10,000 RPM HD for LP9 - Projects  ?

Hi,
Would using a 10,000 RPM HD for LP9 projects, help improve the overall performance/response of the system, compared to 7,200 RPM HD. when working with Logic Pro 9 projects ?
Thanks.

Thanks,
I will be working with rather a large count of audio tracks, mainly audio stems recorded into LP9 from slave PCs hosting VST instruments. Which I would then need to edit, mix, and process in LP9.
I guess having a fast drive (10K RPM) would make audio work snappier when editing ?

  • 10,000 rpm too loud?

thinking about purchasing a Western 10,000 rpm drive for dual 2.0 G5. anyone ever experience to much hum for recording purposes. read mixed reviews about this and is kind of scary. any help???

I think 10,000 rpm might be overkill for Audio. It will turn faster, which means more heat, more noise, and it will age faster. Usually, in Audio applications, throughput is not a limitation as much as seek time is.
You get a "disk too slow" error when the drive doesn't have time to find a new file it's supposed to play, not when the drive is already in the middle of playing a file and can't do it anymore.
Most professionals I know use 7,200 rpm SATA drives. The bigger the better (not just for storage considerations...)

    Frustration
Manufacturer: Apple (a multibillion dollar company)
    The year: 2015
    Hours lost: Three Weeks
Total costs for both devices: $4,000
    Background Details
I just wasted thousands of dollars on these two hardware devices by making the rookie mistake of assuming projects were compatible across iMovie applications. However, the exported .iMovieMobile project files are in an incompatible iMovie for iOS Project format that iMovie for Mac cannot import. So I am stuck with a 15 GB .iMovieMobile project file--for an hour-long+ video--that I created and I was editing on my iPhone for weeks that I can no longer edit on my iPhone due to an error, nor potentially rescue the lost hours on my Mac, the sole reason I purchased it one day ago. The reason I can no longer edit the project on the iPhone is because iMovie for iOS suddenly stopped displaying the video of the project in preview, external display, etc. The clip snapshots remain visible and the audio remains audible, but the video appears fully black. Any attempt to export the video at any resolution generates an error message. (This error applies only to this project; other projects export without issue.) I can save to and from iTunes or iCloud without issue, but import into iMovie for Mac is unavailable for this latest version. Deleting and reinstalling the app does not resolve the issue. Nothing has resolved this issue; so I purchased the Mac as a last attempt, and it appears that I will have to begin the meticulously painful process of recreating the video from scratch with all the titling, sound effects, precise edits, transitions, organization, etc. This video was to surprise my mother for her birthday with "this is your life" footage, including my late father. It may seem like a small first-world problem, but such things carry big emotional impacts. What began as such a wonderfully intuitive and joyful experience has descended into a soul-suffering nightmare of catastrophic proportions. This software grinch stole christmas.
    Likely Suspect
I believe this originated from Apple's confusingly designed iTunes client that removed videos used by iMovie for IOS during a sync, which I successfully restored back to the iPhone. This apparently resulted in iOS seeking and then claiming to find all of the videos, but somehow a bug in the coding causes the audio to play but not display video, and no way to resolve the bug from an enduser standpoint. I was hoping that iMovie for Mac would allow me a workaround, but I'll never know because the iOS and Mac formats are currently and dishearteningly incompatible.
    Suggestions
I never performed a full backup of the iPhone, but I don't believe any of the iCloud nor local backups actually backup iMovie projects themselves anyway. (That's a fail.) So one must back them up manually to iTunes or iCloud.
MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR PROJECTS DAILY, IF NOT HOURLY.
MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR PROJECTS BEFORE IMPORTING OR SYNCING FROM ITUNES.
MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR PROJECTS BEFORE IMPORTING VIDEO CREATED OUTSIDE  OF YOUR IOS DEVICE.
    Resolutions
Hope Apple fixes this problem soon? Perhaps.
Return the Mac to Apple, if they allow? Perhaps.
Someone in this community will provide a magical workaround--that I haven't already attempted? Perhaps.
As unlikely these options may be, I shudder to imagine that I may be forced to suffer no resolution and $3,000+ completely down the drain, because if iMovie for IOS worked as intended, I wouldn't have ever purchased the Mac as a last ditch effort to rescue the project. It meant that much to me to surprise my mother by attempting to retrieve this project file from oblivion--but to no avail.

