1 yr old batt discharging, no led lamp on new power supply?

17" MBP, Replaced batt 1 yr ago & 85W mag safe a week ago. Batt will intermittently discharge with power supply connected. Upon full batt discharge, LED no longer lit although still connected. Once batt fully discharged 0%, only thing that will resurrect it is literally unplugging power supply from AC. Upon recon to AC, batt will begin charging again & led on transformer will illuminate as normal.

  • K8N NEO4 new old power supply died new power supply installed will not boot

This is an old build. The K8N NEO4 powers up and is followed by a long beep. The lights on the back of the USB card (4 lights( indicate 3 greens and one red in the upper right corner. According to the instruction manual, this means that Initializing Floppy Drive Controller
This will initialize Floppy Drive and controller. This makes no sense.
I flashed the CMOS both using the red button and removing the motherboard battery to confirm the power supply was bad. In hindsight, I wish I had not.
I switched from a 500W power suppply that died to a 430W thermaltake power supply. I've disconnected a hard drive and a burner to see if power was an issue, it was not the cause.
I'm pulling my hair out here, please help!

"Is it possible the power supply took the CPU with it when it died?"
Yes it's possible that it did that. It's also possible that other components were killed also, that's why changing and trying different parts are required until you find everything that may have been damaged. We can only suggest what might be bad and you or someone else will need to do the actual work, there is no getting around that. We can give the serious advice, you need to do the serious labor.
"...don't want to take the Tuniq tower 120 off if another processor will not work"
Anybody that repairs PC's would need to swap parts to be 100% sure of what's wrong.
Pin #20 is where -5V would be if newer PSU's still had -5V. The only the reason you would need the -5V is if you had an older K8N MB that had Creative sound on it instead of Realtek.

  • 6-month old Mac Pro has already had a new logic board and power supply

At a cost of $400 in shipping and a one-month wait, my 5-month old Mac Pro got a new power supply and logic board
Now I keep getting kernel panics, runaway kernel_task in Activity Monitor, and corrupted boot drives
External Firewire drives work some of the time, and occasionally my USB devices dont work either
This computer is a nightmare - how do I begin to figure out if this is OS (10.6.4) or hardware related?
The extended AHT test reports that all is OK - as does an extended memory test using Applejack
Should I do firmware updates and re-install the 10.6.4 combo pack, or am I just wasting more of my time?
I've got 4 macs and this is the only one that works badly - I think Apple's OS updates are getting as bad as Windows updates

My first question is why you spent $400 to get a 5 month old system fixed. That should have been covered under the warranty. So someone ripped you off, or you left out some key details.
And if you had both the logic board and PSU replaced, did you ever stop to think that maybe the problem lies with the power coming into your house? It's not really the big power spikes or blackouts you need to worry about, since those are pretty rare. What you need to worry about are the small fluctuations in voltage that happen several hundred times a day, if not an hour. Sometimes there's not quite enough power, other times there's a little too much, and all of this takes a steady toll on the PSU. It will do what it can to try and feed the rest of the computer a steady diet of electricity, but sometimes a jolt will get past it and start damaging other components. It could even cause data corruption on your HDD.
If the PSU and logic board already went, who knows what damage it may have caused to anything else. It may just be taking longer to show up.
It might also be that whomever ripped you off to the tune of $400 simply traded you one defective logic board for another. Or maybe they don't really know how to protect against ESD. I once saw a repair shop where the techs smoked in the same room they did the repairs. Sadly, for every one good tech out there, there's probably at least 3 complete idiots. Kind of like auto mechanics.
And I never have problems with Windows or Apple updates. Seems like on Windows the majority of people who have problems with updates are either running some program designed to change the way Windows looks or messes with low level system files, or they have a malware infestation they were unaware of/oblivious to. Most of the people who have problems with Apple updates seem to be the same way. They're running some truly bizarre programs that mess with the system in ways programs were not intended to mess with the system. There's generally a reason OS vendors provide an API for developers. You deviate from that at your own peril.

  • Can I use the old power supply with the new unit?

I have a second generation Apple TV. When I install the new unit next week can I use the old power supply with the new one and the new power supply with the old one? This would save some messing with cords behind the units.

    Hello:
I would definitely not try that.....  The power supplies may be compatible - or may not be compatible.  I think messing with cables is a small price to pay for not potentially frying a new device.

  • Ciscoview Cisco 6509 VSS power supply LED indicators incorrect

    Hello all
i am experiencing the following problem.
In the Ciscoview, the LED indicators of the power supply of Cisco 6509 VSS are represented incorrectly. All power inputs and fans are okay actually. however, in the ciscoview, there is only 1 green "INPUT OKAY" for each power supply. And "FAN OKAY" LEDS are off on Active chassis.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Check the PS at the back, is there a light?  If there's no light, then you need to RMA the PS as it could be faulty.
If there's a light on the PS, then you need to RMA the switch.

