1 year old messages return to inbox when I change boxes

I actually had this problem in Tiger and to my great surprise and disappointment it continued when I upgraded to Leopard.
Any time I go from one inbox or folder and then back to my mail inbox, a message will appear from roughly 1 year ago at the top of my inbox. The old messages seem to come in the sequence they came in a year ago - so I'll look in a mail folder and then return to my inbox to see a message from Nov. 17th 2007 from 10:25am. I delete it, and then if I repeat the process another message will come from the same date but 10:28am or whatever. If I don't delete them then no new (old) messages come.
I use 1and1.com pop mail service and those messages are long-gone from my mail server. It's taking them from either my archive or junk/trash folders.
If I erase junk and trash folders, then only message that are still on my system (in various folders) show up. They can be sent, archived or in a daily subscription folder that I want to keep.
Any thoughts?

Try rebuilding your Mail index like this:
1. Quit Mail if it's running.
2. Go to ~/Library/Mail and delete the Envelope Index file.
3. Restart Safari and wait for it to import your existing messages. When it's done, check to see if the problem persists. And you should empty the Trash in Mail when you quit the program. You can change that automatic behavior in Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors (check the box to move deleted messages to a separate folder and choose 'Erase deleted messages when:' "Quitting Mail from the pop-down menu.

  • Month & year old messages being delivered to phone

Sorry if this has been already answered on the forums, I did search, but didn't find a useful answer.
I have a Blackberry with a push email service from Vodafone UK. Unfortunately, what is happening is that I am occasionally (maybe one a day on average) being pushed old messages from months or years back that are already read.
I have looked at the headers of the messages in question and there doesn't seem to be anything strange about them - all the dates in the "Received" sections are correct as well as the "Date" section.
There doesn't seem to be any reason for them to come through - the time they arrive appears to have no relation to the time + date of the old message. I understand different mail servers can all implement their own additions to headers and mess around with them until they become difficult to parse, but so far the old mail has come from different people (and most of the time their old mail goes unnoticed).
Basically I can't see why particular messages should suddenly be re-sent to me.
I got in touch with Vodafone who (as I am my mail server admin) advised me to talk to RIM and the developers of the various products I run on the server), as the problem is unique to me according to them.
My set up is Courier-IMAP service, Plesk 9 env, CentOS 5 server.
I realise that a UID gets assigned to messages and I see no reason for this to change - I run no scripts on my mail that should update 2 year old messages randomly...
As far as I know I am not modifying the messages in any way that could cause them to suddenly pop up again to Vodafone/Blackberry. No mail client that I use has this problem (squirrelmail, thunderbird, @mail), so I don't see how Vodafone could be.
Any ideas anyone? It's not a major problem of course, I am just intrigued now and want to get to the bottom of it
Oh, and as suggested in another post, I have tried deleting and re-creating my account on the vodafone blackberry internet service site.
    Any ideas anyone?

The issue here could be related to changing message ID's on the mail server,
the post below states Outlook could be causing the message ID's to be changed
but I have seen in the past where the ID's just randomly change.

  • Why have year-old messages started to reappear endlessly in my In-box?

The same 5 messages from beginning of July LAST year, about three weeks ago started to re-appear repeatedly in my In mailbox. In addition a one message of 14 July THIS years is doing the same. The frequency is about one message ”burst” every 15 minutes or so.
    My In-box has ”three sub-boxes” (all pop-accounts):
The 5-message ”package” originates from a sub-box used only for forwarding mails under a different e-mail address from an external server, the July 14th message came into a sub-box used only for messages from my ISP. Other messages in these two sub-boxes (about 20 in each) have not been affected The third (really the primary) sub-box holds my other 9000 received messages and has not (luckily) so far been affected by the endless duplication problem.
    Other info:
In all I have some 23000 in/out messages (2.6 GB) in my Apple Mail. I realize now, I long ago should have done rebuilds (and probably reorganizations) of the Mail-box and but that has never been done.
I have no rules implemented in Preferences/Rules. I had however Junk-mail rules activated, which I to-night changed to automatic (and no copying even before), but that does not seem to have had any impact on the duplication problem.
My problem, when I a couple of weeks ago realized that something had to be done and went to Mac Discussion forums, seemed somewhat similar to that in Article 25485 in the Panther or Earlier Mail Forum (which I have not been able to find again now, but have a print-out of the proposed solutions).
I tried the two solutions proposed; doing changes in preferences, and quitting Mail and moving out plist-files from Library/Mail to desktop and then restarting Mail (there were different plist-name files than those given for Panther, but I think I moved out all there were in Tiger). But the problem did not go away.
(I made a back-up of Mail first but sa wjust now that I shold copy "com.apple.mail.plist," located Library/Preferences and the folder "AddressBook," located in Library/Application Support. I will do that before further experimentation. )
I am about to start using a new computer (i Mac OS X v. 10.5.4) regularly, but have been holding back this for the last few weeks afraid that the above problem would be transmitted to the new if it was not solved on the old computer. I need to have quick access to many of my old e-mails, but probably could do without many of them; problem is finding time to discard those not essential
I would very much appreciate some advice on how the problem I tried to describe could be solved.
    Best regards.
    Ingemar

