1 iphone - 2 Computers

I have an iphone and I have 2 Mac computers - a desktop and a laptop. I'm wondering if anyone knows how I can sync all three - merging is easy enough for calenders and what not. But I'm more concerned with applications - so far I have everything on my desktop machine - but when I downloaded some App's on my laptop - I can't sync them to my phone without losing the App's from the other machine.
Is this changeable and how?

Don't forget that you can download apps on your iPhone. You could browse the store on your laptop but when you want to download them just use the App Store icon on your phone to download directly to your phone. You then won't have a problem about syncing with your laptop.

  • Connecting Iphone to computers

I have my iphone synced with my mac powerbook, no probs. But there are some songs on another computer (my eMac) which I want to move to my iphone. However, when I connect the iphone to the eMac a message comes up saying (something like) "iTunes could not connect to the iphone". Does this mean that the iphone has to be dedicated to one computer only?

I would set up a network and use iTunes to import the music from your mac to your Powerbook

  • Two iPhones, two computers - need all data transferred to one iPhone

I was using a 2G iPhone and was syncing it with my desktop (Mac) on a regular basis. I was traveling for a month and sorta synced it with my laptop (also a Mac), though I cannot remember whether or not the contacts actually synced - I want to say that they did not, in case it matters. I did purchase and download a couple of apps while traveling, though.
One month later, I decided to splurge for the 3GS (woo hoo!). I now need to sync the 3GS with my desktop and copy the apps off of my 2G so I'll have it all in one place.
I have resynced the 2G with my desktop, but the apps didn't "upload" (not that I expected them to).
I'm sure I'm not the only one out there with multiple computers & multiple iPhones - anyone have any advice for me?
    Thanks,

If you purchased music or apps on the iPhone then the file>transfer purchases from iPhone will copy them to the new computer and should prompt you to authorize the new computer.
If you purchased music or apps on the computer then you will need to copy those to the new computer's iTunes library. This is easy if they are on the same network with Home Sharing within iTunes. iTunes 9: Understanding Home Sharing http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819
Once all the music and/or apps are on the new computer then make sure you have a good backup on the new computer. You can control-click on the iPhone under devices in iTunes and select backup. Your previous iPhone should contain all your SMS history, call history, photos, contacts, calendars, ect. Now when you connect the new iPhone 3Gs it will prompt if you want to setup as a new iPhone or restore from backup. Choose restore from backup.

  • Two Iphones, two Computers, two itunes

I am sure this was posted I just can find it.
I have two computers and two i phones. My wife has all the music on her computer. Can set it up that I can get her music on my i tunes to sync to my iphone or do I just need to get the music from her computer and the rest from mine, like my contacts and such.

I have a similar issue - 2 computers, 2 iPhones, 2 iPods, one each for myself and my wife. We have a 115 gig library on a NAS but we don't seem to be able to use it the way I'd like. It seems pointless to duplicate the library on both machines, or even more bizarre - duplicate it on the NAS itself. Is there no way to have one location for the actual music files with separate library files for each of us? I'm happy to "import" the listing into my .itl file, but I don't want to have to create a physical copy of each imported track - that's a waste of space.

  • One iPhone, multiple computers

    Hi,
I'm using my iPhone 3G with a few computers (office, home, laptop etc.). Each of these computer is running the latest version of iTunes. I am able to sync outlook and IE information on all machines.
The problem is that I can copy music to my iphone using one computer only, the rest won't let me copy music to the iPhone. All the music files are MP3.
Is there a way to enable music copying on more than one machine?
    Thanks.

By design, the iPhone will sync itunes content with ONE computer at a time. You can sync contacts & calendars with multiple computers. If you attempt to sync itunes content with a second computer, all itunes content will first be erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature.

  • One iPhone, two computers

I can't be the only person who wants to be able to synch their iPhone to two different computers? Why isn't this allowed?

Hi Tamara - Good question that I've been struggling with. For several years, I had a mac tower, then I switched to a G4 mac mini, then I switched to an intel Macbook with an external keyboard and monitor. I use itunes and apple tv over a wifi for remote speakers on my surround system. Then I started running into problems where I would want to carry the laptop away from the desk (e.g. unplug the monitor and power), only to have my iTunes and airtunes disrupted. By having both computers set up —old G4 Mac mini for web browsing and itunes music only and my new intel Macbook for everything else— two people can be doing two different things on the home network at the same time, or switch between desktop and mobile mode, without disrupting the iTunes and Airtunes. And I would of course take my laptop on the road. I have different priorities on each computer, and at different times one may be more convenient or accessible than another. Part of the key to Apple design is integration. And many mac users have made full use of this integration. It's one of those amazing things that my PC friends haven't been able to fully experience until more recently, if even now. But it would be nice to seamlessly manage the iPhone on two 'authorized' computers that reside on the same network and share iTunes and iPhoto. I guess the solution is to upgrade the G4 mini to one of the new iMacs just released, then make it the 'home' base for all my software and then use my laptop only as a portable device. Still doesn't solve the problem of syncing to iPhone with the MacBook on the road though.

