1/4 inch to USB and XLR to USB

am i able to use a usb hub and connect 24 or more usb cables connected to mic's ax's and non midi devices to record? you know so i have a diffrent input to each channel? i have not yet rec the software but will have it in a week. want to know what else to get.
i cannot find an answer anywhere.

what you are looking for is called an Audio Interface.
They come in the PCI, Firewire, and USB varieties. I recommend using firewire if you have an open fw port.
Do some research on Audio Interfaces to see which suits your needs best--if you are looking for 24 channels of I/O, then get ready to spend a good dollar. And if you are talking about 24 channels of Mic pre, then get ready to spend more.
Consider the options given, there are some great sub-$1000 setups.
Good Luck.

  • Is there an easier way to transfer your iTunes library on windows to a mac than copying the library to a usb and plugging the usb into the mac and put the library in the iTunes file

is there an easier way to transfer your iTunes library on windows to a mac than copying the library to a usb and plugging the usb into the mac and put the library in the iTunes file? I recently swapped to Mac and this is how i moved the library from windows to mac and library is in tact but is there an easier way? My cousin just imported her cd's again, but it was harder for me as i have an ipod with over 150 apps and i needed to move them. i think it would be helpful if i knew of an easier way so i can help a friend move his. Thanks

The general method of use is to download a script (double-click or right-click and use Download or Save As...) to a folder of your choice, e.g. your Desktop, Downloads folder or create a folder at ...\iTunes\Scripts. Select a playlist or highlight some tracks in iTunes and then double-click on the script to execute it. If no specific tracks are selected the script will try to work with all tracks in the current playlist or sometimes the entire library.

  • Shure X2U usb adapter (XLR to USB) for microphones - very low volume

I've just bought a Shure Sm57 and X2U usb adapter - however when I plug it into Garageband there are no level controls (understandably) but even with full gain turned up on the adapter the levels are so low as to be unusable. I need to be right on top of the mic for any pick up (about three or four green lights on the bar) and as soon as I turn my head or go more than two inches from the mic, everything drops off.
I've tried the mic with a stereo adapter and put it through my Griffin iMic and seem to have similar problems, but when hooking the mic up to a proper pre-amp kit on a stage, the sound was delicious!
Anyone using one of these adapters, anyone with a problem?
Do I need some sort of powered pre-amp? I doubt it the manual advises just to plug it straight into the USB.
I'm running 10.5.7 so no need to run the drivers (they wouldn't let me anyway!)
    Help!

OK - the replacement SM58 microphone, with a new usb arrived.
I've set it up - this time putting a pair of headphones into the monitor jack of the USB adapter - and the pick up over the monitor is amazing, I can be about two feet away, talking quietly and it picks up everything - a little bit of background hiss, but this can be reduced by adjusting the monitor and volume dials.
Plugged into my mac is a different matter - the pick up is still negligible - very low, and with no controls.
Checked in Sys Pref Sounds and in GB - the levels are so low as to be unusable - unless I sit an inch away from the mic.
This is with the gain dial of the USB adapter turned up quite high - possibly 8 or 9 out of 10.
I'm thinking now the problem lies with the Mac side of things - I wonder if the drivers are doing what they are supposed to do.

    riyazfrombangalore,
your 13-inch Mid 2009 MacBook Pro requires 1066 MHz RAM, but you have 1333 MHz RAM installed. Try replacing the 1333 MHz RAM with 1066 MHz RAM — Macs can be picky about the RAM which they find acceptable.

  • Macbook pro 17 inch primo 2011 and thunderbolt display crashes

I have a Macbook pro 17 inch primo 2011 and thunderbolt display which has recently started to crash.
Only modifications I have doen lately is I swapped the CD/DVD drive for a harddrive and put in 16 GB of ram
but it has been running for more than a month with these hardware additions without problems.
Today my Macbook has started to crash frequently within 10 min to 1 hour after plugging in my thunderbolt display.
I tried to check CPU heat, change RAM but it keps crashing.
When it crashes it either gives me a blue screen, a black screen or a distorts everythings and freeze up.
When rebooting I have to press Command-Option-P-R to clear NVRAM / PRAM.
I found a few support threads from people having similar problems so I started to disconnect the thunderbolt display
and without plugging it in my laptop works fine.
I have done a SMC reset also but that has not resolved my issue.
Below is the crash report and if anybody has any suggestions what to do to resolve this please let me know
My thunderbolt display was purchased in late 2011
If this is not solveable what options do I have ?
    Thanks !

