1.33 ghz hard drive capacity?

I just purchased a 1.33ghz powerbook and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what the maximum hd capacity is. it comes with an 80gb, but I would like to switch it out with a larger one. i'd also like to know any reccomendations as to which kind to buy. thanks.

There is now a 160GB from Seagate. I have one in my Pb 17 1GHz. See:

If you feel confident, you can do it yourself.
If not, Apple can do it for the small matter of money.
    If you go to http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
Find you Mac on this page it has videos that show you how to replace the disk drive.
After you view the video then you can make your mind up as to which is the correct way for you to go.

  • How do I find out what my total hard drive capacity is?

    Hello, everybody!
    My name is Evelyn Harvey.
I know that I am probably overlooking something obvious, but I hope that you all will bear with me!
I have noticed that when I click on the "waste paper basket", it tells me items are in the trash, and  how many GB worth of stuff is in the trash, and how much free space (rounded off to the nearest tenth of a gigabyte, I believe), is still available on my hard drive.
What I can't seem to find out is, what is the theoretical total storage capacity of my hard drive?  That is to say, how much space would there be if I didn't have any software or files on my hard drive at all?  I know that they probably told me that when I first bought this particular iMac, but I do not remember now.
The reason why I want to know this, is because I want to find out what per centage of my total hard drive capacity is currently being used!  There must be a way -- an easy way -- to find that out.  Mustn't there?
    Thanks in advance!
    Evelyn Harvey

Select the hard drive's icon on your Desktop. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the upper section you will see the information for capacity, available, and used.

  • Hard Drive Capacity not Changing after moving files

My internal hard drive capacity is shown at 249.58 GB and I only had about 1.97 GB available. I moved 122.89 GB of photos to an external hard drive partition plus many seldom used files and folders (not sure of the MB or GB size). Now my hard drive capacity shows 249.58 GB size with 2.36 GB available.
Having moved more that 122.89 GB off my internal hard, why do I not have at least 122 GB available because I moved the photos to free up that space on my internal hard drive?
How can I regain that space the photos used and/or why can't I regain it?
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
    Vernon

After posting the previous message, I remembered that I had not emptied the trash So, that is in the process of happening now since I copied the photos to the external drive and moved them from my internal hd to trash!
I'll check on iPhoto's trash later.
    Thanks.

  • Is it possible to increase the internal hard drive capacity of my 500GB time capsule?

I have a 500GB time capsule bought 2008.  I am now backing up two laptops to it, a macbook pro and a macbook.  It is likely that soon their combined data will outstrip the capacity of the time capsule.  (I increased the internal hard drive capacity on the macbook recently to 640GB).
Is it possible to add to the internal hard drive capacity of the time capsule?  If so, do I just source extra capacity from a third party supplier as I did for the new hard drive for the macbook?
    Any experience or advice appreciated.

It's possible to pull the hard drive from the Time Capsule case and replace it with a larger capacity drive, but you might want to keep in mind that since Time Machine will "see" this as a "new" drive, it will make a complete backup of both computers to start and then backup incrementally after that.
If you were thinking of transferring the existing data on the 500 GB drive, that is possible as well.
But, you will not be able to tell Time Machine to simply continue backups to those same files. For that reason, it might make sense to look for a separate drive enclosure to install the "old" drive in case you need access to your older Time Machine backups.
After a few months, you may decide that you really don't need all the old Time Machine backups on the old driive and you may decide to simply erase the drive and use it as a spare.

  • Where is my Hard Drive capacity...

I bought a MacBook last week and I haven't put anything on here except Windows Vista so I partitioned 32GB for that. Now I don't have the partitioned windows and and my capacity went from 232.89GB to 200.88 GB where is my other 32GB, and how do I get it back?
    Thanks - Andrew
P.S. I wouldn't mind doing a whole system reset (or something) I just need to know how.

