1 ipod 2 laptops

I bought my other half a new ipod touch and wondered if we could both load our music on the same ipod. Obviously we have 2 different itunes accounts. If so how do we load both itunes on. Thanks

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:

  • Can anyone help me recover photos I have deleted from my ipod (& laptop)?

Basically I am selling my laptop and so I thought I'd use the ipod as a means of storing my photos for future transfer to another laptop.
So I synched it all, all fine, then I deleted half the photos from my laptop (to get it ready to sell) and connected up the ipod again (for something else) and now I look and the ipod has synched and has also deleted those photos too!!
They didn't go to the recycle bin when I deleted them from my laptop (a warning message said they were too big so would be permenantly deleted) - has anybody got any ideas of how I can recover these lost files? Is there a way??
Thanks in advance if you can help....

You're going to need to some data recovery software as mentioned in this post.

Other than that, you're out of luck.

  • About to throw ipod & laptop out the window

I received a ipod nano for Christmas and hate it already! I plugged it into my laptop that has Windows XP and got an error message stating I didn't have a high-speed USB port on my laptop. I tried both USB ports and have no idea how to get the error message to go away. All I want is songs, shouldn't that be easy enough?

To find out what USB you have, right click on 'My Computer' then click on 'Properties' then click on 'Hardware' then click on 'Device Manager' then click on 'Universal Serial Bus controllers'. If you see Enhanced Controller, then you should have USB 2.0. If not, you do not have it.

  • Car stolen - lost iPod, Laptop AND back-up thumb drive

    Hi -
My car was stolen in May and I lost everything...my iPod Nano (5th gen), my laptop with my iTunes songs on it, and my thumb drive that I'd used to back up all of my documents/songs/photos that were on my laptop and on my iPod.
Is there any way I'd be able to recover the songs that I'd purchased?

Sorry to hear that. I'm also sorry to say that officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased items other than iPhone/iPod touch applications. The official statement of their policy can be found here, among other places. This is the reason you don't want to keep your backups in the same place as your device. You may be out of luck and will have to purchase all of your music again.
You can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting and you'll find a button to send e-mail to them) and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis. But don't count on it.
    Good luck.

  • Desktop reads iPod, laptop no longer will.

I have an original video iPod (yup, still in use) that I mostly use for music storage.  My Mac desktop reads the ipod, no problem.  My laptop has stopped reading it. I've tried different cables.  Suggestions???

MORE ON THIS:  iPod shows up on the desktop, iTunes opens, but it doesn't load the music.

  • Ipod/laptop connection issue.

Basically my computer wont detect my ipod at all.
The Ipod isnt new i got it last christmas, its an ipod touch 16gb. It worked up until i rebooted my computer and reinstalled itunes. My ipod still has everything on it but it wont detect with my computer or itunes, i have also logged into my account on itunes successfully.
    Ive tried:
1.Turning computer off and then on.
    2.Reinstalling itunes.
3.Turning ipod off and then back on.
4.Re-booting ipod by holding the lock and menu buttons together.
5.Tried more than 1 USB port.
6.unistalling + reinstalling USB controllers and USB drivers
I may have missed something ive tried, but if someone mentions it, ill say.
The cable included with my ipod could be broken due to a split in it but it still works when it is plugged into the mains using a mains adapter it still works, also my brothers cable works on my ipod too to charge it but not to connect it.
Thx in advance, this has been a problem for a while now and im tired of it after trying almost everything =/

I have already tried this, as it continued from the AMDS guide. No luck
EDIT: just plugged in again when the ipod was unlocked and it worked this time but now i have the problem that the computer gives me the option to install it as a camera/scanner or to install it with photoshop =/ how can i get it to install with itunes because my computer thinks its a camera O_o?
EDIT 2: I changed the scanner and camera options so that it wouldn't be detected as a camera and now its not detected at all again =/

  • 2 Libraries, 1 Ipod (laptop and desktop)

    Hi,
Is it possible to use my Ipod with my 2 PCs? I want to be able to sync it when I am at work, and then get home, rip tracks/download podcasts and sync those with the Ipod. Im happy for the 'other' machine to have to download podcasts again but will it 'upload' songs from the Ipod to the library? Also, I guess I should restrict purchasing on Itunes to just 1 machine?
Also, I really like the auto sync (as it copied my song ratings around) - can i use this with a 2 library approach?
    Thanks,
    Neil

You can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you just drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library. I don't listen to many podcasts but I suspect you'd have to choose not to sync those as well:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • HT204409 unable to connect my ipad to my wireless internet - all other devices including another ipad, ipods, laptops etc.. connect fine?