I am now using, as you suggested, the Target Disk Mode from my New iMac (iMac2) to my old (defective) iMac (iMac1). It worked fine to run DiskWarrior this way. The result however was probably what one should have expected based on earlier peculiarites, i. e. it could not replace the directory of iMac1, see below.
DW also says it has had to scavenge the iMac1 for certain information, which I read as meaning the iMac 1 cannot be restored to its previous state (correct??); that certainly was somewhat erratic but it still let me access old documents and mail. [My aim has been (and still is) to get Apple Mail to work correctly without the regenerated messages and then move the Mail system and all documents etc on iMac1 over to my new computer (iMac2) (and then do a complete new installation of OS X 10.4 and give the iMac1 from 2003 to my 6 year old granddaughter, provided the hardware is not broken)].
My immediate problem now is that I would like to follow DW urgent recommendation to immediately backup the Preview data somewhere, while I still have them before me.
I have a full SuperDuper on old iMac1, but failed to bring a copy over to iMac2 before I started the "Target" operation; I have now downloaded the free version from the SuperDuper people to iMac2, but it looks like that version maybe does not allow me to backup Prewiew to the disks available to me, without erasing the backup I made yesterday of iMac1 to my Backup Disk LaCied2.
Is there som other way to backup the preview for my stated purpose, e g copy all the Preview content to LaCied2 or iMac 2HD, without erasing present information on these disks? Maybe simply copying the Preview to La Cied2? If that is possible, would I have any use for such copies for my purpose.
Or would the full SuperDuper version, if I bought a second copy tonight into the iMac2 allow some other way of backing up the DW Preview without erasing existing information.
Hope for an answer tonight if at all possible, since I am sitting with both computers open, without knowing what I can expect after I turned them off without having Preview backed up.
I am sorry if I pose too many ignorant questions. I am a veteran user of Macintoshes in my work since they first appeared (in 84 in our country?) and before that 4 -5 years of Apple II, but I have never have had to take the time to try and learn even a minimum of the inner workings of the systems, because of their ease of use and remarkable reliability. But that means I am not familiar with most technicalities and terminology, which would have been good to possess now.
This is the report (short version) from DiskWarrior:
DiskWarrior has successfully built a new directory for the disk named "Macintosh HD." The new directory cannot replace the original directory because of a disk malfunction.
A disk malfunction is a failure of or damage to any mechanical component of the disk device, or any component connected to it. The malfunction will likely worsen. Therefore, recovering your files from the DiskWarrior Preview as quickly as possible is essential. [My comment: I had the combination of iMac1 and my first LaCie Backup disk starting to work increasingly erratic last winter until the disk finally ceased working 3 months ago.]
It is highly recommended that you backup all of your data from the preview disk.
The original directory is damaged and it was necessary to scavenge the directory to find file and folder data.
Some files that had been lost or thrown away may have been recovered.
Comparison of the original and replacement directories could not be performed because the original directory was too severely damaged. It is recommended that you preview the replacement directory.
    • All errors in the directory structure such as tree depth, header node, map nodes, node size, node counts, node links, indexes and more have been repaired.
    • 50 files had a directory entry with an incorrect alias flag that was repaired.
    • 20 files had a directory entry with an incorrect text encoding value that was repaired.
    • 1 folder had a directory entry with an incorrect flag that was repaired.
    • 106 folders had a directory entry with an incorrect custom icon flag that was repaired.
    • Incorrect values in the Volume Information were repaired.
    • Critical values in the Volume Information were incorrect and were repaired.

