0404 USB / CoreAudio Drivers - Latency is very high?

Hello,
I hooked up an 0404 USB to my MacBook Pro. After completing the install, I found that the latency for the 0404 USB using CoreAudio was slightly higher than the latency of the Macbook's integrated sound using CoreAudio. DAW is Ableton Live. 'CoreAudio' was the only device driver option available in Live's Preferences window for the 0404 USB.
As the Emu 0404 USB is a Pro Audio interface designed for recording, I was expecting lower latency than built-in, so I'm wondering if I did something wrong / don't understand. This is my first Mac so I'm in unknown territory in comparison to my extensive background with PC's.
Is this normal? Am I using the correct drivers? Is there an ASIO driver for Mac?
If it's possible for someone from Emu to get back to me on this ASAP, I would really appreciate it, as I'm preparing for an extended period of travel and need to get an interface with low-latency dialed in on my laptop within the next week.
Thanks,
Tom

  • Latency is very high when SELECT statements are running for LONG

We are a simple DOWN STREAM streams replication environment ( Archive log is shipped from source , CAPTURE & APPLY are running on destination DB).
Whenever there is a long running SELECT statement on TARGET the latency become very high.
    SGA_MAX_SIZE = 8GB
    STREAMS_POOL_SIZE=2GB
    APPLY parallelism = 4
    How can resolve this issue?

Is the log file shipped but not acknowledge? -- NO
Is the log file not shipped? -- It is shipped
Is the log file acknowledged by not applied? -- Yes...But Apply process was not stopped. it may be slow or waiting for something?
It is 10g Environment. I will run AWR.. But what should i look for in AWR?

  • 0404 USB and Windows 7

Hi, I'm having the same problem as many others with the EMU 0404 USB, with the sound becoming very distorted (like its being played at a very low bit rate) after a few minutes of use in Windows 7. I have now had to disable the card and use the motherboard sound instead. This $200 box is completely unusable.
If I reset the sample rate in the Audio Control Panel to something else and then back again, it fixes the problem for a couple of minutes, but the horrible distortion always comes back.
I'd like to know if this problem is being worked on or not, otherwise I am going to return this thing and get something else.

You didn't mention in which type PC/laptop are you using your audio interface (couple years old ... brand new).
BTW, I had this type issue with my old P4/2.66GHz PC after installing W7, because of, I had that new visual feature turned on. By turning it off and setting the system for performance helped a bit but, as the GPU wasn't very good at all (scored 1.0 in W7 test), issue rised it's head when doin' other tasks while playback.
Now with then new PC this isn't an issue anymore.
0404 USB is also very sensible for high priority processes running in background and also it doesn't like WiFi at all.
You could check your system capability for to stream audio/video. There's an utility called DPC Latency Checker which may be helpful in this task.

  • Very High DPC Latency

I've been searching for months, i haven't found a solution. I have a dell 14r, and i've got very high dpc latency, i've disabled Intel speed step, i don't know if it was the cause, but helped a little, but a still have some high DPC.
    here's the DPC  Conclusion
    CONCLUSION
Your system seems to have difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup.
    Check for BIOS updates.

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the
signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.
Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   1572,913052

     REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted
    and blocked from execution.
NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

  • Very high latency on my MBP 3,1 (mid 2007) with airport extreme card 0x168C

    Hi
I wanted to let you know that i filled a bug report concerning a problem involving a MacBookPro3,1 and my airport extreme card (AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x87) Firmware Version 1.4.16.2)
If you've got any feedback, please feel free to share it with me.
    Here's the bug report:
    Hello
I'm experiencing very high latency on my MBP when connected using Wi-Fi in my living room and I believe this is a software bug.
This is the trace of my ping test to my router (5m from me):
    macbookpro:~ laurent$ ping 192.168.0.254

(PC: Win XP SP3 with Linksys Wi-Fi card)
Obviously, my Mac has very high latency where my PC works as expected.
I tried resetting the PRAM, but i didn't affect my results.
I tried updating Airport with the latest AirPort Client Update (http://support.apple.com/downloads/AirPortClient_Update_for_MacBook_and_MacBookPro), but my hardware wasn't eligible for that update (Mid 2007 MacBookPro).
I believe this isn't a hardware bug because i get acceptable ping results when next to my router or in other rooms of my flat.
Can you help me with that bug ?
    Regards,
    Laurent

