Using FF 3.6.16. Last 2 minor upgrades happened auto. , without my permission (another irritant).
I routinely clear the cache (all options checked off), and this has little to no effect on either #1 or #2. Whenever I restart FF, it takes less than 24 hours to get back to memory-hog state. Regardless of number of tabs - I've tested that too, even just a couple of tabs over time will see memory swallowed up.

The battery alone is a $5 to $15 part. Hard drives vary in cost, and depending on the iMac, they may or may not be able to install a third party hard drive, or one resold through Apple. Firefox 4.0 RAM usage typically averages between 400-750MB for light usage (1-2 windows, 1-3 tabs each). Memory usage skyrockets over time, and/or if I open more tabs or windows where I've seen it consume well over 1 GB of RAM of my total 4 GB. Firefox 4.0 never seems to free much of this RAM relative to what it's consuming either.
The only plugins enabled are QuickTime, Flash and Java (and disabling any of these to use Firefox efficiently should not be required).

Can Firefox v4 be updated to allow opening recently closed tabs from the tab bar??

Opening recently closed tabs by right-clicking (the mouse) over the tab bar was available in Firefox up through the last released update to v3.6. I found it useful and easy to use. I understand that I can use 3 left-mouse clicks to open a recently closed tab from the history (click on upper-left Firefox button, navigate to/click on History, and then navigate to/click on Recently Closed Tabs), or press CTRL+SHIFT+T. Up until version 3.6, I could just simply right-click the tab bar to re-open a closed tab. Can right-clicking the tab bar be re-instituted in Firefox v4?

That tab context menu only shows if you right click a tab on the Tab bar.<br />

My questions are - 1. Since these pictures appeared to be of a minor, can you backtrack to the source to find out where they originated and have something done about the individual who posted them? And,
2. - Did my clicking on the link as directed - by Firefox, I thought - open my computer up to the personal information on my computer being compromised?

Memory sky rockets over time, poor performance.

I've noticed when I come home from work, my Fire Fox is performing incredibly bad. Tabs take awhile to open, mouse wheel scrolling has a delay, etc. You tube videos would pause and stutter on the video but audio is fine. I started to monitor it and its the fact my wife will open 10 windows, sometimes with tabs, but never fully close all of them. When I come home, its at 1.5-2.2gb of memory used in task manager. I tried about:memory and its littered with facebook mentions, even though no facebook tabs are open. She might have 1 or 2 tabs up for cooking recipes.
The only fix is to close FireFox all together and reopen it.
If I lose her opened tabs, she gets a little upset, so I have to kill the exe in task manager so when I reopen it it will offer to resume the previous session.
This is just a touch tedious after a few weeks.
Is there a different command or something I can do to leave current windows open and just flush out all that used memory?

I only got to do it on Tuesday, but I cleared out a bunch of the unused extensions. So now just Adblock and an old Mouse Gestures Redox.

Firefox for Android becomes painfully slow over time. Clearing data fixes, but erases bookmarks. Where is the "Reset" function ??

After a fresh install, Firefox loads websites very fast with almost no lag. After a few weeks, it becomes slower and slower. Getting to the point where it wil take aboit 20 seconds to display the Top Sites/Bookmarks window. Then sometimes opening a page, the loading circle stops moving and it freezes the phone. After about 15 seconds everything works again. The only way I found to fix this horrendous problem is to go into control panel for Firefox and Clear Data. I dont like doing that because I lose all of my bookmarks. It seems the Cache always shows "0 bytes" so there never is nothing to clear out. I would like to know where this "Reset" function is for Android. I see they have it for Windows versions..but what about Android?

That should at least help you see where the memory is going to.

Windows Live Mail doesn't work in Firefox after recent updates to Windows 7. System Restore doesn't help.

Installed around 8 important Windows 7 updates over the past 3 days (so, nothing I could uninstall as they're security updates mainly). Since then, Windows Live Mail doesn't respond in Firefox. Did 2 System Restores and downloaded Live Essentials again but nothing works.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

Running 10.4.11 I can not find the outdated plugins that Firefox keeps telling me I need. Apple Software Update doesn't help with this

I'm running 10.4.11 and am unable to find the plugin updates that Firefox keeps telling me I need on an annoying little popup window that keeps coming up whenever I download a page using Firefox. The pluin updates I need are for Quicktime, Java to name a few. Is Apple not supplying any more plugin update because I'm using an old version of Mac OSX? The firefox plugin page tells me that Apple supppies their own plugins but I don't see any when I use Apple Software Update. Any suggestions?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I'm checking my plug-ins & I have an outdated Adobe Reader PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape vers 10.1.13.16. Updating doesn't help, just says up to date.

Unfortunately, Adobe doesn't support the current Reader XI on Windows Vista.
If the Help > Check for Updates inside Adobe Reader X says you are good, you'll have to trust Adobe on that. The Mozilla plugin checker isn't designed to have multiple current versions for different flavors of Windows (at least, the last time I checked it wasn't).

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:

Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.

Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger. These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.

If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
    used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
    requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
    drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Carbon Copy Cloner
2. Get Backup
3. Deja Vu
4. SuperDuper!
5. Synk Pro
6. Tri-Backup

Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Mavericks and later

But the phone-home-effect is over-stepping these basic parameters. If a user turns their browser off and then on, Firefox is still obligated to "check-in" even if it just checked in 3 minutes prior. If the coding is not pre-designed to overstep, or act excessively in a redundant focus, the instance of once every six hours or once every 24 hours, is still overmuch if a user has been doing this (non-voluntarily-participating) for 9 months or longer.

Memory of jdbc app grows over time (timesten backend db)

I have a memory problem with my application(timesten backend db). I don't know how to resolve it and need your help.
When I call stored procedures with CallableStatement, the resident memory of application grows over time (up to 6GB).
I closed statement after executing.

This might be due to this bug raised for JDBC Client/Server connection
Bug 12969330 : MEMORY LEAK IN JDBC CS FOR CALLABLE/PREP STATEMENT W/ NUMPARM % 4 != 0
There is a leak in JDBC driver which seems to affect only C/S; it does not seem to affect direct or batch. ** This bug has been there since 11.2.1.6.0.
Here are few conditions which are needed for this bug to occur:
1. Application must be using a Client/server connection
2. Applications repeatedly does the following:
1. Create a PreparedStatement or CallableStatement
2. set or register IN, OUT or IN OUT parameters
3. Number of parameters is not an integral multiple of 4. It is the total number of parameters which matter; parameter type does not matter. JDBC driver leaks memory if the number of parameters in a PreparedStatement/CallableStatement are not an integral multiple of 4.
3. On a close 1-3 parameters can be leaked.
If your application deals with above scenario then there is a possible chance of the bug being hit. An example of a scenario :-
The below PreparedStatement has 1 parameter (so it's not an integral multiple of 4):

To workaround the bug, you can add 3 dummy parameters -- SELECT col1 FROM Tab1WHERE col2 = ? and 1=? and 1=? and 1=? and set parameters 2,3 and 4 to 1.