  • 3 years old A100-001: horizontal lines when playing games

    Dear Everyone!
I have a Satellite A100-001 notebook, almost 3 years old, with 3 GB memory ram, nVidia GO 7600 256 MbRam VGA with rather fresh (6 months old) Windows 7 Professional 32 bit OS.
I use my notebook every day, mostly for work or gameplaying. I never had a problem (and this is why I love Toshiba) until yesterday: when I play, after a few minutes (5-10-15 at most), the screen turns stripped with horizontal lines, and freezes down. Like I said, I never had a problem before.
I don't really know what happened. Could anyone tell me a solution?
I've been thinking of the loss of temp control. I don't really think that the VGA card died (or at least, I hope).
    Thanks for you support!

    Hi
Hmm the lines on the notebook screen could be related to the graphic chip issue but you should connect an external monitor to be 100% sure that this is a vga related issue and not notebooks monitor problem
But in my opinion its vga issue possibly the graphic chip starts to malfunction due to a higher temperature while gaming what do you think about this theory?
I think you use this notebook long time and maybe the cooling fans dont work properly due to the dust. How about cleaning the cooling module?
Try an compressed air spray. Such tool helps to get rid of dust and debris
    Good luck

  • Warning message should be raised when user changes Business Area in MIRO.

    Hello all,
    My requirement is,
When in MIRO transaction, in details tab the BA (Business Area) comes from PO line items. When user changes this Business Area to some other value then the system should raise a warning message and continue with the transaction. It happens in MRHR transaction in 4.6. Now we are on ECC6.0 and user wants this functionality.
So is there any configuration to be done or so I need to write User Exit?
Please explain in details like where to make these config settings and all.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Harshal,
Make use of  EXIT_SAPLMRMP_010 in Enchancement LMR1M001  User exits in Logistics Invoice Verification.
Raise your warning message by validating GSBER present in structure in exit's FM : EXIT_SAPLMRMP_010
    hope this helps.

  • Deleted messages returned to inbox after keying command shift L incorrectly

I was in the process of flagging a message and for learning purposes attempted to do it with the keystroke combination rather than simply selecting the acton. silly me! The combination of flagging a message is command shift L but instead of using the shift key I used the page up or arrow up key. suddenly a bunch of messages that had been deleted returned in a grayed out state. I tried re-deleting them, selecting specfic inbox folders for example. I had some success but not all will go away. and now I just labeled a new message as junk and the message goes to the junk folder but a grayed out message with a flag symbol stays in the inbox and won't go away. What did I do when I messed up that key combination? I looked at some of the other related issues on this discussion. I did some research into the preferences and into whether or not there are the correct deleted messages folders in the pop account folders. I found some inconsistancies but since I've never been to those folders before I don't know if things were any different before my keystroke mistake. I just want to go back to the default situation that I had set up before this booboo. I had created 3 pop accounts and I may have had some preferences on the deleted items folders, but essentially deleted messges were going to the trash and I think they were in the trash. I probably hadn't been emptying the trash. Weird, on my PC when i deleted a message it was gone. with Mac they seem to be in a trash folder which must then be emptied. interesting. > Cutting the messages seems to disappear them for now...
but I don't trust where they are going.
What do you mean? They don’t go anywhere (well, they go to a temporary storage area so that you can paste them). That’s precisely why it works.
I want to understand why the delete button doesn't function as it should.
Probably because there is something wrong with the messages themselves that prevents Mail from being able to handle them properly in general and from moving them to any other mailbox in particular. If Edit > Cut didn’t work (and sometimes it doesn’t), you’d have to manually get rid of the associated *.emlx files and re-create the index afterwards.

The mailbox icon on my iPhone has the little red bubble with a number 2 next to it, but when I go to my inbox, I don't see any unread messages. Is there something I did wrong? What do you suggest I do? Thanks!

