1.1 exceptionally slow?

Is it just me, or has the rendering in 1.1 become far, far slower?
I processed a bat mitzvah shoot yesterday through Aperture (wanted to put 1.1 through its paces.) It was a small job, around 1800 D2x nefs. I found that although the preview images popped up instantly, it would take many seconds before the little "loading" indicator finished, especially if I wanted to zoom the image. Sometimes it would never fully load and I'll need to force-quit Aperture and restart it to view the file.
Despite my many complaints with Aperture, speed was never one of them in 1.0 - although my CPU is on the slow side, I've got gobs of ram and a great videocard, and 1.0 ran quite snappily. Any thoughts on what might be up? Or is 1.1 just a slowpoke?

I have found that the slowdowns typically occur during photo browsing when browsing or searching from a large set of photos (like All Photos). The search window will often take upwards of a few minutes to respond!
I have over 22,000 photos (almost all JPEG), but iPhoto 6 seemed to have no problems going through them/displaying them.
Is there any way to re-build the database or optimize it? It took 20 hours just to import my iPhoto library!

  • Newbie to BT BB - Exceptionally Slow Connection

    Hi,
I've newly joined BT broadband after moving away from TalkTalk. It has now been over 10 days since my broadband has been activated with BT, yet the connection speed is exceptionally slow and well below that I used to get with TalkTalk even on a bad day.
Below are the BT Speed test results for today. Prior to this I was consistently achieving even worse downstream speeds at 256Kbps. If it were not for a one-off power outage at our home on Wednesday causing the router to reboot, it wouldn't have reached the current 444Kbps figure and is likely I'd still be on 256Kbps. I know that my line is capable of achieving far greater speeds because I have been monitoring the hub status frequently since BT took on my broadband..... There was a period of over five hours where I was getting a consistent and stable downstream speed of over 3400Kbps! Please can someone explain the incosistency and rectify the situation so that I get a high yet modest downstream speed that I know my line is capable of?
    Thank you.
Download speedachieved during the test was - 444 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-500 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :800 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 500 Kbps

There have been alot of storms around, it may be that weather cauced your profile to fall, however it should not take long to go back up. The clever folks here on the forum may be able to tell you if something is wrong with your line by looking at your routers config page.
    Post your router stats,
    to do this:
type bthomehub into a webbrowser, if its your first time doing this follow the insturctions it gived u to set a password up, once your in click settings, insert your Password, now click advanced settings, then click broadband then the ADSL tab,

  • Why have I been prompted to refresh when don't remember any problems except slow to open? Don't think I reported this.

Why have I been prompted to refresh when don't remember any problems except slow to open? Don't think I reported this, but need to. It is a huge problem, most times takes >3 min for browser to open! I click on task bar icon and wait. Then right click & choose Moz FF. Eventually 2 screens open. I hope I don't have to refresh to clear this up. TY, Gracie

  • Exceptionally slow download speeds, no answers from company

We upgraded to 75/75 last week. After installing the new router, my husband, who is a network engineer working from home noticed that the download speeds were exceptionally slow, averaging about 1.5 Mbps. Upload speeds were fine. We called customer service last Saturday and were told it was an outage that would be fixed "soon". That was six days ago. Still no fix. He can't work here because the speeds are too slow. While all the customer service reps have been very nice, no one can get us an answer about when, if ever, it will be fixed. Considering calling Comcast. Thoughts? Anyone else having the same issues?

There were some service issues in the northeast today but they were resolved around noonish.   Are you still having the problem? This may all be very basic, especially to your network engineer husband, but.... If you're still having the problem,  are you getting the slow download speeds via wifi or with a hardwired (Ethernet) connection to your router? What results do you get using the Verizon speedtest:  http://my.verizon.com/services/speedtest/ And what results at www.speedtest.net? That additional info may help a fellow user here on the forum suggest where the problem lies and what you might do about it.

