"0x80004005: Unspecified error" when renaming folders in Windows 7 32-bit

I just installed a new internal SSD drive. After a while, i began to get an error message whenever i try to rename a folder.
"An unexpected error is keeping you from renaming the folder. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error"
Clicking the "Try Again" button gets past the error, and correctly renames the folder.
If i create a folder and leave it's name as "New Folder", then i don't see an error.
I'm also able to manipulate files however i want without seeing an error.

The issue might be caused by the corrupted profile. I suggest to create another new account and log in to see if the same issue occurs.

While in Command Prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run. It will scan and try to fix any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and mostly remove that as a cause.
I also would like to suggest you check the permission of this SSD.
If the issue still occurs, based on my knowledge and experience, most of the actions will be recorded in the Event logs, for the folder redirection related issue, the event would be logged in Application event logs, the event Source would be like "Folder Redirection".
We can check if there are any related events as ZigZag and Nigel mentioned.

I keep getting an windows installation error when installing icloud for windows 7. I have tried installing manually without success.

There is a very long way which is removing anything related to Apple including stuff in the registry.
The short way is as follows. It worked for me.
I have seen that in the forum EXCEPT the registry trick which is missing and does the different.
1. Remove the Apple account from Outlook. In my case a me.com account.
2. Disconnect the connection to ICloud in the control panel of version 3.1.
REBOOT and open Outlook to see that all traces of the email account and of ICloud are gone.
3. Uninstall ICloud 3.1. I used REVO Uninstaller in Safe way mode. It removed some stuff in the registry from what I see; but not sure.
4. Delete as much stuff as possible in the C \Program Files (x86) \Common Files \ Apple
and C\Program Files\Common Files \Apple. My computer is 64 bits.
5. Go to the registry by typing regedit.exe or simply type regedit in the Start Box. Search for ICloud. I deleted TWO entries related to ICloud. Otherwise, you will still see the ICloud control panel despite the fact that you removed 3.1.
6. then I was able to install ICloud 4 immediately. Upon restarting it asked me my email and password and added itseft to Outlook like it was before. Be aware that you address book in Outlook could be deleted, so do an export before.

Unspecified error when trying to access Control Panel

I am currently setting up Remote Desktop Services on Server 2012 and I have enabled the policy
"Prohibit access to Control Panel and PC settings".
When a user clicks on the Control Panel icon, or anything else that points to Control Panel (Screen Resolution, Personalize) they get the normal error of
"This operation has been cancelled due to restrcitions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator" which is fine and is expected, but they then get the error,
"Unspecified error".
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Have you enabled the option to display "Personalization" in Group Policy?
This is because "Personalization" option is linked to Control Panel, so if you prohibit access to control panel, and right click on the desktop select "Personalize", it results in the "Unspecified Error".

PowerPivot Error "Failed to connect to the server. Reason: Unspecified error" when importing other files

I have been getting the error below on a regular basis when attempting to import Excel, Text, or Access files.
I'm running Office 2010 (SP1), and PowerPivot (SP1). After reading a similar thread I reinstalled PowerPivot. It worked until I closed Excel. Now it recuses to allow import or update of these files. I really need it to work. Anyone have an solution or even
something to try - other than uninstalling and reinstalling PowerPiviot everytime I need to import or refresh files?

My MacBook Pro encounters an error when partitioning for loading windows using Bootcamp Assistant. I deleted the partition that was there in order to upgrade to Bootcamp 5 but now I am struggling to get Bootcamp 5 to complete the job. Help please.

I am struggling to Partition my MacBook Pro using Bootcamp 5, can someone help, please. I previously had successfully loaded Windows 7 running Bootcamp 4 on the same machine. When I upgraded to Windows 8 I started encountering problems. My trackpad would not work and it required me to load Bootcamp 5" as I was running 32 bit this is not supported by Bootcamp 5 I had to completely delete the previous partition, but now I can't repartition as it goes halfway and says an error has been encountered and Bootcamp cannot partition this drive.
I do not know how to defragment the drive in Apple as I can in windows nor can I clean it up to maybe get everything in neat clusters, maybe somebody can help me solve this problem.

