1 week old macbook pro with 2.5 hrs battery time

I love this product but battery life is driving me insane.
I updated my old macbook pro to the new unibody. I transfered my pre system using time machine. I just realized that when fully charged my new computer has 2.5 hrs of battery time. This is also with better battery life selected under sys. preferences. this cant be normal right?
should I reinstall SL? you think my old macbook pro transfered some unwanted system bits?
thanks in advance

take it in to the apple store, i'm 100% sure they will replace it free of charge, just got mine replaced today, it was 6 months old holding about 3.5 hours of charge

  • Replacing my 2 week old Macbook Pro.

i've had my MacBook Pro for about 2 weeks now
within the first week i noticed problems with my display, well lid.
it has bubbles on the top of the lid, the edge of the screen is popped out, and the lid won't close evenly
now, if i go to an Apple Store and tell them my problems with a 2 WEEK OLD MACBOOK PRO,
will they replace my current MacBook Pro? or will they just replace the screen?
and i do have Apple Protection Plan for 3 years..

well is it possible for them to fix it there?
oh and how long could that take for them to send it to apple?
sorry if im in anyway pushy or something
its just this is my first macbook pro and i dont want to be going back and forth to the apple store whch is an hour away from me.. thank you

  • My 1 week old macbook pro battery is dying.

my 1 week old macbook pro battery is dying. i charged it to 100% then went to bed and this morning it is at 32% when turned on. What the heck?

my light does not flash in sleep mode.
Which means it isn't sleeping. Run the Console and put the computer sleep. Experiement with the sleep command and closing the lid. Does it sleep with the sleep command but not the lid? Does it not sleep in either case. In the Console, by default, you'll see all the messages that are logged. Pay attention to when you close the lid or execute the sleep command and pay attention to the log entries that occur at that time and shortly afterwards. You might find a sleep terminated type message which will give you a clue about why it isn't sleeping.
There are also programs that are known to cause insomnia. At the head of my list are all it one printer software because the drivers often constantly look for an incoming fax or the keypress from the AIO printer console.
One more thing - if you have been putting it to sleep and then disconnecting USB or FireWire devices - that's the problem.

I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro with MAC OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto ’09 version 8.1.2 and have downloaded two software programs: one is Aperture 3.2 and the other is Photoshop Elements 9 (which I got from a friend who didn’t need it).
I am totally happy with the way iPhoto organizes my photos and how I can work with iMovie to create slide shows with music from iTunes, etc.
I have been shooting mostly high resolution jpegs and I continue to learn more and more about photography, post processing etc. I realize that the small adjustments I can make in iPhoto are good, and are adequate most of the time. However, a have started to experiment with shooting RAW images and would like to go the next step, ie. post processing.I am totally technically challenged and need SIMPLE, INTUITIVE programs and am certainly NOT anywhere ready for Photoshop CS whatever!
After having these programs sit on my computer, I decided to try to see if I could figure them out. When I opened Aperture, this is what first comes up.
    “Welcome to Aperture 3.2
Your library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of Aperture. Once upgraded, you will not be able to use this library with previous versions of Aperture.
Upgrading a library from previous versions of Aperture 3 generally takes a few minutes or less, though larger libraries will take longer. After that, Aperture 3.2 will upgrade your library's thumbnails, but you can use the application during that time.
Tip: To open a different library, quit Aperture and hold the Option key down while starting Aperture
    Current Library Location:
    Jadzia (home)   -----Pictures------Aperture Library
                                                      QUIT             UPGRADE”
I have heard horror stories  about moving your entire library to Aperture, ending up with 2 libraries, etc. etc. hence my previous reluctance in attempting Aperture. In addition, many of my photography friends are saying: Go with Lightroom 3.....you’ll love it!
So here is my dilemma.  I don’t want to mess around with my iPhoto library. All I want to be able to do, is to isolate a few photos, export them to Aperture, Elements, and work on them there, then bring them back into iPhoto.
Can I do this? Should I forget about Aperture and Elements and look at purchasing yet another program like Lightroom?