Harddrives are interesting. And I don't know why or how to explain it, but on every device, brand new, you'll never have the "full" amount listed. Take an iPod for example. My 8 GB touch brand new said it had something like 7.1 GB available. My 4 GB flash drive has a capacity of 3.81 GBs.
FOund this to help you out. It gets techy and I don't really get it, I just accept it.
"Q. My hard drive capacity is less than I expected?
    A. All hard drive manufacturers use a slightly different yardstick of measurement than your computer does. The hardware industry measures disk capacity as 1GB equals 1,000,000,000 bytes.
Computers calculate disk drive capacity as 1GB equals 1,073,741,824 bytes.
If you take your hard drive size and divide it by 1074 rounding up you will get the approx. size in Gigabytes available on the computer. A quick way you can confirm this is by checking your local hard drive capacity. If you have a 120GB hard drive locally it will show up as 111GB. A 30GB hard drive shows up as 27.8GB. Likewise a 500GB drive shows up as 465GB. etc. For more information on this visit www.wdc.com or www.maxtor.com or www.seagate.com."
So doing that math a 250 GB HD should have a capacity somewhere around 232.88, which sounds just on par with what you get (remember the math is a rough estimate)
I checked my hard drive (250 GB) and capacity is listed as 232.57 GBs

  • Macintosh Hard Drive capacity less than its supposed to be?

    Hello.
I just bought a Macbook pro 13" (2010) and I noticed that for example a file that on a dvd a usb or a pc hard drive is 700 MB, when I transfer it to my Macbook Pro's HD it suddenly takes around 735 MB. It happens with all the files so far that Iv transfered so far.
Also I noticed that if I'm going to burn a folder from my Mac HD that apparently weights, for example 1000 MB, to a dvd, when I actually burn it it ends ups weighting only about 900 MB on the DVD.
*It seems that files on my Mac HD weight more that they actually do, thus it seems as if the 250 Gygas my HD has are actully just like 200 Gygas.**
Is this normal, does it also happen to you guys??
    Thanks.

    Hi DanielSarmiento,
It sounds like it's the whole 1024MB = 1.0GB differential, aka base 10.

I am interested in purchasing a Western Digital WD Scorpio Black 750 GB SATA 3 GB/s 7200 RPM 16 MB Cache Internal Bulk/OEM 2.5-Inch Mobile Hard Drive for my MacBook Pro. I've never looked inside one of these things and I'm not sure if I can do it or not. How much space does it have for a hard drive...can I add another one? Is RAM another addition that will increase performance? I'm looking to optimize my Macbook Pro for professional use of Logic Pro and ProTools in the future. I know audio, but I'm just learning the intricacies of computer hardware. I'm being very cautious that I understand everything I do because I don't want to screw anything up. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

  • Hard Drive Capacity Issue -- 51 GBs missing btwn utilized and avail space

    I have a 200MB internal hard drive.
    My SYSTEM PROFILER states:
Capacity=185.99GB (which I understand due to system use, etc)
    Available= 26.25 GB (odd)
This available space reading seemed odd as I don't have much data on the HD (transferred files using Migration Assistant from a 80gb, 1.67ghz older G4 laptop).
So I went to the ACTIVITY MONITOR and looked at DISK USAGE at it states:
    Space Utilized= 99.14 GB
    Space Free= 25.85 GB
With a total of 124.99 GB between the two (the adjacent pie chart total)
MY QUESTION: If I have a HD with a capacity of 185.99 GB, with only 99.14 GB utilized, why is the space free missing 51 GBs? Where did this memory space go?
Note: I have never partitioned the Hard Drive or created any sort of RAM Disk.
    Anyone? Please help.

    UPDATE BUT STILL NO ANSWER:
Ran DISK UTILITY which fixed some minor errors and how states "Volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK"
But the issue remains - I have a 200GB hard drive but the data at the bottom of this utility reads:
    Capacity : 186.0 GB (199,705,673,728 Bytes)
    Available : 26.3 GB (28,291,375,104 Bytes)
    Used : 98.6 GB (105,916,047,360 Bytes)
    Number of Folders: 173,085
    Number of Files: 886,070
HOW CAN I ONLY HAVE 26.3GB available when I have only used 98.6GB of 186GB = Should be a 87.4 GB balance available, not 26.3 GB, right????????
What is the deal here? Is this related to MobileMe or iPhone issue maybe?
The hardware start-up test and disk utility test are all clean. Someone? Anyone?
    Thanks!

  • How do I find my external hard drive capacity?

