1 Frame off

Working in FCP 6, and notice that when I move my cursor and set an out point on my timeline, it is always 1 frame off/over the point of where my cursor is, so it's always gives me 1 additional frame. very annoying.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Chopper

if you park the playhead on a frame and hit in and out you have a 1 frame duration
Exactly. Not sure how that is not what I said. You don't have to move the played to get 1 frame cause the In-Point is the Start of the Frame and the Out-Point is the Start of the last frame (in this case the current frame).
If you want a 10 min clip, things could look like this (as you already know)
(PAL)
In: 10:00:00:00
Out 10:09:59:24
Duration: 10 mins
(PAL)
In: 10:00:00:00
Out 10:10:00:00
Duration: 10 mins 1 frame
I guess I should have said the playhead displays the start of the last frame but the actual Out is the end of that Frame, right?
I'll stop cause everyone gets it now so there is no real point in this

  • Using Overwrite, snapped PC files from Vegas are 1 frame off in timeline!

Perhaps someone here can offer some help...
I was given a 30 minute piece of video that someone else created and started in Sony Vegas on PC. I have to finish the project in FCP. I personally did the final Audio soundtrack myself in Pro Tools. I am syncing that with this video, that had a "rough" early version of the same audio.
The person who gave me the files delivered them in AVI format. As many editing programs do, Vegas apparently split the 30 minutes of video/audio (around 6 gig of DV-NTSC 29.97 video) into multiple 1 gig pieces. So I have 6 (1gig) .avi clips that should snap back together frame accurate to get the 30 minutes back in the timeline in FCP.
So, I setup a standard DV-NTSC FCP project and I imported my audio first, so I could verify time cues, etc.
I import the AVI files, then Snap them in the timeline front to previous end, carefully, using Overwrite.
However, all of the video files are exactly 1 frame off at the end of each clip. As if either the Vegas splitting chopped off a frame at the end while splitting, or FCP is losing a frame as I import and then snap it in the time line. I can determine that it is exactly 1 frame, because of my "final", non-split audio track that is sync'd just underneath it. At the timeline area where each new clip gets snapped in, I can zoom way in and determine that the rough audio from the video track, is off by a frame with my final audio track.
It's not a drift problem, because if I line up each single clip on it's own with my audio, it stays perfectly in sync until the final frame. Then it's 1 frame short.
So by the time I snap in 6 clips, my video is exactly 6 frames off at the ending with my audio track (which I know is correct).
Sorry for being a bit lengthy, but it is hard to explain otherwise...
Is there something I am overlooking? Shouldn't FCP handle the AVI files okay? The person who gave the files to me from Vegas states that they should be frame accurate regardless of the split.
I am going to try them in another program to see what I discover, but I am stumped right now in Final Cut Pro? (That is assuming the Vegas splits were correct? Maybe that is the culprit?)
    Thanks for any thoughts!
    Wade

    Thanks David...
I was able to finally conducted a test. I went to a friends studio that runs Premiere Pro 2.0. I checked the files there and the split AVI files do line up frame accurate perfectly and there were no frames cut off. (No surprise as it's PC files used in a PC format
Also, I first mentioned that I thought it was the end of the file that was missing a frame. It actually looks to be the opposite. It's at the front of the file that is off and missing 1 frame.
So, shouldn't I be able to use the AVI files in FCP frame accurate? Is there some dummy setting I am missing? Lastly, since AVI files are not the best format to use in FCP, can anyone recommend a conversion method for me to use for these files in FCP?
    Thanks again!

  • Color's timeline is one frame off on occasion

Hi there, odd problem I'm having.
Show shot on RED, cut in Premiere (about 4 mins long), then baked out to ProRes 4444 at its native framerate (23.98), re-cut, then sent to FCP. Now, there were some weird errors there, but I worked around them okay. Made sure the timebase and framerate are 23.98, sent to Color, all seems well, except on occasion the cut is one frame off. The project is also at 23.98 in Color.
Here's the kicker. If I unlock my track and use the Roll tool to fix the annoying error, then sometimes the frame will double up (it will seem like there's the same frame at the end of one clip and at the beginning of the next), or the last frame of the previous clip will become the first frame of the next, creating a different problem and solving nothing.
Ideas on what might be going on?
I'm monitoring through a Matrox MXO2 mini, out from my expresscard slot, if it makes any difference.