Export those few photos via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original to the Desktop.  Then import them into the Aperture library. That would keep one copy in your iPhoto library and another in your Aperture library to edit, etc.
You can use Photoshop Elements 9 from within iPhoto as your editor of choice. However, if you edit a raw file in iPhoto with PSE9 the resulting edited version must be saved outside the iPhoto Library and imported back in as a new file.  For editing jpegs just do a Save (not a Save As) and it all will be kept within iPhoto.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

Do you have your system backed up to Time Machine? If so, you can open your user Library and copy your Mail folder from Time Machine to your Desktop on your new machine; then copy THAT folder to your new machine's user Library.
To get to your user Library, open Finder and Go and press the Option key. Library will show up. Click on it to get into your user Library. Now go into Time Machine and you should see your user Library for Time Machine. Restore the Mail folder to your Desktop.

  • I am going to replace my 3 year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro Retina display machine.  I have been told by Apple that I can use the Migration Assistant ON MY WIRELESS NETWORK (no cables) to transfer data... I've read this can take AGES.. True?

I am planning to replace my 3+ year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro, Retina display... I have been told by "chat" on the Apple site that I can transfer my data wirelessly... on my network.. Is is a good option?  I don't want to invest in cables if I can help it... since the old machine has firewire and the new one has thunderbolt!  Will the wireless transfer take forever... as in 30-50 hours???  I've been hearing these horror stories...

My 3 year old MacBook Pro, with OS 10.7.1, won't play movie DVDs I burned on Panther.
    Why?

But to answer your question, you might be able to create a ISO of the DVD and burn that to a new DVD.
    Insert your DVD.
    Open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app.
In the left side of the window, select the “DVD”.
Click “New Image” from the Disk Utility toolbar and select where you want to save the temporary image. For “Image Format”, choose “DVD/CD master” and for “Encryption”, choose “none”.
The image extension in the “Save As” box will be .cdr (this is what you want) — click “Save”.
Once the temporary image is created, it will show up on the left side of the Disk Utility window. Select it.
Insert a blank DVD (I prefer Verbatim discs).
Click “Burn” from the Disk Utility toolbar.
Another problem could be that you burned the DVD using a codec that your new machine doesn't have.
Install Perian, VLC and Flip4Mac, that combination will play anything.
Also install Flash for web content and Silverlight for Netflix.

  • How can I tell the differences between the new MacBook Pro with retina display and the old MacBook Pro with retina display by looking

I'm just wondering the differences between the new MacBook Pro with retina display which was just released in October 2013 and the old MacBook Pro with retina display.

Thank you for the reply! As you said they looked exactly the same, so I'm not able to tell the differences just by looking, right? I'm thinking to buy a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with retina display, but I'm not buying the MacBook in Apple Store, I'm buying it in other shops, how can know whether they are not selling me the old model of MacBook Pro with retina display?

  • Old macbook Pro with a 17 inches used as a terminal

    Hello,
I have an old MacBook Pro with a 17 inch monitor and I am currently in the process of updating it to a new and more moderne model. I am thinking of switching to a desktop model, but I was wondering if I could use my old machine as a remote terminal to access my file on the new machine from a distance. I like the portability of my current machine, and it would be ideal as I would be able to benefit from a large monitor and still retain the portability aspect, within my house by using the old Pro...
    Does OSX allow for that?
How would I go at configuring it?
    thank you in advance!
    Sylvain

Electrically, using it as a simple Terminal is not possible.
But Screen Sharing is possible and works well, with smooth and quick enough results to use a mouse remotely, provided your local Network is fast enough.

  • I have an 11 week old Macbook Pro that has 15 charge cycles and the design capacity is at 91%, is that normal or should I take my laptop into the store?

Hi, everyone I'm just wondering whether my battery life is normal. I've only had this macbook pro for a few weeks. According to coconut battery, as well as the information under about this macbook. The macbook is 11 weeks old and after 15 charge cycles it is at 91% design capacity? Is this normal or do I have a faulty macbook?

