comes back and so does my itunes but the binding of isaac sounds gets muted.

  • BIOS settings for onboard sound on MS-6341

Can anyone tell me how I should set the following parameters in the BIOS on the MS-6341 revision 1.1 motherboard if I want to use the onboard sound features of this board (USING WINDOWS 2000 PRO OPERATING SYSTEM):
AC97 AUDIO - AUTO OR DISABLED
ONBOARD LEGACY AUDIO - ENABLED OR DISABLED
SOUND BLASTER - ENABLED OR DISABLED
         SB IRQ SELECT - IRQ5, IRQ7, IRQ9, IRQ10
         SB DMA SELECT - DMA1, DMA0, DMA2, DMA3
         MPU-401 - ENABLED OR DISABLED
GAME PORT - ENABLED OR DISABLED
The reason I am asking this is because when I set these parameters to what I think they should be to use the onboard sound, I wind up with an unknown device shown in the sound section of device manager and as soon as I attempt to do something with this device (either disable or uninstall), my Plextor CD-RW drive starts loosing it's firmware & then I have to reflash firmware, but they are lost again when the system is cold booted, (works fine up to this point including entire installation of the operating system).  Does anyone know what this unknown device that is showing up in the sound section is and what I should do about it - should I just leave, disable, uninstall, or try to install the drivers for it and if so where do I find the drivers ?  Is it possible that this unknown device has something to do with the audio cable that runs from the CD-RW drive to the motherboard CD-Audio socket ?
The following is how I have the above listed BIOS parameters set:
          AC97 AUDIO - AUTO
          ONBOARD LEGACY AUDIO - ENABLED
          SOUND BLASTER - ENABLED
          SB IRQ SELECT - IRQ5
          SB DMA SELECT - DMA1
          MPU-401 - DISABLED
          GAME PORT - DISABLED
          Thanks.

    HI..
Most of the time, the default settigs work without any problem.. Watch Out.. I have had some instances where the SOUND BLASTER = ENABLED had some problems on installing Win2K and XP on an older computer (K7TPro2).. This is only there for OLD Dos games and should not cause any problems when set to DISABLED..
    Hope this helps

  • Unable to make microphone to work on NVIDIA MCP55 onboard sound card

    Hello.
Some time ago, I bought a nice HP xw9400 Workstation (with Dual Core AMD Opteron  2216) from Germany. Despite it's starting to become old by today's standards for some stuff like gaming, it's still quite okay to use and the SAS HDD makes it boot fastly. And it has one of the best cases, you can plug PCI/PCIe/PCI-X cards very easily and it's very nice to change or add HDDs. Maybe I'll upgrade the CPUs (I can upgrade the bios and it seems it can support better CPUs) if I find them on eBay or other place.
I have less problems with Arch than the rest of distributions, but I still have weird issues. Despite my computer hardware is somewhat old, I still experience weird problems everywhere (it seems I have some kind of weird "luck").
I have problems using my microphone under Arch with "NVIDIA Corporation MCP55 High Definition Audio (rev a2)" onboard sound card , here is the relevant info.

Sorry, that was wrong, I meant
    arecord -l
Have you tried making a virtual loopback device like above and using
    arecord -vv -fdat out.wav
You should see the #### fluctuate as you speak into the mic. If not, then unmute and turn up your mic in alsamixer. That loopback device will allow you to capture your sound card and hear it at the same time. Another way to do it is to use a jumper from line out to line in on your sound device. You won't be able to hear it while you record though.
If your sound device works, then you can capture what's going through it. You'll need to determine which vitual device your mic is.
    Example
    arecord -l

  • K7N2 Delta Onboard Sound Disable Question

I have a K7N2 Delta motherboard with a MSI FX5600 256MB DDR video card.  I am currently using the onboard audio.  Ever since I first built this computer I have been having nearly every game I play on it lock up and freeze.  I am thinking that it is a sound issue that is causing this problem, so I want to install a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live.  I have several questions that I hope someone can answer as I have exhausted all avenues and still don't have any answers.  Here are my questions:
       1.  How do I disable the onboard sound?  ie  Which jumper is it and what are the
            jumper settings?
       2.  Which PCI slot is recommended for installing the sound card so that I won't
            any IRQ conflicts?
       3.  Is this actually an audio problem or is there something else wrong with this
            motherboard or video card?
This is becoming very frustrating because when the computer locks up all I can do is just reset without shutting down.  I'm becoming more and more worried that if this continues unabated I'm going to crash the hard drive and have to replace it only to have the problem persist.  I hope someone can give me specific answers to my questions.  Thank you in advance for your help.