    Thank you,

There had been some kind of third-party control for the iBook/PowerBook G4
that could set the fan speeds outside of the default perimeters; but I do not
know of such a thing would work at all in the iMac G4 computers.
shareware ($5) download "G4FanControl for Mac" enables manual fan control
    on PowerBook, iBook G4: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/25043
Reading the ^ comments does not indicate any user reports from iMac G4 users.
The iMac G4 has minimal sensors, the one I've noticed from using a Temperature
Monitor software in mine, is in the SMART sensor for the hard disk drive. This may
not be sufficient for a fan control software to actively change the basic defaults.
The portable PPC computers toward 2005 had more than one sensor in them,
and the G4 iBook/PowerBooks could use a third-party option. The iMac may not.
Since you need the automatic faster speed to be there, in case of necessity
it would not be suitable install a limit controller to force it to remain slow...
The eMac had even less fan control than the iMac G4, it ran faster all the time.
    There may be another answer.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My Mac is exceptionally slow, what can I do?

Ok, heres the story. The day after christmas 2012, December 26 2012, I upgraded my Macbook Pro from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. I originally got the mac in 2010. The upgrade went by fine but after I noticed that the mac was slower than before, it would still function but there would be mild freezes every now and then. I was hoping that this was just the system possibly adjusting to the new software. The slowed performance never went away.
About a three weeks after I upgraded I got a new iphone 4 from att and it was mailed to me by att. When I recieved the iphone 4 I pluged it into my mac and transfered the info from my previous iphone 3gs to the iphone 4, then I put my music on it. I put all my songs in a playlist and then transfered them all onto the iphone at once. I left the mac and iphone sit since it was going to take a while. When I went back to look at the status of the music the mac was froozen and I was unable to get it out of it, I could move the mouse but it was the spinning wheel and I couldn't click on anything or quit or force quit anything. So I manually shut down my mac and started it back up.
From this point on the performance on my mac has been disasterous. With the Mountain Lion still on my mac it took over 20 minutes to start up from restart whether in safe mode, regular boot up, or resetting the NVRAM. Previously if I ever did have to restart my mac it would be able to start up within 5 minutes. Once the mac was running again, around every 5 minutes, almost routinely, the mac would freeze and come out of it after 2-3 minutes. Previously it would never freeze, unless I was running three movies at the same time or something like that. I could almost do nothing on my mac since it was always freezing. When I was finally able to start itunes thing would freeze almost immediately and freeze again almost every 3 minutes, even with everything else quit out of. I could not play any songs off of itunes and it seemed like every minimal task I tried to preform in itunes would severely freeze the mac, it would freeze for anything from opening the itunes store to pluging in the iphone to trying to play a single song. I would have to manually shut down the computer and go through the long reboot process again. After three days of researching what might be wrong (mostly through my iphone since the mac was froozen or taking two minutes to open a single page) I decided to erase everything on my mac and downgrade back to Snow Leopard.
After fully upgrading Snow Leopard, it ran better but it would still freeze often and be hard to operate. The freezes went from every 5 minutes to about every 30-45 minutes. Every now and then I would get lucky and it would take over an hour to freeze, but eventually it would still freeze. Things would get disasterous again when I ran itunes (again). Running itunes 11, the performance went back down to how it was with mountain lion without running itunes. Itunes would be better at running task but it would always freeze randomly every 1-3 minutes, again with everything else quit out of.
I downgraded itunes 11 to itunes 10.7 and things have gotten better, the routine freezings have stopped and now the mac only freezes when itunes is running, but it still severely freezes. I still can't put music on my iphone and the mac overall is still very slow, it took over 4 minutes to finally get to this page (exluding the signing in process).
Can someone please tell me what is wrong with my Macbook? I am currently running Snow Leopard again with itunes 10.7. I am about a week away from completely erasing my iphone and mac and trying to reboot everything again. If that does not work I am going to go get a cheap PC. I just want to be able to listen to music while I'm surfing online again and put my songs on my iphone!

All of that did absolutely nothing. Actually it made things worse.
If you tried every possible solution in the all those links baltwo provided, there is nothing more anyone here can suggest other than waving a wand over the computer or you throwing salt over both shoulders.
Take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.  Let the geniuses there figure it out.  Diagnostic testing is free.

