1 .mac account - 2 macs?

If I publish a iWeb site on my MacBook Pro, will it overwrite my main iWeb site from my G5?
Anyone?

Dan:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you're using the same Domain.sites file that you used on the G5 and the site is the same name. then yes it will overwrite the pages you made changes to just as if you had made the edits and published from your G5.
If you're creating an entirely new site then the original site will remain but the default page that comes up when you enter the basic URL, http://web.mac.com/your account name/iWeb/, will the the new site or the last site published. That's because that URL points to the index.html file that resides in our iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb folder. When you have multiple sites, the last one published is pointed to by that file.
Do you Twango?

  • Can i delete .mac account in mac mail now i have icloud set up?

I've just upgraded to icloud. now my mac mail has my .mac email and my icloud email. both are exactly the same.
Is it safe for me to delete the .mac account from my list of accounts (in preferences) in mac mail now, as icloud is listed as an account?
I would think i'm just getting everything twice, but nervous to delete the .mac one, incase that is what icloud is mimicking?
    thanks

My only conclusion is that .mac is mapped to the email server for iCloud.  I would say that you can remove the .mac account from your email app, since the iCloud account has all the old email.  Since this is an IMAP account, even deleting the iCloud account from the ipad won't hurt, since you can redefine it and all your email will still be available.  My only reason for suggesting the test, above, was to see how the old .mac account was handled (totally removed or just referencing the iCloud server).  I suspect the .mac account will eventually be totally removed.

  • Multiple Sites, Multiple Domains, one .mac account?

So, is this possible? Can you create multiple sites in iWeb, save them to a .mac account, and then purchase domain names for each of those sites and have one assigned to each? I'm assuming no, but I'm seeing if someone knows how or someone has some workaround to keep it on .mac, but have multiple domain names for my sites?
    Thanks!!

    No.

Yes and no. While .Mac does offer Domain name hosting in the form of a CNAME alias, only one Domain name is available per .Mac account. .Mac is not a registrar for multiple Domains. You can host multiple sites on your .Mac account, but if you desire a 'Domain name' for each site, you will need to purchase the Domains from a registrar like Yahoo, GoDaddy, 1&1, etc, and then forward these Domains to the appropriate sites, hosted on your .Mac account.

The "workaround" would be to utilize Domain forwarding from a Domain name registrar, using the .Mac urls for the forwarding address(es).

  • SAme message corrupted on MacBook but not on Imac using same .MAC account

I have recently upgraded to Leopard on both my iMac and MacBook. I have a .MAC account and use Mobile. I have one message (received yesterday) that looks fine on my iMAC but is corrupted on my MacBook. I also upgraded to Time Capsule and had just completed my first backup of my iMAC that morning (I don't intend to turn TM on on my MacBook). Any ideas??

FYI: it's a .Mac account, not .MAC, and you have an iMac, not iMAC.
That said, when did this problem first start (after upgrading to 10.5.x or before)? Did you check to see that the settings for each Mac are exactly the same in every respect? What have you done to resolve the problem, if anything?
I would first boot from the Mac OS X instal disc and after you get past the language screen, go to the Utilities menu and choose Disk Utility. Then use that to Repair Disk (not any problems it finds), then Repair Permissions. When that's done, reboot from the startup disk as normal, eject the installer disc and try Mail again to see if the problem persists.

  • Accessing iCal from .mac account

I've been able to publish my iCal without trouble, but I'm wondering if I can access and edit my calendar from a different (and PC) computer, while in my .mac account? Or, am I only able to edit it while in the iCal application?
Also, am I able to view my calendar from my .mac page, without publishing it for the public? I'd like to look at it from work... but don't need/want my friends viewing it!

See this thread: Amy Vandawalker, "ical and multiple computers", 03:31pm Aug 29, 2005 CDT
The short answer is no; you can't edit iCal calendars from a PC. You need a .Mac account and Macs to edit.
Seems like everyone has the same problem.
As far as private publishing, .Mac is not private as far as publishing Calendars go (though someone would have to know or guess you .mac name and calendar name to get to it).
Alternatively you can use iCalX: http://www.icalx.com/
    It apparently has password protection.

  • Cannot send email from Mail through .mac account

I have recently opened a .mac account and started using the email service. It works fine online however I am having difficulty sending messages through the Mail application in Tiger.
Whenever I attempt to send a message, a dialog box appears saying "Cannot send message using the server smtp.mac.com".
I have tried looking at the setting in preferences. I have deleted and .mac a/c setting in Mail and re-set them up, all the problem persists.
    Please help!

    Hello David.
Who is your ISP used for connecting to the internet and are you accessing an email account snd SMTP server in Mail provided by your ISP?
If so, can you send messages with the email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP?
Most, if not all ISPs now block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP used for connecting to the internet) on Port 25 which is the standard port used for SMTP servers. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only (such as the .Mac SMTP server) that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
These restrictions are part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
    Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings below for the .Mac SMTP server.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
Test if this resolves the problem.
If not and you are accessing an email account and SMTP server in Mail that is provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your .Mac account which is invisible to all recipients.

  • Cannot send email from icloud account from mac

cannot send email from icloud account from mac running 10.8.2

The SMTP server you are using with Wi-Fi would be the outgoing server of your internet service provider... this is likely why that's working.
SMTP servers specific to a ISP would not work on the 3G network. You would probably need another SMTP server. One from your cell provider?