Can't seem to connect one of my ipads to our wireless network at home - every other device in the house is connected?
    any suggestions?

Did it ever connect? How about to other networks?
    Try this:
Reboot ipad by pressing and holding both the home and sleep/wake buttons at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go. Then try to connect to network.
Go to settings, Toggle airplane mode on/off. Make sure bluetooth is off. Turn on wif (airplane mode off). Try to connect.
    Reset Network Settings
Go to settings/general/reset/reset network settings. Then try to connect to network.
If its your home router, then reboot router by unplugging for 5-10min. (do this while you're resetting network settings).
If problem persists, then check for firmware updates on your router.(you check router manufacturer support website for downloads and instructions).

  • How do i import all the musics from iPod nano into my mac laptop??

could somebody please explain to  me how i can transfer my music from my listening ipod nano into my ipod laptop??? i'm very new to computer world so i apologize now if my question and future questions to most people will be laughable!!!! i can put music on listening ipod but i want to somehow store ALL the music from my listening ipod into my ipod laptop??? thankyou

You import then to your computer, then you sync them from computer to iPhone using iTunes.  Or, you make a backup of the iPhone 5, then restore that backup to the iPhone 6.

  • Can't connect to the internet with my iPod touch 4th gen.

So I have an iPod touch 4th gen. and have been able to get wifi from my computer with no problem but now it's not working. When I choose the network I've always used I see the 3 lines on top of the screen that show when it's connected to the internet but when I try to open iTunes, the App Store, etc. it says, "cannot connect to iTunes" or whatever it is that I'm trying to open.
I'm so frustrated! I already restarted both my iPod & laptop, connected then disconnected the modem, and resetted the network settings but it still doesn't work.
When i open troubleshoot problems, it says that the wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration, sorry if I'm too stupid but what's an IP configuration? How can I fix this?
    Please help me!

Does the iPod connect to other networks?
Do other devices now connect? ( I thin yo are say no. In that case you have a router problem.  Try powering off and then back on the router. Next try changing the security on the router. Test it with no security. The reset ther router. Last, get a new router.)
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Is there a way to get music from an iPod to a computer?

Most of my music is on my home computer, and everything is fine. I bought a laptop, and installed the software on it, as well. I went to see a relative, and she put a bunch of songs on my iPod from her computer. That is all fine, and dandy, but they are very disorganized. I would like to sort them out, under a folder with her name on it. Furthermore, she swears up and down, that it can work as a portable hard drive, and I should be able to import the music she put on there, onto my computer.
I can see the music she put on there, in iTunes, under my iPod icon, but it won't let me do anything to it, other than rename the songs. It won't let me drag the files into a playlist, or anything.
Under the iPod settings, i have it set to manually update, which should allow me to select which songs I want to import, but then it 'grays out' the "enable disk use" checkbox underneath. When I go to set it back to automatic, it tells me that it will replace everything on my iPod with whatever I have in my library---Essentially wiping out all of the songs she put on there.
I just want to be able to have my iPod, laptop, and Computer synced. What can I do?