I am having the same problem right now with a feature film that is a single baked quicktime (apple pro res HQ 1920 x 1080 23.976 fps) for each scene.
I take the scene and open it in Final Cut Pro, I make the sequence settings automatically fit to the clip.
I cut it up into the seperate shots in the Final Cut timeline. I send to Apple Color.
Then in Apple Color, I see the the edit points are sometimes one frame off (not all of them are off). In all these instances the edit point is rolled one frame forward.
If I color correct and then send back to Final Cut Pro, the new color corrected timeline also is one frame off based on the new footage and xml that came out of Color.
    Help!
    Using Final Cut Pro  7.0.3
    Color 1.5.3
If I look at the format of the original one piece quicktime in Final Cut Pro it says 23.98, and when I open the specific compression setting it states the exact 23.976
In Color it states 23.98 in project settings and if I look at the format of what it is rendering out to Final Cut Pro, it says 24fps. If I open footage rendered in Color (with project settings of 23.98) in quicktime it shows it to be a 24fps clip.
But it is already wrong in the locked timeline of Color. That just after sending from Final Cut Pro. Before any grading, rendering, or sending
That would mean that something is wrong with the xml file Final Cut Pro is sending out.

  • Marked edit point at 1 frame off from playhead

The drugs wore off many years ago so I can't blame that. I move the playhead to a spot I want as an edit out point, in the timeline or viewer, mark the point and then notice the actual outpoint is 1 frame past the playhead thus making the duration 1 frame too long. Have to always go and trim back a frame. I must have changed some setting or another because I don't ever remember this happening before. Thanks, Richard

No, it isn't the drugs or even excessive caffine ... its the way FCP works. The playhead displays the frame in front of it. To check it, zoom in on your Timeline and you'll see the how it works.

  • "DV Start/Stop" is 1 frame off!

how come when I capture down conv dv anamorphic from my xha1 and do the "dv start/stop"....the first frame of all of the markers is from the previous clip?
    system info: FCP 5.1.4
    Canon XHA1
    OS 10.4.10
    Thanks!

I don't do HDV but maybe since
the MPEG TS consists of one whole frame every 15 GOP and since the whole frame (I frame) determines the frame lenght and content, when you capture the camera automatically resets its own in and out points!
    This is just a thought!

  • Why is my audio 2 frames off of my video?

when capture video and playback the audio is exactly 2 frames behind.  why is this?  is it an equipment issue or is it an upload/setting issue?  i'm not using the built in mic but an add on shotgun mic that plugs into camera directly.  it's fixable but tediously so.

Usually it's a mis-match between camera audio rate and the FCE Sequence.
For example:  If the camera shot 12 bit or 32 kHz audio and the default FCE Sequence 16 bit or 48kHz is used, unless it's changed to match, sync issues arise.
If you provide specific info on these items we may be able to assist with the trouble.

  • 3 frames off sync with Blackmagic Pro and FCP 5

    Hi all,
I am having a bizarre problem.
I am experiencing a 3 frames delay between what I hear and what I see on the timeline as the beat. I am connected through built in audio to my mixer and monitors, and through SDI to my video monitor. The sync problem happens both on my screen, and on the external monitor. In order to be in sync, I need to do my cut 3 frames before the actual beat on the waveform. It is possible to work like that as it is always 3 frames but it is kinda driving me crazy to go 3 frames back from a beat every time instead of working faster by looking at the waveform. (I am editing a music video right now, and it could help to solve that)
Thanx for any solution you might think of.
    Peace,
    Jean-Michel

you might also want to check your Frame Offset settings
Final Cut Pro > System Settings... (Shift Q)
Playback Control tab, bottom of the "Playback" settings list
    cheers