5DPC Latency very high in Games sound and game freezes?hello, i am new her. I am german, sry for my Bad englisch. i do my best that you unterstand me...
my problem is very well known in the internet, but i did not find a solution until now...
    My Computer:
    E6300 @ 3 ghz
Mainboard: Abit Fatalty FP-IN9 with nForce650i-SLI Chipset
    4 Gig DDR2 Ram
    Win 7 64bit
Soundblaster is a X-fi Titanium PCIe
when i am in windows, look a film on youtube or on my harddisk the DPC Latency is always " green " and i have no freezes in sound or computer
But when i start a Computergame like Starcraft the freezes come, and also the DPC Latency goes red.
    http://www.picfront.org/d/7Ngg
I thought the problem is the old Daniel_K 2.0 support pack driver which i installed 6 month ago. I formated my computer todey.
Installed Windows, installed Ati display driver, than installed orginal Creative driver : 2.7.0008 (26. Juli 200). And then i started Starcraft 2 direct but i did not help. Because of that i think i must be a hardware problem...

  • Beta MAC drivers for 0202 USB & 0404 USB

    Hi all,
Just a quick message to let you know that there are Beta MAC drivers for the 0202 USB & the 0404 USB available. Please go to www.emu.com and on the home page there will be an image and when you click on it you will be directed to another URL where you can download them.
    ATB,
    - Jen -

There seems to be a web site here http://www.eduscho.at/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/at/-/EUR/TdAtBrowseCat alog-Start?CategoryName=phase_1&Entry=nlpopup
I am not sure, as it seems to be in German, to follow any links to other items that are not groceries or Coffee.
The same with this link http://www.germandeli.com/eduschocoffee.html
I was hoping it would list a name like this bit does
    Hub in Apple Pro Keyboard:
    Version: 1.22
    Bus Power (mA): 500
    Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
    Manufacturer: Mitsumi Electric
    Product ID: 0x1002
Vendor ID: 0x05ac (Apple Computer, Inc.)
Yours does not seem to list the name which means we can not use that method for finding out what make it actually is.
There was a post in this thread from EZ Jim about using a macam driver.
These I understand are more camera Specific than other drivers which is why we needed a name.
The one from IOXperts may be of more help

  • Very high latency in fetching static files

Problem : Really high latency in fetching static files upon first request.
Environment : Weblogic V8.1 App Server and Web Server running using jdk1.4.2_13
    Mem Setting: -Xmx2048M -XX:MaxPermSize=1024M
Situaton: Restart the weblogic server, fetch a static file using " wget hostname:port/script.js". Comes back in around 100 ms for us. Then from browser we request "http://hostname:portname/Logon.do". Then again we do " wget hostname:port/script.js" and now it comes back in 400 ms. The above times are in our TEST environment. In PROD it is really worse 1300ms for one file !!!
    Tests:
Wrote a servlet to handle all static file (CSS,js,gif, jpeg etc) and all requests would go through this servlet. Did not solve the problem, latency is still high.
Wrote a test servlet to load about 1000 classes explicitly (Class.forName) and then fetched the static file with out accessing Logon.do from browser. Latency was high after loading classes. This lead to conclusion that it is number of classes we are loading which is causing the problem.
Ran application under JProfiler, Took a heap dump right after starting server. About 1300 classes loaded. Took a heap dump after fetching Logon.do. About 2100 classes loaded.
    Question :
    1) Isn't 1300 too high for just the server to start? (there are some classes loaded because of our references in ejb's)
    2) We use prototype factory to instantiate classes. All the interface and implementation definitions are specified in config file and it seems to load all the classes. May be we can change this. But what confuses me is that the response time was okay when we had 1300 classes loaded how come it became so bad when there were 2100 classes ?
If any body is using these same set of technologies, what is the average number of classes loaded on initial start up?
I am running out of options to test?

There's no way from what you posted that you could draw a conclusion that you are infected.
I totally missed that tracert, but from a ping response time, it looks healthy.
The packet loss, could easily cause your problem.
Does it consistently loose packets there ? Cause I've pinged it from here and got no loss.
Also remember that in this case, ping is also the time it takes the blizzard servers to response to your network message, so it could be local to blizzard, and ping might not detect that.
Have you tried a netstat -p tcp -b command too see whats active on your PC ? That could point you towards something local.