That is the way the iTunes/iPod system is supposed to
work. We suspect that it was developed to prevent
illegal 'sharing' of copyrighted music across PCs and
    separate users.
You may not get many (if any) other responses to this
question. If you are asking us for
assistance in how to share copyrighted
music, please understand that we cannot help.
    Unfortunately, the Apple Discussions ‘Terms
of Use’ for these Forums explicitly prohibit
anyone here from encouraging, or directly
facilitating the 'sharing’ of copyrighted music as
    you describe.
The music industry and Apple considers it 'stealing'
and we or you can get our posts locked, removed, or
be given a temporary or permanent vacation. Sorry.
yes, that is what I originally heard, and understood. I tried to tell her that, but she swears it can be done. We are both into music production, and much of the music she put on there is her own. I tried to get some of MY stuff into her computer, but was unable to. Even non-copyrighted material cannot be shared. Not even family photos?
Let's assume that I cannot get the music, (even her original stuff that, obviously, I have permissions for), from my iPod, inot either of my computers. Is there even a way to organize the files she put in there? I would really like to put it into a separate folder, or playlist. Surely, there must be a way to organize the music, without exporting it?

  • Sky hd box interference with laptop

Hi Everyone I am having a rather odd problem , we have 2 sky hd boxes , 1 downstairs and 1 upstairs both are connected to the internet via wi-fi , we also have a multitude of devices that also use the internet via wi-fi in the house like ipods laptops x-box desktop computer and mobiles  , the problem is when the laptop is being used the sky hd box UPSTAIRS  loses connection and i get an error message saying cannot support hdcp ??? this only happens with these 2 devices , i can be on my mobile , the xbox can be on and the UPSTAIRS box can be fine , or i can be on the laptop and the DOWNSTAIRS box is fine but soon as we are UPSTAIRS watching telly and the laptop goes on ...bang we lose the connection and get this error message..... any help ????

Hi  it's been a while, I know, but have you managed to fix this? If so, how did you do it?
If not, it's something Sky may want to do some work on, so can you tell us:
Your Sky+HD box model number (Services > Settings > Details)
The make & model of TV
Other than your Sky box, what other equipment do you have connected to the TV's HDMI ports?
Does unplugging them correct the issue?
    Thanks for your help.