  • Power supply LED shows orange, but battery is not charging

    Hi everyone,
My iBook G4 seemed to stop recharging the battery. Here is the info from the system profiler and coconutbattery (when the computer is plugged to power supply):
    Battery installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3924
    Remaining capacity (mAh): 1317
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 16637
    Cycle count: 56
    AC charger (watts): 50
    Connected: Yes
    Charging: No
The puzzling part is that the LED ring on the power supply was orange, indicating it was recharging (more on this later), but the power status icon on the menu bar showed plugged (rather than the flashing thunderbolt icon indicating recharging) and saying "Calculating...." I have reset the power management module several times, but it did not resolve the problem. The battery seems still ok based on its charge cycle (only 56), though the capacity is only 89% of its original. The computer can still run totally fine as long as it is plugged to the power supply. It looks like the computer (power management unit?) simply decided to stop recharging, even though the battery is only 33% full. Any thought? BTW, does any one know the orange LED on the power supply will show up when it is recharging, or whenever it "senses" the battery is not fully charged?
    Many thanks in advance!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
As Joshua mentions, the problem could be the power adaptor. Here's an article on troubleshooting it:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1725
For a battery to charge, three things have to work--the battery, the power adaptor, and the DC In Board, which is what contains the power port.
Your battery sounds OK. If you can, find a known good power adaptor to try--maybe a friend's or one at the Apple Store.
If both the adaptor and the battery are good, that leaves the DC In Board. What often happens is that the power port eventually becomes damaged from normal use and no longer makes good contact, often due to broken solder connections. If this is the case, the DC IN Board will need to be repaired or replaced.
Also check that the battery contacts are good and not bent or damaged.
    Good luck!

  • Old power supply does not fit new MBP

I recently got a new MBP to replace a 2011 unit that went bad.  The wife also have a 2007 MBP.  Over the years I have accumulated four 85 watt power supplies with the magnetic catch.  Magsafe I believe they call it.
I keep one on my desk at the office and one on the desk at my home.  I don't even have to take the new one out of the bag.
Imagine my surprise when I tried to attach one of the old power supplies to my new 2014 MBP.  It didn't fit.  The new computer is thinner than the old ones and the mag connector is not as wide (or tall if you consider the angle it sits at).
After pondering the situation for a while and staring at the connectors, it dawned on me that the electrical connections and local area around them are identical.  What is different is the thickness of the surrounding metal rim.
I took one of the old power supplies along with the new one out to my shop and milled .028" (28 thousandths, or 28 mils) off each side of the old connector.  Voilá, it worked perfectly.  The two modified units now are back in place on the two desks and my new power supply is safely tucked in my carrying bag for use when I am "out".

Should the trip to the shop prove to be tiring, you may get one of these instead:

  • Led lamp flickering - removable?

i filmed a concert, stage lights were led-lamps, and now i watched the footage, it is flickering. i heard that some led-lamps can cause this problem, is there a way to remove this? maybe there is a filter that could help me?

did not see any strobe effect during the gig, the two led stage lamps were just for ambient light mounted on the ceiling, it was a small pub and not a professional stage.
i run a location where we changed some stage light a few months ago to led-lamps and i'm quite happy with it, lower energy cost and nice light - and no shutter effect or whatever, i record every gig and had no troubles at all. as i heard the 1st generation of stage led caused this strobe-effect.

so i have to deal with the flickering in my project, anyway, it's not that important.
    thank you for your answer!

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

    Hi 1283ar.
Unfortunately, iOS 7 is too hard to push for the iPhone 4 and therefore has a lot of effects turned off to try to get it to run as smoothly as possible.
However, it becomes better and better with each update coming but it's hard to do anything about the hardware on an already released phones.
If you still have trouble or think they are too hard. My tip is, if so, to restore your iPhone 4 and make a clean setup with no iCloud backup. But all your photos in a photostream so you can access it later.

If I have a new apple ID and password, do I lose all of my old apps if I sync to my new apple ID?

I'll ask my question differently. I have multiple devices and I sync them to my itunes account. For one of my devices, I gave it to a family member. I changed my itunes password and did not give it to the family member who has one of my devices. Will they be able to update applicable apps not having the new password?
Also, if that family member opens their own itunes account and purchase apps and sync the phone, will they lose all the apps that was purchased from my itunes account?

You can't merge accounts or copy content to a different account, so anything that you bought or downloaded via the old account is tied to that account - so any updates that those apps get you will only be able to download via that account. You can change which account is logged in on the iPad via Settings > Store

Do you have your system backed up to Time Machine? If so, you can open your user Library and copy your Mail folder from Time Machine to your Desktop on your new machine; then copy THAT folder to your new machine's user Library.
To get to your user Library, open Finder and Go and press the Option key. Library will show up. Click on it to get into your user Library. Now go into Time Machine and you should see your user Library for Time Machine. Restore the Mail folder to your Desktop.

Why would you create a new account?
All purchases will be tied to the account from which they were purchased.
You will have to authorize your computer for all the accounts from which music is purchased.