First. Is it K7N2 Delta-L or Delta-ILSR (the one with an actual Soundstorm chip on it)? If you have the actual Soundstorm chip, use it! It will sound much better than an SBLive. Assuming you have the normal K7N2 Delta-L like I have:
    1. To disable the onboard sound, first uninstall the drivers for it, then you need to go into the BIOS by holding the Delete key while you boot up. Then find the section "Integrated Peripherals" and in that section "Onboard Devices". Press Enter and find AC97 Audio and disable it. There are no jumpers.
    2. PCI slots 1, 2 and 3 are usually not shared with other stuff like you AGP or USB ports. PCI Slot 3 is the ideal choice. 1 is usually covered by your video card fan anyway. For the SBLive, on Windows XP/2000, get the newest drivers from Creative Labs. The file is named "LiveDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe" and it's file size is 23.3 MB (24,451,404 bytes). They have fixed the "nforce2 + gameport incompatibility".
    3. The problem may be audio related...or not. Which drivers are/were you using for your onboard audio? nvidia or Realtek? Actual Soundstorm chip or crappy software codec? It could also be video card related. Fastwrites? 8x or 4x AGP?

  • I'm at a loss with the onboard sound

I can't get my 6 5.1 speakers to work on mt KT4 Ultra board, so I'm considering putting my Sound Blaster back in and disabling the onboard sound. What kind of a performance hit will I take?
I can get the fronts to work, or the rears to work but not all six. I have tried everything I can think of.
    Thanks,
    Al

    Hi,
Have you set up the C-Media drivers for 5.1/6.1 sound? The settings for each speaker configuration can be found if you double-click the c-media icon next to the clock and select the settings button. Note how the plug configuration changes if you change the type of speakers.
I found that the 6.1 configuration with the headphone(?) option ticked makes all my 5.1 speakers work ok. I'm not saying I haven't got any sound problems but at least they all work.
I've also found that individual apps also need to be setup for the better speakers as well. PowerDVD needs to have the setting specifically set or the sounds all over the place.
    Hope this helps

Elitist is not the right word... But your expected to do you part too.
I honestly think the "The Arch Way" wiki lays it out pretty damn well.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/The_Arch_Way
Read that, if it sounds good you will likely enjoy arch. If it sounds bad, yeah arch may be bad for you.
Truth is the wiki is fantastic, and dedicated people have spent an amazing amount of time putting it together... So for ALMOST EVERYTHING there is detailed step by step information that basically will fix your problem. You just need to read it, understand it and possibly even research on your own the parts you don't understand.
When people just come to the forum and ask to be told directly instead, yeah we may seem elitist expecting they know enough to figure it out on their own... But that is only because the community already wrote out a really really detailed explanation for them, but they just wanted someone else to do the work/troubleshooting for them. Its a bit weird to ask stranger to care more about your problems then you do
But, detailed and specific questions are met with wonderful and fantastic help. This is the most stable and functional distro/operating system I have ever run (in part because after "building" it its pretty easy to fix.)
This ISN'T a newbie distro in that its not for people who just want a working computer for minimal effort... That doesn't mean its hard mean or bad, but it does mean its targeted towards serious users who want to be able to build and fix their own system. A certain standard is expected (and I really like that), its not hard to meet it.... But if you don't want anything expected of you you may not want arch. Reading a paying attention can make it more or less an easy and fruitful experience for even novice users however.

  • Will not boot after disabling onboard sound

I am trying to install an SB Audigy2 ZS sound card but each time I disable the onboard sound card, I cannot boot my system. It will not boot to CD either.  I have tried disabling with SB Audigy2 ZS card installed and without the card installed. I am using the third PCI slot since the video card uses the first slot's space.
I tried it without 2 of my hard drives in case I was running low on power, but still will not boot.
    Any ideas?

i have the newer mobo and also have audigy zs it install just right for me but i have it in pci slot 4 (the last one on my mobo) your manual of your mobo will tell you which pci share the same irq ..but when i had your version of mobo i still had it in slot 4 so try pci 4 or 5 to see if that resolves your problem it souds like your video card and sound card are tying to share the same irq which is a big no no
