1.1.0.315 Upgrade Wreaked Havoc on My Contacts

I installed the1.1.0.315 upgrade a couple of weeks ago, and after roughly 48 hours of absolute chaos (affecting emails, calendar, etc.), my contacts remain scewed up.  Texts from my oldest friend are showing up as if they came from my most important CEO client (phone number and text belong to friend but name and picture phone puts with them are of client); texts from an old colleague are appearing as if sent from a current colleague; when I try to call a current partner, I get a list of 16 different "work" phone numbers, 15 of which have no relation to him.  One doesn't have to think long before realizing the problems this could lead to.
I'm particulalry disappointed because I've been one of Blackberry's most loyal customers -- holding out for them to release their new line in 2013, after 49 out of every 50 of my colleagues switched -- because Blackberry was always the superior product when it came to syncing with my Outlook emails, contacts, etc.
Now that my Outlook contacts are shuffled like a deck of cards, I'm not sure why I still have a Blackberry.
Please let me know if anyone has figured this out.

Sorry if that's what you've experienced so far.
First, I'm not sure what update you're referring to as I've never heard of 1.1.0.315. OS updates are formatted like 10.2.1.xxxx.
However, it sounds like your problem is just an issue with contacts linking. The device tries to link contacts it thinks are the same. Open one of the contacts that is messed up. At the bottom click on "Links." That should show you all the contacts linked together. Unlink contacts that shouldn't be linked.
Deleting the accounts would be a good second option. Deleting the accounts will unlink everything and force the device to do it's auto-linking process again. However, if you can, it's best to just go through them and check the links manually.

  • Changing MIDI Port Order is wreaking havoc on my Environment

    Anyone seen this before?
I've got a MOTU Midi Express with 4 ins and outs - it's my main interface.
I've also got a Novation Remote25SL which works as a control surface/controller with 3 out ports. It requires some special Environment cabling to work properly with Logic.
Everything was working fine until lately all my projects stopped responding to MIDI from my master keyboard...
I eventually discovered it was because Logic had some how changed the order of MIDI ports. It used to be "Midi Express 1.... 4" followed by "Remote25SL 1...3".
Now if I look at the "outputs & Ports" page in the Environment, it's reversed. "Remote25SL 1...3" followed by "Midi Express 1....4".
So what? Well, the dumb cables in the environment don't move when the ports do. So the cables that used to be connected to the Remote25SL are now connected to the Motu Midi Express, which wreaks havoc on my project.
Any ideas a) what causes this, and b) how to re-order the ports so it goes back the way it was before?
I've tried messing around in the AudioMidi setup tool but don't see any thing here that will help.
It points up, I think, a flaw in Logic's "logic". Environment cables should be tied to physical/logical ports, not just handed out on a 'first come, first serve' to whoever shows up on the midi bus first. The system apparently can "see" the difference between the Motu and the Novation. So why can't Logic?
Grrr. Time to start reading the Nuendo brochures again.

    I HAVE A SOLUTION
and it works fine for me after a series of trial and error experiments.
Quit Logic (for now) and do the following.
    1) Download the app MidiPipe from this site:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/audio/midipipe.html
    2) Plug in all of your MIDI controllers (I mean, all of them)
    3) Start making one 'pipe' at a time. Think of them as 'rules' for MIDI flow.
I wish I could post screen shots here... I can show you that I have 6 'pipes' happening.
Why: I have these controllers (according to Logic) happening:
Korg nanoKEYS, nanoPAD, nanoKONTROL; Alesis Photon X25; midiman (now M-Audio) midisport 2x2; Tascam US-144 (the MIDI portion)
    4) In these pipes, ONE AT A TIME, these pipes are very simple:
-drag a •Midi In for each controller,
    -click the 'hijack' button.
    -drag a •Midi Out next,
-create a new virtual Midi Out Port and name it. In my case I went numerically (e.g. 1 nanoPAD, 2 nanoKEYS...) just so I can see the port name is different than the input. Do what works for you here
    5) Create a new pipe, redo step 4 until you've created a new pipe for every controller you have.
Save this Midipipe file, and open it prior to any Logic session, before you open Logic.
    6) Open Logic. In the global preferences, go to Controller Assignments (Command-K)
and you'll have to define any custom controller data (this may not be necessary for you). But I had to change the controller listening port for all nanoKONTROL assignments. You may not have to do anything here at all.
    7) In the case of the folks trying to use two (or more) controllers, as in three keyboards at a time you still have to change one setting: and unfortunately this is not global for Logic, you'll have to change it every single project:
-Under File>Project Settings>Recording, you need to check the box that says
"Auto Demix by channel if multitrack recording"
-For each virtual instrument, you need to set the Midi Channel it responds to. Generally on the left above your channel strip, named Inst 1 (2, 3, 4, ...) depending on which track you're on, click the drop-triangle and you'll see: MIDI Channel: ALL --- change it to whatever you assigned your controller to
-After you've assigned those MIDI Channe;s per track; now arm each track you wish to record onto (or play, trigger, etc) ---arm meaning 'click the R so it's red'
You should be good to go!
To boil it down to simply: download MidiPipe, figure it out, define controller data if necessary, check Demix by Channel in Project Settings, Set each track's Midi Channel, Arm each track, record two (or more) parts at once.
You'll spend 30 minutes or more figuring out MidiPipe for your setup (less if you're brilliant); anywheres up to an hour or more in Controller Assignments but you may not need to do anything here); and less than a minute for the rest. Do the heavy work once (and tweak it) -- after that, the checkboxes/Midi Channel assignments/track arming is like, 10 clicks every project.
    Good luck!
Works great for me with this setup:
all the controllers listed above, Logic 8.0.2, iMac 2.4Ghz, OSX 10.5.6

