Did apple sell this set-up this way right out of the factory when they were new?

my macbook pro running lion will not boot . it stays on the grey page with the cog spinning. I have tried all methods of booting to no avail. I have removed the bottom and taken out the battery and the ram . will this affect my applecare warranty. I had to try myself as I'm overseas for two months and nowhere near any sort of help .
there was a recent software update that seemed to screw HDV up. Do some searching here over the last month or 2 and you'll find a bunch of posts and some possible solutions.
Worst case scenario, do as Shane suggests. But might I suggest you take a look at the user tips section of the forum. there are some great tips on how to prevent these sorts of problems by cloning your startup drive, etc. -
Hi I have just bought a new Mac Book Pro 15" Retina display with 256 SSD and 8G RAM. I had my info transferred form my Previous Mac Book Pro late 2011 to this machine. When trying to download Mavericks it says it cannot be loaded onto this machine? Strange as I have just downloaded Pages, Numbers and Keynote...free? Thanks and Regards

You already have got OS X Mavericks installed (the Keynote, Pages and Numbers versions available in the Mac App Store are only compatible with OS X Mavericks).
You have got a Late 2013 MacBook Pro, which uses a special OS X Mavericks version that is not available in the Mac App Store. This is the reason why the Mac App Store is not compatible with OS X Mavericks even if you are using it. This will be fixed in OS X 10.9.1, when your Mac uses the same Mavericks version as all other Macs.

I have a 2 year old Air with 1.8 GHz i5 4 GB that is more than adequate and extremely fast for the uses you describe.
Is battery life a factor in your decision? If so, knowing that may help someone else give you some more input. -
My mac keeps freezing, i checked my ram fine, checked if SMART was verified it was, i reinstalled my software a few times and my RAM is 8gb used memory clean to make sure it wasnt a RAM probkem and my macbook is still freezing my RAM is 8gb i have 4.50/4.80 gb left and Mid -2012 model Macbook Pro what could be the problem also it started freezong when i upgraded to Yosemite and now my mac freezes once im logged into and sometimes has problem booting up either freezing or agent secuity error black screen??!!!!

My itunes opens 2-3 hrs after doubleclicking it to open;it happened once or twice with itunes 11.x , but its a constant problem after updating itunes to the latest 12.0.1....my operating system windows7;processor i5 intel haswell and 4gb ram...i have no issue with opening other big programs....i tried uninstalling completely the itunes and reinstalling it as i thought at first it is not opening (because it takes really long time) and i followed the following support pages
1)iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
2)iTunes for Windows doesn't open after upgrading in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
but my problem doesnot get solved even after trying all the methods in the above pages...

when i use office it causes a very high cpu usage even when its in idle mode.
i am unable to work with it, because its extremely slow.

mbp 2.0 1,5gb ram 80gb hdd Mac OS X (10.4.7)I am able to work OK with office, I'm using the 'old version' Microsoft Office v.X, not much details in the About Box, just listed as MSoft Word/Excel/etc for Mac service release 1.
I get the occasional crash, and I have seen Word in particular use 90% of a single core and amazingly large virtual memory usage, gigabytes sometimes, but eventually the document gets printed.
It shows how useful the dual core (or quad) cpu approach is!
One cpu for Word to print, and one cpu to run the rest of my applications/life!
I still use this old office rather than re-booting into Window§ for whatever is the latest version of office.
Doing some playing with a similar one page document in Office v.X and Pages 2.01, I get Word using about 25% of a core , Pages using 5%, - whilst editing; Intel native Pages has 20% of a core and 80MB ram 480 virtual whilst printing, Word has about 100% of a core and 65MB ram 650 virtual whilst printing, but it is a powerPC code so Rosetta is in there somewhere.
check Activity Monitor or other apps/widgets for some parasitic processes? have fun!

That statement means nothing without some argumentation. How much does Xcode need RAM? How big codebase works well with 4GB? Have you actually EVER ran out of memory with 4GB usign Xcode?
8GB is better, of course. But if everything can be done with 4GB then it is better to save the money.
I have used MBA 2011/2GB and it worked flawlessly in normal desktop usage (Safari, Terminal, Email etc...). Didn't try with Xcode, though. -

I like Garage-band a lot and have posted on Macjams.com (but not for awhile) I have used Audacity
Abelton Lite (acquired through a gear purchase) and am up to version 6, Reason Adapted for Korg (V3), Tracktion V1 (*not bad) got it free when Mackie gave it away (free full version and license) but never pursued V2 or V3 and I think its on its way out now also, I keep coming back to Garage-band V2 as its user friendly, can use live instruments, virtual instruments with a midi controller and loops as well. my eMac is a 1.25ghz USB 2.0 (version) 1GB of ram and a 80GB hard drive. *I am running Panther 10.3.9 and as any one running Panther I am sure realize the browser issues and even getting access to free-ware or demo's , I read on OWC www.macsales.com that my eMac and the one later with a higher GHz processor can run with 2GB and they referenced a Mac Document as well. In the past I did buy Jam Pack Number One (no Genre or type noted) a nice varied program and also Sonic Boom Box but I give it a so so as you need a large 61 or full 88 key midi keyboard (or I am doing something wrong) *I use a M-Audio Radium 49 and about 2/3 of the keys work (or get sound unless You adjust the octave switch) I was interested in the virtual instruments the most too, I have no issues with the Jam Pack Vitual Instruments (guess read the manaul (again)

I have an old computer with a Intel Pentium 200MHz CPU and 64Mb RAM.
Is that machine suitable to run archlinux?
I'm also open to suggestions for other linux distributions better suited for
such an old computer. I think i have no need for arch's bleeding edge approach on that machine.
I have experience with debian stable as well and like it for not having to maintain it that much.
But i'm not sure, if it's still suited for such an old computer. Maybe, there are better alternatives.

I want to use it as my kitchen computer, to listen to music and browse the internet.
I want to install an PCI-USB card and connect a bluetooth adapter;
a network card and a soundcard (i have a Creative Soundblaster 16 with ISA bus and
a Creative Soundblaster Live! with PCI bus. I'm not sure, which one would be better for