  • Emu 0404 USB - No sound thru headphones at the front - and very low volume

I can't get sound thru the headphones at the front of my Emu 0404 USB to monitor playback and recording. At the back, however, I can connect my headphones and also obtain sound but at a low level.
In sound settings the volume option is greyed, so no help there. I am using the Emu Asio ....otherwise the card seems good quality.

Do you mean you can't control volume in your software or system master volume controller at all? This normally means that you have not selected the system audio play/recording devices correctly or you have set output mode to bit-matched.
    Also,
    - you have a switch for Direct monitoring on top of the 0404 box
    - w/ Some software, you can't enable direct monitoring in siftware settings

  • Very High Ping/Latency

    Good Evening,
For 4-5 weeks, I have been getting very high pings (>1500ms) this occurs randomly throughout the day and night.
I have reported a fault and have been told this is normal for peak times.... however they will request a switch over to Fast Path from Interleave.
Now I'm no Rocket scientist but >1500ms ping in an area with only 200 houses on my exchange IS NOT normal, nor is it even remotely acceptable that i'm told it is!!
Having browsed the web with this IP (my 1st hop) "217.47.106.122", I find many others with EXACTLY the same issue.
Please can someone confirm there is an issue with the above address..
My Area Code is 01851 (Isle of Lewis).
I am aware there is ongoing work to install infinity on Lewis this summer, yet I haven't been informed of any dissruptions.
If I was a betting man I'd say many user's have been rerouted and now as a result is being overloaded.. an oversight no doubt.
Please either confirm this is or at the very least "may" be the case..
    Regards

  • How to optimize your PC for the 0404 USB and 0202 USB

This is a guide on optimizing your system for the 0404 USB and 0202 USB.
Make sure the 0404 USB is using a USB HOST that is on an IRQ alone. This means no other device in the PC can be sharing its IRQ.
If you are running a hyper-threaded CPU, by turning hyperthreading off from the bios. You can set the latency at 20ms or lower and you will usually not have any latency issues.
Change Processor Scheduling to 'Background Services' - Navigate to the Advanced page of the System applet. Click on the Performance Settings button, select its Advanced tab and click on 'Background Services' for Processor Scheduling.
Switch Off Power Schemes - In the Power Options applet, choose the 'Always On' power scheme. Change the settings for monitor and hard disk turn off and System standby to 'Never', so that your PC doesn't unexpectedly conk out during song playback
Disable System Sounds - Select the 'No Sounds' scheme on the Sounds tab of the Sounds and Audio Devices applet.
Make sure legacy USB support is disabled in your BIOS.

    Hi everybody.
This message to share my experience of the 0404 USB under Windows 7.
I previously operated this sound adapter under Windows XP and it was working fine with my pipe organ simulator (Hauptwerk).
When I switched to W7 on a Dell Vostro (professionnal series), sound was muting after exactly one minute . The same with a video on Yutube.....
I did all the adjustments suggested here and there on the web (sampling rate, drivers) , I tried to operate at moonlight, I shot a chicken, etc ...
After many manipulations, I noticed that, if I was doing "something", for instance moving the sound level up and down, the sound was going on ....
The solution was in part at the beginning of the topic "how to optimize your PC for th 0404, etc ....".
    The keyword is "interrruption".
As a matter of fact, the Dell laptop is strongly closed. The BIOS allows no adjustment of nothing.... No way to control interruptions allocation.
BUT!!! I noticed that the two USB 2.0 ports are located very far away from each other. I supposed there would be TWO controlling chips. And I tried the second one. AND IT WORKED!
So the E-MU guy is right, the device must get a free interruption line to operate ....!

  • Help! Lost my installation CD for my 0404 USB. Urgent! Help needed please!

