10.0.7 Needs Fixing... Miserable Performance! What now...
Thought I would add to the previous threads. I have posted before about performance problems. Within minutes of use I end up with a 10 second delay. Just adjusting a clip length gives me a beach ball. In fact just touching the timeline is a 10 second delay... finally FCPX does not react at all... then a minute goes by.... and it comes to life again.... briefly. I am in a rough edit on a full length movie - split into 4 projects of 30min lengths.
I checked my set up: I am on a Retina MBP with 16Gb Ram, 2.6Ghz, etc running a thunderbolt display. I am running 2 x 3Tb thunderbolt ext. drives (gobs of space). I tested the drives at 160Mb/sec... so I ruled out hardware issues.
I thought it was due to my native avchd files.... so I spent 2 days transcoding to proxy media. Relinked fine and guess what... performance is just as bad... in Proxy Media!! This really amazed me.
Then other threads made me check the activity. On a fresh start I have 12Gb ram free and the remaining 4Gb for the system. After 30 minutes in FCPX I am now at 125Mb Ram ... memory is all gone and FCPX is on it's knees. So is the cause - have we established this?
So does anyone know how to proceed from here?

Please report this issue to Feedback. I have dont the same - because it is a problem that we need to fix. Apple reads and takes it serious.
Just a little check list / Idea Scale
1) I trust that after converting to Proxy that you always switched the playback to Proxy in the preferences.
2) Open Activty Monitor and check FCPx threads when hitting playback on original & Proxy
3) Once you get into trouble meaning when your free available memory is approaching zero.. Open the Terminal and type "purge" without the quotes... Then hit enter... (It will take a while (up 30 Seconds)) to have effect.
4) As the available memory gets low... Does the inactive memory increase ?
5) Don't know whether you've read my thread on performance issues...
6) Try disk-separating your project from its event library.. As in ... If the event library is on disk A... Make sure that you create the new project which is to use the event lib. on disk A, on disk B or another disk. This WILL always speed up performance.
The specific problem you are having used to be something that I only saw on Snow Leopard. I have yet to experience that on ML

Using Window XP Pro with service pack 3 and all the updates. I uninstalled version 6 and am now back to version 4. 4 gig ram and over a hundred gigs of storage. Not using Nortons or McAfee. Checking my settings, I find java is enabled, but still get "java not installed" on many sites. I have reverted to version 4, so I can only load the troubleshooting info from there.

Try Resetting Safari:
IMPORTANT: Resetting Safari removes all cookies, saved passwords, and saved AutoFill information, not just the ones saved during the current browsing session. Cookies saved by other applications may also be removed.
To reset:
Choose Safari > Reset Safari.
Deselect any items you don’t want to reset:
Clear history: Clears the stored addresses of webpages you’ve viewed.
Empty the cache: Clears the temporary location on your computer where Safari saves webpages you’ve viewed. The cache helps webpages load more quickly.
Clear the Downloads window: Clears the list of files you’ve downloaded from websites. Only the names are removed; the files themselves are still on your disk until you remove them.
Remove all cookies: Removes cookies that websites have stored on your computer.
Remove all website icons: Removes website icons, which are small graphics that help identify sites on the Internet. You see them in the Safari address bar and bookmarks list, and other places. These icons are stored on your computer.
Remove saved names and passwords: Removes user names and passwords, which Safari remembers for you when the AutoFill feature is turned on.
Remove other AutoFill form text: Removes some personal information, such as telephone numbers, used to automatically complete forms on webpages. Safari remembers this information for you when the AutoFill feature is turned on. Removing AutoFill information does not remove information from your address book.
Clear Google searches: Clears the Google search field of recent searches, which are normally saved in a list viewed by clicking the search field’s magnifying glass icon.
Close all Safari windows: If you don’t close all Safari windows, someone could use the Back and Forward buttons to view the webpages you’ve visited.
Click Reset.
Open windows are closed and a new window opens. The new window has a new history for the Back and Forward buttons and the SnapBack buttons.

Hi,
When I got my MBP in Dec 2010, it was very snappy running Snow Leopard.
My initial upgrade to Lion (Apple's version of MS Vista? LOL) had issues, I restored from Time Machine, but eventually got it installed. Almost immediately, the performance drastically reduced.
Eventually, I took it into Apple, they re-installed Lion from scratch (wiped the hard disk), and I did a partial restore from Time Machine. There's no guarantee I didn't regress some system files from my Time Machine backup.
The install of Mountain Lion was uneventful - the app store upgrade ran fine.
I was also getting a number of kernel panics, which were eventually isolated to (I think?) the GPU. Apple replaced the GPU under the Apple Care warrantee.
So, ever since moving off the original operating system, my MBP has had horrid performance. Some days worse than others, but lately very bad.
However, the timing could be a coincidence - I have also installed a number of third party tools (as we all do), and my HDD has 12GB out of 437GB left. At times it has had < 1GB before I copied files to an external USB drive. I don't deny my MBP could be bloated.
Sometimes when I close the laptop lid, then reopen it, the screen never recovers. 5 mins later the display is still black, and I have to cycle power. Sometimes just tabbing to a new text input field within Safari can take 30 seconds to move to the next field. Numerous other performance problems, I'm so sick of the spinning beach ball.
So, with that as background, some questions:
1) Any general advice on addressing poor performance under OS X 10.8.2?
2) Are there any *good quality* tools I can use to fix poor performance? I installed Mackeeper 2012 for about 10 minutes, before further web research convinced me to uninstall immediately. But I do like the concept, if a reputable company puts out a similar product. What about Clean My Mac???
3) Are there any tools available to test my hardware? I know Apple have them - that's how they detected the bad GPU. I'd like to run a full diagnostic check of my hardware.
(However, I also booted into Boot Camp. Windows 7 was very snappy, with the same hardware available to OS X. I suspect my problem is software related. Performance of the Boot Camp images under Parallels 8 is abysmal. Yes, I know a VM adds overhead, but Windows used to be just fine under Parallels.)
4) Or should I just take it to the Genius Bar under my Apple Care coverage? I've got 10 months left on the 3 year warrantee.
Any other advice more than welcome. Right now, I'm close to just wiping the disk and installing Windows 7 ;-). At this point, it really is unworkable, the performance is that bad. I really *want* to like my Mac and OS X, but lately I think "It Just Works" is just a bunch of marketing hype ;-).

