1 HD min = Hardrive space?

I want to get an external hardrive (the maxor one touch II or one touch III series) and I was trying to get an idea of what hardrive size I would need. How much does 1 min of High Def HDV take up on a hardisk? How many megabytes or gigbytes?

fair enough ... and your points about compression and such are well taken, though we should all do well to remember that the many advances in compression technology may (and do) quickly outdate our understanding of what defines our medium.
fwiw: the xdcam hd format records to disc, but whether disc or tape format is not quite the issue of course, as it the compression algorithm that counts ... there are set to be three compression ratios available for this first version - 18Mbits/s (less data than HDV), 25 Mbits/s (same as HDV) and 35Mbits/s.
however in all cases the compression algorithm/codec is improved over HDV's thereby assumedly providing a better picture quality.
(ugly rumor mode on: in the next version of xdcam hd, due sometime '07, they are working on a 4:4:4 version)

If the crash started right after you added RAM, it could be a bad Ram dimm. You can try this - change the amount of RAM in Photoshop to 4G, this should stop Photoshop from using the higher ram. If it doesn't crash, it's probably the ram. Or run a diagnostic app. You don't say when it crashes, what you're doing when it crashes - it there a pattern? Did it ever work on this computer? Did it work on your previous computer? Without a lot of data, it could be related to the new computer... What OS version? Did you recently update it? Have you updated Photoshop to the most recent update?
Do you have any plug-ins loaded? Try restarting Photoshop, and immediately press & hold the shfit key to turn off plug-ins.

No, Photo Stream is syncing with iCloud. The most recent 1000 photos in iCloud will be buffered on your mac, even if you do not import them to your photo library, if you enable My Photo Stream.

Have a new mini mac about a month. Have 80g hardrive. I also have and external drive setup for my music and photos. My internal drive is now at 47gs dont know why i am losing hard drive space cant seem find out were its going. I am new to mac. Are there ways to see were my space is. I have tried searching no luck

IPod Mini storage space

My iPod Mini (4 GB) shows a capacity 3.7 GB but only shows 1.0 GB available with 0 songs. I have reset the iPod many times but still only shows 1.0 GB of available storage space. There are no songs, audiobooks, playlists, etc. on the iPod. What's up with my iPod?

It's just one of those odd software glitches that happen, and a restore usually cures it.

I was playing my mini in my InMotion Speaker System with an iTrip plugged into the Ipod to tune it into a station in my boombox that was sitting next to the speakers it to make it louder. Anyways a weird alien sound comes on, when the iPod wass on shuffle and I check my iPod to see it won't stop loading with the apple sign. Its been like that for days, and the apple store said my hardrive was dead, great. So I either get a new iPod or try this ipodresq.com, has anyone had my problem and tried to get their hardrive replaced through them? I've had my iPod for only a year and a half; just after the warranty, thanks apple. Feedback would be great, thanks.

Problems with Yosemite update and hardrive space! How can I install and use macbook again?

I went to upload Yosemite but didnt have enough space on my hardrive. Now when I turn on my computer it tries to install - gets to about 15 minutes and then stops and says theres a problem extracting files from essential.
There isnt enough room on my hardrive to install Yosemite. I now cannot use my macbook. I cannot access any of my files, documents, apps, itunes ect. I dont know how to free up space on the hardrive when I cannot access anything.

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

Finder says "1.6TB available" on the bottom bar. Is there a preference when changed could make it say "1600GB available" ?

One GB is a very huge file. First of all check ur XI hardware configuration.
1. U may write ur adapter module to zip the message.
2. It wont affect the performance much if the file size is 1 GB. Also u cant stop adapter engine (File Adapter) and the Integration Engine in ur scenario
3. U can do the load testing on XI using load runner

My FCP X render files are taking up my hardrive space!

When I use HD footage for my Final Cut Pro projects it takes up 20 GB per project....
I have a 3 TB external Hardrive, is their a way I can use that to move my render files to it and still be able to edit my project?
Can i delete my render field without messing up my project? Cant I just serenader them later?
My high quality media folder takes up 50 gbs, can I move that to my external drive then delete off my computer? When I edit i will have my drive plugged in.

You should definitely use the external drive - preferrably it should be connected via USB3 or Thunderbolt.
How you move things from here to there depends on what version of FCP X you are using.
In 10.1.x, assuming everything is inside the library, all you have to do is quit FCP X, drag the library to the external drive, let it copy over.
Then double click on the new library in the external drive and make sure everything works. After that you can delete the old one.
Regarding render files, you can delete them at any time, they can always be regenerated.

What is the size of your storage and how much is used?

Can filevault recover unused hardrive space?

I have a G5 iMac 1st gen and a PB G4 12". Whenever I shut down or restart my G5, filevault comes on and does its thing, backing things up. Well, somehow, after ripping some DVD's into itunes, my PB says it only has 5 gigs left. Im thinking, I dont remember putting that much stuff on it, I thought I still had lots of space left. So, one time I restart it and filevault does its thing, and surprise, I have 30 gigs back. Now, I have ripped some DVD's into itunes and we are back to 4 gigs left. So, my question, how do I make filevault come back on and fix stuff? I have turned it off and restarted it a bunch but filevault has not come on. Thx for your answers.

AFAIK Filevault recovers unused drive space whenever you logout or shutdown, something you've experienced already. The reason why disk space seems to disappear so quickly when performing certain actions (such as ripping DVDs to iTunes) is that, presumably, the temporary files are also encrypted during the process and hence add to the used disc space until they are purged when you logout/restart/shutdown.
This appears to be a common bugbear of filevault users. It's just one of the prices of security at the moment.

Missing Gigabytes of reported hardrive space

I have a 80gb hard drive. When Partitioned and Formatted it says I have 74.4gb of hard drive space. Fine That is about normal you lose about 10%.
When I double click on the hard drive icon and let the system calculate all sizes for folders and files, and add up the total I get about 41gb of files. The system says I have 10gb left. If the useable drive space is 74.4 and I list 41gb used plus 10gb left over, where did the other 23.4 gb go?

Thank you Francine for the help you provided in directing me to that discussion. It was very helpful and it let me do a more complete examination of the hard drive in question.
In the end what I found was three separate problems. The first was 3 .zip files that totaled approx 20gb of space. They were visable in the folder but did not get added into the total for the folders size when viewing it through the GUI. But when examined through terminal the proper size was show. I actually did not need them so I deleted them.
The next was 9GB of music files that did not get added into the total of a folder. Running disk verify seemed to clear that up.
Finally was about 2gb of folders/files that showed up in /Volumes A hard drive that used to be attached via firewire left some files behind. that drive does not exist anymore so I deleted the files.
Now everything seems to be back and stable.

So i just got my laptop Repaired by hp and they shipped it to me, so i was downloading some files i needed to work on when i notice they my maxed hard drive space was not the same when i bought it or before i shipped it to hp for repairs right now my laptop before the repair had 750gb of hard drive space now it only has 433gb, i don't know what to do i feel like i been scammed or they took a piece of hardive out of my laptop

OK the recovery partition is "in the way" so you cannot just extend the C drive. The only way to just add the unallocated space would be to go ahead and make the recovery media (DVD or thumb drive) and then delete the recovery partition then you could extend the C drive to fill up the whole disk. You could also just create a new volume in the unallocated space, format it, assign it a drive letter and you could then use it for storage. You could move your Music, pictures or whatever to it.
