0xE8000004 error workaround

For those running 10.8 and getting this error when downloading Apps here is what to do.
I was alas forced as my previous MBP died of BSD to buy a new one and that came with 10.8. In any case to remedy this error, simply find a machine that is running 10.6 and all will be well. Dont' know what the issue is with iTunes and 10.8, but there you go. My other machine will remain frozen at 10.6.8 until it dies.

'Encode in background' is ticked.
Although I often use 'Best Performance' encoding, I do NOT have that item selected because I have found it can cause problems if you change any movie contents in editing the iDVD project.

It's an internal server error. There's a problem with the .jsp coding on the site. If it's someone else's site, there's not much you can do about it until the administrator realizes there's a problem and fixes it.
If it's your own site, you need to check the Java Server Pages coding. Very few people, if any, with JSP experience frequent this forum.

  • File name punctuation WILL cause MP3 and DVD burn errors – workaround?

OK, I’ve seen TONS of questions about problems burning MP3 format CDs and DVD. I’ve been having this problem for quite a while and today I just got ****** off enough to do some deep research. I seek to share my finding and suggestions for work arounds.
    THE PROBLEM
iTunes can burn regular CDs since the song file name is not actually put on the CD. The CD or DVD burner work for burning audio discs and with other applications. All the burn preferences are set correctly and have been validated. But when you attempt to burn an MP3 CD or DVD (for backup, transfer or for player that play MP3 discs), iTunes may do the following:
Checking media (iTunes will ask: “You have inserted a DVD. Are you sure you want to create a Data DVD? answer yes, it’s a blank DVD disc in a working DVD burner)
    Checking playlist
    Burning disc… initializing
"The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (xxxx).”
    THE CAUSE
Many times the error is due to song, album or artist names with unacceptable punctuation in them. iTunes does not tell you why and the error message and Google searches and Apple support/discussion forum details are sketchy… but in most cases its “illegal” punctuation in the song name, artist or album. I isolated at lest the apostrophe ‘ there are probably other illegal name punctuations too.
The cause my be explained by Apple following ISO or Joliet file name specifications or file name length specifications for CD or DVD discs. But since this appears to be undocumented (to the iTunes user) there is a need to understand the restrictions to allow error free disc burning.
    THE CHALLENGE
Even if the playlist name does not have punctuation, if ANY playlist song name/artist/album does, the DVD burn will fail. Removing the offending songs from the playlists results in a successful burn but hey, I WANT those other songs too!
    POSSIBLE WORK AROUNDS
Changing actual song file name – even if you change the name in iTunes (Get Info, Info, change name, artist, album) the actual song file names are not updated and continue to have the punctuation error resulting in a burn failure.
It appears that the actual file name needs to be changed. This can be a challenge. If you change only the file name you need to add modified file back into iTunes and the old file link is now broken. This is a bigger problem if that song file is in multiple playlists (the old ones are broken and the new one needs to be substituted). This is a REAL problem if you have 2,800 songs with an ‘ in them (like I do).
LETS WORK TOGETHER AND SHARE RESULTS
I’ve seen many, many unanswered questions about iTunes CD and DVD burning problems that will likely be solved if we can collectively develop and document a workaround. So, here is
    THE QUESTION
What is the best way to rename (or retag) MP3 song files to eliminate punctuation and update iTunes and playlists so these songs can be burned to CD or DVD without violating the undocumented illegal punctuation restriction? The work around may differ for OS X vs Windows users so help on both would be appreciated.
Thank you all in advance for your help!

been searching myself to create my own cdg for use in universal karaoke players. Kjams appears to offer the most hope for all I want to do. although there's something new now called Aria which promises to do a bunch of stuff for 79 $. Otherwise, all that I want to do as listed by the original poster, would cost me Kjams lite, plus the burn plug in is extra, plus I'd need the kjams producer as I would be building a cdg by adding the synced lyrics to something I've removed the vocal from, on Audacity program. if I go with Kjams, those 3 softwares, it will cost me 150, while I'm so jealous all those PC karaoke singers have free software for karaoke they can download.
I've been buying my cdg discs at 1.99 a pop, but they don't have special songs I want to perform. Aria for Mac might just do it all but I don't need the "scratch" sound they are pushing. that makes me steer away from the software.
experimenting with the Imac 10.6 idvd movie quicktime might work. I made a few cdg but have not tried them in the club karaoke machine yet. I added the lyrics to tuneprompter which is a free software that lets you add and sync the lyrics to the music with the spacebar. thats fun. but it's all in experimental thing so far. I know Kjams does not let you add lyrics and sync them yourself. you are supposed to import cdg to kjams that are already available and pay for them. in this case I want to find my own special tunes. good luck to you. there's one other thing but it's expensive. buying software which turns your mac into a windows platform by partiioning it and you start up in one or the other. that's also about 100-150 software.

