1+1 Port Protection on OC-n on ONS-15454

I have a delima. When we setup the 1+1 protection, one node was a at Ver. 6.x and the other node was at ver 4.x and there were two different entities were doing the provisioning. The provisioning ended up being crossed over, no APS invalid errors came up until we U/G to Ver. 8.5. I have traffic provisioned on what is my Working side. Is there a way to reprovision the 1+1 without deleting the traffic? Or will I need to just move the fibers?

You should take a look at the "Bridge and Roll" feature to see if your current circuit configuration would be supported:

  • Port protected on trunk ports

I have a router to a 3550 switch feeding in a star toplogy one 2950 off each port.  I have port protprected on the ports of each of the 2950s.  The question is can I do port protected on all my trunk ports except the uplink port on the 3550?  I am wanting to stop any user on the network from seeing another.  My other option is to do a vlan per switch but would perfer not to bring down the network as it is already live and in heavy usage.
Thank you for your help in advance.

Yes, you can enable protected mode on trunk ports
    Configuring Protected Ports
Some applications require that no traffic be forwarded between ports on the same switch so that one neighbor does not see the traffic generated by another neighbor. In such an environment, the use of protected ports ensures that there is no exchange of unicast, broadcast, or multicast traffic between these ports on the switch.
    Protected ports have these features:
•A protected port does not forward any traffic (unicast, multicast, or broadcast) to any other port that is also a protected port. Data traffic cannot be forwarded between protected ports at Layer 2; only control traffic, such as PIM packets, is forwarded because these packets are processed by the CPU and forwarded in software. All data traffic passing between protected ports must be forwarded through a Layer 3 device.
•Forwarding behavior between a protected port and a nonprotected port proceeds as usual.
•Protected ports are supported on 802.1Q trunks.

  • Macbook Pro hardshell with port / input output port protection?

    Dear All,
This is my first post. Just a recently bought the 2012 Unibody (non-retina) 15" MBP Pro antiglare to replace my aging 2008 black MB.
Throughout all my months (and perhaps years) of looking at cases, shell cases etc - I find it quite surprising that there's no hardshells out there that also protects the Input / Output / ports on the side as well as the DVD drive entry?
My 2008 MB has accumulated so much dirt in the input output connectors over the years of use even with reasonable/adequate care, surely there is at least a port protection kit there somewhere on the net that someone has seen before?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

19 views so far and no replies. Maybe no one cared about cleaning and protecting their connector ports after all?

  • 1:1 Card Protection ONS 15454

    Hi All,
I am trying to understand the reason why the protect card/port shouldn't be in OOS(Out of service) to avoid any traffic loss even though the protect card is not switching traffic in ONS 15454 as stated below
"When a protection switch moves traffic from the DS3-12 working/active card to the DS3-12 protect/standby card, ports
on the new active/standby card cannot be taken out of service as long as traffic is switched. Lost traffic can result
when a port is taken out of service even if the DS3-12 standby card no longer carries traffic."
    Thanking You

  • IPhone 3g headphone & dock port protection

I'm looking for some silicon/hard plugs for the headphone jack and dock ports - does anyone know where I can get these? I know you can get them with the iSkin but I already have a case and just want the extra plugs, if they're available.
    Thanks.

The SwitchEasy colors cases include plugs for the headphone jack and docking connector, look great, are inexpensive, come with extra screen protectors.
I own several, and highly recommend these cases.

  • Using UDC port on ONS 15454 M6

    Hello,
Two pc/router is connected to udc ports (both left side on 15454 M6 and pcs/routers have ip addr in same subnet). The 10g link is up between nodes.
I'm using straight cables. But pcs cannot ping each other.
What i need to do else to resolve the issue?
And how can i check udc ports are failed or not?
ps: both nodes dont have any alarm.
    Thank you in advance

UDC is terminating with OSC, so it's just point to point, also left UDC port will talk only to left.
so to answer your question, it will not provide connectivity to all PCs.
i'm pasting one reply of mine, please let me know if it helps.
    Here is some basic info,
So every ECU (External connection Unit) has two UDC ports,
UDC port on left side is related to TNC at slot-1,
UDC port on right side is related to TNC at slot-8.
To provision this you have to double click on TNC card at node view, go to Provisioning – UDC/VOIP – select UDC – apply.
So UDC uses payload of STM-1/OC3.
STM1/OC3 is used in MSTP system for OSC (Optical Supervisory Channel), only DCC bytes are used for OSC, here we are using payload for UDC.
So if you have UDC provisioned, and you connect your laptop on UDC LAN port at Node-A and connect you other laptop on UDC port at node-B you are able to ping both of your laptops J
You will get a BW of 100Mbps.
But remember UDC left port should talk with UDC left port at other end.
also here is link for more information:

