1.83 Ghz Core 2 Duo or 2.0 Ghz Core Duo???

Just curious if anyone would know which would be faster, a 1.83 Ghz Core 2 Duo or a 2.0 Ghz Core Duo. I saw both listed on the refurbished Apple site. The original 2.0 Core Duo has a Superdrive (not that I really have a need for one but you never know). Both have the same size harddrive and RAM. The difference in price is $50 more for the 1.83 Core 2 Duo. I am leaning towards the 1.83 Core 2 Duo with Combo Drive only because it is newer, even though the drive is slower. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice or a direct comparison between the two?
Thanks,
Thom

If it matters, the core 2 duo is a 64-bit processor, while the core duo is 32-bit. C2D also has 802.11n support (draft-n at this time, but it's upgradeable).
While the processor is 64-bit, the system is still limited to max 3 gb of RAM, so there are no huge advantages other than the fact that it's a tad bit faster; very few applications are optimized for the newer 64-bit processors anyway. I'd say it's a wash. Get the C2D if you want the "latest and greatest" 2nd generation model, there are always subtle differences between generations. If it doesn't really matter, just get the core duo.
As for the drive, there are 7200RPM sata laptop drives available on the market now; a 80 gig Hitachi will set you back about $100. It's a painless upgrade process.

If you are running 10.6.8 you can download 10.9 from the App Store and install it with going through 10.7 and 10.8 first. 10.9 Mavericks is a free download in the App Store.
10.9 Mavericks will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.9 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Mavericks doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Mavericks.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

If you are trying to upgrade using a gray-faced OS X disk from another system, that won't work, as those disks are locked to the system types they are delivered with. You'll need to drop the $29 on a retail copy of Snow Leopard, which is available from the Apple online store. Note Snow Leopard requires 1GB minimum, and you may want at least 2GB for better performance.

    HI..
Read here >  Requirements for Mac OS X v10.5
Your Mac meets the requirements but make sure there's enough free disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • Premiere Pro 2----Pentium 4 @ 3 Ghz. or Core 2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33 Ghz.

    hi all,
i am getting a  computer with following specification for premiere pro 2:
    Intel core 2 duo e6550 @ 2.33 ghz 2.33 ghz.
    2 Gb Ram
    3 Physical Hard Disk
Now i want to ask is,
    is Core 2 Duo e6550 faster than Pentium 4 @ 3 ghz.?
Will i be able to edit in Premiere Pro 2?
i have been editing in premier pro 2 with pentium 4 and i am pretty much ok with it. is core 2 duo e6550 faster than p4?
    kindly enlighten,
    Regards

All is relative, but with these specs your PC will be around 50 - 70 times slower than a good performing system.

  • Intel Core 2 Duo a 2,4 GHz

    Hi.
My question is if this "Intel Core 2 Duo a 2,4 GHz", means that we have 2 processors of 2.4Ghz, or if we have 2 of 1.2Ghz?
P.S.: I know that this topic isnt in the right place, but it seems that there isnt no topic for my question, sorry about this.
    Thanks

One chip, two internal cpus on that one chip, BOTH running at 2.4.

  • What to choose: MacBook Core 2 Duo or 2006 MacBook Pro Core Duo ?

I have this dilemma… want to buy an Apple laptop to use mainly as a desktop, hooked to an external 22” display, keyboard and mouse, as I’m using it for graphics apps (Adobe CS3) or video apps.
I have to choose between a Core 2 Duo MacBook or an 2006 Core Duo MacBook Pro.
(about the same price range, the Pro is still more expensive)
Don’t care much about drive space as the files are stored elsewhere, so my question is a propos the graphics capabilities (and maybe heating?) – which laptop is better to use heavily in clamshell mode to do graphic design and such?
    Thanks.
    G5 desktop   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    Hi tdrb,
Both model are able to run Lightroom and Aperture:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshoplightroom/productinfo/systemreqs/
but intel GMA is not that superb on 3D modeling if you planning to add 3D software later on, so I agree with mort for that.
Also macbook only comes in 13" while the smallest mbp comes with 15".
So if you only bring your portable laptop to clients, they will see better on 15" compare to 13"
Also on mbp you can choose matte or glossy lcd screen, and from my experience, I prefer matte finish when I do graphic composition.
For calibrate the tone color, you can use color guidience from pantone or other third party software and hardware like spyder, etc.
But the decision is yours to make, visit apple store run aperture on both and compare how that will response (remember 2006 model might slightly slower than new model on apple store) and which is preferable to your eyes.
    Good Luck.

    Hi Zahid-I,
We support the Windows server system install on the certified hardware you can search ask your hardware vendor for exactly supported system or you can search the Windows Server
Catalog to found whether your hardware certified by server 2008, personal experience is most of the laptop not supported the server system.
    Windows Server Catalog
