1.1.3 killed bluetooth

I updated to 1.1.3 today and now my apple bluetooth headset will not work.
I have restarted and restored but with no luck. When I try to turn bluetooth on in my iphone all I get is a spinning beach ball.
Anyone else have this problem?

Not sure this will help you, but it fixed my iphone and garmin c580 issue.
I had tried the reset all settings on iphone and it didn't work for me either.
I figured it out finally last night. You do hit restore(in itunes) with your iphone connected, but the option to select new iphone isn't until after you have restored you phone and then it pops up. Well luckly I had 2 computers set up for sync on my iphone, but only one sync all my info. I restored on the computer that was authorized, but didn't have all my info 1st and when it pop up new iphone selected it. Then I pluged my iphone into the 2nd computer that had all my info and sync, Yeah!!!! all my music, pictures, contacts ringtones, etc... sync to my restored phone. The only thing that didn't sync was email settings and sms messages and a few options settings. I had put all my email settings on a word doc on my computer before the restore and glad I did. My bluetooth works perfect with my Garmin C580, after I unpaired them and paired them again. Yes and all my iphone contacts (phone book)shows up again, no disconnect and I was using it as a handsfree for over an hour this morning. The battery life even seems to have improved now. I realize not eveyone has 2 computers to sync with, but from other post I have read, by doing the backup before you restore if you sync your iphone after you have set up new iphone you should be able to sync again to itunes and have the same result. Hope this makes sense. Good luck.
Updated: My iphone and handsfree (Garmin C580) device have been working great since last night and all day with no issues and battery life has improved since I restored my iphone.

  • Sonnet USB 3.0 PCIe Fail with Mountain Lion, Kills Bluetooth

Just sent the following to Sonnet support. They have a system support installer that is supposed to make the card work with Mountain Lion, which it does, but it also kills Bluetooth on my Mac Pro:
Hi there. Have been banging my head against a wall on Mountain Lion upgrade to a 3,1 Mac Pro and have figured out that your Sonnet USB 3.0 System Support Installer 1.0.1 causes Bluetooth to become unavailable, which for me is a deal breaker.
Here is how I get to the conclusion that your software is the issue:
    1. Clean install of Mountain Lion
    2. Install USB 3.0 Driver (Mac) 1.06B, reboot (Bluetooth fine)
    3. Install Sonnet USB 3.0 System Support Installer 1.0.1, reboot, Bluetooth not available (jagged line through Bluetooth icon in menu bar, no Bluetooth item in System Preferences panel)
When I remove this last item and restart Bluetooth comes back.
I hope there is an urgency around a fix for this. Please let me know if you need any more information.

Very quick response from Sonnet, known issue, they are working on it, no commitment on timing of fix.

  • 10.5.2 killed bluetooth

10.5.2 killed our internal bluetooth in our imac 2.8 24" any help, experience, suggestions?!?! can't use wireless mighty mouse or keyboard. the menu bar bluetooth icon says "Bluetooth: Not Available" and the Bluetooth system preferences says "No Devices" and when try to "Set Up New Device" it says "No Bluetooth Hardware Found In order to use this application, you must have a Bluetooth module. Please verify that your Bluetooth hardware is properly attached to the computer."

My Mac Pro had the same issue. To revive the bluetooth, I had to reset the SMC. Here's an article from Apple on how to do that for an Intel iMac: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446
    Good luck.

  • External HD kills bluetooth

I have a external AcomData external IDE USB 2.0 hard drive enclosure with a internal 320GB IDE drive. If i start up my iMac with the drive turned on Bluetooth will be disabled and wifi will not work. After about 3 min the Bluetooth gets the unavailable symbol and i have to restart and turn off the HD to get BT and WiFi back. When the problem is occurring if i pull the USB 2.0 cable out of the iMac after about 30secs BT and Wifi come back and everything works.
It seems to only happen with this one HD. I have had it happen once or twice on another but its rare. But it will happen EVERY time with the acomdate enclosure and 320GB ide drive

I have had a similar problem with a Buffalo firewire hard drive. Everything went south after a software update about two weeks ago. Whenever I restart the computer, I lose all my bluetooth devices, which is difficult since I have a wireless keypad and mouse. The only solution seems to be to start up with all cables disconnected. Have called support three times with this and mostly they keep sticking with the "it must be my batteries" kind of logic. Batteries are fine, something is wrong. Everything was fine before the one update.