    Hi Friends,
We have planned to upgrade our SCCM 2012 SP1 infrastructure to SCCM 2012 R2 so we have setup test environment to test SQL database upgrade before doing same in production.

Can anyone please help to get this resolved.
    Thanks.

We found out that there were duplicate entries in the PkgStatus_G and the PkgServers_G tables in the SCCM DB.  We identified them, deleted them , and then we were able to run the /TESTDBUPGRADE command and it went through fine.  We performed
all of this on a COPY of the PROD DB and then moved the changes in PROD.  Hope this helps someone.

You should copy everything from your old computer to your new one, then sync.
The iphone will sync with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will indeed erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.

Try rebooting your router and or cable modem. Unplug it/them for about 30 seconds and then plug back in. See if it works then.
    Reboot your iPad as well.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    Hi Dave,
Have you tried "Update DHTML effects in topics"? That might solve some of your problems. Otherwise a simple script that opens every topic, adds a space in the head section and saves the file may help you out.

  • Does iTunes merely lie or does it plan to wreak havoc?

iTunes 11.1.3 running under OSX 10.8.5 may not update apps installed on my 64GB iPad-3 (with iOS 7) merely by invoking Sync [a mis-feature that appeared after iOS7 was installed].
In iTunes, if I click on the Update button for an app, that button changes to say Will Update, but the status bar below will also show installed storage for apps shrinking to a trivial value --- the "Free" amount goes from 9gb to 50+gb and app count drops from 1000+ to below 30.  This signal of a drastic change also appears if I try to install a newly purchased app.  In each case, I have invoked Revert rather than lose my crafted installation of apps.
My feedback via iTunes (7 days ago) about this has elicited no response from Apple.  It is not clear whether I am seeing a benign bug involving a drastically incorrect display or correct display about a gross bug involving a drastic failure to maintain existing structure.

Q: iPad sync'd with Mac/iTunes Media Library before?
A: yes, regularly without error from Nov-2012 through Oct-2013
After a long discussion with Apple Tech Support for iOS, being on-hold while tech did some research, having phone connection broken at Apple's end, waiting 3+ hours for tech to reconnect via my call-back number, finding no voice message from Apple after I returned from some errands, re-phoning AppleCare only to learn they closed early on Thanksgiving-Eve, I decided to proceed with two standard procedures.  (Note that Restore Backup is a much simpler procedure than Restore iPad --- those commands appear in different blocks of the Summary tab within iTunes.)
    0)  iPad connected via USB to Mac, backup the iPad via iTunes
    1)  Restore Backup: no change in behavior
    2)  Restore iPad: accept "Restore … to factory settings", then choose Restore from Backup.
Note: the backup does have details about the several pages, their various folders, and the apps in those folders.  The "Restore from Backup" phase had multiple occasions where the Apple icon appeared together with a progress bar indicating the device was rebooting ---- I suspect restoration of each page was followed by reboot.  After the page structures were restored, then apps were downloaded from the Mac ---- about 10 hours with several interruptions for rebooting.  Because this restoration was incomplete (several folders had unusual icon and apps within were labeled "Loading…"), I needed to do 2 or 3 subsequent Snyc's to clean up.
         RESULT: no change in behavior.
    a) updates not installed
    b) selecting an update or new app to be installed causes the dramatic signal of lots of used space becoming "FREE"
Eventually, I invoked Apply after seeing visual signal about possible havoc --- the result was installation of the update (sometimes requiring a followup Sync to complete a load).  On several occasions, installation of a new app triggered a reboot of the iPad.
During a Friday call with Apple Tech Suport, the tech urged me to restore the iPad as a new device, reinstall my stuff, and see whether the bug reappered.  His chief rationale was the idea that my backup had a software bug.  Since the backup file should have no software, I will escalate my next query to upper-level support when I phone on Saturday.  In any event, creating by-hand a human-readable record of my iPad's organization would take several days to create and several additional days to then recreate that structure.  If I evaluate that in terms of billable hours, it would be cheaper for me to buy a new iPad.