  • STM1-to-E1s

I have 8 ports STM card installed in my ONS 15454, a customer want to connect central site to 3 remote sites. The connection between the customer and us is on optical STM1 connecting to port 1 on ONS. The three other sites will share this STM1 in this ratio Site1-30E1, Site2-18E1 and Site3-15E1. All I have on the ONS is this 8-ports STM1(OC3IR-STM1SH-1310-8). All the remote site are connected using optical. Will this solution be achievable without using any other cards?

I am not clear on the network configuration.
Is your 454 connected to 4 customer sites using an STM1 link for each (total 4 STM1 links)? Or is your 454 connected to 1 customer site using one STM1 link and the customer is then connecting to the other 3 sites using STM1 links?
Sorry for the lack of a good response.

  • Recomended PowerBook protection products?

Just ordered my first Mac last week: a 15" PowerBook. I plan on treating this like my baby and want to give it all the protection it needs to last and stay healthy & clean. I'd love to get any advice, experience, and recommendations you can share with me in that regard.
Here are some of the specific types of protection I've been looking at, but I'd value any other suggestions, too:
Cable lock: From what I've read, it is best to go with a combo lock because the key locks are easy to pick. But a lot of the best rated combo locks I've found are so thick, they look like they'd interfere with the nearby power jack on the PowerBook. In fact, the people at PC Guardian admitted as much to me about their product. Does anyone have a PowerBook with a combo lock that fits that they would recommend?
Keyboard protection: I am especially interested in this type of product as I will be doing a lot of work in a restaurant environment (and probably the occasional coffee house) and I deeply fear having something spill on that beuatiful backlit keyboard. The only product I've found is the iSkin (below), but users at the Apple store have scared me away from it with some of their reviews (especially reports that it marks the screen... granted I could just remove it when closing). Can anyone give me advice on this?
    http://www.iskin.com/protouch_PB1.html
Screen protection: I use screen protectors religiously on my Treo and my digital camera and they work great. So I'm thinking I can get the same benefits from a similar protector for my PB. Of course, the Treo & camera do not have very high resolution screens, so I'm inclined to wonder if such a film would be more noticable on the high-res PB screen? Is this recommended by any users? Any advice on this or similar products?
    http://www.macheaven.co.uk/?page=prodde … ;prod=1086
Screen/keyboard/wrist-rest protection: I have read a lot about the wrist rest getting dirty and fingerprints transferring to the screen from the keyboard when the PB is closed. These must be an issue to some degree, as I've found more than one product addressing this (examples below). Is this hightly recomended? Any advice on this or similar products?
    http://www.welovemacs.com/icpb215mssl.html
    http://www.drbott.com/prod/db.lasso?code=5478-MDPP
Port protection: This seems like a good idea in general, especially in the aforementioned restaurant environment. Any experience or comments you have on this product?
    http://www.radtech.us/Products/Portectorz.aspx#
Cooling products: Much is made about keeping laptops of both the PC & Mac variety cool. I've had PC laptops issued to me by employers before and never had a cooling problem; but I've been given the impression that a Mac PB runs hotter (is that even true?). I will be using the PB daily, often for hours at a time. Any recomendations or thoughts about cooling products like these?

A big thanks to all who respond.
(if you noticed it... plz forgive X-post)

I have a Kensington combo lock which works just fine although on my 15' PB the lock slot is on the right hand side at the front, I dont know if it is different on the newer models. I also fitted a radtech(???) protector sheet that goes between the keyboard and the screen when the lid is shut, this seems to stop screen marking, also cleaning the case/screen often with IKlear or similar seems to build up a protection layer and stop marking, and a company called matias do nice hard briefcase style cases which esp in my case seem to put up with a lot of abuse!!
    Hope this helps

