06 IMovie question on resizing a clip

How do I resize a video clip from 600 to uner 100m? It's not even a minute long. I have Imovie, streemclip and quicktime softward. thanks

.. in case, you're speaking of the exported files size of an iM project, instead of using the few presets, choose Export/Quicktime/Expert settings .. and use any of the many options.. as 'resizing'/resolution to 320x240, diff. framerate, e.g. 15fps, different codec, e.g. h264, mp4, divx (if installed) ..

  • Noob Question 17: Resizing Multiple Clips?

    Hi,
I looked at another discussion on -adding- dust and scratches to create a 'film' look. I downloaded a series of TGA files from the Stephen Gotz site. Great. But... The default length of each clip in the timeline is way too long. Is there a way to select all clips on a track and re-size them so that they are all still butted up against one another? IOW: I can re-size them en masse, but when I do that I end up with lots of space between them which I do NOT want.
    TIA,
    ---JC

The main way, has been outlined, well actually two ways. Those work before Import.
To alter the Duration of the Clips in the Timeline (already Imported), press the Ctrl key, and click-drag the Tail of each to suit. Keep the Info Panel open, to see the new Duration. The Ctrl key will 'drag" your other Clips along with the change.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • CS4/Win: markers are not moved after resizing a clip in timeline

    Hello,
when I am resizing a clip in the timeline my markers after this clips in the same timeline are not moved, too.
    Bug or feature?
If it is a bug: stilil

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

    Ok, thanks
But there is a question left: bug or feature? I can't see an advantage of this behavior ... and no solution...
The same behavior in CS5, too?
    Neither, is as designed.
    CS5 is excactly the same.

How can I stop iMovie from making thumbnails of clips from past projects when first opening the program to digitize new clips for a new project. It takes forever for it and is very annoying. I have looked in the preferences and couldn't figure out what would disable this problem.

You do not need to move your cursor much when pressing the mouse button to cause the tab to tear-off/tear-away into a new tab. No "sensitivity" setting that I am aware of. The tab in the new window can be dragged back to the original window.
To disable the feature, install this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/

Unfortunately, I did not have any success with this.

    only opened in  http://www.apple.com/
    - it kept deleting /downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html .
However, I googled and found http://tips4mac.blogspot.co.uk/2007/08/rotating-clip-in-imovie-06.html this really helpful..and it worked !

In imovie can you trim multiple clips at a time?  Also, can you randomly sort the photos?

Can I do all at once or 1 at a time? It seems to only allow 1 at a time.
No. But you can do one, copy its settings, then seclect the rest and "Paste Audio Settings" to all of them all at once in a project.

Best would be cutting a matte in Photoshop, or as Mr. Grenadier suggests, using Motion or After Effects - but here is a way to do it staying within FCP - see if this helps:

  • How do you convert .AVI files for using in iMovie without losing the original clip time and date

Hi everyone! does anyone know how to convert .AVI files for using in iMovie without losing the original clip time and date? Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip and Evon all replace the original timecode with the date of modification. This is very frustrating when you are trying to keep the chronology right. I know that if you upload the files to iMovie from one device the chronology isn't a problem, but I'm adding video files from a couple of iPhones and a couple of camcorders. any help much appeciated.

  • What is the best way to resize a clip

What is the best way to resize a clip? I have some clips in 1280x720p and a B camera shot of the same person that was shot at 1440x1080p and I want to multi-edit them so they need to be the same size. Is there a way inside FCP to re-interpret the 1440x1080 to 1280x720 or do I have to Export them as smaller clips and re-import them? Just have a lot of clips so would be good to find a internal FCP way of doing it.

Well Zeb, again with the insults. If you had just stated simply "What codec" are you using that would have been fine. But instead you decided to insult me and assume I knew nothing.
FYI I started working with video in 1985 and was one of the first to use Digital Video in 1991 as a Software Developer. So I can assure you I know a lot about codecs and NLE having even written one once. One of the things I learned in IT was to always ask for the best route through a problem from the experts around you before wasting valuable time and money finding your own, and usually the dead-ends at that!
So there you go, next time I'll mention the codec and next time if you could be more polite then things will progress more smothely on here

  • In iMovie 11 small gaps in clips seem to transition nicely, but how do I reduce or eliminate the larger gaps? I can't find a way to move the clips together.

In iMovie 11 small gaps in clips seem to transition nicely, but how do I reduce or eliminate the larger gaps? I can't find a way to move the clips together.