  • Messages vanish from Inbox when I click on them

This has happened a few times. I can't figure out why.
This seems to apply to messages that are only a few seconds old. Either it disappears a moment after I've clicked on it, or it simply vanishes moments after appearing in my Inbox. It's not in Junk or any other mailbox. I've disabled filters.
It only happens once or twice a month, but it's still a problem since I have to ask the sender to re-send the email, and I'm not sure which emails have disappeared without my noticing.
    Advice?

    Andrew,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
What type of account(s) are you using -- POP, IMAP or .mac?
Did you set up your accounts from scratch, on your MBP, or by transfer of the Mail folder from another Mac?
    More info, please.

  • I currently have a one year old MacBook Pro, and right when I boot up the system, the kernel_task is using about 1GB of the 4GB of RAM that I have. Is this normal? Or if not, how can I reduce the kernel_task?

I have noticed that my computer is running super slow, even when I only have one application (like Chrome) running for a short amount of time.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the system log for messages that may indicate a hardware fault. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|nspace-h|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • My 3 year old macbook pro shuts off when it is trying to turn on

when i turn on my macbook, it makes the startup sound, the logo comes. but then a loading bar appers and it starts loading, when it's about 1/5 of the way the loading bar  dissapears and it shuts down about 5 seconds after. the software it's using is mavericks (10.9.1)

    TheMikkelfl1,
boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the  OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it get to the login screen now?

  • My iMac will not boot up.  I  have a 3 year old iMac running   Lion.  When I push the power button I get the Apple logo, then the circular thing made up of small lines revolving iin a clockwise direction, then a progress bar which never fills in.

The progress bar then disappears and the system never boots up.  How can I get this machine to boot without a start-up disc?
Are there any keyboard shortcuts available?

I think you'll need those grey original install disks as it sounds like your harddrive is corrupted.

  • How do I get back old emails that were lost when I changed my email address?

I changed email providers. I have the new account set up. I then went to Tools/Account Settings/Account Actions. I then removed the old account (assuming that it would stay in my inbox and just not try to send or receive) and all of the old incoming and sent emails that I had been saving under that account in my inbox and sent files folders disappeared. How do I get them back?

Which program do you use for email: Thunderbird? Outlook Express? Other?
As you may know, you can set up accounts using two different protocols: POP3 and IMAP. With POP3, you actually download copies of all mail and Sent messages are stored locally. Removing your account should be no problem. With IMAP, you are viewing a mirror of your mail which really lives on the server. Removing an IMAP account might remove the folders, although I can't recall ever trying it.

  • Has 4 year old palm centro unlocked phone. want to change its panel+keypad.where to get it in india?

Where in India should be done this? Please help?
Or any option to upgrade to any other HP/PALM phone, in exchange of my this phone?
I am ready to pay any extra cost in exchange...

Hello smilekapoor, Palm Inc. ceased making new phones many years ago, and I'm afraid HP no longer supports them.
However, if you google "palm centro repair" you will find many places that still offer parts for your phone.
I do not know if any offer service to India; this will require some research on your part.

  • Content of messages over 1 year old won't load

I'm looking at old messages in my inbox and junk mail.
For many messages, instead of loading the message, it either shows a blank page or, in the case of Junk Mail, tells me I need to take my account online to view it.
Mail seems to be online, and "Go Online" is grey while "Go Offline" is active.
    What do I do?

Why would you be interested in keeping any spam messages received for such a long period of time?
You have what is called an "overstuffed" mailbox issue which means the mailbox has approached or exceeded the recommended size limit or has some corruption. The recommended mailbox size limit for Jaguar or Panther Mall is 1 GB and for Tiger Mail, 2 GB but you shouldn't allow a mailbox to get anywhere close to this limit.
Do you really want to salvage and access all spam/junk messages in this account's Junk mailbox? If not, there is a easy/simple fix for this mailbox.
For the account's Inbox mailbox, quit Mail first and using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > INBOX.mbox and Junk.mbox.
Move the INBOX.mbox and Junk.mbox to the Desktop.
Launch Mail and a new INBOX.mbox and Junk.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder when the function is used by the account.
For the Junk.mbox - easy fix. Delete the Junk.mbox and empty the Trash removing that garbage from your hard drive.
Control-click on the INBOX.mbox and at the menu window that appears, select Show Package Contents.
List the package content file names AND size of each.
