1 ipod, 2 PCs

Hi,
I'm sure this question has been answered before but I can't find it.
My girlfriend has an iPod mini, and I want to put audible content from my PC on it. Is this do-able?
Thanks,
Bruce

Hi,
First, your post is in the wrong section. Here is shuffle help, and Your question is About your Girlfriend's MINI.
Second. Yes, you can put audible content on your iPod.

  • One iPod, two PCs.  iPod no longer recognized on on PC after latest updater

I have a 4G 20GB with color display that I sync to 2 PCs; my DT at home where my music library is, and my office laptop where I manage Podcasts.
About 2 weeks ago, after updating to iT6 (6.0.3) and the 1-10 updater, my laptop stopped recognizing my iPod - I get the message "USB Device not recognized". My DT sees the iPod fine.
I have tried all the R's twice, no help. Restoring and re-loading the library allowed it to sync 2-3 times, but now I am back where I started. I cannot afford the time to re-load 18GB every time I want updated podcasts on my iPod, and do not want to use my dt (actually my kid's PC) every time I want to get new podcasts.
    Any suggestions? TIA

That's what i was afraid of...but that's extra work and doesn't allow you to jump to a certain track.
Thanks for the response- sounds like I either have to settle for keeping the iPod i've got and never putting new music onto it...or break down and spend the money on a new one. This one is barely past its warranty, tho, so it's tough to spend that kind of $ yet again for another iPod that won't last very long.
Does anyone know of any 3rd party repair people who can fix iPod touch?

  • IPod 5G: Disk use on both Macs and PCs.

    Greetings,
I have an iMac and iPod. I have selected option "Enable Disk Use" in iTunes.
When using iPod as a external disk on my iMac,all works ok.
Problem is when I plug my iPod into a PC. The PC shows an error message: "The disk in drive F is not formated. Do you want to format it now?". Is this how is supposed to be? How can I use iPod as an external disk when PC doesn't recognize it? Can someone explain this? I know that there are different formating for Macs and PCs, but since I am connecting via USB, it should not be a problem. I am connecting my memory card reader/writer (via USB) to both PCs and Mac and it works. The same is with my digital camera, works on both platforms. And what is even more strange, when I restore iPod on PC and sync in iTunes on PC, with enabling disk use, I can use it on both platforms.
Thank you in advance for replies,
    JK

It is because your iPod is formatted in Mac format which Window machines can not read (regardless if you are using USB or not; it does matter).
If you reformatted the iPod for Windows, then you can use it on both systems since Macs can read Windows formatted iPod just fine.

  • My new 7th gen NANO cannot be connected on either my Windows 7 or VISTA PCs. I have updated to ensure I have the latest iTunes version. When connecting I did not get the setup screens but the NANO assumed the identity of an older IPod. I have reset

I am having problems setting up a new 7th gen IPod NAN or both my Windows 7 and Windows Vista PCs. When first connecting I did not get the setup screens and cannot sync existing media. The NANO assumed the name of a previously installed IPod touch and resetting does not clear this name. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.updating driver software and resetting the NANO without any success

Purchased as new at Best Buy. As far as I know it was noever formatted prior to my purchase

  • 5th Gen Ipod Touch not recognised 2 windows pcs and my mac mini, Itune up to date, tried DFU and recovery, returned from apple inspection as working, still no joy, anyone elese had this problem, any ideas?

Since we had the ipod touch since xmas we have had slight problems with charging and connecting to itunes, i sent back to Apple to repair/inspect, they have returned it back as working fine, tried 2 different windows pcs, my mac mini and cannot get the ipod to connect, Windows tries installing drivers only to say it has failed, uninstall try again, go into recovery mode and dfu, nothing seems to work. I have 2 ipads an iphone 4s which all connect faultlessly. Any ideas?

Have you tried another cable? Some iPods were shipped with cable that either did no work initially or shortly failed.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Bring the cable too.

  • HT1420 I have 2 iPads, 1 iPhone, 1 iPod, 2 PCs, and 1 Macbook pro.

What's with the 5 limit to register in the same account? Why not 10?
I bought a new iPad and gave iPad 1 to wife. Bought her iPod, I have iPhone, 2 PCs (Dell and HP) and a MacBook pro.
So Apple figures that's too many.
I figure it's too many Apple products since they don't want me to own more than 5 things. Sorta stupid, but, well, okay.

The 5 limit apllies ONLY to computers.  NOT ipods/iphones/ipads/Apple tvs.  They are NOT authorized at all.  ONLY computers.
Maybe you should understand this before you rail against it.

  • Had iPod for 5 years on 5 pcs. Sold 4 pcs

Had iPod for 5 years on 5 pcs. Sold 4 pcs & have 1 version left.
Bought new laptop but Apple says I reached my download limit - how can I get iTunes on new laptop??

Downloading and installing iTunes have nothing to do with authorization to an iTunes Store account. An iTunes Store account isn't at all necessary to install and use iTunes and there is no limit as to how many systems you can have iTunes installed on. If you're unable to get iTunes downloaded and installed, you have a different problem. We'll need full details about the problem, including where things break down in the process and the exact error message(s), before we can offer suggestions on that issue.
    Regards.

  • Sync an iPod to 2 different PCs?