I appreciate you taking the time to copy and paste boilerplate responses to increase your points in this forum, but I've already read all those support articles in depth; but you have barely read my post at all. Please don't guess a fix. Only someone with the latest versions of iMovie, iOS, iPhone, Yosemite, and MacBook Pro is qualified to troubleshoot this, because anyone would immediately see that the following option no longer exists:
Open iMovie on your Mac, and choose File > Import > iMovie for iOS Project.
Read my post before you reply: It clearly says in the title and within my post that I can neither export nor import through iTunes without receiving an error message. So your response neither solved my question nor helped me whatsoever.

  • How can I save previews for old projects, while burning the project to DVD?

I'll admit, I haven't read the user manual cover to cover (or screen to screen for the electronic version), and haven't spent hours combing the discussions here, but I have searched for all the relevant keywords I can think of and can't find a concise answer to this question.
I get the basic idea of Vaults (I think), but haven't found much info about long term storage of projects. I'm fulltime freelance, but not super busy, and I can easily generate 100,000 images each year. I don't have the cash to be keeping all of these images in Aperture projects on external hard drives for eternity, and I'd be surprised if anyone else does. Good thing I'm not a medium format digital shooter producing 50GB each day huh?
I remember seeing a clip of a photographer 2 or 3 years ago discussing the differences between storing digital and film images. He was making the point that throwing away files you don't think you'll need again can be a mistake, citing a shot he had of Clinton and Lewinsky together, before Clinton and Lewinsky were news. "If I'd been shooting digital, that image wouldn't exist today". It was a great pic, and when that whoel scandal erupted, it made him alot of money.
So at present I'm storing every image I take in finished projects on DVD trusting that in the future I'll be looking for a shot of someone I may have shot 5, 10, 15 years ago.
I caught part of a discussion that talked about keeping the preview files for all the images (and subsequent versions) for each project. I'd love to be able to keep lo-res previews/copies of everything I've shot to date, and have them immediately accessible on my hard drive, while my full size projects are safely stored on DVD, taking up space on a bookshelf rather than on my hard drive. Loading 10 DVD's worth of projects to see what's inside them is a headache I'd like to avoid if possible, in favour of instantly checking out lo-res previews to look a shot up.
Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?

    hello, kiwi
quote: "Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?"
    yes.
    maybe,...
    1. you might think of making DVD backups first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
    or,
    2. bring in the photographs to hard drive first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
the low rez Previews will stay in Aperture but the high quality Versions will be exported onto DVDs and gone from the hard drive (if you delete the originals).
another way would be to export small about 50-70 pixel wide high quality jpegs to a folder on your Desktop and import & keep these in Aperture Library as a reference. make metadata to show where the original Project DVDs are stored and DVD filing system used.

  • Solution to iPhoto spinning beach ball for Book projects with too many unplaced photos