  • Repeated Frames at the end of clips

I have a MacBook Pro with the adobe premiere pro cc 14, but I noticed this problem is CS6 also. The problem is this: Say I have two clips in the timeline that are connected (Clip A, Clip B).
If I alter Clip B in anyway (change scale or position, or simply remove it from the timeline) the first frame of Clip B will remain at the end of Clip A. So, when I execute the playback function I can see a quick flash of Clip B at the end of Clip A.
    Here's what I've tried:
I tried rendering the files--didn't work.
I tried simply trimming the repeated frame off--didn't work.
    Here's what did work.
There's a straight line that goes through every clip, I don't know what its called but I think it has something to do with the speed, I would drag that from say 100 to 96.55. The video would have the red render bar above it, and the repeated frame would disappear.
HOWEVER, in my current project  I have serval repeated frames in a blank space where there are video clips, so the previous method can not work.
    What the heck!?!?!
    Thanks

    What are these clip exactly

  • How can I get a frame accurate output to tape using Premiere Pro CS6 and a Blackmagic Decklink Extre

i can set the frame offeset inside the Export to tape tool (which BTW is horrible, you can't scrub, you MUST use ":" or ";" in the timecode fiellds or the deck just goes to the beginning of the tape etc), but I'm still 12 frames off.  there is a frame offset in the Blackmagic device control settings, but that does nothing for the output to tape.
I don't want to have to export a quicktime and then open it in Final Cut to output to tape, the whole object is to get away from FCP because it's a horrible ghorrible program.....TIA
This particular system is an 8core Nehelem Mac Pro with 32GB of ram, OS 10.7.5.

I don't know what AppleTV can handle as far as bit rate is concerned, but increase the bit rate as high as it will let you. You are taking DV which is 25Mb/s and compressing it. If you're making an H.264, you should get great results needing no more than 6Mb/s. Bear in mind, the higher the bit rate, the larger the file size.

  • Can I Adjust the Photo Frames in a Book Theme?

I am trying to do my first book. I have tried several themes and like Story Book one the best. I am telling a story. The photos are displayed is a form that isn't linear and draws the eye to them.
    My problems are:
Several of the page layouts slide the corner of the frame off the page. I would like to drag the the frame down a bit so the entire photo is on the page. How can I do that?
Several of the frames are smaller than I would like. How can I increase the frame size?

    Hi ghein,
From playing with it as far as I can see you cannot alter the size or position of the frames. You can however send the frame to the back or the front by control clicking on the image in the frame and scrolling to "move to front" or "send to back"

  • Import Web Page content into table, like Excel imports a Frame from a page

I have a need to import specific content from a web page (specific frame on the page) and store that data in a table. We currently have Microsoft Excel setup with a link to the page and import a specific frame off the page into Excel. But I would like to do this directly into PeopleSoft. Has anyone done something like this before?
    Thanks
    JB

    Scott-
You haven't explained what the format of the text file is and
how you want to display it. You can get the contents of a file with
CFHTTP (if it's in a web-readable directory) and treat it as a
query if it is in a delimited data format. Then you can use
CFOUTPUT as you would with any other query.
You can also use CFFILE to read the contents of a text file
and display it in your page. You can use HTML PRE tags or you can
replace the CR/LF with a BR tag to force a line break.. Lots of
options, depending on your particular situation.

  • Exporting to h.264 causes video to be half frame out sync

Whenever I compress a ProRes quicktime to an h.264, using the standard vimeo presets, the result is always a half of frame out sync. Has this happened to anyone else?

So, here is visual proof. The top track is my original ProRes. The bottom is an h264 coming from Media Encoder. It's a half a frame off.
I'm encoding AAC audio at 128 kbps, 48 KHZ
I can't be the only one experiencing this problem.

  • Dragging image from minibridge to frame which isn't on top (CS5)

    Hi there,
    I'm working with InDesign CS5
I've created a frame on a page, dragged an image to it. I now need to replace it with a new image.
    I do this by:
    1) selecting the frame
    2)dragging from mini bridge.
This works fine if the frame is the top most layer, or off the page (So long as nothing is on top of it).
However, as soon as another page element is 'on top' of this frame, the image will fill the whole page, not the frame.
If I drag the frame off page, the drag and drop functionality works once more.
How should I replace the images within frames which are not on the top?
    Many thanks
    threeisles

    Thank you Peter,
that does work well. I shall use that method now.
Thank you for taking the time to reply and your helpful advice.
