[1.5.0] Proxy settings - where? + Console popup how to get rid of it?

Having installed JRE 1.5.0 at home after 1.4.2 was running on it, the console "pop up" window doesn't show (probably since I configured it to hide the console).
After at work the JRE 1.5.0 packages on Windows XP Pro were distributed, the icon in the taskbar remained properly hidden BUT the console window keeps coming back when the JRE is called on... Where does one find the configuration file for things like this, in the registry, Documents and Settings, some hidden ini/config file? On my PC the changed proxy setting remains, but some settings need to be used in packages.
I've run the "Find Files" to see if files have changed today on the PC after I've changed the console setting and/or the proxy setting - but nothing there. Checking the registry for /Javasoft and /Java-hives brought no solution either. No FAQ, thread in this forum brought a solution.

Try going to Start->Configruation->System properties
(I'm not quite sure how it's called in English, since I'm working with a german XP...)
Anyway, the thing where you have AudioSetup,DisplaySettings etc..
There's one entry for Java as well. There should be one tab where you can configure the popup behaviour.
Hope that helped!?

I have very thin, colored lines that have shown up on my IMac monitor screen.  I don't know where they came from or how to get rid of them.  I'm concerned now because I started with one and now have three.  Does any know why this occurs or how to get rid of them?

I got an address from Applecare, although I can't place my hand on it right now. I didn't bother persuing the letter route myself as I didn't expect much. I know that the location was Cork, Ireland though as that where the UK Applecare is based as far as I'm aware. The best thing to do is to call Applecare (if it's free) and discuss the issue. State that you are not happy wit the fact that you will have to pay to have the problem resolved especiiay if it is an ongoing problem that has not been resolved. I ended up speaking to a senior manager of the Applecare team who then proceeded to tell me about mailing in my grievence to customer services division or something like that.
If I can find the address I may post it if I'm allowed.
In the case of age, Schools usually have a 5-year life-cycle as they tend to be used differently than consumer machines, i.e. being used constantly on a daily basis for at least 12 hours with no break. you would expect issues to appear after a few years, but I expect problems that arise through defects to be resolved and stay resolved. As I mentioned we had machines for around 2 years before the lines appeared and sent them to be repaired. I'm happy with that. What I am unhappy about is the fact that the problem has reappeared exactly in the same way and now I'm left with around 7 machines that I either pay loads to repair or, the more likely replace the machines with newer ones since the age is now big enough to warrant the replacement.
Sorry for the lengthy moan, but these are the reasons I purchased Apple ahrdware in the first place to avoid the "not our problem" stance some PC vendors  usually take, similar to the Dell monitors thread mentioned in here somewhere.

  • Very strange Popup - can't get rid of it

I've been getting a very strange popup lately when I go to certain sites and I can't get rid of it. It's an advertising thing that thinks for some reason that I live in Oakland (which i don't but is nearby). I also noticed that on certain websites now autofill puts in Oakland and some sites say i am logging in from Oakland.
The popup looks like an XP window but is messed up and the text hangs over the edge of the box. It bounces around in the middle of my screen and makes accessing anything under it impossible.
I have cleared cookies, cache and history. I have pop block on. This happens in Safari and in Firefox. I can send a screen shot but can't seem to paste one here.
If I have accidentally gotten some adware installed, how can I find and get rid of it???
Any help would be hugely appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ed

Thanks for the quick response. I pretty much always get it at this site:
    http://www.alluc.org/alluc/tv-shows.html?action=getviewcategory&category_uid=822
A friend just tried the site too and said he gets the same popup but with an advert for Seattle (where he does live), so perhaps this isn't something installed on my computer after all... it is super annoying, though, so i'll give that program a try. do you have any other thoughts?

  • How to get rid of Lenovo's ThinkVantage popups?

Every time I power up (or resume/wake up) my X201t I am greeted by some stupid, superfluous, big green Lenovo ThinkVantage popups most of the time telling me, that no issue has been found. Can one get rid of those? As long as there was no issue found I don't want to be bothered at all! Which of the startups or services is responsible for bringing up these popups? I went through the list of services and startups using msconfig,  but most of them have names that suggest, that I would probably want to keep them (like "Thinkpad Power Manager" or "Tablet Buttons"). Nevertheless, one of them must also bring up these stupid alerts. Can one silence those?

    Hi mmo,
I believe it's ThinkVantage Toolbox, open it, System Health -> Scheduled Hardware Check -> Settings -> Change the Frequency. Check whether Toolbox is current with ThinkVantage System Update.
Do look at following thread too:- http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Frequent-Scheduled-Hardware-Check-problem/m-p/...
    Hope this helps.

Actually, this may be better advice:
Try opening this preferences file in a text editor:
    /Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist
    Then look for
    <key>Path</key>
    <string>/Applications/TechTool Pro 4.app/Contents/SharedServices/0-StartupInit.service/Contents/Frameworks/TechToo lProtection.app</string>
Try deleting that entry, save the file, then logout and then log back in. I think that should prevent the Techtool Protection app from loading.

  • How to get rid of unwanted popups

I would really want to get rid of them because I am quite concerned that it may be a virus or something. Please help!

Sometimes it would also ask me to allow or trust a certificate, which I am unsure of.
You should never permit the installation of something you are unsure of.
You may have inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it.
For a description of how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended actions read How to install adware. Apple's instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.

I can't get rid of the annoying and time wasting pop ups and ad pages that jump in front of the page I click on. I have blocked popups in Chrome and Safari as well as system preferences

You most likely installed adware along with something else you recently installed.
You can either follow Apple's manual instructions for removing it, or the free automated tool, AdwareMedic.

  • Popup - how to get the focus in a specific compent

    Hi,
I am trying to get the focus of my pop-up in the second component.
Use case: New button in the table shows a popup to get the input from the user. There is a Undo Edit link (top-left) to discard changes, on top of the pop-up so by default the focus goes to the top left. I have input text boxes under that. And I am trying to get the focus (mouse cursor) in the first input text box rather than the undo Edit link. Any idea to implement that without using javascript ?