A few days ago I discovered the solution to this problem for a client using iPhoto 9.5.1 in OS X Mavericks 10.9.4.
    =====
TRIED ALL KNOWN SUGGESTIONS BUT NONE HELPED
My client had already tried repairing, rebuilding etc. the iPhoto Library, and I tried OS X's Disk Verify and Repair Permissions plus emptied the cache folder in system Library and in the hidden user Library folder (option-key "Go" menu, Library). None of this helped.
    CLUE TO PROBLEM
I noticed several of her iPhoto Book projects each had thousands of "unplaced" photos. In each of those cases, each Book project only had 10-50 "placed" photos used to order the book but thousands of "unplaced" photos. In a Book project, clicking on the bottom-right corner's "Photo" icon-button caused an extremely long lasting spinning beach ball making iPhoto unusable for long periods.
I discovered the problem by clicking once on an existing Book project's name in the left column of iPhoto, then letting go of the mouse with its arrow cursor hovering over the selected Book project name. Within 1-7 seconds, a little pop-up appears listing the total number of photos (placed + unplaced) in that Book project. For many Book projects, the total number was just several more photos than the number of "placed" photos, e.g., a Book with 25 photos showed "(37)" in the pop-up info by the hovering stationary mouse, meaning 37 total photos (placed + unplaced) are associated with that Book project.
    BUT...
...some projects listed over 5,000 (five thousand) photos associated with a single Book project that had only placed 20-40 photos in the final printed book. One Book project had 6,070 and several other small book projects showed over 1,000 photos. In each Book project with a mass of unplaced photos, clicking the bottom-right "Photo" icon-button caused a very long-lasting spinning beach ball, almost certainly because iPhoto struggled to build a huge list of thumbnails for the mass of unplaced photos.
My client didn't understand how to efficiently add photos to a new Book project and was clicking on the pull-down menu in the right column that appears after clicking the Photo icon-button within the Book project. From the menu she chose "Last import..." or other menu choice that added a mass of "unplaced" photos to the Book project.
She didn't realize that after creating a new Book project, she could simply drag an individual photo or multi-selected group of photos or an event or "faces" group from its respective library section and drop it onto the Book project's name in the left column, thereby adding only a small group of "unplaced" photos.
    USER SOLUTIONS
=====Delete mass of "unplaced photos" within a Book project
This works best for cleaning up smaller number of unplaced photos from completed Book projects.
    Problems with solution:
    - if the number of unplaced photos is huge, e.g., 6,070, the list of unplaced photos won't appear for a long, long time if ever.
    - even if the list of unplaced photos finally appears, there's no way to select more than one thumbnail at a time, i.e., command-a for Select All doesn't work, nor do shift-clicks and command-clicks for multi-item selecting. You must click one photo then tap the "delete" key on your keyboard repeatedly and fast for this to be practical (note: delete key presses are cached here (meaning accumulated until it catches up processing them later); tapping the delete key like mad then waiting for iPhoto to catch up takes lots of patience.
====Delete an entire existing Book project containing a mass association of unplaced photos
This is practical if you've already printed your Book project and no longer need it. My client chose this method for Book projects with a mega mass of unplaced photos.
    Problem with solution:
    - for incomplete Book projects in progress with a mass of unplaced photos, you'd have to start over after deleting the whole thing.
    NEED FOR IMPROVED IPHOTO FEATURE(S)
    (1) The existing "Clear Placed Photos" button within a Book project might be useful, but it'd be even better to also have a button to "Clear Unplaced Photos,” and this button should be available outside of the section that struggles to display thumbnails of large numbers of unplaced photos. Clicking "Clear Unplaced Photos" would do the trick.
    (2) An additional iPhoto behavior might help: iPhoto should warn with an option to cancel when adding a mass of photos to the "unplaced photo" section if the number of photos exceeds ??? (400??).
    (3) Add another choice to iPhoto’s special startup Administrative window (Repair, Rebuild, etc.): "Remove unplaced photos from existing projects. (Doesn't destroy any photos in Library)"
    Whew!

Like I mentioned in the post, corruption was probably ruled out by running all the Admin features at iPhoto startup (e.g., Rebuild, etc.). I also stated in my post that I also ran a Disk Verify and Repaired Permissions in OSX (via Disk Utility). I also emptied system Library cache files as I stated in my post.
I was paid to figure out the solution and am not getting paid to troubleshoot for Apple. The more unplaced photos there are in a Book project, the longer it takes to build thumbnails. It's an old general problem in computing when building lists on the fly.
The delay happened for all Book projects with lots of unplaced photos (almost*** certainly more than Apple imagined a user would use), and the beach ball delay was proportional to the number unplaced photos, which super large numbers of photos.
I very much doubt photos are corrupt. But Apple will probably figure it out. It was EASILY reproducible. Try it with different number of unplaced photos known not be corrupt (they display fine elsewhere and iPhoto's and Disk Utlity's admin Verify, Repair etc features show no problems).
    I'm done with this.
My client's iPhoto works well now and she knows how avoid placing exorbitant numbers of unplaced photos into her project. I'm not getting paid to answer all this, so good night.

  • Can CF8 be fit for my project?