Sorry Bobthefisherman, this was not helpful. I had already gone through these pages before coming to you. What I have discovered however is that when Bootcamp Assistant deleted the partition, it did not create a single volume but created three partitions instead which maybe the reason why it cannot create the new part ion parameters I am asking it crate. So I took it to the geniuses at Apple who suggested that I reformat the drive and reload everything again! and this might solve the problem. We'll all know whether this is helpful once it finishes the formatting of the hard drive. This process is taking a very long time to complete so I am leaving it overnight for it to complete. I will keep you updated on progress. I am also told that Apple is struggling with Windows 8 drivers and I may not be able to use that, so I am going back to Windows 7 even though I was beginning to like windows 8 very much.

Error when installing RAC on windows 2000

I'm installing Oracle 9i(9.0.1.1.1 EE) RAC for the first time. It has been an interesting experience,
with many bumps in the road. But now I'm stuck.
I have installed the 9i EE software, but when I try to create a database ( using DBCA), I get an error :
PRKR-1005 : adding of cluster database cludb configuration failed, PRKC-1018 : Error getting coordinator node
The error occurs after I have finished configurating, and the actual database creation starts.
I did get another error earlier : PRKR-1028 "raw device \\.\srvcfg is invalid, [HINT: initialize raw device by using
'srvconfig' tool]
That error disappeared after running srvconfig -init.
I have restarted the Oracle GSD services on both machines, but I still get the same error.
The OS is Windows 2000 Advanced Server, running on a Compaq Cluster.

Bootstrapper error when installing cs6 on windows 8

Dear Jeff - Thanks for that - I had seen those notes on the adobe help site, but, the instructions given don't seem to apply exactly to Windows 8.1 as when I looked them up, I couldn't find the network path specified in the help document you reference:
Windows 32 bit (XP, Vista, 7): \Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\
Windows 64 bit (XP, Vista, 7): \Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\
because on my windows 8.1 machine, in the "Adobe" folder there was no "installer" folder.
Since I wasn't sure how to find the error log, My first "Troubleshooting" move was to de-install the program (Adobe Design Standard CS6) and then re-download the file from the adobe site here: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/other-downloads.html
However, at the moment, the problem seems to be ok, so I guess that perhaps that fixed the problem? Fingers crossed!
For future reference (or in case someone else is looking at this posting with a similar issue?) do you know how to find the error log on an installation on Windows 8.1? Thanks!

Unspecified error when stopping XL Reporter Add On

Dear Experts,
When I try to generate a XL report, I get the error
"Required COM Addin has not been loaded and prohibits MS Excel from running".
Afterwhich, I go to Program Files > SAP > Addons to run the COMAddin-peruser-something.reg. After running this registry file. still same error.
Anyway, I also experienced the below error when trying to Stop the XL Reporter Addon:
"Run-time error '-2147024882 (8007000e)': System Error &H80004005(-2147467259). Unspecified error"
Does anyone has any ideas on this?

Unspecified error when writing variant shared variable

Hi everybody,
I'm getting an unspecified error (-2147467259) when trying to write a variant to a shared variable hosted on my cRIO device.
I'm using a cRIO chassis as a headless controller that dynamically finds remote ScanIO chassis at startup. Similar to the LabVIEW example, the cRIO finds the chassis and generates clusters containing the IO container refnums as well as other information about the modules. I generate two arrays (local and remote) of these clusters, turn them into a variant, and publish it as a network published shared variable so they can be used in a remote PC to add or remove remote channels as needed.
Has anyone had this sort of issue before? I'm new to real-time so I'm not sure if I have violated some canon here or not Thank you for your help

There appear to be a few Corrective Action Requests (CARs) associated with using shared variables of the variant data type. The closest one I could find related to your issue was CAR #291679 where Wiring FieldPoint IO Point into shared variable throws error -2147467259. All CARs that I could find about using shared variables of the variant type threw the same error you are seeing and are feeding into it less standard datatypes (FieldPoint IO, LVClasses, IMAQ references).
To get a more general overview of your problem, does this error come up the first time you try to write to this shared variable or does it come up somewhat randomly? It would help if you could tell us exactly what hardware you are doing and if you can recreate this issue by simply deploying a program that writes a constant cluster with the same data types into that shared variable.
A possible workaround for you to try would be using the Flatten to String and Unflatten from String functions and pass that through a string shared variable. This has seemed to work for others in the past.

