  • Error 0xc18a0206

I have tried many ways and many time to get past Error: 0xc18a0206 which is the Ink System Failure. I am not pleased to report that no solution works.
Apparently the individual ink cartridges are dated, and they have expiration dates, and if any of the cartridges you have in the machine are fully loaded with ink, and yet past their expriation dates, which means you didn't use them fast enough, the Ink System Failure Message "Error: 0xc18a0206" comes up and your machine will do absolutely nothing, no printing, no faxes, no copying.
This appears to be a case of fraud. HP pretends to sell you a printer, but what they are really selling you is a contingent license to print, and the contingency is that you buy a new "unexpired" set of ink cartridges from HP on a regular basis, I don't know if it's once a year or once every 6 months, but you need unexpired cartridges to be able to print, and brand new cartridges will expire on a date certain, not long from whe you buy them from HP. So they really are giving you a lease to print documents, not a piece of equipment that will print documents when you need them, or until the ink runs out.
The Photsmart 3210 All in One is a vehicle for the lease agreement or the license to print agreement, and it's all spelled out in their contract, in the very very very fine print designed to maximize their efforts to monetize their business efforts.
To me this looks like Tying, which means forcing you to buy one product so you can use another, and in this case it appears to be highly predatory tying because they don't just want you to buy one set of inks, they wat you to come back and buy sets of inks on a regular basis to keep your printer working. When the cartridges pass their expiration date, no matter how full they are, your machine stops working, and cannot be made to work without a new set of cartridges whcih are very very costly.
This looks like an anti-trust violation, which is a federal statutory offense, and like fraud which is a common law offense. I imagine there are rules governing consumer products that are also broken by the sharp practices of HP in selling their Photosmart and Inks and Very Fine Print Contract Deal.
As one single person, I am helpless to protect my interests invested in this very very costly and totally useless machine. But if there [edited comment by Moderator] who are not satisfied with their Photosmart 3210 All in One, [edited comment by moderator], or possibly in the form of a trade where HP takes back the offending machines, and provides simpler machines that operate without the ink cartridge expiration system that is so harmful to unsuspecting HP customers who simply are not aware of all of the provisions in the fine fine fine prnt of the sales contract at the time they buy, and have no reason to imagine that any company would ever try such an outrageous stunt. So they buy in good faith, and they get burned.[edited comment by moderator]. I can't. You can't. Together we might be able to.
    How say you?

  • I am getting a code on my printer of 0xc18a0206. what does this mean ?

I have a HP Photosmart 7250 all in one. I am getting a error code of 0xc18a0206.  It says to turn off the printer and restart BUT when I turn off the printer. it goes off for a split second and then goes back on. I think the printerand or computer does not recognize that the printer was turned off.
I would unplug it but the printer say this may cause damage. What do I do ?

    Hello dmnndj,
This is the proper procedure and if this fails, take it in for service.
    1. Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the product, but leave the product turned on.
    2. Open the cover of the product and remove the print cartridges.
    3. Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display.
    4. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and wait for one minute.
    5. Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
    6. Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
    7. Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.
    8. Reconnect the USB cable, and try to print a print job from the computer.
    Hope this helps?

  • Replaced my ink, getting error 0xc18a0206

I replaced the ink with new HO cartridges.  Ink level reads full.  Otherwise all I get is the error.  I hsvr reset the machine and cleaned all the contacts with distilled water and a Q-tip.
Please tell me how to correct this problem.
    Machine:  Photosmart C7280
    OS              Windows 8.1
please be aware that after spending $55.00 on an all new HP-02 ink set to get an error message and not even a test page, I am about ready to buy a Canon....

    Hi,
    Please try the following steps:
    Without turning off the product,
Remove the cartridges from the product.
Wait until a message to insert the cartridges displays. If you do not see a message within a few minutes, skip to the next step.
NOTE:If your printer does not have a display, wait until the cartridge lights blink. If the cartridge lights do not blink within a few minutes, skip to the next step.
Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
    Wait 60 seconds.
Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button ( ).
Reinsert the cartridges, and then close any open doors on the product.
If you receive a prompt to print a calibration page, do so.
    Try printing again.
    Regards.

  • Photosmart 8250 Error 0xc18a0206

Help.  I've used this printer 3 times to print and then it sat unused for 18 months.  Now after firing it up I'm getting this error message.  I spent almost $80 on new ink but it did not make a difference.  I ran all the updates from your site and nothing.  I looked online for help on this printer and was amazed at how many people have the same problem.  I've seen solutions from cleaning the clogged ink ports to removing the battery.  Am I sitting with a lemon here?  I feel doubly cheated for spending additional money on ink that's now useless.  Can you please help!

    Hi
Try resetting the printer as described below....

  • C5140 reports error oxc18a0206

    Greetings,
My C5140 recently threw an error that the ink system has failed, and gave error code 0xc18a0206 on the LCD. I've tried a few things found here and there on the forums to correct this, but all of the solutions are for other models, and in some cases don't apply (this printer doesn't have a keypad, for example).
Power cycling, removing and replacing the cartridges, disconnecting all of the cables and letting it set a few minutes before reconnecting everything all fail to resolve the issue.
Is there a specific method I need to use to clear this? The ink in the printer is relatively new (bought within the last two months) and has a 2015 expiration date.
The printer was working fine just last week and gave no indication at the time that it might be having issues, so I'm at a loss to determine what may be wrong here. Any ideas on what I shouild be trying?

    Hi,
You have tried performing a basic reset on the printer. You can try performing an Ink system Reset. In order to perform the reset do the following steps:-
1> Remove all the ink supplies and printhead(if removable) while the unit is turned on
2> Clean the electrical contacts of the cartridges with a lint free cloth and also the contacts on the printhead
3> Make sure that the contacts are completely dried and cleaned before inserting them back into the printer
4> Plug the printer directly to the wall outlet without the cartridges
5> Once it prompts you to insert the cartridges insert them one by one
This will help in reseting the ink system and hope helps you also
    Thanks