    Hello everyone,
    I am getting started to learn ColdFusion8(CF8). I can't
decide whether CF8 is appropriate for my project, so I am eager to
    hear your advice.
Firstly, I'd like to give a brief introduction to the
project. It is a video blog website and every registered user can
deliver his flash video and a story to the server. It must support
3,000 people to visit the site at the same time.
Secondly, my approach for designing this site is to make the
application server creating static HTML pages according to a
predefined template when registered users' contents(flash videos
and stories) come to the server. The name of a static HTML file is
formed by the user's name and generating date which can ensure that
the name differ from each other. What write to the database are
these names of files and users' information, rather than the
contents themselves, which will save the time when users upload the
contents and when visitors request the pages because during those
processes, no additional database writing and reading associated
with the contents are needed and the main purpose of the database
is to locate the specific page requested by visitors. The static
HTML file contains flash video that makes the size of the file
large and a lot of people might access this website simultaneously,
so I want the application server to compress the page for
transmitting it to the visitors when they request a certain page.
Thirdly, based on these information above, I hope CF8 can
    1) easily generate static HTML files.
    2) allow high concurrent visiting in the Internet
    environment.
    3) compress HTML pages to visitors.
Can CF8 do all the work?
I also have some basic questions about CF8,
    1. Is Dreamweaver8 the common editor for CF8?
    2. Does CF8 contain JRun?
    3. Is the application written by CF8 easy to deploy in JRun?
I mean if I have to thoroughly master JRun to do this?
    Thank you in advance!

    Yes
Is Dreamweaver8 the common editor for CF8?
It is a good CF editor. However, it busies itself with many
things besides editing. Other commonly used editors are Homesite
and CFEclipse. I would strongly recommend CFEclipse.
    Does CF8 contain JRun?
    Yes.
Is the application written by CF8 easy to deploy in JRun?
Yes. That happens automatically behind the scenes. You don't
    have to intervene.
I mean if I have to thoroughly master JRun to do this?
No. You need no knowledge of Jrun to use CF8.

  • How can I point the premiere to a blank folder and bring only the files needed for the project

When I start premiere it loads all files from all my photo/video libraries (app 150 gb almost 20,000 photo).  I do not want to sort thru all these files for a project.  How can I point premiere Elements to a blank folder and get the appropriate media for a project as I
    need them.

As Steve points out, there are really three programs in the Premiere and Photoshop Elements "suite," PrE, PSE and then Organizer, which links between the two, and is an Asset cataloging program. Because of the commonality of the GUI (Graphic User Interface), there can be confusion as to exactly which program one is in.
If you launch just PrE, and not Organizer (can be launched from within either PrE, or PSE), the only Assets/media that you will see is that, which you have Imported into your Project.
Also, having the Assets for a Project, in a separate folder, or folder structure, is a great way to set up the Project. This article goes into details on one set up method: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4491450#4491450

  • New  Decimal Notation Format Required  For Indian Projects

    Respected Members,
As at the user level or tcode SU01 only three decimal notations are provided.
But for country India the decimal notation format is totally different.
    Given decimal notation format is
    1,234,567.89
And the Required Format For India is
    1,23,456.78
Becoz we mention the Rupees in this format only.
And this second format is not available in SPRO also .
How to create the desired decimal notation and add the corresponding functionality.
And if we use the given format (1,234,567.89) then when we converting the amount in words through Function module
SPELL_AMOUNT ,it is not converting properly even though we have maintain the entries in View V_T015Z.
Suppose our amount is 1,00,000 that is One lakh but it will show in the output  ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND.
I know that there is another function Module HR_ch_ something to convert in words according to indian currency.
But it does not solve the issue properly.
THis DECIMAL NOTATION format for Indian Projects is a BIG MESS.
So kindly tell me any solution or it is the drawback of SAP.
So that we can ask SAP to append this Decimal Notation and required Functionality for the Indian Projects.
Kindly Send Your Valuable answer and Try To Make clear picture and SAP Technical People if Reading this thread then kindly give stress on the REQUIRED DECIMAL NOTATION.

  • MBP 17" Fans constantly on at 6,000 RPM

The fans on My Mac Book Pro 17" 2.4GHz have recently started to come on all the time. About 5 minutes after booting up or coming out of sleep the fire up to their full RPM, even though I'm using a Griffin iCurve which elevate the MBP about 5 inches off the desk.
I had a look at previous thread on fans and downloaded iStat pro. This shows the fans running at or around 6,000 rpm within minutes of starting up and they stay on until the MBP is put to sleep or shuts down.
I've put a screen grab of the iStat Pro readout here: http://www.digitalbeginners.ie/images/mbp_fans.jpg
Anyone any ideas? Any help appreciated,
    Dave