I have the 80gb iPod, and the 160gb Classic:
Just bought the new iTouch and waiting for it to arrive...
Both have the same exact files loaded, one just has more room (obviously).
Both PCs libraries have the same files but I travel and do not want to erase and re-load when I switch over to my laptop!
My dilema: Since both iPods and both PCs have the same files loaded in the libraries and iPods, how can I avoid the pop up message that says "This iPod is Sync'd with a diffeent library, do you wish to erase and reload with the new library?".
I travel so I disconnect from my desktop and when I connect to my laptop the above happens! When I return home and connect to my desktop and put the laptop away, the mesage reappears as I'm now connecting with my desktop library.
Can't find a solution in any of the manuals or forums.
    Any help appreciated....

    Thanks!!!
One question...the article only speaks of music, If I drag and drop a MOVIE file to the iPod icon will it drop it into the movie folder or will it drop it into the Music folder?
Is iTunes smart enough to know the CORRECT folder to place the file in that's being added?

  • Sharing 1 library with 2 iPods  on 4 PCs and a NAS drive - possible?

Anyone managed to do anything similar to my setup as per subject line?
I've only just got an iPod so please tell me if I'm looking at this the wrong way but...
The idea is that all my music (CD ripped mp3s) is stored on a NAS drive on my home network. I create a library for my iPod on the NAS drive so any new CDs I rip on my PC also go straight onto the NAS drive. My GF connects her iPod to her PC which picks up the same library off the NAS, similarly when she rips CDs it'll update the same library. When I use my laptop or media centre PC they'll also pick up the same library off the same NAS drive.
Is this all too simple? Am I missing something? i.e. only one iPod per library allowed, or only one PC per library allowed? What would happen if both me and my GF connected to the library at the same time?
A lot of questions, I know, many many many thanks for anyone that that can answer some of them.
    cheers

Sounds mighty tricky, but possible. Exactly the kind of thing I would waste days working on!
Is the music all stored on the NAS drive?
I would try and have a single library. You could create two playlists to handle the iPods and stream music to the other PCs. This way any music additions etc. would only have to be done once. In this case I would keep the library with the music on the NAS drive.
Alternatively, you would have a separate library on each PC accessing the music on the NAS drive right? In this case any music additions / deletions on the NAS drive would have to be reflected in all libraries. I've written a perl script that looks for music in the iTunes music directory that's not currently in iTunes -- could be adapted into an applescript that automatically adds the songs to a new playlist. Problem is, you're on windows...

  • Windows Vista: Ipod Error Message, no longer read by PCs

    Hello,
I have a 5th generation black ipod video with 30GB of memory.
The other day I hooked it up to my laptop (Toshiba, 4 months old) that it's been functioning on with no problems whatsoever. This weird error message flashed twice about it not being able to sync because of some software problem.
Eversince then, the only thing I can charge my ipod on is the family treadmill in the basement (~_~) as no other computer in the house recognizes it. I can't even charge it through the wall sockets, either.
I have changed the ipod cord, still no luck. I've also reset the device about 3 or 4 times and uninstalled, restarted the laptop then reinstalled itunes. I would like to reset it back to factory settings but that's impossible as computers/laptops don't pick it up. I live very far from a Mac store...
What's a girl to do? I can't live without my Busta Rhymes and Wu-Tang Clan!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • IPod touch not being recognized by iTunes on my MacBook, and on 2 other PCs

    Hello,
After scouring the web and these discussion forums to no avail, I've decided to post my problem. I downloaded iTunes 8.0 yesterday, and updated the firmware on my iPod Touch to 1.1.5. I tried connecting my iPod, and nothing happened. It is not being recognized by my MacBook. So, I tried using another USB iPod connector, and nothing happened. I tried using a firewire connector, and nothing happened. Frustrated, I tried connecting to my one roommate's HP laptop and see if it would get recognized there - no. I then tried on my other roommate's laptop. The device was recognized to be USB, but iTunes wouldn't go ahead and try and reformat it. I'm starting to lose my mind! I've tried resetting the iPod touch itself loads of times to no success. I've tried restarting while having the iPod connected to the computer, and still nothing.
    What should I do now?

Sorry about not getting to you on the quick-fast, but we aren't Apple employees.
What ended up being the solution you needed, as you said, you couldn't find any information already posted on this problem, so documenting your fix may help someone in the future.

  • 2 iPods, 2 PCs, one iTunes account

..and 2 people with different tastes. Just got the 2nd iPod, and don't want to mess this up. What would be the best way to pay with one account, and continue to dedicate one iPod per PC?

So problem solved...not sure if it had anything to do with it but I changed the room (ie Family Room Apple TV) from the drop down and it is perfectly fine....so they are now 2 distinct locations...
    No idea,,,,

"when i connect the shuffle to my lap top, with a itunes as well, it says, if you synch, all data will removed, so what do i have to do, to keep my songs on the shuffle"
You can choose cancel when you get the message but you can't load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto an iPod Shuffle. Unlike other iPods, the shuffle is designed to be used with a single computer:

"and how can tranfer music from the shuffle on my lap top on further on itunes on lap top?. is this possible, how?"
Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in iTunes enable it for disk use, this is required for most if not all the utilities listed below so they can access the files: Using your iPod as a storage drive
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files from your iPod Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward but check out those that specifically state they will work with the shuffle. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

Another way to get music from one computer to another is to enable your iPod for disk use and transfer the files using the iPod as a straightforward USB device. Just drag the song files you want onto it from one computer, transport them to the other and add them to the iTunes library.