The other day I got the blue screen, the fan going on high, and then when I disconnect my thunderbolt connection from my macbook pro - i get a shutdown.
Today I got flickering followed by the fan on high and then again I disconneced my thunderbolt cable and after a minute or two a shudown.
This never happened before.  Actually I was suprised to hear about a firmware update for flickering since that's never happened to me but since updating I now get the flicker.
Any ideas??  Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my work labtop.

  • I've bought an USB-to-ethernet-adapter and a minidisplay-port-to-VGA-adapter. But I can't use them at same time. At first, I plugged those two adapters and only the USB-to-ethernet worked. Tried restarting the mac then only VGA adapter worked.

    I'm using new 13-inch MacBook Air early 2015. OS X 10.10.3.

Thanks Malcolm - Do you think it might be worth trying to flash the firmware on these cases - there seem to be updaters available on Prolific's website. Obviously I'd have to do it on a PC. I've emailed Prolific asking them about my problem. No reply as yet, and I'm not holding my breath! Do you know if there are any other posts on these boards relating to Prolific? Stupid question really - I'll just do a search...
Thanks again for your post. Cheers from Bonnie Scotland.

  • Is this device [Shure X2u XLR-to-USB] suitable for me?

I have a Samson's Q4 XLR mike and hope to record my songs while hearing the music tracks. I have the need for an preamp which can also connect the XLR to the powered USB port on my Mac. In this context I have found this: Shure X2u XLR-to-USB.
Upon reading the reviews, I found one post which states that you cannot hear the music track when you are recording. I am giving the review I have read:
    "By Zeph-5qDec
    from Maryland
    Follow me
Comments about Shure X2u XLR-to-USB Microphone Adapter:
... it seems to only allow 'monitoring' through headphones. Just plugging it into your computer and microphone will record fine but you can't hear the sound while you're recording. That's why it only gets 4 stars instead of 5."
    I would like members who happen to be Shure X2u XLR-to-USB  users, to let me know whether this review given on 9/26/2010 still holds good;
If this device, even as of now, has this 'deficiency' then it would not be meeting this need of mine: I just have to hear the music track playing when I sing.
Is there any other device in the market which will be able to meet this particular need of mine?

Thanks for this response over which you have evidently spent a lot of your time.
I feel that for a gadget priced at that range, one should be able to hear the audio playback while recording. I guess that the review was given without full assurance since it contains this shadow of doubt: ' it seems to only allow 'monitoring' through headphones'.
My guess is this: if there is a single knob for allowing the audio and mike signals for the blending, and the person had turned the knob fully for receiving only the mike input, then she would have come to the wrong conclusion that the device does not support such mixing.
Alternately, perhaps one has to also tweak the setting under sound on the Mac itself ...another angle of thought of mine.
Before I go for the buy, I wish some existing users will contribute to this post so that I need not regret any purchase which does not meet my need.

#1 seems to be plug and play whereas #2 needs a bunch more cables. Apparently only #2 has Phantom Power, but then what is #1 used for if not the same thing?

#1, obviously, would be to connect a mic that doesn't require phantom power.
And #2 comes with a 6 ft. USB cable, so you may not need a bunch more cables. Maybe just one standard XLR to connect a mic to it.