Hi; thank you for posting the readouts; temps do not seem high at all, do they, for any sensor to be asking for 6K RPM (on my MBP, temps are higher than yours and fan's @ 2K)? And, your temps are all discrete (ie, not like one is zero or n/a, for there to be a totally disconnected lead)? I'm thinking a sensor (by being ditzo) is by default asking for the 6K RPMs without showing the higher temp in iStat. Since it takes several minutes from a cold start to zoom up to 6K, it starts off fresh each time, then a safety default to 6K occurs when something doesn't communicate or starts cutting in and out.
When your MBP is doing the 6K, restart w/DVD1 and do the hardware test for SNS (wait a couple minutes first, and hope the fans go to 6K again) as discussed here, from a Sept07 thread: http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?objID=c190&search=Go&q=fan+6000
" ... they always stick to 6000 RPM
OK then I'm 99% sure the main sensor lead has come off - the hardware is set to run both fans at 100% under those conditions and nothing will circumvent that.
Re: MBP fans are constantly on at 6000 RPM ...
If they have both always run at 6000rpm it's likely the temperature sensor lead has been disconnected and/or one or more of the sensors has failed. ...
Run the hardware tests from install DVD1 (hold d at Boot) and see if it reports any MTR (fan motor) or SNS (temperature sensor) errors ...
OK that's going to need a service and the lead re-attaching or the sensor replacing ..."

  • 10.000 rpm HD

    Hello all,
Is it possible to install a 10.000 rpm HD into a PowerPC G5 1,6 GHz.
I know the size limit for the controller is 500 Gb, but I have no clue about any speed limit or whether the controller will manage the drive speed.
    Thanks a lot.
    Cheers.

You are really going to find it isn't the controller, it is SATA II specs and features, plus, you are just as well off with a $77 7.2k 640GB drive. 3-5 yrs ago, yes, 10K Raptor made sense. Today, not really.

  • IMac in sleep mode with fans blasting at 5,000 RPM?

When I came home from work my iMac was still in sleep mode with the fans running at nearly 5,000 rpm, was very loud. Anyone having the same issue?
I tested it with TechTools Deluxe and it didn't find any issues.

Reset the SMC and if that doesn't do it reset the PRAM. I think the SMC reset will take care of it though.
    _SMC RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Attach the computers power cable.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    _PRAM RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

  • Just replaced my fans, running at 000 RPM

    Hi guys,
I recently replaced the fans on my macbook pro because they were making horrible buzzing noises sometimes. I ocassionaly run games and movies on my laptop, and have not had much problem with overheating. However, after i got my new fans simple tasks were causing my mac to overheat and slow down my mac in general. I downloaded an application called SMCFancontrol to get my fans running, but no matter what i changed in the preferences, my fan speed stayed at 000 RPM, and simple tasks overheated my laptop. I guess my question is why is this happening and what are the easiest solutions to fix this?
    All answers are appreciated,
    Thanks

You did not install the fans correctly or did not connect the cables correctly or the fans are not the right models for your computer.

  • Manual creation of Project Site for a project is taking old project site template.

    Dear All,
I have modified the project site and save it as a template to associate it with an EPT so that the modification will reflect in new project sites.
For existing projects, I am deleting the old project sites (after taking backup) and recreating so that new modifications will be there for existing projects and I am able to do so.
But, for 1 of the project, when I have deleted the project site and recreated, still it is taking the old template (i.e. new modifications has not been seen).
Kindly advice in some areas so that I can jump in and around and can find out a solution so that the project site will take modified project template.
Example to get the issue in an easy way:
    ProjectA:
    Project Site: http://epm/pwa/ProjectA
    Issue List:
Column: Category [data type as Choice: Cat1, Cat2, Cat3]
Have saved 1 project site as a template and associated with an EPT with the following changes:
Column: Category [data type as Choice: Choice1, Choice2, Choice3]
Then, deleted the project site: http://epm/pwa/ProjectA and recreated.
So, it should take the modifications in the project site.
But, it is showing as Column: Category [data type as Choice: Cat1, Cat2, Cat3].

    Dear Guillaume,
    Thanks for your response.
    Please seem my comments inline:
Which Project Server version do you use?
    PS 2010
It is working well and as expected for all projects except for 1 specific project?
Yes. It is working well for other projects except 1 project.
    Has this project something particular?
Nope. It is similar as other projects.
How do you proceed to create the new project site? Do you go to the site actions, then new site and pick up your new template?
First I have modified 1 of the project site and saved that site as a template.
Then, I have deleted the existing project site (from Project Sites under Operational Policies) and recreated so that project site will gets created from the new template. But, it's not happening.