  • Wifi menu kills bluetooth connection

This is very weird behaviour.  I have a Kaiser Baas bluetooth keyboard with integrated trackpad.  I also use wifi to connect to the internet via my modem-router.
Since installing Yosemite, the keyboard looses its connection to my Mac Mini if I move the mouse pointer and hover over the Wifi menu.  However, that is only if the Mac Mini was not able to make a wifi connection.
For some reason, my Mac Mini doesn't always see my router's broadcast ssid.  When that happens, the wifi menu looks like a giant version of what it looks when connected.  I turn wifi off and on and still it can't see my router.  Strange because it can see three other wifi spots in my suburb.  Then, if I put the Mac Mini to sleep and wake it again, yes, it can see the ssid and connects automatically.
Then, the problem with my bluetooth keyboard is solved too.
Just what is going on with wifi and bluetooth in Yosemite.  OS X networking has always been fragile, flaky and temperamental but this is getting especially obtuse.
Has anyone seen this behaviour ?
    Garry

Thanks. I'll try a different keyboard-trackpad-mouse and look for more reports on wifi problems.  I've not yet found any on theses discussions boards which involve both bluetooth and wifi but, as 10.10 is still young it might be developing.
The Kaiser Baas is not very suited to OS X although they say it is compatible.  It works but, the Trackpad prefs pane doesn't recognise it and the mouse pane options don't work very well with it either.  So, it could be related to the problem.  Still, I don't understand why it should lose the bluetooth connection just because I've accessed the wifi menu.
    Cheers.

  • 10.4.10 has killed Bluetooth, USB syncing of my Treo

Hi, no idea where to post this - I see some other people are having Bluetooth problems under 10.4.10, and others having USB problems under 10.4.10 ... I'm having both. Since installing 10.4.10 (on my 12" PB G4), Bluetooth syncing of my Treo 650 via Plam Desktop started to go flaky, then died altogether - Bluetooth menu item says "not available", no Bluetooth device shows up in System Profiler.
So then I tried syncing over the USB cable. That isn't working anymore either. So then I tried iSync, with the USB cable connected. iSync doesn't even see the device.
No idea at all what could be wrong with the USB. I assume it isn't the cable itself.
Troubleshooting I have already tried for the Bluetooth: (1) Reset PMU; (2) Reset PRAM; (3) deleted bluetooth preferences plist file from Library; (4) more shutdown/restarts than I can count.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have relied totally on this Mac/Treo combo for years ... not being able to sync is like having my brain in 2 different places.

I called a helpful local Mac store. They suggested two super-simple steps:
    (1) Repair disk permissions and restart.
    (2) Download and install the COMBO update to 10.4.10 from Apple. (Not the incremental "delta" update from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10 that your Mac downloads automatically via System Update, but instead the blanket update for people upgrading from a variety of different versions.)
They explained to me that often the Combo update works better because it can address issues that arise when upgrading bit by bit.
This completely and instantly fixed the Bluetooth problem for me. My Bluetooth is back. And USB syncing is behaving again.
Should have called them right away. Let's hear it for the good old independent Mac dealers!

  • Mountain Lion kills bluetooth, trackpad gestures

I have latest gen iMac.   After Mountain Lion upgrade.   No bluetooth is available though my keyboard and trackpad connect.   Keyboard acts generics with no top row keys working and trackpad has lost gestures.  Machine does see a trackpad in system prefs.
    Is this release garbage???

Okay, I just found another thread that solved it for me.
Go to this thread and on the second page near the bottom you'll find a thread by joe81tx. Even though my "Disable automatic login" box was already unchecked and I couldn't find anything about name and password, and I figured that it wasn't going to work ... it did.
I hope it works for you.

  • U430 Touch: Energy Manager kills Bluetooth

As soon as I install the Energy Manager, Bluetooth just fails to start. Bluetooth shows up in the Device Manager, but cannot be startet.
Tested with (latest) original Lenovo Drivers and Intel's Drivers.
Any Ideas? I need Bluetooth for my external Mouse.