The batteries are supposed to hold 80% at 1,000 charges now - not sure when this started but was a couple of years ago maybe.
Personally I would not worry too much. If you actually notice a signigicantly bad drop in battery life after some time, instead of just by looking at numbers on charts, then yes take it to Apple, but for now, just enjoy your computer.
After more charge cycles, it may become more accurate too - when I first got my MacBook Air it was on about 94% after only 15 charges or so, now it's on about 620 and is on 84% or so which is on par with the 1000 charges -> 80%.

  • Week old Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2010 alread has pixel out

I noticed the other day, I've already got a pixel out on my screen on my week old 13" MacBook Pro Mid 2010. Is there any quick fix to this or am I going to have to call Apple and send in my macbook after I pretty much just got it? Also, am I going to need to back up anything on my macbook before I send it in, or will they even mess with anything except for the screen? Thanks!

I would definitely check the defective product/return policy from where you bought it (if you didn't get it from Apple directly). I know that in the past it has been "acceptable" for a laptop or LCD display to have a couple of dead pixels, and store or manufacturer returns/replacements were only issued if there were a certain number of them (I've seen a minimum of 5 to 9, depending on the manufacturer) could be proven dead.

  • 3 week old Macbook Pro 2011 now has dot in middle of screen?

I bought my Macbook pro 2011 Hi-res 15" Glossy - Configured to Order  3 weeks ago from the Apple Online Store. After installing and playing a game this week, I notice that a grey dot appeared in the middle of the screen, especially noticeable when browsing on safari, with a white background.
Is this a dead pixel or stuck pixel? what should I do? What can Apple do?

Do you have access to an Apple Store? If so, take your Mac in for evaluation and ask. We are just fellow users, so we can't speak for Apple.
Pixel problems are a judgement call--Apple will determine what should be done on a case by case basis. If Apple determines that the display is unsatisfactory because of this flaw, you might possibly get a replacement display, especially since your problem is in the center.
    Good luck!

  • 2 week old MacBook Pro not charging

I bought a MacBook Pro only 2 weeks ago, and to my surprise, I am already having problems with it. Although the top tool bar shows the battery as charging, and it doesnt lose power while the power cord is connected, it is not charging. The battery power is stuck at 27%, unless I unplug the cord, which obviously causes the power to drain.
Why wont my brand new MacBook Pro charge?

    > Why wont my brand new MacBook Pro charge?
Reset the PMU (power management unit) and re-calibrate the Battery ?
If this fails to make any difference call Apple.

  • 1 week old macbook pro 17 keeps freezing randomly?

Hi,  I just bought a 17 inch 2011 early winter macbook pro a week ago and I upgraded my computer with the lion the second day. My problem started the third day of the purchase i started noticing lag in the beggining especially when i open the appstore the beach ball comes up and won't ever go away.yesterday my computer been freezing randomly i've been restarting it whenever this happens The freezes happen most frequently after the computer has been to sleep and woken up by opening the lid.. I have downloaded all the apple updates and my apps are all up to date I dont have anything on the startup,I have 690 gb free on my hard drive  I tried:     - deleting apps from running on the startup  - no widgets  - Stopping Bluetooth and wireless  - not opening i tunes  Nothing worked. I really don't know what to do,this is the first time i use mac.please help.

I would prefer to have acopy on Lion on a Flash memory or a DVD in order not to redownload it every time again. I guess you didn't take a copy of it after downloading from App Store and proceeded to install directly, right?
Ok, if that was the case,
    - Open the App Store again, click on purchased icon on the top, you will find the Lion as installed..
    - Click on purchased again while holding down options key (alt), the INSTALLED botton will be replaced by INSTALL botton.
    - Click it and wait untill in downloads againg.
    - After finishing download don't proceed in installing it again using the wisard. Quit the installer and go to the Applications folder, find "Install Mac OS X Lion.app", right click and select show packge contents and go to "/Contents/SharedSupport/installESD.dmg".
This is the image disk of Lion, use Disk Utility "Spotlight it" to burn it on a DVD so will have a bootable DVD which can be used to reinstall your autherized copy of lion.
    - Restart your machine while holding Options key to get the boot options.
    - Select the DVD, a Disk utility will appear again, use it to erase the Macintosh HD and reinstall Lion again