  • Backing up and restoring iPhone if computers change

My employer provides me with an MacBook OSX laptop and I was thinking of syncing all my iPhone stuff to that machine.
But since this is my employer's machine, I would have to give it up if I ever quit, or if they want me to change to a different machine for some reason.
So if I sync everything to the MacBook, is there an easy way to backup or transfer the contacts to another machine? If I connect up the iPhone to another computer/itunes can I send my contacts to it too?

I too need to find out how to backup my SMS/MMS data in way that allows me to restore it to the phone. The problem is that I have corrupted software on my phone. I need to wipe the phone and sync with iTunes as a new phone, without restoring from a previous backup. If I restored the phone from a previous backup, the phone would inherit the corrupted software of the previous backup as well. I have to do a fresh install and sync. MobileMe will take care of restoring my contacts, notes, bookmarks, calendars and mail. MobileMe does not back up SMS/MMS data. What I am looking for is a way to back up the current SMS/MMS data to the computer and then sync it to my freshly wiped iPhone that is synced with iTunes as a new phone. Third party software is fine, as are lengthy, intricate, complicated processes. The goal is simply to get the SMS/MMS data off of my phone and then back onto my phone after it is wiped.

  • Two iPhones - Three Computers

Sorry for the long post here... but I am stumped.
I have two iPhones... one I just purchased this week and one that I have had for a couple of months. I also have two PC's at home and my company laptop.
I am having problems syncing my wife's iPhone to her PC... I can go back to my PC (BTW this is the iPhone that is a couple of months old) where the iPhone was setup and intialized for service and it syncs and backs up fine. On my wife's PC I can see her phone in iTunes... but go to sync and backup... it just flashes on the phone for a second and nothing happens. I have thought about doing a restore... but there are quiet a few contacts on the phone that I really don't want to chance loosing.
Issue two... I just noticed on my new iPhone that I purchased this week that I am experiencing the same thing on my (home) PC... the only difference is I can reboot the PC and it seems to take the sync... at least it shows in the sync records as being a good backup.
Are there limits to iTunes or the iPhone to the number of devices you can sync or backup.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW... I have also removed and reinstalled iTunes on her PC and still have the same issue.
    Thanks,
    Ronnie

I understand your problem; my wife and I each have an iPhone and I do the syncing for both. I previously used a Windows machine for this, and had many problems, most due I suspect to using that particular flavor of Windows. I could sync under different user names but it was a hassle keeping two copies of iTunes up to date, since I buy and use most of the music and video and had to make choices for her iPhone based on what I thought she might like to listen to or watch. Now that I use a Mac the syncing process is much smoother.
As for the contacts, if you're using Windows, all your contacts...yours and your wifes'...are backed up in the Windows Address Book, whether you use the WAB or not. This can lead to some interesting scenarios if either of you have some contacts you want to keep private. Find the .wab file in your Windows folder and by backing that up, you will be backing up your contacts. By renaming the backup you should be able to do a restore if by chance you overwrite the file with a sloppy sync.

  • Two iPhones, two computers, one family MobileMe account

My wife has an iPhone and a MacBook. I have an iPhone and a MacBook Pro. We have separate IDs on one MobileMe family plan. Up til now when I update my iCal on my Mac it shows up in her iCal on her Mac and visa-versa. But the only way to get that information to our phones is to hard sync each phone to each computer. Is it now possible when I update one of my devices it will go to all of her devices and all of mine, and when she updates one of her devices the information will wirelessly to to all of both our devices? If so how is this setup?

After digging through forum after forum this seems to be an issue with iOS 5, or iOS in general, more than about Office 365/Exchange Online. There are numerous Google threads about using ActiveSync and Gmail that result in the same issue. This really seems to be an Apple issue. Has anyone received feedback from anyone at Apple about this? From those that have on other forums there is just finger pointing between Apple and Microsoft and Apple and Google, none of them are taking responsibility for this.

  • Two iPhones, Two computers, one for home, one for business.. Best iCloud setup?