  • Multiple .Mac accounts, on one Admin account on one computer

    Hello all,
I am trying to have multiple .Mac accounts to publish independent iWeb websites on unique domains (the apple iweb provided ones) but it appears I can only have one .Mac account on my computer's network user to do the easy one click Publish button to.
I don't want to use multiple user accounts on my computer as I'd like to have access to all my photos, music, videos and everything else and easily do so without logging out from my main account.
    What am I missing?
    Many thanks,
    Michael

The only safe and easy method is multiple user accounts.
You can easily store your iPhoto and music Libraries on an external drive and share them between accounts.

  • How can I set up email so I can send iPhoto without using a .mac account?

    Hello!
I am trying to send an iPhoto via email. Since I do not want to set up the .mac account yet, how do I correctly set the email send and receive perimeters? POP?
I want to use my yahoo email.
    Thanks!
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Thanks again Allan.
I figured out the AOL iChat LATE last night.
I finally got my email up and running. I called Cox to get the correct POP and SMTP addresses. It still wasn't sending, I spoke with Apple who confirmed I had all my perimeters set up correctly. Back to Cox. After a couple frustrating hours, the only reason the email was not sending was that Cox did not support the SSL that I had checked off.
The great thing about Mac (which I kept overlooking) was when I was trying to send my email, it was giving me hints for example the error message smtp.etc is not connecting with the SSL. I could have saved myself some trouble by unchecking that and testing it earlier.

  • HT2623 I forgot the password for my .mac account and cannot log into it from Apple Mail.  I have an iCloud mail account but did not convert my .mac account to iCloud.  How can I log into my .mac or .me email?

I set up .mac, including email, around 2006.  I believe my .mac account became a .me account, but I continued to receive email sent to .mac until about March 2013.
I accessed my .mac account using Apple Mail on an iMac running OS X 4.11.  I'm still using that machine.
In July 2013, I upgraded my MacBook Pro to OS X 8.5, bought an iPod Touch and set up an iCloud account.
I forgot my .mac password and I want to open an email message sent to my .mac email account.
When I attempt to log into my .mac account using Apple Mail, my password attempts are rejected by a .me mail server.
Is there any way I can restore my access to my .mac or .me email?
    Thanks,
    William Postman

  • Using a different .Mac account in iPhoto

We have a .Mac family pack. My wife and I each have a personal account and we would like to use a completely different .Mac account to post our web galleries, but I don't want to have to create a new user on my Mac just to use iPhoto. Is there a way that iPhoto can use a different .Mac account than the one associated with my user account on my computer to publish galleries?
    Thanks,
    Aaron

    For POP:
    The following mail server settings will work with all AT&T email domains: @ameritech.net, @att.net, @bellsouth.net, @flash.net, @nvbell.net, @pacbell.net, @prodigy.net, @sbcglobal.net, @snet.net, @swbell.net, @wans.net.
    Email Program Settings Field:
    Enter:
    Incoming (POP)
    inbound.att.net
    Outgoing (SMTP)
    outbound.att.net(requires authentication)
    Incoming mail server:
    POP3
    Incoming/Outgoing User Name:
Full AT&T email address, including domain (e.g., [email protected], [email protected])
    Incoming mail port #:
    995, secure connection (SSL) checked
    Outgoing mail port #
    465, secure connection (SSL) checked
I assume the settings you are refering to gives that delay for marking the messages as read when highlighted for that period of time. Probably for scrolling through the list without changing the unread status. Lion doesn't have that selection, so I can't test that at the moment.

  • Whats the difference between using a .mac account and an AIM account?

hi, i'm trying to set up ichat to videochat with home when i'm abroad. Will two AIM accounts satisfy or do i have to have a family .mac account? i really dont see the point in paying 200 bucks for the .mac account if you can do the same thing with a free AIM account.
    thanks
    Tom

    Hi
    Either will do for free.
Free 60day trial(click on free trial on the top) here http://www.apple.com/dotmac/ keep your .mac name after the 60days.
or free AIM name here http://www.aim.com/ click on "get a screen name"

  • How do I convert my existing iTunes account to a .mac account?

I am trying to convert my existing iTunes account which uses an Earthlink address. The following is the INSTRUCTIONS from the Apple web site on how to do this.
"I just signed up for .Mac. How do I convert my existing iTunes account to
    my new .Mac account?
We'll be happy to convert your account for you. Please provide your old account name, your new .Mac account name and your billing address in your email. We will also need your explicit permission to reset your password to complete the conversion."
This is the URL where I found those INSTRUCTIONS:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/email/
    I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE!
I am now on my fifth exchange of emails with iTunes support.
HAS ANYBODY SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTED THESE INSTRUCTIONS? I don't want to lose the ability to play my existing purchased music, but I want to close down Earthlink as my ISP.

On any page in the iTunes Store, click the flag icon at the lower right.  This brings up a page saying "Choose your country or region."  Click Canada.
Before you can buy anything, you will need to enter your Canadian credit card.

  • How do I add an email address for a family member to my .mac account?

Can I add an email address for my mother to my .mac account?  I'd like to set up, manage and pay for an email address for her use.  I thought this was possible but can't seem to navigate myself to the place where I can get an additional address.

So, after further reading I assume that I must ad an apple id for my mother.  Is this correct?  Can I, as the responsible party, control purchases and apps that are added to the device I have provided her?  I'm not so worried about what she might do as I am what a grandchild might do without her knowledge.

Is that a MobileMe account? Perhaps try the instructions for common desktop mail clients. Obviously the dialogs are different, but if the Pre doesn't already know about the authentication requirements, you might need to check a few more boxes.