  • Multiplexing Error Workaround

We have a variety of iMac's and MacBooks that are experiencing multiplexing errors when attempting to burn with iDVD.
Having read various forums and suggestions, through extended trial and error we narrowed down the workaround to simply deleting the com.apple.iDVD.plist (just type 'idvd.plist' into the spotlight, drag this to the trash and empty the trash ) then restarting the machine.
You can also tell if there will be a problem burning prior to beginning to burn. Make sure under 'advanced', 'Encode in background' is ticked. Drag a film onto iDVD and immediately open 'project'-'project info...'. At the bottom of this screen there is a window showing encoding assets. If it instantly says 'done' there is an error on encoding, which will lead to a multiplexing error on burning. You should see a blue progress bar that should take several minutes even for very short films.
Seems to work reliably with several machines and a variety of projects.
    Hope this is useful
    OSX version: 10.4.10
    iDVD version: '08 (7.0.1)

    'Encode in background' is ticked.
Although I often use 'Best Performance' encoding, I do NOT have that item selected because I have found it can cause problems if you change any movie contents in editing the iDVD project.

  • ADF Mobile: Code Signing Error Workaround

    Hi, everyone:
If you are doing ADF Mobile development, and you need to deploy the application to an iOS device, you would need to compile/deploy the app with iOS App Certificates and Provisioning Profile. This means you would need to "Deploy to Package" or "Deploy to iTunes" during deployment, and configure JDeveloper with the proper certificates/profiles. In some instances (exact combination is still not clear), deploy and signing the application to generate the ipa file may fail with similar error message at the end of the deployment log:
[01:04:45 PM] Deployment failed due to one or more errors returned by '/usr/bin/xcrun'. The following is a summary of the returned error(s): Command-line execution failed (Return code: 1) error: /usr/bin/codesign force preserve-metadata=identifier,entitlements,resource-rules sign iPhone Distribution: Oracle Corporation resource-rules=/var/folders/x7/21sjrpx13qj9tq20z14s3j_w0000gn/T/tkROhP11qU/Payload/HelloWorld.app/ResourceRules.plist --entitlements /var/folders/x7/21sjrpx13qj9tq20z14s3j_w0000gn/T/tkROhP11qU/entitlements_plistEINPBkIG /var/folders/x7/21sjrpx13qj9tq20z14s3j_w0000gn/T/tkROhP11qU/Payload/HelloWorld.app failed with error 1. This issue is a known issue and is not related to ADF Mobile. The workaround is discussed in this article:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7425840/that-codesign-returned-1-object-ifile-format-invalid-or-unsuitable-problem-aga
This article refers to the old location of Xcode, so you would need to adjust the paths accordingly. The path for Xcode 4.3 and above would be like:
    /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents//Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/usr/bin/PackageApplication to this script file.
To modify it, you probably can’t use TextEdit. I end up opening a terminal session, changed the file permission, and used vi to update it.
This fixed the issue I was having.
Hope this is helpful - please drop a reply if you encountered the same issue.
    Thanks,

What do you mean by "the "-sign" parameter values look dubious (besides your name :-P), how can it interpret those spaces?"
The sign parameter that i'm using is from the KeyChain app, so i'm assuming in the preferences where it asks for the Certificate, that its asking for the certificate name in KeyChain? When trying to escape the spaces in the Preferences menu, it complains that the certificate names do not match.. Or am i meant to be using another parameter here..?

  • Publish Error Workaround - Manually Publish to .Mac

If you are having problems publishing your iWeb sites, you can manually publish to .Mac and still get all of the special .Mac-only features by following these steps:
    1) Choose "Publish All to .Mac" from the file menu.
    2) As soon as you get the message that your site upload will continue in the background, open Applications > Utilities > Terminal
    3) In Terminal type:
    open /var/tmp
    4) A Finder window will open. Find the folder called "folder.SomeNumber". Open it and then open the TemporaryItems folder. In it should be several folders called com.apple.iWebSome_LongNumber. In one of them you will find a folder called "sites" that contains all of your sites from iWeb ready to upload to .Mac.
    5) Copy (Option-Drag) this "sites" folder to your desktop
    6) Now you can upload the contents of that folder to the proper location on your iDisk (the correct path is iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/)
I hope this helps some of you get your sites published. It worked for me.