    I'm intrigued by this!
Can you explain further what the gaps look like when you export the movie. Are there black spaces, for example? You mentioned earlier that "it jumps quickly between clips that I edited which gives it a jerky appearance at those transitions". So you are possibly just seeing a change in sudden movement when moving from one clip to another.
I've noticed when shooting with my AVCHD camcorder that if I quickly move the camera straight after pressing the record button to stop recording, a jerky movement appears when played back. This is because the camera is still recording for a fraction of a second after pressing the button, that is, there is a slight delay before actual recording stops on the hard drive (unlike a tape based camera).
I simply edit out these annoying movements. When hovering the pointer over the beginning or end of a clip, a small icon appears, shaped like a left/right arrow. Click on the icon and a small section of the clip end (or beginning if editing the start point) will be partly encased in an orange border. You can then drag the border's handle inwards in increments of one frame, up to one second duration. Repeat this if you wish to trim more than one second. I find this better for short trimming than just dragging the clip ends inwards and using Trim to Selection from the pop-up menu, as it is quicker and has more precision. To enable this feature, in iMovie > Preferences - Browser tab, check the box labelled "Show Fine Tuning controls".
Of course, this may not be what you are seeing. But I can't really envisage what you mean by "how do I reduce or eliminate the larger gaps", as there should be no gaps, as explained by AppleMan1958. Could you please provide some more information, or include a screenshot of what you are describing.
To take a screenshot, press the key combination Command+Shift+4 - a crosshair will appear on screen. Drag this diagonally across the section you want to capture. A .png image file will appear on the Desktop. When posting here you will see a camera icon in the reply window's menu bar. Click on the camera icon then follow the steps provided (it lets you navigate to the image). Sorry if you already know this!

  • IMovie - how to re-analyze clip

I'm republishing some videos that I created a couple years back. I noticed, though, that the stabilization that I applied before (which did a very good job) is now terrible. It looks even like it has more shake than before. Is there any way to "re-analyze" the clip? I've tried creating a new project and dragging in the video from the events, but it's still using the same analysis (in fact, "Analyze Clip" is grayed out).
Any way to remove redo the analysis?
    Thanks,
    Tony

This worked perfectly, thanks! After doing what you suggested, I went back into iMovie and double clicked the clip, unchecked the stabilization box, and then clicked it again and it re-analyzed it.
I wonder what happened to the stabilization to begin with? The projects/events are two years old. I may have moved them to my new computer...don't remember. It is a bit worrisome that the application somehow "forgot" the stabilization (it actual keeps the original zoom but the stabilization is gone).

Is there a faster way to resize a clip to fit the ( Show Title Safe ).
What I do is shrink the clip down so I can see 2 or 3 clips at the same time and pick section that I want. Next I have to resize them back to normal size. I was want to know if there was a short cut or a hot key that resize it back to normal size?

Cmd-Opt-V brings up remove attributes. Check basic motion and click OK.

Where was the file? Was it in one of the iMovie folders or in another folder on your hard drive? From Finder, can you open the file in QuickTime? If so, open the QuickTime Inspector (Window>Show Movie Inspector). What is shown against Format in the Inspector panel?
You mentioned earlier that you had deleted iMovie's Cache folder (at least I think that is what you meant). I'm not sure how many Events you have, but in Finder try selecting each Event in turn then delete both the iMovie Movie Cache folder and the iMovie Thumbnails folder. When opened, iMovie will regenerate these folders and all the thumbnails. Delete these folders from one Event at a time and try starting iMovie after each deletion. Hopefully, the problem can be narrowed down to one Event.
Leave all the video clips in the Events folders at this stage. I suspect that it's one of the thumbnails in a single Event causing the problem.

  • Crop or Resize Video Clip???

    Hello everyone,
I'm new to iMovie and have been trying to figure out if it's possible to essentially crop a video clip. By crop I don't mean adjust the length of the clip, but actually crop/resize the video frame.
Here's my problem. I transfered some content from an old VHS tape to my DV camera, then imported it into iMovie. The bottom of the frame has a jittery/blurred edge and the right and left sides show a little black, almost like a border. I'd like to be able to crop and scale the video up so that it completely fills the frame and eliminates these unsightly edge problems.
    I hope that makes sense.
    Any thoughts???
    Thank you!
    -Rob

    Hi Greg,
I hope, you don't take it as personal offense, that I contract you (do I "allways"..?)...- in case, apologize for that!
    But
as ONE example: do you see the zilllions of posting "How do I import from dvd-cam/stillcam..."? Your answer would be"Can't be done!" << which is from the makers of iM indeed intended so! ... but, then your mentioned people tell about crappy Macs... So, I copy-'n-paste from my "notes" my standard answer "get for free Streamclip and..."
This is a board; different people, different opinions... some people posting here spend $$$$($) into hard- and software and don't even use the "help" function before posting here - far away from reading manuals, books, doing tutorials etc.pp.-
I totally agree in one point: I'm no technician, nor expert as Karl, Lennart, Matti, David or Dan, my "position" in this forum is more on the far side, for the workarounds, I do like the arcane, silly methods to make the impossible possible.- I'm a Mac user since '86, I experience the Mac as MY dream machine, allowing me to realize my creativity - on a pro level, it is my typewriter (no big specs neccessary) but I cannot spend much money into my hobbies (video, websites)... so I DO need these dirty tricks...
I post my experiences & methods here - it is up to you to share these methods.
    or not.
    In this case:
the OP has TWO questions: a problem with pic quality, and you (and I) gave him the hint: No Problem at all!
second, you gave the answer "cropping is impossible" - that is wrong. it is not needed, but it is possible, so, maybe in another project, maybe some other reader of this thread has use for such cropping...- the programmer of this plug-in shows examples on his website...-
if I want to take it easy with them, I would post 234times a day RTFM.........;-)