  • Exceptional slow batch operation for Azure Table

I have a VM Medium with an Azure Storage.
    West Europe
    Same Affinity Group
Different storage account for VM and for my application
I noted that today, during the afternoon, my storage became very very slow all of a sudden.
I was happily uploading my batches with the rate of 2 MB/S, and now, suddenly this afternoon, I started to get better than 300KB/S.
I noticed that my network and CPU activity were very low.
I started Fiddler, and seen that my batches of 100 KB approximately took 14 second to upload !
I tested the same program on a VM in a different subscription with different affinity group, the same exact same batch took 200ms approximately.
What can do enjoy my full speed again ? Seems like a mouse is eating the cable of my rack.

    Update :
I eventually it the threshold with a new table, my insert on the other table are starting to take more than 2 seconds to process, and it goes up with time.
So, insert is not constant, but depend on partition's size. Is it normal ?
    Niranjan Nilakantan of Microsoft said
If the key for your logical data model has more than 1 property, you should default to (multiple partitions, multiple rows for each partition).
If the key for your logical data model has only one property, you would default to (multiple partitions, one row per partition).
We have two columns in the key to separate what defines uniqueness(PartitionKey and RowKey) from what defines scalability(just PartitionKey).
In general, write and query times are less affected by how the table is partitioned.  It is affected more by whether you specify the PartitionKey and/or RowKey in the query.

Any ideas why all of a sudden 5.4 is taking forever to import photos? It has been over an hour to import 220 Raw photos off my card. I know it will take a little bit of time, but an hour plus? 5.3 was never this slow. Running on Windows 8.1

    Thanks Rob,
I have tried a number of things including optimizing the catalog etc.
(Unfortunately, LR 5.3 isn't an option as the X-T1 & A7R are only supported by 5.4)
I wondered whether the size or the state of my default catalog was an issue so yesterday, I tried creating a new catalog & importing this same mix of files I was describing above. I inadvertently imported the images to my boot SSD.  That was nice & quick. I was able to easily move the files to the usual storage volume.  The whole process was much smoother.  Going back to my old catalog with its ~300K images and re-opening showed a quicker response than this recent slower than molasses state... (It does make me wonder about my working storage volume which is a 4 x 2TB disk RAID 0 (8TB) array.  It tested out out at ~800MB/sec write & read but perhaps that is acting up?  It's only half full.)
I'm not sure what to think.   I have more experimenting to do but at least I can keep working.  (Maybe I don't need everything in one giant catalog.)
I will report back when I have some possible answers.

  • Brand new macbook very very slow -- etrecheck help!

My brand new macbook pro is just annoyingly slow. lots of spinning rainbow wheel, eternally bouncing icons, uselessly slow search thing. i ran an etrecheck but have no idea what it means. i'm reluctant to go to the genius bar. this is a replacement macbook after the last one i bought required 5 trips to apple store in a month (maybe 12 hours total?) for a variety of problems. i just want this one to work at least half as well as the August 2008 macbook that it replaced... any help would be so appreciated.

  • Acrobat 9.2 & Win 7 x64 Very Slow Printing to Xerox network Printer

I have Win 7 Ultimate x64 and Acrobat 9.2, opening the print dialogue box and trying to print is either exceptionally slow or does not work at all.  I have looked through the forums but cannot find any help, does anybody have any ideas.
    Lenovo T61p
    Xerox 8650MFP
    Win 7 x64 Ultimate

    I feel your pain:
    Windows 7 64-bit
    Xerox 8560MFP - network connected
Acrobat 8 Pro or Acrobat 9 Extended
Problem:  When printing portrait, one blank page is form fed, then on second page prints portrait but in landscape mode, and only on 1/2 page on right side (as if in book mode).
Any other application prints fine,  including Word, Excel, Explorer.  Multiple Xerox drivers have been tried.
Have tried many posted solutions - including changing advanced printer options,  selecting different adobe *.inf installations.
Suffering for over 1 1/2 months.
    Adobe - please resolve!

  • Officejet 7780 slow printing

I have an Officejet 7780 on a wired network with 3 PC's. Printing is exceptionally slow (minutes to print a page of normal type). Any ideas?

Let's try to set a static IP for the printer and configure its DNS reference:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you know what that is, set an IP outside that range but no higher than 254 (the last number in the address). If you do not know this, enter the current IP address.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Mini Controlled by MBP very Slow

    Hi all,
i control my headless Mini with my MBP and sometimes although my wifi is at 7MB up/1.5MB down speeds the respond time for communication from MBP to Mini is exceptionally slow. On Screen Share on the MBP i do something or press a command on the Mini and it takes minutes to respond. Any ideas why? What to look for? Utilities i can track whats happening?
Mini is the MC815B/A model with maximum memory, 8GBs if i remember rightly....