  • 4th Gen iPod touch = Strong as Snowflake

Apple, I have been a loyal customer for years. I have owned four ipods and cherished every one of them. Although each one has invariably broken, I still replace them because the software design and simplicity of the hardware are unrivaled. Unfortunately, the hardware has apparently gotten too simple. The materials that make up the 4G ipod touch are so flimsy that it almost breaks in your hand.
This morning my 3 month old 64GB iPod touch 4G decided that the ground looked like a comfortable place to rest and took a dive from my lap (I was seated) onto the linoleum floor of my class. It wasn't a particularly far fall, as I've had phones, former ipods, laptops and all variety of electronic equipment make the trip before with varying degrees of damage. Usually the damage is minimal, with a few scuffs on the edges being the worst extent. However, my little delicate state of the art iPod hit the ground and not only cracked the screen so bad that chunks of it are now missing, but it bent the aluminum casing on the corner of the device so that replacing becomes another issue entirely.
I am not a physicist, but I have a pretty good concept of gravity, and the distance of the fall seems completely disproportionate to the level of damage to the device. Upset, but undeterred, I called tech support as soon as I returned from class. Someone promptly answered, and I explained the issue. Not expecting a free repair from Apple, I was prepared to pay a fee to have the screen and quite possibly the casing replaced. What I was unprepared for was the price...
$199 for the screen replacement alone. $199. $199?!! What? Thats over half of what I paid for the new device in the first place! So you are trying to tell me that not only will Apple not replace the screen with an extended coverage warranty if you purchased one, but they charge an outrageous fee for the replacement of perhaps the most common component part on the iPod! How can you produce a product intended to be carried with a person through the bruising ordeal we lovingly know as life, that falls apart after just the slightest disturbance?!
From what I understand about chemistry, there are alloys, plastics, and glass products out there that are capable of withstanding disruptions as strong (or stronger than) a speeding bullet. Apple, you manufacture a sensitive electronic device that you charge an exorbitant sum for, (and because it is an incredible piece of technology the price is probably justified), but the one thing which that price does NOT justify is the delicacy of parts that are most likely to be placed under duress, most notably the screen. If I purchase a product, I expect it to meet a few standards. I have dropped iPods before, from far greater distances on much harder surfaces, and been upset with the scuffs on the corners, but still satisfied that it was still intact and worked fine. This time I am stuck with a mandatory repair, because there is a gaping hole exposing the internal structure of the device and the headphone plug-in has become partially obstructed by a bent piece of metal from the rim.
This instance appears to be one of many being faced by my fellow 4th Generation Touch owners. The girl whom I spoke to on tech support even mentioned that her screen shattered after a similar incident last night. Undoubtedly this product went through rigorous testing, to determine if it had the capability to withstand the shocks of everyday life...so my question is how....how could you develop and sell such an expensive and in-demand product which is so poorly engineered that the costs of repairing a simple, common, accidental malfunction are half as much as the original product itself?
If the materials used to produce the object are so expensive to repair or replace, then why have more measures not been taken to strengthen them so that repairs will be less common? How could you manufacture iPods that were more durable three years ago than they are now? That is innovation in the wrong direction and for the wrong reasons. I am a cynic, but I don't want to believe that you would knowingly release a product that is less durable than its predecessors. I understand it makes good "business" sense because you can now charge more for replacements and repairs than you would if the machines last forever. You don't make money from one time business, I understand, but one thing Apple used to be known for was top notch customer service, and if one component on your product is likely to break from the slightest disturbance, and then the cost to repair it is so astronomical that merely replacing it becomes a viable option, then it makes sense from a service standpoint to offer a discounted or even complementary repair!!
I know you are a public company, and I have made an investment in you. I own a share of your company in the sense that I have faithfully purchased your products and have therefore helped you meet that magical EPS valuation that has allowed your stock to prosper. While the shares I own now aren't on paper, they are currently keeping paper weighted to my desk.
I have already spent thousands of dollars on your products, and I have asked very little in return, since the utility and joy I received from using them have been all the return I need. However, when the new product you make is so fragile that the slightest disturbance can effectively (in terms of $) render it worthless, I expect a little more in return. All I am asking for is for a reasonable cost of replacing broken parts on your device. I know that there are third party companies which can do the repair for cheaper, but since you control the monopoly for the parts, the cost of their service is still reliant on your prohibitively expensive materials.
Please, please, please figure out a way to reduce the cost of repairing cracked screens, or include a method for insuring within the warranty so that customers like myself, a student, who can't afford to pay an extra and exorbitant tithe for what should be a cheap repair aren't left out in the cold with another expensive paper weight.
    Sincerely,
    Aaron Wynhausen

I too have had this problem.  Except, I never dropped my ipod touch 4th gen. 64GB.  I simply pulled it out of an internal pocket in my bag (With nothing else inside of it) and it was shattered from top to bottom.  I've been an Apple fan for a long time.  I own a Macbook pro and my family and I have owned ipods in the past and never have I had a problem with their products being so flimsily made.  I am extremely disappointed with the treatment I got when I called customer relations and frustrated that my only option is to pay $200 for my $400 dollar product to be fixed. If I invest in something that expensive, I expect it to be able to withstand normal wear and tear.  I don't want my portable product to shatter with no explanation.
I will be telling everyone about Apple's complete disregard for their loyal customers, especially if so many other people have been having the exact same problem. I know and understand the Apple warranty but it seems that if the product is horribly and carelessly made, then something needs to be done.  I would have never invested in this product if I had known how delicate it was.  The ipod touch 4th generation does not meet my expectations and for sure does not come close the quality of other products I have bought from Apple.

  • Trying to move iPod classic to new PC, won't sync or transfer purchases

I've already transferred the library from the old PC to the new PC, deauthorized the old PC and authorized the new PC. My son's ipod classic shows up in iTunes on the new pc, but when I click on either SYNC or TRANSFER PURCHASES, nothing happens. No alarms, no questions, nothing.
Any ideas? Need to get this done before he heads back to school next week.

If, as I think is the case, all your tunes are on your ipod not on your new laptop then you need to copy them from ipod->laptop.
Google 'itunes computer copy' for example, to find a program to do it. Other words might work 'ipod computer copy'?