  • Y cable protection 15454 MSTP 9.1

    Dear all,
Would you please comment the following (in brakets are numbers of sections of the document "Cisco ONS 15454 DWDM Reference Manual, Release 9.1", http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/optical/15000r9_1/dwdm/reference/guide/454d91_ref.html):
Issues with Y-cable protection (10.18 Y-Cable and Splitter Protection):
    - In a MXP_MR_10DME card provisioned with Y-Cable protection, if a failure is detected on the active path, the traffic is switched to the protect card. In the process of performing the switch operation, the actual end-to-end traffic is affected for up to 15-20 seconds.
    - There is a traffic hit of upto a couple hundred milliseconds on the MXP_MR_2.5G and MXP_MR_10DME cards in Y-cable configuration when a fiber cut or SFP failure occurs on one of the client ports.
So does the switchover takes "up to 15-20 seconds" or it takes "couple hundred milliseconds"?
Do you have experience with y-cable protection on "OTU2-XP" cards - how much time it takes for switchover?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mladen

The way I read the statements is the length of the outage will depend on where the outage occurs in the network.
If their is a cable break in the network between the 15454 nodes, then the outage could be 15-20 seconds.
If the failure is between the 15454 card and the client port, then the outage will be a couple of hundred milliseconds.
I do not have experience with the OTU2 cards.

You configure Layer 3 Mobility with WLSM. No trunking is required on the CAT switch. However, you need to set the switch port on the CAT switch as access port in VLAN 10.
Please post the WLSM and SUP720 configuration. Also, which VLAN do you want to access the AP?
The following URL may be useful for you to verify the configuration:

  • How to delete the protection path of a SCNP configured E1/T1?

I have a ONS 15454 nodes Ring. All E1/T1 links are configured in SNCP mode. Now I wanna change one of them to be unprotected without interrupting connection. How can I delete the protection path?

An enduser presents a certificate from a CAC for authentication to our website.
They pick the Cert off the inserted CAC and submit it. Get logged into the application successfully.
The user removes the card form the reader and the SSO session times out.
In the same browser the user clicks log in with CAC and is not prompted for the cert this time the browser just goes ahead and presents the cached cert even though the card is no longer in the reader. The user logs in successfully.
The desired behavior would be to prompt the user for for a cert again obviously.
I am wondering how to turn this off as well.

  • How to port my Firefox settings to a different computer?

I am going to get a new computer. How do I to port all my settings, bookmarks, add-ons, i.e. my Firefox environment to the new computer?

If it's a simple change of drive letter and everything is still in the same folder hierarchy the easiest way is to right click on the topmost folder in your Folders panel.  From the menu choose Update Folder Location... and point to the folder on the O: drive. LR should bring everything back in line. If you have a few "top" folders then repeat that process for each.
UPDATED: Sorry. That answer works in Version 2.x. I'm not sure how you would do this in 1.4.1. Hopefully someone has that answer. I'll leave this here though in case someone has the same issue in 2.x

  • Working and Protect Paths

Running a 17 node ONS-15454, UPSR Ring with Software ver. 6.0.3.
Why is it that when viewing or editing some circuits you do not see a Protect Path? On most circuits, you see a green working path and the purple protect path. We occasionally see circuits that have no protect path, only a green path that travels the entire ring. We can manually force to protect, which then clearly defines the protect path, but when we "Clear" the Switch State it reverts back to showing no protect path.
Why would these few circuits not have a defined protect path that shows up in the circuit details? Was there a problem when the circuit was originally created?

    Curt,
When a UPSR circuit is created, CTC evaluates the available receive paths at each end of the circuit and will select the best available path as its primary path.
In the Circuit edit screen any path that has a working direction on it will be shown in green while a protect is shown in purple.
When you are seeing Green on both sides of the ring, this is an indication that the receivers for each side are using opposite paths.
If you have reversion enabled, the default path of the circuit will be restored after the hold down timer for the UPSR switch has cleared.
If you are concerned about keeping all traffic on one side of a ring, when you create the circuit you can select the "Provision working go & return on Primary path" option under the UPSR box of the Circuit Creation wizard.

  • IP DWDM Port Compatibility

    Hi
We Work in the network that it is based on ONS 15454  for "Transmission".
we used 15454-M-10X10G-LC card for 10G transmission network.
In the client side, Can we connect the client Ports of this card directly to the ws_x6704 Ports ? are there compatible or not ?
    with best regards

I feel you can change the port range from 52000 to 61000 as this port range is assigned for client applications to connect to a server on a dedicated port .
Check by changing the range . If that works it should be fine, as you will not have 9000 client applications connecting to a sever from the system .
