1.1 bug: Import window from Canon XT not sorted by date correclty

This was in 1.0.1 as well. When I first plug my XT in and it goes to import the images, they are not sorted correctly. Clicking on the thumbnail will show that the image dimensions and date/time are that of the the thumbnail, and not the original image. If I close the import panel by clicking on the arrow in the top left, and then click it again to open the import again, it usually sorts the images correctly. If they are sorted wrong, one can't use the auto stack feature by time, because they'll be stacked incorrectly.

Hi,
I reported this bug to Apple and it was marked as a Known Issue. I've also found that opening Image Capture.app before opening Aperture cases the imgaes to be sorted correctly.

Can't import AVCHD from Canon F10 into FinalCutPro 6.0.4 via USB. When opening Log&Transfer in FCP, no files show up (the Log&Transfer window do not seem to recognize the files on the camera). The camera shows up in Finder, though. - Do I need a driver?

sorry, of course USB is available for L&T, I use it every Friday so I should know better, I got two replies mixed up completly so thanks for correcting my mistake.
what I meant to suggest was if the camera does not show in finder or in L&T check the camea menu setting is set to connect to the hard drive and not from the camera or memory card.

    What Tom said.
Or you may be able to import using a different program - try with Quicktime Player, "New Movie Recording". If the camera appears as an option, it should work.

Using 9-4 pin cable and then using firewire 800 to thunderbolt adapter.

Does the MBP see the camera at all?

  • Import files from canon 5Dmark111

Importing footage from canon 5D mark 111, in log and transfer won't allow me to import.  i was advised to first compress footage on compressor, would that render importable files.
maybe won't import because there are some JPEG files amongst the mov files.???

Sorry, log and transfer won't work with the Mark III....the plugin doesn't list it on the supported cameras.  You need to use COMPRESSOR and the ProRes 422 for Progressive presets.

  • Do I need to upgrade both LR 5.7 and Camera Raw 8.7 to import files from Canon 7dMark2?  or is LR 5.7 enough or is camera raw 8.7 enough

Do I need to upgrade both LR 5.7 and Camera Raw 8.7 to import files from Canon 7dMark2?  or is LR 5.7 enough or is camera raw 8.7 enough

Lightroom is a complete stand alone program and does not require you to have any other Adobe product on your computer.
Adobe Camera Raw is a plugin for Photoshop CS and is not require by Lightroom nor is it used by Lightroom.
However if you are using both Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS6 /Photoshop CC and wish them to 100% compatible then you will need to update the ACR Plugin in Photoshop.
Lightroom 5.7 will work fine with your Canon 7dMk2. (Its internal processing engine is the equivalent of ACR 8.7)
To wit LR 5.7 is an alternative to ACR 8.7 Plugin in Photoshop, you do not necessarily need both.

  • Import video from canon eos 550d

What settings should be FCP7 to successfully import .mov from Canon eos 550d?
I would like video without the noise and recoil.
    Tnx

550...that's the T2i, right? Downloading the EOS Log and Transfer plugin, and hacking it, is one way:
    http://lfhd.net/2010/04/04/log-and-transfer-for-canon-dslrs/
Magic Bullet Grinder to convert to ProRes is another:
    http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/products/all/magic-bullet-grinder/
    Or Compressor.
No matter what, you need to convert the footage to ProRes for editing:
    #51 - Canon 5D MkII / Canon 7D footage into FCP
Shane's Stock Answer #51 - how do you bring in footage from the Canon 5D and 7D cameras into FCP to edit?
You need to convert all of the Canon 5D MkII footage from the H.264 format that it records, to ProRes 422 (ProRes HQ is unnecessary...no quality difference) Yes, the file sizes get drastically larger. H.264 is an acquisition and delivery format, not an editing one.
You can use the Canon EOS Log and Transfer plugin that works with the 1D, 5D and 7D cameras. This plugin is great because it brings in the camera's TIME OF DAY as timecode, instead of starting each clip at 00:00:00:00 like Compressor or other conversion software will do.

  • How do I import directly from Canon XA10 with Final Cut X?

How do I import directly from Canon XA10 with Final Cut X?

