1.1.4 International settings

I have upgraded to 1.1.4 and discovered that there are only 4 languages now available English, french, German and Italian. The keyboard and region format lists have also shrunk. I was using Spanish when using 1.1.3 and now it is unavailable aftr I made the upgrade. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me and does anybody have any ideas how I can get spanish into my international list?
thanks

could have just been something funny happening try rebooting again and see if it happens again

  • Do international settings require an admin?

I'm working on a new MacBook with Leopard 10.5.6 (I think it's .6) installed. I am working in a regular account, no admin privileges. I set up the language to be Spanish under "International" in the system preferences, but after logging in and out, and even rebooting, the changes don't take effect. In fact, the only place I see any Spanish is in the Format tab under International (and that's just to set the date/time formats).
Do I need to have an admin password to change the language? If so, I wonder why it doesn't ask me to type one in or have the option to rearrange the language order greyed out?
Ultimately, I would like to have the tech people create a new user where the language would be Spanish, for all other user accounts it will be English. Is that possible?

no. those preferences are user specific and every user can access their own international settings without a password. to change the language of OS menus on your account you have to go to international system preferences->language and put the language you need at the top. you can remove all the other languages if they get in the way. then log out/in. is this what you did?

yes. create a new user and in international preferences set language to Spanish and input menu to Spanish.

  • How to copy the International settings from current user to default user/welcome screen on Windows 8.1/ Server 2012R2 via PS script?

    Hi,
I have to script the international settings in virtual machines which are Win Server 2012R2 or Win 8/8.1.
For the current user, it's quite easy.
    new-WinUserLanguageList nl-BE
    set-WinUserLanguageList nl-BE
    Set-WinSystemLocale nl-BE
    set-Culture nl-BE
But how can I copy these settings to the Default user/Welcome screen? I cannot find a solution for that. Even on the site of Microsoft,
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh852115.aspx all CMDlets are only for the current user.
Maybe I'm looking with the wrong keywords, but... With Powershell v4 it should be possible, isn't it?
Thanks for looking together and hopefully we can find an answer.
    Kind reg,
    Dirk

Questions like this would best be answered in the deployment forum.
The default lock screen tracks the current user.  The system lock screen tracks the local system admin account.
There is a SYSTEM profile which, I believe, can be set via registry.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Date format doesn't follow my International settings

In System Preferences > International > Formats, I have set up my date format to be yyyy/mm/dd but the date format options available in Numbers don't include this. Numbers only gives the American mm/dd/yyyy option for an 8-digit date format.
Surely this is a bug? Is there any way to set the formats in Numbers to obey System Preferences?

    Hello
    Two problems in fact.
    - 1 - from what does Numbers grab it's default date format?
I set the International prefPanes to "Long date" with years on four digits but Numbers defaults to 1 déc.07. Here I'm afraid that this is a bug. Maybe one linked to localization.
    - 2 - Numbers offers a menu giving us the ability to change the used format but alas, the ISO format is not available. Here it's not a bug. It seems that they simply ignored this format.
*Go to "Provide Numbers Feedback" in the "Numbers" menu* and describe what you wish.
I already asked Apple about that because it's really surprising that the ISO format (which is the international rule) is not reachable in Numbers.

  • Help with international settings - the menu bar flag is gone!

The flag no longer appears in my menu bar, nor does the "show input menu in the menu bar" check box in the international section of the System Preferences stay checked. I no longer seem able to type in Chinese, which is what I really need to be able to do.
    Help? Thanks!

Hi Crimsoncat and welcome to the forums!
Seems your Chinese has been taken away...
    (Sorry, just could not resist!)
Now for solving your problem! When did this start happening? Have you tried a bit of maintenance, like:
Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.

An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • Universal, international settings for video

    Hello all
    I need some advise.
I work for an international company with offices in 36 countries. When I receive raw video footage (on HDV) here in the US office, my job is to distribute previews of the video to all the offices. If they see something they like, we then coordinate getting the real video to them.
I use Final Cut to ingest the video (making it full sized, broadcast quality, uncompressed, 1920x1080 HD video).
I have a handful of softwares that then compress video - but every time I do, someone always complains that the video won't play on their computer. I've tried mp4; avi; and mov.
My questions is - is there a video format that will:
    * play on any computer (I work on a Mac, but everyone else is on a PC)
    * play in any country (PAL vs. NTSC)
    * has a small enough compression to fit through "dial up" net connections (the Africa offices have bad connections)
    * still have a viewable picture (336x192 is fine - but I need the picture to be clear)
    * be less than 50mb (they're 60:00 files)
    Is this possible???
    Thanks - Gina Jo
PS - at this point in time, Flash is not an option.

Well you've opened a can of worms.
If everyone's playing on a computer, pixel dimensions and frame rate don't matter, so figure out the minimum size and frame rate that's acceptable.
There is no universally compatible format, however almost all webbrowsers on almost all computers will play flash video. You can compress as an h264 file and then change the file extension from mov to flv and embed in a webpage and send people the link. This will require some web programming knowledge, but it isn't that complicated.
As far as free standing files, on the mac, people need to install the free flip4mac plug in for quicktime to play wmv files or you can ask everyone to install the vlc player (available on versiontracker.com).
And on the pc, you can ask everyone to install quicktime player.

  • Changing internal settings on Nokia (6280)

Hi there, I've come from the land of Motorola to the new 6280.
For those people technically oriented, or just game, motorola phones can have a massive amount of factory based configuration changes made by special tools (commonly refered to as SEEM editing).
What is the equivalent tool / process for nokia phones?
e.g., changing default timings etc.. on backlight, screen saver timing etc.. etc..

    Hey,
First of all..I got to congratulate you on joining the good side..Nokia, and leaving the dark side..any other brand!
If this is what you mean, changing basic phone settings, eg:
    Backlite
    Time
    Look/Theme
Go to (on the phone) Menu > Tools > Settings > Phone Settings > General/Standby/Display.
    For Backlite timeout:
Menu > Tools > Settings > Phone Settings > Display > Light time out
    Now just edit it.
    Hope this helps,
    Tal

  • IPhone International Settings for Texting Only

2 International travel questions. My son will be visiting Zambia. There is no Wifi. We want to communicate strictly via text. We'd like to turn off anything on his phone that might generate unwanted data charges EXCEPT for what he'll need to send and receive texts. What needs to be left on?

    Cellular Data: On or Off?
    - Enable 3G: On or Off?
    - Data Roaming: On or Off?
    - Location Services: I'm assuming Off.
All of those can be OFF for regular texting.
All you need to text is the Cellular radio to be on; that is Ariplane Mode turned off.
However if he texts using email  through iMessage, or other Apps like Whatsapp, then those need Cellular Data to be on.
With that, you still need to contact the carrier to see what kind of charges are likely to be applied by texting abroad.

  • No Date/Time or International Settings in Top Toolbar

My computer froze during my work in FCP, so I shutdown, and now everything seems to be running pretty slowly.
The time/date from my toolbar disappeared, and it won't let me put it back. The US flag is also gone. Not to mention, external hard drives will not mount on my desktop.
Nothing like this has happened before in my two years of having my G5. Thanks for anyone's help.

Very strange. I left the computer for a half an hour to see if anyone would reply, and everything seemed to go back to normal. Sorry for that.

  • Setting International settings

    Hey
I work for a third party company and we have some software that is supported across several platforms including MAC. We have come across an issue in 10.5 with people having there prices in $ instead of in £. The software that we use is given a price but no currency is attached to it and we have several users in the UK stating they see $ symbol for prices on our software. However the software knows to pull the info from the local computer. I have had a look at 10.5 and under system preferences -> Format the details have been set accordingly to UK and GBP. Is there anywhere else on the MAC OS that sets this info? As I have had a look through it and I cannot seem to find any other place where this would be set.

Yes thats what I was under the impression of as well as you should not need to set these details twice. I can only assume there is an issue with 10.5. If anyone else can find any other places to find change this it would be most appreciated as I am not an advanced MAC user.

  • Unable to login with Webex Connect and internal VCS simultaneously on Jabber for iPad

Our users have downloaded the Jabber 9.1 client for their iPad, and we have Webex Connect accounts for IM, as well as internal VCS, TMS, Jabber Video accounts, and VCS Expressway. They install the client on the iPad, select corporate accounts, then go into Webex login information. They enter their credentials, go ahead and log into Jabber and see their contacts. On that screen, there is a box that says "set up Voice and video calling" so they click that, then go to Voice and Video calling, but the only thing thye can select is Jabber for Telepresence. They cannot select VCS on this screen, which would let them go into the VCS internal settings, etc. So if they select jabber for Telepresence, it asks for a username and password but that is all...so it's trying to register them to the free Jabber Video cloud. Is there some step we are missing?  We ultimately want our users to be logged in with their Webex Connect accounts for IM, and have the video portion of the Jabber client pointing to our internal VCS Control.