I've just bought a Brand New Western Digital 1TB My Book Pro Hard Drive.
However, now that it's hooked up when I look at it 'Get Info' it tells me the following
    Capacity 465.75 GB
    Avaliable 421.57 GB
    Used 44.18 GB
This doesn't look right to me - How can I verify the Hard Drive I've bought actually has 1TB of space?

    Hi,
looks to me that the two HDs inside your 1TB are setup as a mirrored RAID, so that the actual size is 500GB (whic actual is 488GB).
Together with the drive you should have a CD where you can find some sort maintenance application.
Have a look inside the manual for the Drive at how to change it from a 'mirrored 500GB' to a 1GB Drive.
    regards

  • Maximum hard drive capacity f or hp dv8

I have a HP DV8 with 2 320GB hard drives. I would like to put 2 750 GB WD Black Scorpio drives in the PC. Is this possible?
What is the maximum capacity for this laptop? Thanks.

The problem is the enclosure. The older FireWire to
ATA chip-sets had the 128 GByte limit. Newer ones
don't. Maybe there is a firmware update for the
    enclosure.
If there's no firmware update for your enclosure and you decide to buy another one, ones with the Oxford 911 chipset are limited to 128 GB, ones with the Oxford 911+ or higher support drives of larger capacities.
There are other ATA to Firewire chipsets out there, but the Oxfords are generally the most reliable.

  • How can increase total hard drive capacity?????

I just got an apple 750gb Sata internal hard drive. I wanted to add the 750 gb to the original hard drive because i'm running out of space. By mistake I used that 750gb as the time machine hard drive. How can I erased the time machine and used the brand new 750 Gb sata as an add on to increase the total capacity of my computer.
    Thanks
    Divi

You can't "add" one drive to another. You have to create your RAID which deletes current data. Then copy/restore files.
And anytime you want to create a RAID, use the same make and model drives.
Usually using one drive for OS/Apps and 2nd drive for scratch, 3rd for data is a good start. Then put your RAID in an external setup for such purposes or for a larger multi-drive scratch array.
You can hood up 6 drives before you have to get into a $200 RAID controller.
RAID is one of the most common topic of threads.

  • How to find where all hard drive capacity has gone?

My hard drive has a capacity for 75GB. Whe I click Get Info - it says I have used 52.9 GB but when I Get Info for all the Directories on the hard drive (Applications, Library, System, Users) it shows 25.1 GB has been used. How can I can I find where the oher stealth 21.8GB are? (note: my PowerPC G5 does not have this problem). Thanks

    Eric:
Whatever you do, don't move or remove any hidden files; instead, just look there and do Get Info's as necessary or desired, okay? These are critical files and are hidden to preclude them from being moved, etc. If an errant file is found, there are other ways to remove it if necessary...
With the hidden files/folders option selected in OnyX, do a Get Info on /private/var/vm/ at the root level of your hard drive. This will tell you the size of the virtual memory/swap files, which should be well under 1 GB.
Regarding Backup, have you ever had a backup scheduled without the external drive mounted as the target volume, or perhaps a failed attempt to backup to the external drive? If so, you may have a "false backup" hidden on your startup drive. If you think that this has happened, please advise. This could also occur while using Disk Utility's Restore option, CarbonCopyCloner, SuperDuper, etc.

  • Equium A210-171 - Maximum hard drive capacity?

What is the max capacity hard drive the equium a210-171 can take?

    Hi turboiwan,
As far as I know Equium A210-171 has already SATA interface for HDD so you can install every HDD with this interface because on SATA standard are no capacity limits. That means 500GB HDDs or more would work.
For example I upgraded my notebook with 500GB Western Digital HDD and this worked great.

  • 3 TB Internal hard drive capacity mismatch

I installed a third hard drive in my pavilion 8160 (P5LP-LE (Leonite2)) but of the 3T volume, Windows 7 (64) recognized only 750 GB of it. The Bios did correctly report the 3T capacity of the WD drive but not Windows 7. Any help is welcome.

    Hi:
You have to format the 3 TB HDD in GPT in order for Windows to see and use all 3 TB in one partition.
Please see this HP white paper regarding drives larger than 2 GB in capacity for further info.
While it is written for HP business desktops it is germane to all PC's.