The 2.3GHz model only came with 2GB, so yes it very well could be the lack of RAM.

  • Editing Quiz Extremely Slow in cp2

I am using an Intel core duo pc and trying to build a quiz to
follow a few slides containing flash animations and narration. I am
able to create the slide, however moving things around on the stage
is exceptionally slow, whereas the other slides are still editable
at a reasonable speed. Any suggestions on how to speed this up?
    Thanks
    tt

Thank you for your suggestion. I will keep that information for future reference.
Later, as I worked with other photos in other albums, I found that iPhoto was working great in the other albums.
Then I remembered that the photos that set off the slow editing, I had done some minor editing in PhotoShop and then put them back into iPhoto. As I tried to crop these Photoshopped photos in iPhoto the extremely slow editing began. Technically, I don't know what happened, but they were incompatible.

  • Very, very slow file operations

I needed to make a specific change to an exif field of some images. So what I did was to move identify the files that I needed to change in Lightroom (they were in various folders on my disk) and move them to other folders so they would be easy to operate on. Then I used exiftool to change the field in these files, and then I thought it would be easy to read in the changed data and move them back to their original folders in Lightroom. What I found included:
I tried to Synchronize Metadata on the folders after changing the exif field. One folder had about 500 images in it, the other about 2,000. After 3 hours, the progress bar had barely moved, and I aborted.
When I tried to quit Lightroom it said that it was "writing metadata", even tho the synchronization had changed the external data and it should only have been reading metadata. I quit anyways and rebooted.
After rebooting, and relaunching Lightroom I looked at the "metadata status" column in Grid view. It was (as always, it seems) completely wrong about which files were up to date.
I was able to "read metadata" on these 2,500 images in "only" about an hour or two. Note that I didn't ask Lightroom to update the cached images, only to read the metadata. Reading metadata at 1,000-2,000 images an hour seems exceptionally slow.
Now I am trying to move the files back to their correct folders. I dragged about 1,000 raw images (CR2 + xmp) from one folder to another in Lightroom. Three hours later it is about 50% finished according to the progress bar. I'm going to bed and hope it will finish by the morning. I have to move all the other images as well, but because Lightroom won't update the filter bars in Grid View while moving files, I can't start these moves until Lightroom finishes the first.
Do other people fine absolutely absurd speeds for file operations in Lightroom? Is there any solution other than quitting and rebooting (which doesn't always work)? I hate to quit in the middle of a synchronize, read metadata, or move files operation even when it seems to be barely chugging along, because I am afraid that when I abort the operation, I will somehow leave a file orphaned, or it's metadata out of sync (which happens to me all the time, but I never know why).
When I am doing other operations I also find that I can use Lightroom for only a few hours before it gets so slow that I quit and reboot, after which operations speed up considerably. This doesn't seem like it should be necessary for a "modern" program and operating system, but in my experience it is.
I'm using a Macintosh (4 core i7, 16 GB of RAM), Mavericks latest, Lightroom 5.5, and a RAID disk, so hardware shouldn't be limiting. During this last interminable copy operation, it appears that Lightroom is pegged at 100% of a processor (core).

Sorry, but I don't think your workaround works. I am moving a bunch of files from one folder to various folders (using Lightroom to discriminate between files based on their exif/iptc values), then I change them using an outside program (exiftool), then I put them back in their original folders. This involves having Lightroom read in the new data in the files, which is what is so slow. Reconnecting, if I understand it, is for when you move a folder of files to another location, and Lightroom needs to be informed of that move.
As I pointed out, the problem is that Lightroom gets progressively and painfully slower the more you use it. But quitting and restarting can be annoying if you are in the middle of an operation because you can lose context (especially if you restart your computer, which seems to help).
And I do optimize my database nearly daily when using Lightroom.
I would spend the time to fully document this problem and report it as a bug, but my experience is that Adobe shows no evidence of actually reading my bug reports, let alone responding to them.
