[ProjectServer 2013] Resource authorization data lost on PSI Resource Update
Hi,
as the title says I noticed that sometimes resource authorization data of a resource/user is lost in ProjectServer 2013 on a PSI resource update. Since it did not happen every time for every resource (user) I tried to investigate this issue in more detail.
I found out that it is related to a change in the resource availabilities. A resource/user loses its resource authorization data on a UpdateResources PSI call when the following criteria are fulfilled:
- "Earliest available" or "Latest available" date is set
- Resource/user has more than one ResourceAvailablities row
- Max units are changed for one of the rows
Since this is a quite complicated and specific issue here are some simple steps to reproduce it on a PWA instance:
1. Create new resource/user.
2. Enter any date in the "Earliest available" field and assign the user to some security groups.
3. Programmatically change the max. units of any ResourceAvailablityRow and update the resource via the UpdateResources PSI call.
4. Open the user in PWA. The security group associations will not be there any more.
I have successfully reproduced this issue on two different PWA instances on two different servers.
Did i miss anything obvious or is this a well known issue?
If yes are there any workarounds?
Did anybody else run into this issue?
Thanks in advance for you help,
MichaelI created a Fiddler trace (see link at the end of the post) but i could not find anything suspicious in there.
If it helps here is the code that i use to reproduce the issue:
var singleResDs = resourceClient.ReadResource(resUid);
var maxUnitsRow = singleResDs.ResourceAvailabilities.First();
maxUnitsRow.RES_AVAIL_UNITS = maxUnitsRow.RES_AVAIL_UNITS + 1;
resourceClient.CheckOutResources(new Guid[] { resUid });
resourceClient.UpdateResources(singleResDs, false, false);
resourceClient.CheckInResources(new Guid[] { resUid }, false);
As you can see there is nothing special about it.
I also checked the patch level on one of the servers and its 15.0.4569.1506 which corresponds to SP1 (April 2014). I can definitely try to install the newest CU and check if that fixes the issue.
Fiddler trace:

EDIT:
I have now installed the March 2015 CU (15.0.4701.1001) and the issue is still existing. -
DPM 2012 R2 agent update on Windows 2003 server x64 - Exchange
According to the release notes on http://blogs.technet.com/b/dpm/archive/2014/04/23/now-available-update-rollup-2-for-system-center-2012-r2-data-protection-manager.aspx the following workloads are supported on Win2K3 with DPM2012 R2 UR2:
SQL 2005
SQL 2008
SQL 2008 R2
SharePoint 2007
Does that mean protecting Exchange 2007 on Win2K3 is no longer an option after upgrading to DPM 2012 R2 (UR2)? It works on DPM 2012 SP1 but I need to know if it will continue to work after upgrading.
(This question follows on from this thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c425421b-b726-4125-82fc-beae8947722c/dpm-2012-r2-agent-update-on-windows-2003-server-x64?forum=dpmsetup which was marked as 'answered')Hi,
Yes, Exchange 2007 backup will continue to work. I think that due to the timeframe of the UR2 release not all workloads were able to be re-certified, thus the limit in supported workloads.
Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Regards, Mike J. [MSFT]

June 10 2012 Firefox automatically updated itself (no choice) on my Intel Mac/Tiger 10.4.11. I can no longer use Firefox. I have an old version of Firefox on my Mac G4, but am scared to use that machine in case that Firefox also automatically updates itself. How can I transfer a copy of that older version of Firefox (from the G4) to the Intel Mac, and how do I stop both versions from then automatically updating? How do I then remove the updated version of Firefox from the Intel Mac, which I cannot use? Thank you for your help.
esqki FF update to 13 and now you can't open ? sorry about that.
1. Download (with your safari) a copy of the latest (3.6.28) from your 10.4.11 mac
from
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.28/mac/
2. '''Trash''' the current Firefox application to do a clean install.
3. Install the version that you have downloaded (3.6.28).
Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.
see also: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-mac?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Installing+Firefox+on+Mac Installing Firefox on Mac]
after install the 3.6.28 version go to: Options > Advanced > Update tab > Firefox updates, check mark '''Never check for updates (not recommended: security risk)''', click Ok to save it, exit firefox and restart it.

[SCCM 2012 R2] How SCCM 2012 handles Software Update Revisions?
Hi All,
There are a lot of questions regarding how SCCM 2012 handles Software Update Revisions.
Does anyone know what happened if:
Windows update publish some update with revision #1
Same update downloaded and deployed via SCCM 2012
Windows update publish same update with revision #2 or any newer revision
What is happening with SCCM and already deployed and downloaded revision? How should I know what revision is really on my distribution points?
Thank you in advance.
Regards,In WSUS Revision History is very simple:
Where I can find revision history in SCCM??? (please do not mention dates):
Possible scenario in SCCM:
Windows update publish revision #1 for one update
SCCM Download and Deploy same update and revision #1
Windows update change revision to #2
What SCCM does after this scenario?
Auto update Distribution Points with new revision of already deployed and downloaded update?
Clearly state in SCCM Console that there is new revision of already deployed and downloaded update and waiting for admin to act?
Just update the revision in SCCM Console and leave old revision od Distribution Points????? -
Resource Update Error - Classic
Folks
Had a call from an associate who has an old original Bondi Blue iMac running 10.2.8. She did a "Software Update" yesterday, and today on attempting to open PageMaker 6.5 Classic errored out with the message "Resource Update Error. An error was encountered while attempting to update your system folder with Classic specific resources".
She can startup in 9.2.2 by changing the Startup Disc in System Prefs. I tried DiskUtil, DiskWarrior, etc but both could do nothing due to "disk" or other problem. Tried to startup with original G3 install disk but the iMac just spat it out on trying to boot start with it - even after selecting it as the startup disk in System Prefs!
Nothing I do seems to make the old blue bubble sing again in Classic! (Everything seems to work in OS X, as far as I can tell - and as far as young lady can tell). In 9.2.2 PageMaker works and prints out, and all systems in 9 seem fine, by themselves, Just that OS X and C lassic don't want to know each other ...
Any help, please
Regards
RoyThere are a couple of things that you can try.
Repair permissions in Disk Utility for the system
Repair 9 permissions in Disk Utility. Under Edit (in Panther)
Try starting Classic with extensions off (Classic control panel)
Try rebuilding the desktop (Classic control panel). -
Acrobat can't download adobe french resource update
Hi all.
I am reinstalling a windows xp sp3 machine and I need to install Acrobat 8 std on it. So I did that and activated which all went fine. But when I go to help > update in the menu, it says it fails to download adobe french resource update for adobe updater because the file could not be verified and it gives me the options of prefs or quit. It does all of this before it even lists the updates that I am checking for!
How do I get update working again please? Thanks!Use http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html. When you install, log in as the administrator and disable anti-virus.

Dupekill - delete files with duped data (2012-06-13 update)
A few years ago, a friend and I had gotten a hold of a game's audio ripped directly from the disc. It included thousands of files that made up the game's sound, and many of the files sounded the exact same. We set out to pare this massive set of files down to something more manageable, with Python on our side. Thus, dupekill was born. When we first made it, it didn't recurse and was basically hacked together. I spent all of last night and most of this morning tweaking it for Python 3 and tried to turn it into a flexible console app/module.
dupekill will (by default) search the current directory for files with duplicated data and get rid of them. It accepts -h (help), -r (recursive), and -v (verbose) flags, which are obvious, and a path.
In addition, I added a "dry run" (-d) flag, so you know what will happen before you commit to getting rid of dupes. Without further delay, here it is:
https://github.com/sporkbox/dupekill
AUR Project Page
It's my first Python 3 app and the closest I've come to a truly useful piece of software.
Comments and suggestions welcome.
UPDATE (2011-11-04)
dupekill v1.3 is out. I followed keenerd's optimization suggestions to make it run better. Next on the list is an AUR package.
UPDATE (2012-06-12)
dupekill 1.5 supports ignoring symlinks with `-i`. Also available in the AUR.
UPDATE (2012-06-13)
dupekill 1.6
ignores device and character nodes as well as sockets and FIFO pipes.
`-a` and `-v` will now display the file that a dupe is a copy of, or the original file that a symlink clashes with.

This sha256 sums every file. That could be quite slow. For example:
time find /{bin,opt,sbin,usr,lib,lib32,lib64,boot,etc} -xtype f -print0 | xargs -0 NNNsum > /dev/null
sha256sum - 153 seconds (user)
md5sum - 44 seconds (user)
head -c 512 - 2.5 seconds (user)
ls -l - 5.6 seconds (user)
User time ignores IO, but I ran all on cold caches to be safe.
Some suggestions for optimizations: first stat the files and get the total size. If the sizes match, then read and compare the first 512 bytes. If those match, then md5 the files. If those match, then sha512. (While head looks like a fast operation, comparing the 512 bytes is not, so it goes after the size.)
edit, added stats
If I understand correctly, the idea is to only use up resources when needed, correct? If two files are of a different size, then obviously their contents will differ, for instance. I tested dupekill on my music collection and it surely took a little while. I imagine checking simpler things would improve the speed of the system. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll see what I can do to introduce something like that in the next version.

SQL Server 2012 SP2 Cumulative Update 5
We are starting to take a look at Cumulative update 5 for SQL Server 2012 SP2. The Installation was going smooth until the very in, where it sat on trying to start MSSQLServer for several minutes and finally timed out. Why does Cumulative
patch 5 says it failed to start the service when the server is already running? Version number changed, and everthing looks ok, except for the error message in the log file.
Is this a valid installation or do I need to try again?
Thanks.
DJThanks for the reply. The ErrorLog is too large to post in 1 reply. Will post multiple times.
Version of the SQL Server shows 11.0.5582.0

Server 2012 R2 cannot update from 2008 R2 WSUS server
Our WSUS server is on a 2008 R2 VM. Updates for all 2008 R2 and lower servers, and Windows 7 clients work fine. I have one Server 2012 R2 in production and it cannot check for updates. It gets 800b0001 as the error code. I can
click on check for updates from Microsoft, then it does reach out to the Internet, download and install updates.
I also tried from my Win 8.1 laptop and I get error 8024402C. Any idea's?I found in another thread the fix.
In regedit go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup and change "wYukonInstalled"
from a 1 to a 0.
Installer succeeds.
However now the Update Services console does not work. I get a connection error.
It's one thing after another with these things. I don't understand why Microsoft can't ever make something simple. IISReset did not cure this either.
The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.
Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.
The WSUS administration console has encountered an unexpected error. This may be a transient error; try restarting the administration console. If this error persists,
Try removing the persisted preferences for the console by deleting the wsus file under %appdata%\Microsoft\MMC\.

Prestage content no longer working after SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 update
I run SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 on a Windows 2008 R2 server.
I upgraded to CU1 in June, and today is the first time I've attempted to pre-stage a package since then. After pre-staging my package and getting the content out to the target DP, I went to properties of the DP, checked the box "Enable this
distribution point for prestage content", then hit Ok.
Next I went to distribute the content to the DP, however after going thru the wizard, nothing changes. There is no pending status, waiting on prestage content, that I had seen in the past when doing this task. I can go in and run the wizard
again, and the target DP shows up in the list, like I'd never initiated the push before.
Normal (non-prestaged) distributions work fine.
In troubleshooting this, I also noticed that I looking at the site status of the target DP, there are no status message entries for since I upgraded to CU1 (for that matter, none of my DP's have any entries since CU1). I did see a similar issue like
this in the forums
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/9491c2b1-37e6-46e3-9bb0-c5d673490d8a/component-status-not-updating-since-upgrade-from-sccm2012-sp1-cu3-to-sccm2012-r2?forum=configmanagergeneral but I don't have a backed up stat.mgr\retry inbox, it's empty.
I think this is related to why I can no longer prestage content, but I can't seem to find a reason for it. The fixes for R2 CU2 don't mention my issue here either
Anyone else seeing this?
TonyHi,
Please check SmsAdminUI.log and Smsprov.log after you distribute the content to the DP.

Joyce

ADRWin7-1 works fine. PC's in Phase1 gets the patches without any problem. But Phase2 and Phase3 PC's are not getting the patches. I have moved PC from Phase1 to Phase2 collection, same problem. When in Phase1 collection it gets the patches and when moved
to Phase2, it does not.

Not sure whats going wrong??????????
When I checked the Deployment Monitoring Tool for the perticular test PC, the contents for the Patch deployments are blank (Have attached the image)
Thanks.Let's start with that I think it's a very tricky method of deploying software updates. There is always a possibility that between phase 1 and 3 some updates are revised or even some complete new updates are available. That could cause differences (in for
example behavior) between your test clients and your other clients.
Back to your issue, it's hard to judge based on the log snippets. It looks like a function client and at the end I see something about 0 updates available.. Make sure that the software update group contains updates, the deployment is targeted to the right
collection and the content is all downloaded and available.

ThanksHi JAM ,
Is the first ISO downloaded from MS official web site ?
If yes , please use command " slmgr /dlv "to check the server edition , if it is evaluation edition please refer to the following similar thread :

Everything deleted & iTunes & Updater doesn't recognize iPod
Yeah, that's my problem. Funny thing is, I didn't do anything to the iPod to cause the problem. One day I was just adding songs to the iPod & using it like a hard drive (things I've done before with no problems) & then I turn it on two days later to