Hey, I am about to upgrade to iPhone 5; meaning I can dump my office Blackberry and use my iPhone 4 for work instead; so my setups will be:
    Home: iMac, iPhone 5, iPad
    Business: Windows laptop, iPhone 4
So my iPhone 5 for home docks with the iMac; the iPhone 4 docks with the Windows laptop; and both are run as independently as possible, with very different apps.
Initially I planned to get a new Apple ID for my Business iPhone, so that I could have bookmarks synced between my Windows laptop and iPhone 4.
However, I realised that - as I use my existing iCloud account for my calendar - I would not have any Home calendar events in my iPhone 4, so for example, wouldn't be able to book appointments for business whilst being sure I didn't have holidays from my Home calendar stored there.
So now I'm thinking of using the same, existing iCloud account on both phones. I will have to lose bookmark syncing on the work phone, but at least I'll have both calendars on it as well.
What do you guys think is best? Any other ideas?

Don't see why not, I've got two iTunes accounts with the same credit card.

  • My iPhone isn't detected when plugged into computers.

When I activated my iPhone at At&t and I was getting my old device transfer to the new one the person helping us said their machine couldn't detect my iPhone.
Also, when I try to connect my iPhone to computers it won't be detected on the computers.
    Thanks!

  • 2 iPhones, 3 PC's, 1 iTunes Account?

We've got two iPhones, 3 computers (1 is wife's work), and one iTunes account. My iphone will be synced only on my pc, my wife's will be synced on all three.
She would like to get rid of my calendar which is already on her phone. We haven't figured out how to do that so far.
Would we be better off with 2 itunes accounts? The advantage to having one means we can share apps. When I talked to an Apple tech rep, he said that was ok. Am I correct in assuming that if we had separate accounts we could not share apps?
What are the pros and cons of 1 account or 2?

Each computers iTunes would need to authorize each others accounts so that computer knows that items from that account are allowed.
My wife and I started by using two accounts as we had two accounts.
While it does work easy for music, over time the apps have become sort of a pain.
What happens is when you sync, your account info is what gets defaulted for items you buy via the phone (eg: apps). Now if you have apps on your computer that you both bought they will sync over. Issue comes when updates come.
When in the phone if you get a list of lets say 3 updates to apps. 1 from you, two from her. Well you cannot say update all. You have to go to each and update one at a time. It will prompt for user account info. If you try update all, it will prompt but then fail for those not under that account.
I ended up stop using my login for buying stuff and just use hers, so now 90% of what we have in apps are under her account. Just makes it easier.
So while you can share apps with multiple accounts it means when you authorize each account for each others computers it counts as 1 of your 5 for each. No biggie really. Same would happen for 1 account that each computer will count for that account.

  • Wifi problems with my iPhone 4S since 6.1.2 update

I thought I had fixed this problem with my iPhone with a change in my home router settings but I did not.  Since the 6.1.2 update I have had problems with my wifi connections.  I have an Airport Extreme wifi network with multiple airport extremes extending the signal throughout our house.  I am only able to communicate with the internet using our wifi network if I am in the same room as the main airport extreme.  If I am a room away from any of the routers I get a message that my iPhone "can't join the wireless network".  If I am in a room standing near one of the other airport extremes I can join the network, my iPhone will show that I am connected to the wifi network with a full signal but I have no communication with the internet.  How I have determined this is by turning cellular off, wifi on & attempted to pull up a web page.  When I do this anywhere other than by our main Airport Extreme I get the message that I am not connected to the Internet.
We have multiple other devices on our home wifi network, i.e. other iPhones, iPads, computers, etc. We aren't having this problem with any other of our devices.  I am not sure if this is a software corruption issue or a hardware issue. I have not dropped my iPhone or done anything else to it that might have damaged it.  I have tried resetting the wireless networks on my iPhone & that has not worked. I have read these boards & have tried the various suggestions, including the one about putting your iPhone in the freezer.  (When I told my husband about trying the freezer suggestion he seriously thought I had lost my marbles...)
I would appreciate any other thoughts or suggestions that anyone has.

I have a diff issue!!! I has still able to connect to wifi network I had connected before the update to 6.1.2. But few days back when I tried connecting to a new wifi network and it kept saying incorrect password. The worst thing happened after I look up online for help that say try the " reset network setting" solution!! After I did the "reset network setting" step I bloody **** looses all connection to those network I had connected to before the update and I can't get back connection now. *** did apple still allow their users to update a software that has so many bugs. They should had prevent their users from updating right after they know there are bugssssss..!!!!!