Firefox won't start, and I cannot download the new version as it keeps saying 'unspecified error' when I try

We (my wife and I) downloaded the new version of firefox, but found that it was being very jerky and slow and just didn't really like how it looked. My wife did a system restore on our computer to see if that helped, and since then firefox hasn't started at all - if we double click on the icon, it looks like it's doing something and then it just doesn't open. Whenever I try and download it again it comes up with 'unspecified error'. I've tried deleting all the firefox program files from my computer first, but there is one file in conponents that it won't let me because I need administrator permission. It doesn't seem to make any difference anyway.

Using "System Restore" can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because not all files are restored (only files in a white-list), so be cautious with using System Restore.<br />
You need to (re)install software that was affected.<br />
Remove the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) before reinstalling a freshly downloaded Firefox copy to do a clean install.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

OSX Lion 10.7.4 issue with Windows shares when renaming folders

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if its an known issue when a user logs into a smb share with his AD credentials and when trying to rename a folder which he has permissions to, hes unable to do so and osx prompts for login details. When user enters the correct login it prompts them again and therefore he's unable to rename the folder.
There are also other folders under the main folder and some of those he's able to rename with no problem so this problem only occurs sometimes.
AD is on Windows Server 2008 R2 with all updates installed and OSX Lion users also have the latest updates.
Any help regarding the issue is welcome, thank you!

I think there's nothing to do with the drive manufacturer,
I used the macDrive for windows, and format it to HFS(not HFS+)

Actually I have this folder/files,
InstallMacOSX.pkg (folder)
Inside InstallMacOSX.pkg(folder) it has files:
InstallESD.dmg(using ULTRAISO was burned to dvd)
This files are NOT included in the burn dvd image:
Bom
PackageInfo
Payload
Scripts
This files/folder is outside InstallMacOSX.pkg(folder):
Distribution(file)
[TOC].xml(file)
Resources(folder)
The original .DMG file was MOsXLeoneDieciSetteDue.dmg(but this is fake, it's a Xar compressed)
The valid .DMG file is inside the .XAR, so I extracted it, and found those files and folders.
So, I'll include that in the burned dvd?

I'm trying to import below XML profile to Windows 7 machine and no matter what profile i use (even the one it was on that computer originally it gives me an error.
Command:
netsh mbn add profile interface="Mobile Broadband Connection" name="test.xml"
test.xml is in c:\temp folder.

Tried these steps:
- configured the setting using UI and test connection - it worked.
- copied that profile from path: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\WwanSvc\Profiles to
c:\temp and renamed it to test.xml
- closed the connection and run command: netsh mbn delete profile interface="Mobile Broadband Connection" name=TestProfile
- and then tried to add the profile under changed name (no profile changes made): netsh mbn add profile interface="Mobile Broadband Connection" name="test.xml"
- received very nice message: Add Profile Failure: Invalid Profile XML

Got an answer. It required some debugging, but I end up finding it.
When you add that profile, system executes a function which compares Subscription ID tag with the one it has in system already. If one is already there then overwrites the profile, if NULL adds the profile. Problem is, as soon as any of
the profiles are configured manually to redistribute later, the Subscription ID tag is encoded. And window doesn't know how to decode it, so it fires an error.
The Subscription tag is an IMSI number, when you right click it on your connection and go to properties, you will see it there, 15 digits. Copy it and paste it to the XML file replacing encoded number.
It works as a charm.