I also installed the new version of the energy manager but it had not solved my bleutooth issue completly.
I solved the bleutooth challenge on the "Lenovo U430 touch" running Windows 8.1
    by reinstalling the "Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS-adapter".
With this driver "gawy08ww"  for Windows 8.1 from the lenovo website, WARNING  this driver is said (by lenovo)
not intended for the "Lenovo U430 touch" and therefore be sure to make a system restore point before taking any further actions. Also be aware I will not provide any further assistance and that following the installation steps in this "forum post" is completly at your own risk.
    1) Make a complete system restore point ,to be assured that should something go wrong you can revert your system to a previous state.
2)Turn off Bluetooth by opening the charm bar on the right of the screen, then click "Settings"
then click "Change pc settings", and click on tab "PC and devices.
Now click on tab "Bluetooth" where you will find a "On OFF" slide. put this in the off position.
    3) Now install the driver for Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS-adapter
by clicking on  "gawy08ww.exe" and follow the steps of the installer.
    4) Reboot after installation
    Good luck!

  • 10.5.6 kills Bluetooth

    Hello,
Since "upgrading" to 10.5.6 my 3rd party Bluetooth USB dongle will no longer connect to anything.
Guess it's time to spend yet more money...perhaps $250 for the Apple Bluetooth part for my G5. Oh wait, my entire computer's not even worth that anymore.
    Sigh. Thanks Apple.

    Hi teimo;
I am afraid your threat is falling on deaf ears because Apple doesn't read this forum.
This is a user to user forum. If you really believe this is a problem that Apple should fix then forward it to them at

  • WebOS 1.4 killed Bluetooth on Motorola IHF1000

I am a Volunteer here, not employed by HP.
You too can become an HP Expert! Details HERE!
If my post has helped you, click the Kudos Thumbs up!
If it solved your issue, Click the "Accept as Solution" button so others can benefit from the question you asked!

1.4.1.1 broke it again.  My s9-hd (it uses A2DP) stopped working.  1.4.1.1 was released to fix their bluetooth BMW user problem.  And broke a2dp.
I'm done with this phone and it's constantly broken, crashing, freezing self.  I spent hours at sprint  They said if the ear bud works, then the bluetooth works!  The buffoons there didn't understand that a2dp technology is not the same as the stupid earbuds.
    Sprint's recommendation was "call Palm."
I called Palm.  After about 20 minutes of arguing with them why I shouldn't pay them $15 dollars for support, they acquiesced and entertained my question.  It took the support person and his supervisor 5 minutes to realize that they were ill equipped to resolve the issue and left it as "all we can do is hope they resolve the issue with the next update."  Of which, they had no clue as to when the update would happen.
    Glad I didn't pay them $15.
They also broke the wifi with 1.4 update - the connection is just shoddy.
Looking at old threads, they have repeadly had problems not getting their bluetooth ducks in a row before updating the OS...  They should just call it what it is...  a POS

  • Solution: 10.4.10 killed bluetooth

Installing the 10.4.10 update on my mac mini caused my bluetooth to die.
System profiler could not find the bluetooth card. After messing around with reinstalling updates etc, I found the solution.
I deleted 'Extensions.kextcache' found in the System:Library folder. Reboot and blue tooth was active again.
For people with airport problems, I would give it a try.

    Billybubbob,
Thanks for this little gem of info. Do you think this would cure my incredibly slow Airport card? Since the update to 10.4.10 my Airport card has slowed to a crawl and to the point where I have turned off Airport and hooked up directly to my AEBS via an ethernet cable. Everything works as normal with this setup, so it's definitely the Mac Mini or its Airport card.
    TIA

  • What is killing Bluetooth?

My Magic Trackpad worked fine for a couple of weeks on my Quad Core Mac Pro. Then it started going dead after the computer sat unused overnight or while I was at work.
Symptoms: The Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences is very, very sluggish. When it finally opens, it says something at the top about not being able to find the computer's name. I shut down and restart a couple of times, and after a while the Bluetooth preference pane won't even load -- it's completely missing from the System Preferences window.
Attempted fixes that didn't work: I uninstalled USB Overdrive using its uninstaller after reading about a conflict here, but it didn't help. I tried removing the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file from the local Library/Preferences folder after reading that suggestion here, but it didn't help. I tried removing the Trackpad.prefPane file from System/Library/PreferencePanes, but System Preferences crashes on launch then, so I reinstalled Magic Trackpad MultiTouch Update 1.0 -- now System Preferences launches again, but it didn't help. I tried turning off Bluetooth on the iPhone 3GS sitting beside my computer, recently updated to iOS 4.1, but it didn't help.
The fix that does work -- until it fails again: The only way I have found to get the Bluetooth preference pane to load again is to remove these 5 preference panes from my local Library/PrerencePanes folder, and reboot: Flip4Mac WMV, Growl, TechTool Protection, TrackballWorks (from Kennsington, for the SlimBlade Trackball), and WacomTablet (all the latest versions). But tomorrow, Bluetooth will be broken again and I'll have to do this all over.
I will test these 5 preference panes to see whether I can narrow it down to a conflict with one in particular. But in the meantime, does anybody know?