  • Spotlight wreaking havoc on Lion

So... I upgraded to Lion and also installed Lion Server. Now I am getting roughly 2000 to 5000 log entries PER SECOND in system log from Spotlight. Always the same message:

21.07.11 10:51:04,995 com.apple.mdworker.lsb.0: *** process 1231 exceeded 500 log message per second limit  -  remaining messages this second discarded ***
I already reset the indexes (mdutil -E -a), but that doesn't help.
Fortunately I am running the system off of an SSD so I am not really "feeling" any effects on system performance due to the huge amount of logging. But still. Something is wrong and I need that fixed.
Searching Google for the exact error message brings exactly 0 matches.
    Any ideas anyone?

I will wait for Lion to settle into its new place ein the Apple lineup.

  • Kids and iMac - OK to load web-based games?  This wreaked havoc on our PC's

    greetings:
What, if any, are the risks in allowing my sons - when they visit Nick.com or Cartoonnetwork.com, etc.. - to download and play their games?? Many of their games launch without any plug-ins, but others require that they first download and install some little plug-in needed to play the game. ..Will my iMac then go the way of every PC I've ever owned and start becoming unstable?? What if what they load isn't intended for Mac? Again, will this screw things up and render what has been flawlessly reliable a bit less so??
Thanks in advance for you replies.

I'm a school teacher and the kids are always playing online games on my Macs. Nothing to worry about. You are talking about spyware that will not effect the Mac. Wreaks havok on Windows, as you say, but the Mac will be fine.

  • Firefox is slow to open and close. I get a "script error" that says it may be caused by a recently opened tab. What do I do to correct this problem. It is wreaking havoc when trying to open/close or move around the internet.

I am getting a "script error" when I close out the internet, specifically Firefox. My backup internet explorer does not do this. This is slowing down the process of opening/closing Firefox. When I open Mozilla, I get "restore session" even though I have closed everything down. I have "removed program" and re-downloaded Mozilla 3 times and still this problem persists. What is causing it and how do I fix it?

  • Healing Brush's sampler remains active, wreaking havoc

I am a first-time user of Photoshop Elements (8, just arrived today), but I think I've discovered a bug:
When I try to use the Healing Brush, I Alt+Click on an area I want to copy, and then begin painting over the blemishes. However, the pixels replacing the blemishes are NOT what I clicked on, but are constantly changing, and I see a second cursor over to the right that is sampling pixels as I paint/heal. If the second cursor (which moves in lockstop with my mouse movements and the cursor I'm controlling, but off to the side) moves over a black spot, my brush paints black; if it moves over a thick line, a thick line is painted in the area where I want to "heal."
Is this an undocumented feature, a new bug in APE8, or what?
IOW, rather than continually applying the same thing (what I Alt+Clicked on), the Healing Brush is mirroring whatever the "ghost" cursor is over.

You have the overlay option turned on. When you drag rather than click, the healing brush and the clone stamp will automatically sample in a pattern following the movement of the brush, beginning where you alt clicked. You can turn the overlay off in the options bar, but you can't keep these tools from going into aligned mode when you drag. (The overlay is new; the aligned-when-dragging behavior isn't.)
The dark area under the cursor is to show you your stroke more carefully. It has no effect on the final result any more than the marching ants type outline in previous versions. It's just a visibility aid.

  • "Phantom" accounts on second drive wreaking havoc with the main drive!

I recently bought a new hard drive for my 2006 MacPro, intending to use it as a new startup disk.
Trouble is, the drive it replaced, a 2TB drive has too much info I want to keep to move it out and reformat.  So I figured if I deleted all of the old system files I'd be ok.
Since then I've been plagued with problems, mostly permissions changing in the core services folders.  There are other minor issues as well, like my apple keyboard function keys not doing what they're supposed to, and if I accidentally hit the eject button in the menu bar I get the beachball of death, with no way to force quit.
I have done everything I could, and a lot of research, and I stumbled upon the answer.  In the startup disk utility "Reset password' I noted that the admin account, and user account from the old drive were still being recognized as existing.  So basically it's like my computer is having an identity crisis!
I've been searching for a way to get rid of those phantom accounts, and my best lead turned up some apparent glitch in Leopard regarding old accounts.  But how to get rid of them?
It would be very difficult for me to safely backup the sheer amount of data on that drive in order to reformat, but I can't seem to find how to rid myself of these accounts.  I tried logging in as the root user, but didn't see any tell-tale files on that drive.
It's driving me nuts!  I even started studying UNIX in hopes of being able to find a solution in Terminal.
    Any suggests?

Actually I had no intention or desire to move the account to the new drive.  Two of my drives were on the verge of utterly failing, and I wanted to do an entirely clean installation on the new drive, in case anything on the failing drives could have been corrupted in any way.
Ironically, it's not the original accounts that concern me.  I had three drives and in desperation quickly installed osx on the third (2TB) drive (The only reliable one) in the hopes of saving anything from the two drives that were going belly up.  At the time we really couldn't afford a new drive and I was hoping I could at least save the data by doing this drastic step.
When it didn't work I bought a new drive, remove the two failing ones leaving me with the new clean drive and the 2TB with the emergency backup install.  It's the accounts created by THAT installation that concerns me :/