Hi geebee - bit long winded but this is the full fix that I wrote up for someone else - it worked for them so good luck.
    1. To create a new login, open system preference folder and open accounts. Unlock by clicking on the padlock icon. Now click on the plus icon which will allow you to create a new login name and password. Tick allow user to administer computer. Lock the padlock again and close window.
    2. Go to apple logo top left of screen and logoff your username - you will be prompted shortly with choice of logins and choose the new one - you get a fresh screen which looks like when you first switched on the mac. You can test iweb here by publishing any old template to see if it works. It should do. Assuming all is ok, this next is how to publish your existing site.
    3. Go back to your normal login. Find the domain file and copy it to dvd - domain file can be found as follows: open finder > click on house icon (yourname) >click on library >click on application support >click on iweb and here you will find domain file - copy it.
    4. Log out and log on to new login again - find domain file in this system and delete it then in its place put your copy domain file from the dvd. When you open iweb in this system you should see your web files and hopefully you should now be able to publish them. This is where I succeeded.
    5. If successful I have since discovered that you can do the reverse - ie. delete the domain file from your main login - copy domain file from your new login and put it back in the original system. I found this shook off whatever the problem was. I have also discovered since that I seem to have lost some functionality in that the slide shows don't seem to work now so I guess I might have to rebuild some of the pages - but the important thing is it will now publish.
Hope you can follow this and hope you have the success I had. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with, and let me know if it works.

Hello, I'm trying to update the firmware in my DCM-202 modem via TFTP and I keep getting an error "Workaround Bonjour Unknown Error 0". This occurs when I enter the following command lines in the terminal
    sudo service tftp start
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/tftp.plist
The rest of the process seems to work (files copy to private/tftpboot, telnet opens modem), however when I try to
    dload 192.168.100.2 Hitr252.bin
I get the error that the file was not able to be downloaded, that there is an error of some sort. Can this be attributed to the Workaround Bonjour error? Thanks for any help.

I think it's harmless on the Bonjour Error...

So, I'm gonna guess it's something else.

  • Launchd --- Workaround Bonjour: Unknown error: 0

Since upgrading to macosx 10.4.7 I am getting this error
    Workaround Bonjour: Unknown error: 0
    when running my code
    launchctl load me.my_process.plist
what's with this? does it matter? does Apple know about this? what would be the
best way of flagging this so someone at Apple resolves it?
    Any suggestions welcome!

    Hi MacPeter,
It's a known bug, happens to everyone and is harmless. I don't know if it's been filed.

  • Iphone 4. version 7.1.2

    I have had my I-phone 4 for 4 years.
last week after the upgrade for IOS-7 i noticed that my WIFI button is grey and stopped working, so i decided to go to the Apple store, to check for solution.
I was there for approximately 10 minutes, then the employee decided it needs to be restored.
He restored it, then, while trying to activate it,I-tunes showed a 0xE8000004 Error, and we could not activate it.
The employee was sure its not Apple's fault and insisted that i must go to the phone carrier company, to activate my sim-card.
I did not believe that at first, but he was so convinced of his rightfulness that i decided to give it a chance.
So i drove from the apple store to my phone carrier location which is 25 minutes drive, just to tell me what i already knew.
it was not the sim-card issue, it was a software issue.
So i came back to the apple store, had to speak to several different people, they were nice, offered me the same iphone-4 for half price, but still... i was not happy, I walked in there with a well functioning phone, and there is no reason that I should pay for a new device when I dont even want a new device.
Long story short, I walked in apple with a grey button Wifi issue, and walked out without activated phone, and now i have no phone.
    shame on apples policy.

    Hello ahujasunil_01,
It sounds like you are trying to update your iPhone 4 over the air, rather than through iTunes but the connection is timing out when it tries to download. I would use the troubleshooting information in the following article to help you get that resolved, named:
Resolve issues with an over-the-air iOS update
If you get a message that "an error occurred downloading iOS," try again later. If the issue persists, try updating your device in another network or use iTunes to update your device. Learn more about iOS updates.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling
