0S 10.2 available on cds?

Hi,
and thanks for any assistance that you can provide. I have an old beige G3 266 upgraded with a sonnet zif accelerator. to a 500 G4. About six months ago I was able to install 10.2 using the cds that came with my white 12" Ibook 800 mhz onto the G3. I know its recommended that you do the install with a full retail version. To make a long story short, the install worked. I ended up archiving quite a bit of school work on the G3 because of its large hard drive. Unfortunately, the system has crashed and a few of these items only appear on the G3. Yes, no backup.. stupid me. So essentially I need to recover some data and I'm hard pressed to find retail versions 0f 10.2 in the cd as opposed to dvd version.
Any suggestions...

Welcome To Discussions Belab13!
I'm surprised that the initial install worked, using the disks that you did.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.7 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (US).
Jaguar and Panther, are no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
Jaguar Full Retail CDs, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Jaguar and Panther are only on CDs, not DVDs.

What's A Computer Specific Mac OS X Release
Software Update, Upgrade: What's The Difference?
Before upgrading to any OS X version, check to see if your Mac needs a Firmware Update.
If one is required, you must start the computer from a Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9 System Folder on the computer's hard disk, not from a CD, in order to install it.
Once Jaguar 10.2.x is installed, you can use the 10.2.8 Combo Update,
or if Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version of either OS.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the PPC 10.4.8 Combo Update.
Jaguar System Requirements
-Power Mac G3 or G4, iMac, eMac, PowerBook G3 or G4, or iBook computer
-128MB of physical RAM
-Supports all video cards shipped by Apple on Mac OS X-compatible systems. Quartz Extreme functionality is supported by the following video cards: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX, GeForce3, GeForce4 MX, or GeForce4 Ti; Any AGP-based ATI RADEON card. A minimum of 16MB VRAM is required.
-QuickTime Pro functionality requires a QuickTime 6 Pro key. The QuickTime 5 Pro key will not work after this software is installed.
-DVD Player requires a DVD-ROM equipped Macintosh with built-in FireWire.

  • How to convert a timestamp to date/time in CDS View?

    Dear experts,
I would like to convert a timestamp to a date and time within a CDS view.
This is what I tried to do:
    Cast (Cast(<timestamp> as abap.dec(8,0)) as abap.dats) as <date>
I also thought about first converting the timestamp into a plain numerical character, then using substring and then casting it to abap.dats. Then its giving me an error that says: "dec can't be converted into numc".
The above written code also throws an error - "function not allowed/ no cast within a cast".
It is quite nasty not being able to write a cast within a cast - how else am i supposed to achieve a date here?
I am looking forward to have your answers!
    Thanks and BR
    Anja

    Hi Anja,
what you try to do is currently not possible, a feature not available in CDS views.
Yet it surely is a feature, ABAP developers would like to see on the feature request list .
    Cheers,

  • Getting 10.4 onto a G3 iMac w/o DVD drive

So I'm having some Tiger taming trouble.
I've been quite happy with my G4 iBook since I bought it; Tiger came with it, and I haven't made the Leopard leap, so it's running 10.4.11 with all current updates. I still have my old G3 iMac (Summer 2001 "Kiva") on my desk at home, though, and still use it happily; it's running Panther 10.3.9, and is otherwise happy. Up until recently, I had no trouble in keeping the two machines in synch through iSynch and my .mac account.
Then some of the post-Leopard updates came along, and now things between my Tiger apps and my Panther apps don't synch correctly, if at all. As I understand it, this is a software generation issue. The solution to this seemed obvious: just bring my iMac up to the same Tiger OS version as my iBook. I did a little research, and 10.4.11 should run fine on my iMac. Problem solved.
Not quite. The copy of Tiger I have to start with is the 10.4.2 that came with my iBook. Those discs are DVDs, and the iMac doesn't have a DVD drive. After a couple of work-around experiments, I figured this way of getting things to run: took my portable Firewire 400 G-Drive mini and copied the Install Disc 1 onto it, then booted the iMac from that drive. Installer opened fine, then told me I couldn't install this software onto this machine. Hmmm.
Being something of an empiricist at heart, I tried an experiment. Set my main external HD (another Firewire 400 G-Drive) as the destination disc, and installed 10.4.2 onto it from the Install Disc 1 DVD itself through the iBook. Fine. Set that drive as the boot disc for the iMac and started up the iMac in 10.4.2 perfectly fine, except that it treated everything as though it was a clean install on an empty machine (and that I don't particularly want my external HD to be the boot disc for the iMac).
Still, I know 10.4.2 runs fine one the iMac, so it seems obvious that I CAN load that software onto that machine. Or can I?
Okay, the answer to my problem may be quite simple. Is it that the Installer itself won't load the OS onto the iMac off of the DVDs because they're OEM bonded to the iBook they came with? If so, why did it install onto an external HD with no problems? And, more to the point, is there some other work-around that will let me get Tiger onto my iMac?
Yes, yes. I know this wouldn't be an issue if I'd bought a copy of Tiger for the iMac back when it was available. But pairing Panther and Tiger wasn't an issue back then, either. I'm looking for someplace online that might still be selling Tiger, but without any luck.
Frankly, I just want my two Macs to sych as cleanly as they used to.