I have an XA10, and importing is quite simple.  But you do have to make sure your camera is set to the proper settings to allow you to import the files into FCPX.
First, make sure the camera is powered on.  Connect it through the USB connection.  Then open the camera's viewfinder and press the button on the side of the camera that allows you to see the videos you've shot in the viewfinder.  (This toggle button toggles between seeing what the camera is pointed at live and seeing the thumbnails of the video you've already shot that are stored on the internal memory card.)  Now, the camera will present you with a menu asking which memory card you want to look at (there's an internal flash memory card, plus you can insert SD cards as well).  Choose the memory card on which your videos are stored within the camera, and then you'll be good to go.
Now you can go into your FCPX event and do the Import from Camera.  Now the Import from Camera interface will open up and you'll be able to select the XA10, where it will present you with all the videos that are on the camera's memory card that you selected.
From here,  you can select individual videos and import them, or you can set in and out points on videos and just import the parts you want.

  • I-photo:  I used 2 cameras to take pictures on a trip --- i have put the pictures from both cameras into an album --- when i click on view and then sort by date, the pictures do not sort by date --- any ideas on how to get the pics sorted by date?

I-photo:  I used 2 cameras to take pictures on a trip --- i have put the pictures from both cameras into an album --- when i click on view and then sort by date, the pictures do not sort by date --- any ideas on how to get the pics sorted by date?

Select all the photos that you need to change, then click the "Photos" menu and choose "Adjust Date and Time".
If you add a year, it will adjust all the photos that you selected by adding a year (so if you accidentally select one of the photos that already has "2012", that will change to "2013").

  • Preview of CR2 raw files on import window from camera

    Hi
I have this problem with my Canon XTI. When I connect the camera to the computer and open the import dialog window, I can not see the previews of my CR2 raw files. But if I copy the CR2 files to he hard disk and try tho import from it, then previews are shown on the import window.
    Can anybody help me?

Probably because the program is trying to write back a marker to the card as it "opens" the images for the preview and the camera won't let it.
It's not a good idea to import images directly from the camera anyway. Card readers are really cheap - and they WILL let you see the previews.

  • Raw files missing in import direct from canon eos 350D

    Hi,
I realise that files missing for import is fairly common, but I still haven't been able to find a reason. I can load jpg and cr2 from a folder no problem, but when I attach the camera, using the latest canon WIA driver on windows xp, the window that comes up shows only the jpgs on my camera. I realise that a workaround is to get the files on the pc and import from there, but I don't have my canon software anymore to do that, and besides, I'm using the trial version to decide whether or not to buy. Is this a LR problem? a canon one? and is there a fix in the pipeline?
Apart from that, really like the product.
    Many thanks
    Dave

    Dave
There was a problem with version 1.0 about importing JPG's and RAW's because although they have a different suffix i.e. JPG or CR2 they have the same file name. LR, as primarily a RAW converter sees these as one and the same file and only imported the RAW file. The work round for this was to rename the JPG's slightly outside of LR using a name that you could yourself identify with the original RAW e.g. RAW 0000001.crs with the JPG being renamed to 0000001A.JPG followed by Importing. I had thought they had cured this with the update but as I don't shoot JPG + RAW haven't tried this for myself. What's strange about your post though, is that if memory serves me correctly the problem lay not in the Importing of the RAW file but in the JPG file as described above. Perhaps someone with more up to date knowledge of this will jump in here.
The importing directly from the camera I referred to earlier was a known problem with Canon cameras - perhaps something to do with the folder structure although I couldn't swear to it. Hence the reference to using a Card Reader. In any event downloading from a Card Reader is faster as I'm sure you know.
If you right click and explore the Card you'll find that not all of the files are empty. The top folder will be something like DCM and by double clicking on this top folder it will open up the others.

  • How to import video from canon xa10

I can import video file from canon xa-10 camcorder to Final Cut Pro X. Please help.

I have an XA10 and do this all the time.
As Tom said, you just need to connect the camera using the USB cable and then do an "Import from Camera" from within FCPX.
And yes, once you choose which clips (or which portions of clips) you want to import and then close the import window, FCPX has to transcode them.  However, you can begin editing while it is working on transcoding the files.
However, if you disconnect the camera before FCPX has finished the transcode, the media won't be there the next time.  This stuff isn't magic.  It still has to transcode.  The only "magic" of FCPX is that you can start editing the footage before the transcode is complete...assuming, of course, you leave the media connected.
Copying files over first and then trying to import does not work.  You have to do it from the camera.
The difference would be if you were recording to an SD card (which the XA10 will do), instead of the camera's built-in flash memory.  You can disconnect the camera and just connect a card reader (and the card, of course).  But the same principle would apply.  You could start editing while FCPX is transcoding, but don't expect it to all be there if you disconnect the card reader or shut down FCPX before finishing the transcoding process.
    Hope that helps.