I went out for an hour to get a haircut, and Bluetooth is now once again flaky and the Magic Trackpad again doesn't work. The only preference pane I had reinstalled beforehand is the TechTool Protection prefpane. I'll remove it now, reboot to get Bluetooth working again, then install one of the other suspect prefpanes to see if the problem persists or disappears. This will take a while....

  • 3/11/15 Windows Update killed bluetooth on Thinkpad Tablet 2

So I just finished installing Windows updates from March 11 and my Bluetooth on my Thinkpad Tablet 2 is suddenly disabled.  Anyone else having this problem?
I can't access Bluetooth settings.  On the devices Control Panel, there is no Bluetooth Device under networking, but a Serial Bus device is displaying an error message.  Disabling/Enabling the device and restarting does not help.  It cannot be uninstalled, and when I try to update the driver it says there are no new drivers available.
I manually downloaded the latest BT driver from Lenovo support (it is several months old) and after it completes the re-installation/repair, there is still no BT.  It seems like the driver is simply incompatible with the newly updated Windows OS.  Let me know if you have any other ideas.  Otherwise, Lenovo should be alerted to this problem so they can fix it.
I rely on my tablet daily for work and it's a major inconvenience when it becomes disabled by a routine update.  The TPT2 is designed for use with the BT Keyboard.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Something's definitely gone wrong. I can enable Bluetooth, and can pair with my Windows Phone, but I can no longer share files from my phoine to the Tablet. That alone is a big pain in the butt.
I rarely use my bluetooth keyboard. It always had the same problem that at some random point, it woudl disconnect from the Tablet, and the only way to get it to reconnect was to cycle the Bluetooth on and off. Easier said than done when the tablet is docked. I gave up after a while, and use either a Logitech wireless keyboard or usb keyboards.
The March Rollup ironically included a fix that specifcially addressed the keyboard lock out. Apparenttly, if the PC had BT 4.0 (which ours does), and it could see other devices other than just the keyboard, then it would disconnect the keyboard, and cycling power on the keyboard would not fix the problem. The MS patch was designed to fix this specific issue. I don't recall the KB #.
That said, hopefully Lenovo will see these issues being reported, and update the drivers.

  • Mac 10.8.5 - IOS7 Bluetooth Crisis

Seems to me there is a big problem with the new Apple OS upgrades killing Bluetooth! In my case on my MacBook.
I've been struggling with this for 2 days, since I upgraded to 10.8.5 which I needed to go to get the latest iTunes, which I needed to upgrade my iPhone and iPad to IOS7 . . . yes, right down the garden path I walked
    MacBook Pro 17", early 2009.
After the 10.8.5 upgrade Bluetooth is Not Available, same as seanluck13.
-System Preferences: no sign of Bluetooth
-System Search: no sign of Bluetooth
-System Profile Information: Bluetooth: No Information Found
-So Bluetooth is absent, removed, not present -- AGHHHHH!!!!!
Apple BT keyboard and trackpad can't be used. MacBook trackpad is worn out and I get wrist strain trying to activate it!
I read on a forum that a fix was to reinstall the system over the internet after a CMD-OPT-R restart. Did that -- 5 HOURS LATER -- NO CHANGE, BLUETOOTH STILL ABSENT !@(%&( )TY(@Q#*!!
Please someone help me before I throw this Mac down the garbage shoot. At the moment that's only a fantasy.

I upgraded to ios7 and i have the same problem, with my macpro. Blue tooth not available, checked preferences and the bluetooth option is now gone from system prefs. Trackpad is no longer usable this morning.
checked for updates and im S O L for now...