  • How to print a file index in mac os 10.9

How do I print a file index in 10.9?

I don't have a plain CD, but I tried a CD-RW and the ability to leave it appendable was not available. I'm not sure if that is related to CD-RW or if the feature was dropped in Mavericks.
Check the More Like This links on the right.

  • Trying to update from OS 10.1__hard drive selection in Installer greyed out

Was recently given an iMac with a faulty HD. Was able to install a new HD and OS 10.1, but have been unable to update further, because the Installer has greyed out the HD choice in the final step of installation. I am at a loss here. Also the HD is showing as only having about 130 GB available on a 250 GB drive. I doubt the problems are directly related, but maybe one of you would know. • How do I create a multi-session in Mac OS 10.9.2 that can be 'appended' on a Windows machine?

  • Cannot print, cannot get online

I can't find the "post new subject" button but this thread seems to relate. I am trying to get my old iMac g3 2001 going so my granddaughter can use it to prepare and print homework. Problem is with the printing. I choose the printer in chooser and do page set up, but when I tell it to print (MSWORD 2001) the message repeatedly says to choose the correct printer in the chooser. I can't get ethernet or the phone line to get online except I can get to email on AOL. My problem may be I have forgotten how to work Classic. I have Leopard and somewhere I have panther but doubt this vintage would run those versions. I have my G5 discs which have OSX, could I install that on G3?

  • Mac ibook (powerbook4,3 4.3) won't boot tiger os x

    Hi..
I booted into Open Firmware on an ibook which previously had os x 10.4.11 installed on it.  I did something to change the boot parameter by choosing to boot into os 9.2.1 but now os x won't boot.  I then reformatted the drive with an os 9.2.1 installation cd disk utility.
When I boot into Open Firmware the first and second line read:
    Apple Powerbook4,3 4.3 6f3 BootROM built on 05/14/02 at 15:14:32
    Copyright 1994-2002 Apple Computer, Inc.
I'm wondering why since I have purchased a retail copy of OS X Tiger 10.4 that I can't boot from the Tiger installation media.
Can anyone help me recover my iBook?  I purchased the iBook second-hand with OS X preinstalled.

Now that may not work either.
The Powerbook 4,3 iBooks were anytime between May 20, 2002 and October 22, 2003.
Inside the battery bay it should tell you if there is a CD, DVD, or Combo drive (supports DVD), or superdrive (DVD burner).  It should also tell you the serial number, which is your key to knowing which retail installer will work.  The serial numbers are written with a prefix of 5 characters, the last 3 tell you the date of manufacture,
and what was able to run on it.    So any xx243xxxxx where x can be any letter or number would be the 43rd week of 2002.   Any xx307xxxxx would be the 7th week of 2003.
    During that time frame:
    August 24, 2002 10.2 was released (26th week).
After this point only the 10.2.3 retail installer will work or later retail installer, or the prebundled discs.
    December 19, 2002 10.2.3 retail was released (51st week).
After this point only the 10.3 retail installer or later retail installer would work, or prebundled discs.
10.3 retail installers were all CDs.
10.4 retail installers were mostly DVDs, though a limited version was available with CDs known as the Media Exchange discs.
Prebundled discs included Appleworks and hardware test and portions of iLife not included with the operating system.
You can't use the installer disc that came with another Mac of the same vintage but different model, or different model but same vintage.   You can't use OEM or upgrade discs, except where the upgrade disc was available within the 3 weeks of the operating system release and if the Mac was shipped during that tight time frame.

Before upgrading to any OS X version, check to see if your Mac needs a Firmware Update.
If one is required, you must start the computer from a Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9 System Folder on the computer's hard disk, not from a CD, in order to install it.
If your Mac meets the Tiger System Requirements, once installed, you can use the