1) Can I reinstall Mountain Lion from the recovery partition? I know I could with Lion; I assume the app store upgrade to Mountain Lion updates the recovery partition?
2) How do I run a hardware diagnostics on my HDD? Is there a utility that comes with Mountain Lion, or do I need to go to Apple?
3) Are there known apps that cause problems? I totally agree with your advice above - I should have thought of it lol - but it will be a PITA to implement. I can post a list of my apps if that will help. Note that the poor performance occurs even when few apps are actually active, and happens shortly after a restart.
4) How do I know what a TRUSTED app is? For example, I've got Chrome, but I've heard it has ahem "issues" on the Mac. But I don't know if that's the *cause* of the poor performance.
(Oops...ignore question #2, I'll search for how to do this...)
In short, if there is a way to shortcut these diagnostics, that would help. But yeah, I can see that what you suggest will probably what I end up doing ;-/

I am having exactly the same problem with with the permission blocker on all my computers. I also have full owner/admin (whatever you want to call full ownership rights) for my 2 PCs and 1 laptop. All are able to connect to the internet and use and extract files off of the 1T external hard drive (which is connected into the router as a network drive with a USB cable).

I have tried differant users, matching names and passwords to the accessing computer and with users being members of the admin group with read and write access but no luck.
All of the linksys support only gives XP examples. i am running 64bit windows 7
Either exactly the same thing, or something very similar was happening when I 1st hooked up this router almost a year ago. The tech guy over the phone from linksys fixed it by installing a patch the same way they would do a hard install of the firmware ( I'm guessing it was an early version of a win7 patch). Hmm... Strange that there are postings of this problem I am once again facing, BUT... NO solution posted. Curious; I deffinately would have thought this problem would have by now, after all this time, been posted on the FAQ with a simple fix. Obviously my findings for a solution are MUCH less than expected.

I have found the solution to this problem on my own after MANY, MANY hours with tech support from Symantic(for Norton360), Cisco Linksys(for the router), and Network Magic (for the software that comes with the Linksys wireless router). Symantic was only able to uninstall norton and reinstall it and said there's nothing wrong with their software and that there's nothing more they can do.
Network Magic basically did and said the same.
And... Last but not least, Cisco. Cisco Linksys Basically did the same as the others for the firmware but, they then came up with the bright conclution that it must be a defective unit and they will send me a new one.
Well... That was not good enough for me; all of my equiptment (including the router) has been working great since the 1st setup about a year ago.
Well... Here's the way I fixed it:
Once the network drive is mapped properly, go into 'computer', right click on your network drive, choose properties, open the security tab, click the edit button, and there you go. Now you should see the account that keeps telling you the no permission from it. If it is there as it should be, click on that account to highlight it and then pick the permissions you whish to have. Click apply and ok. You should now be able to edit, add, remove, etc. your files now.
My only problem with this is: Where did this account come from and why did it default without editing permissions, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY (you'll find out if you try to do this) WHY CAN I NOT REMOVE THIS ACCOUNT. When/If I find out the answers to these final questions, I will post it here. So, if you are iterested in this situation, check back. I'm deturmined to get to the bottom of this.
For now, I'm gong to let Cisco send me the new unit because this mysterious new account may be a hacker that has entered our machines through the router somehow. If this is the case, my theory for how this can happen is: all linksys units come default with easy access with a user/pass as admin/admin. I would have to strongly suggest that you go into your router cofiguration under the administrations tab; personalize the router password AND under the storage tab; in the 'User Management' section, click on the 'Modify' button and personalize the admin password(make sure to write down your new passwords and what they goto -

Then you'll have to use another iOS device or Mac running OS X Lion or higher to create a new account for you to use on your phone. If you don't have one, perhaps a friend would allow you to create and account on their device (note: this will use one of their three maximum accounts). To do this, they would need to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which will delete the account from their device but not from iCloud), then allow you to sign back in with your ID to create the new account. Then tap Delete Account to delete the new account from their device, and finally, sign back in with their iCloud ID to restore their iCloud account to their device. Then you can sign in with your ID on your phone in Settings>iCloud and use the new account.

Hello, After installing Application Server Metadata Repository Creation Assistant 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) on Aix 5.3 ML 06, I tried to run the Prerequisite Check Tool. The database is 10.2.0.3 and it's up and running. Running the tool (as the user who