  • Stuck: Need Disk repair but DVD drive dead and only have USB 1

[1 Ghz flat-panel iMac with USB 1 ports (no USB 2) and also Firewire 400]
I noticed a strange discrepancy (small but concerning) between the size of a folder on hard drive (folder of all mp3's with no subfolders) and the backup of the same folder on a mounted thumb drive.
(The size difference was not due to any invisible .DS_Store files and both folders are displayed in List view format.)
    Disk Utility reports three things:
    1. Incorrect number of thread records
    2. Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
    3. Checking volume information.
Volume free block count",0)   [I might have mangled this line]
(It should be 13438611 instead of 13437937)
Here is the GOOD (but these are useless as explained under the "Bad"):
    - I have a Tiger 10.4 boot DVD for a repair ==>but see below
    - I also have a Disk Warrior disk (never used)
    Here is the BAD:
    - My built-in optical drive [Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105] is -- I now discover - defunct and DEAD - it does not run the Tiger Boot DVD (in pristine shape).
    - I bought an external SuperDrive (unopened) but I believe no boot from USB 1 is possible in PowerPC so a SuperDrive with USB 1 is useless.
    Questions:
1.) Is there any way to boot from some external source (optical drive is DEAD) to run Disk Utility and/or Disk Warrior? -- I see none in this case! (gulp).
2.) More importantly (and this is my fundamental concern): Do the three Disk Utility hard drive issues constitute any direct threat to the integrity of my files?
I have almost everything backed up to duplicate thumb drives over these many months as standard practice.
Are these Disk Utility errors fully isolated to hard drive directory-keeping...or do these directory damage errors pose the possibility of mangling or harming my files or their metadata (filesize, etc.).
Put another way, when files are backed-up from a hard drive under the Disk Utility reports above, do they remain unharmed and undamaged by the situations reported by Disk Utility?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Jeff and Michael,
Thank you both for your generous and thoughtful input.
Michael: As I slept on it overnight, the exact same idea occurred to me of trying a Target Mode to the iMac from my Lion MacbookPro (I have it but stupidly have yet to use it much!).
I did buy a Firewire 800 (MBP) to Firewire 400 (iMac) adapter cable a few months ago!
CONCERN: Would there be potential compatibility issues or risks in running Lion 10.7's Disk Utility against the hard drive of the old OSX 10.4 iMac in Target Disk Mode?
==> Assuming an "it's ok" answer to the Target Disk question, would the majority of users agree that the Target Disk Mode would be more prudent than running:
fsck -fy   in Single User Mode
I have never done fsck -fy before especially because I was under the impression there were issues with Journaled drived but from what I have read today...it looks ok to do)
Jeff: Can't thank you enough for the reference to the OTW DVD drive. I might first invest $10 in one of those DVD lens cleaner disks that I've read about. It's probably not the issue or else why would the drive read commercial Music cds perfectly well!
    Thanks,
    Bilil

  • Device not working after updating from 8 to 8.1: SMK Ehome Infrared Transceiver and remote control (usb)

    Hi all,
An excellent 2015 to you all.
I wonder whether it's possible to get my (USB) SMK Ehome Infrared transceiver (which serves to connect my PC to a remote control)  to work again. It functioned okay under Windows 8, but when I upgraded my system to Windows 8.1 it didn't respond anymore.
How's that possible? And do you have any ideas how I can resolve this?
I use the remote control to start and stop videos and to adjust the sound volume.
    What I have done already:
-disabled and enabled the consumer IR devices under 'HID devices' in device management.
-disabled and enabled the USB controller for the Ehome Infrared Receiver.
No luck so far. Anybody knows what to do?
    Cheers,
    Peter

    Hi,
What is the driver status in device manager? Have you tried to manually download the right version driver for Windows 8.1 from the transceiver's manufacture website and install it in your system?
Meanwhile, please run services.msc to launch services manager, then scroll down to "Human Interface Device Access service", make sure the service is "started" to "manual" or "automatic", test the issue again.
    Yolanda Zhu
    TechNet Community Support
Thanks, Yolanda Zhu. There is no driver on the manufacturer's website, but the driver is included from  Windows versions XP to 8 and the device responds as expected under these OS Versions. In Windows 8.1 it seems also to be included, and device manager
indicates under Human Interface Devices that the 'Microsoft eHome infra transceiver' driver  functions correctly and under
Universal Serial Bus controllers that 'eHome infrared receiver' (USBCIR) functions correctly as well.  But when I press the remote, the red LED blinks, but nothing else happens.
The "Human Interface Device Service" is set to automatic and is being executed.
Can it be that the mapping ('action on remote' to 'action on PC') is lost somehow?
    Cheers,
    Peter AKA Django

  • I have no mouse or keyboard. I have tried USB and wireless. Help?

How can I get back control of my commuter?  Cursor floats with mouse, but no clicking.  I have used USB and wireless mouses and keyboards. Keyboard will "wake" but no other function . 2011 iMac 27. what can I do?

Where does the problem occur?  What happens?
    Ciao,

  • I have pluged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.
    Help.

    BB1B2,
The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.
    Sorry,
    Clinton

  • [Kernel] USB and network trouble

Hey all, i have some trouble getting my system fully running.
I have a built in 3com network card, it uses the 3c59x module in the kernel (got it build into the kernel). I also have a usb cd writer. When i start writing my network fails after sometime. I came from vectorlinux to arch. In VL it worked without a prob. Here check my dmesg output. The most interesting is at the end.

When my network is down, the onlything to restore is is rebooting my computer. Restarting the network daemon does not work. Currently i don't have hotplug running, but with hotplug i encounter the same problem.
I hope anybody can help me.
    Greetinx Atze

It looks like the problem is with ACPI or you have a hardware IRQ conflict..
check for a bios update for your Motherboard and check the bios settings.
It might also help if you moved network card to another pci-slot.