  • Error importing photos from Canon G10

I am using Iphoto 08 from one year, I import thousands of photos from my Canon G10 without problem until today.
I imported 25 pictures from different dates, the first import was perfect, the second appears in the beginning and not in the end according to date and when I click in the event I can not see the pictures, an exclamation black symbol appears.
I also tried to move my pictures using finder and I could not.
    Please HELP!

Your database file has been corrupted.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards
    TD

  • Trouble importing RAW from Canon 50D to Lightroom 3.3

I've searched the forum and can't find much reference to this -- I shoot with a Canon 50 in RAW format only.  When I attempt to import from the camera (File -> Import Photos then select Canon EOS 50D as source) into lightroom 3.3 (same with 3.1, 3.2), no photos appear in the import window.
As an experiment, when I changed the format to JPEG, the JPEG photos appeared in the dialog as I would expect.
My operating system is Windows 7 64 and I am using Lightroom 3.3 64-bit version.  In the help menu under the version is says "Camera Raw 6.3"  On the 50D the Raw format is set to "Raw" rather than S-Raw-1 or S-Raw-2.
I am able to import the photos by importing through the Canon utility and then importing those photos into Lightroom.
Any help you can give would be appreciated.  File management is starting to become an issue.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the replies.
First, I don't have a card reader and yes, I probably should get one eventually.  To clarify, import is not slow, it simply does not even attempt to import.  When I connect my 50D with a card full of RAW files, LR detects it but it shows "No Photos Found."  I honestly don't think that it is LR's fault, it really seems like there is some obvious setting I have missed on either my camera or LR.
    Thanks.

  • Import video from CANON LEGRIA HF R18 into adobe premiere elements

    Hallo,
I have a MAC and I don't know how I have to set the project to import videos from my camera.
    Thanks

    jazzandogospelsinger64
As a first pass at this I would transfer the video from the camera to the computer hard drive and from there import that into Premiere Elements 10 Mac with Premiere Elements 10 Mac Get Media/Files and Folder. Under the circumstances your Premiere Elements 10 will perform as a 32 bit application running in the 32 bit compatibility mode of the Mac 64 bit with the limitations of 32 bit. I am an Elements Windows user, but the principles and suggestions that I am about to make should be applicable to your situation. I have gone off track with any Mac specific details be sure to say so. The 32 bit business means that Premiere Elements 10 Mac will not be able to take advantage of all the 64 bit resources as would be the case if you had Premiere Elements 11 Mac running in a Mac 64 bit operating system.
Your Canon HF-R18 FXP would be highest quality 1920 x 1080 with a bitrate of 17 Mbps (megabits per second). I need to confirm if you are recording interlaced video 1920 x 1080 (50i) or 1920 x 1080 p25 (in the progressive mode). From what I have read your audio is Dolby Digital Stereo.
    If 1920 x 1080 (50i, aka 25 interlaced frames per second), then use the Premiere Elements 10 project preset = PAL/AVCHD/Full HD1080i25.
    If 1920 x 1080 (25p, 25 progressive frames per second), then use the Premiere Elements 10 project preset = PAL/DSLR/1080p/DSLR 1080p25.
In either circumstance, when you drag the file from the Media area to the Timeline, do you see a colored line over that content on the Timeline? You should not be seeing a colored line over this content if we have the correct project preset selected. But remember that, each time after you edit that video, it is normal for a red line to appear over it. That is the program telling you that you need to render the Timeline content, one way by pressing the Enter key of the computer main keyboard to get the best possible preview. When the rendering is complete, the red line will turn green. Thereafter, only a red/green indicator system (with all its implications) will exist for letting you know if the program thinks that you are seeing the best possible preview. No more non colored line choice, just red (need) and green (not needed). When you are in the no colored line or green situation, pressing the Enter key will just get you playback of the file in the monitor - no rendering available.
See what that looks like on the Timeline at playback there.
Let us start there and be ready for the next phase "How do I want to export that Timeline?" with all the details associated with that phase to get the best results.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.