    Hi all,
Please could someone send me or provide a link to the installation drivers for the 0404 USB for Windows XP? I am really desparate and have looked EVERYWHERE I can think of on the internet with no luck.
    History:
I reorganised the cabling around my PC, and in doing so, somehow my USB hub seems to have stopped working. When I plugged my 0404 directly into a USB hub on the PC it didn't recognise it. So I thought I'd uninstall and reinstall the software. Then I realised I had lost my installation CD, and then found that E-MU / Creative websites don't have the original installation drivers that come on the CD on their website. This has completely warped my feelings about this company in one fell swoop. Having been very happy for prob 2 years with the E-MU 0404 to find that they have seemingly intentionally left off these drivers from their site and therefore wasted probably 2 hours of my time in the last 24 hours is maddeningly frustrating.
Thanks in advance for your assistance,
    David

I have never used driver installation found in original E-MU 0404 CD but only the installation you can download from E-MU support pages (remember allow firmware upgrade as well).jutapa

  • EMU USB 0404 USB - Audio Problems

    Hello forum!
I recently bought an 0404 USB and I am having problems with the audio quality.
Prob 1 - When I plug a guitar into input A, the sound switches between clean and a distorted/clipping/phased kind of sound, and I also get some clicks. I have tried adjusting the ground switch position and the buffer size for the input, but with no success. The sound switches from clean to "dirty" (if that is the correct term) and back at random and it is almost impossible to get a clean sound to record with the equipment. Can anyone help me solve this?
Prob 2 - when I do get a clean signal - the playback is of an inferior quality and there are audible clicks (nothing to do with the metronome) more like a static noise.
Prob 3 - I can't adjust the sample rate in the EMU control software - it only lets me select 41khz. I have only used it with Cubase so far which I believe supports a max sample rate of 41kHZ- but I don't know if it will be the same with Sonar. Note interface is definitely running in USB 2.0 mode as it states this in the EMU software controller.
Prob 4 - since installing the software for EMU 0404 my computer has only been starting in safe mode (I have to adjust the display settings etc) and it automatically restarts when I shut the computer down.... Im running the computer in XP SP2.
Any help you can offer is appreciated. Happy recording guys
PS I have already sent these questions to the EMU product support guys, but they are taking a while to get back to me.
    Bookman1

When you use ASIO driver mode, for samplerate settings, E-MU follows settings done in software ... as like in Cubase LE (you can test this by leaving the E-MU control panel open while changing the samplerate setting in Cubase).
You set the samplerate through Cubase Project Setup:
    http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/5609/clesreb2.jpg
Just use native ASIO drivers in ASIO capable software (there are Sonar LE, Cubase LE and Live 4 Lite bundled w/ the card) with this device. Remember also set the ASIO latency properly (one instrument w/o plug-ins in path ... you should be able to go as low as 2ms).
If you like just to play guitar through E-MU interface then, just use ASIO capable software like VSTHost for input/output (you'll need to load least one VST plug-in into VSTHost to get audio through ... maybe Voxengo SPAN or Sonalksis FreeG is the one w/o effect in audio).
    http://www.voxengo.com/product/SPAN/
    http://www.sonalksis.com/index.php?section_id=99
    http://www.hermannseib.com/english/default.htm
If this area of music is new to you then, more plug-ins can be found through KVR.

  • 0404 USB Random Noises Coming From Left Input

    Hi,
I've had my 0404 for a year. Everything's been fine until recently. Now the left input jack always has signal coming in even when nothing is plugged in. It makes the clipping indicator is constantly flashing red. And enabling direct monitoring reveals a very harsh noise.
I'm running on Mac OSX 10.5. But i've tried on a different Windows computer and I've tried with different USB cables with no success. I've also tried with different software including the bundled software. I'm running the very latest drivers and firmware downloaded from Emu's website.
    Any solutions?

    Boxed,
The 0404 USB can work stand alone as a Pre Amp, as well as with a PC or MAC.
Do you have this issue if it isn't connected to the PC?
If you do you may want to contact technical support about getting an RMA.

  • I need help with the CoreAudio Drivers!!!

    Hi there!
My Digi CoreAudio drivers have been uninstalled and reinstalled and they refuse to recognize my new device.  They keep insisting that the Digi 002 is connected and will not allow me in the HW setup.  Can someone help me understand what is going on?  It's very frustrating.  The manufacturer of the new device (Audiobox USB by PreSonus) told me I need to work with Apple as this appears to be a driver issue.
    Thanks,
    -j.

    mrhanson2004 wrote:
Any idea how to do that?
    Thanks!
    -j.
Not Really..  It's doubtful you would've gone into the system that far.
Are you plugging the Audiobox directly into a USB port? No USB hubs.
Unplug the Audiobox, Shut the machine down, restart... let it settle, plug the Audiobox directly into a USB port.
If you have removed something that's required you may have to reinstall the OS or reinstall the latest OS update. If you do, unplug the Audiobox first.