The Data Structure that holds the Accounts, User&Groups information is on the Boot Drive. That Data Structure stays on the Boot Drive and cannot be moved, but you can change the Home Directory references stored in it to point to any other drives nearby. This changes where those files are stored.
Keep in mind that you are specifying EXACTLY where those Home Directories will be stored, and if the names of anything have changed, those Links do not point to the right places any more. (Example: you changed the Home Directory of user Joe to be on the drive named  "Mavrix". Later, you renamed that drive to "Yo", without changing the pointers in User&Groups. Joe can enter his password, and it will be accepted, because the Accounts Directory that holds his password is on the Boot Drive. But Joe's Home Directory files will not be found, and he will get an error message about his Home Directory cannot be located.
If you use a different Boot Drive, it also contains a Data Structure that has Usernames and passwords, and they may not be the same as the one on any other drive.

  • How to change default settings for a video generator?

I'm using a video generator (Lyric Media's Pan Zoom Pro) many times in the same project, and have to change the default settings for each new instance of the generator that I create. I'm wondering if there's any way to change the default settings for a generator (i.e., length of clip, individual slider and checkbox settings in the "controls" tab) so that each new instance automatically has my customized settings when I first open it.
    Thanks.

That works for the all the controls/filter settings. The clip length still defaults to 10 seconds, but that's OK, since the main thing I was looking for was to change the clip's internal settings. Thanks for your help

  • GOT A HP OFFICEJET PRO 8500A PLUS; I MUST RE-ENTER WIRELESS SETTINGS EVRYTIME I USE IT??

I just got an OfficeJet Pro 8500a Plus, on the touchscreen i have to set-up (username and password) the wireless connection to my wireless SSID; and that confirms the connection ok. At that point i can print no problem, scan and fax.
The problem arises when my wireless router fails and restarts, the next time i use my printer it says it is not connected and i must reconfigure from the touch screen again username and password. Is there no way to have these settings entered permanently so if my router resets or whatever i do not have to re-enter all settings? Thanks for the help and hopefully good news.
    Thank you so much

This is strange.  Does the printer ever lose power?
Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). You can change the DHCP range of the router using its internal settings page.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway and first DNS. Leave the second one blank.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
    I am employed by HP

  • Does anyone know how to fix the settings when your your mac doesn't recognize your external speakers?? HELP! I've tried everything.

So, I have a macbook pro.  I used earphones to listen to music and everything worked fine.  A few hours later, after it had been unplugged, I tried to listen to a video and the sound did not work.  I have tried everything.  Rebooted my computer multiple times, reset the PRAM twice, and checked my MIDI setup.  When I go to sound through system preferces, this is what shows up: Output -- Digital out -- optical digital-out port and there is no option for external speakers!  It isn't even showing that I have them!!!  My internal settings are fine.  HELP please!

This is a part of the larger MacBook Pro connectivity issue. There are several related threads dealing with the MBP's networking problems. If your unit is suffering from this type of difficulty, good luck ... (or a long ethernet cable)
(PS Everybody please make noise on this one so apple comes up with a solution.)

  • How do I change the default settings in a printer's Default Settings Preset?

I am running Mavericks, printing to an HP LaserJet 4050N via IP.  [The following behavior takes place whether the printer's internal settings are set to Duplex Printing is On or is Off.]
I would like to set the default to print duplex, whether I am in an application or 'drag and drop' a file onto the printer icon (which temporarily opens the application, prints the document, and quits).
I do not seem to be able to modify the "Default Settings" Preset to specify duplex printing.  However, I have been able to create a new "Default Settings-1" Preset that specifies duplex printing.  By selecting the "Default Settings-1" Preset, in any application, I get duplex printing without any problem.
    First -- problem:
If I drag-and-drop a file -- e.g., .pdf or .docx -- onto the printer icon, it opens the application and uses the "Default Settings" Preset -- not the "Default Settings-1" Preset -- and prints single-sided.  How do I get drag and drop to use the "Default Settings-1" Preset to get duplex printing?
    Second -- issue:
Bizarrely, if I am in an application, select "Show Presets", select "Default Settings-1" and click on "Layout", it sometimes shows that "Two-Sided" printing is "Off" and sometimes that it is set to "Long-Edge Binding" -- but that seems to have no deleterious effect on duplex printing!
Any suggestions / explanations for my problem / issue?
    Thanks much,
    Avi

Other than using the CUPS interface, http://127.0.0.1:631,which it sounds like you've done, I don't think there is a way to edit the Default Settings. The standard approach is to create a preset, the solution you've found.
For drag and drop printing, you should be able to get to the print dialog and select your preset or turn duplex on by holding the option key down, selecting the file, then doing the drag and drop (either to a printer or to an open printer proxy application).
    I realize this isn't a solution, but I hope it's helpful.
