10.10 Server, Netrestore of older versions of OS X

Here is a head scratcher that I am having some issues trying to figure out.
With the release of Yosemite server I decided to take it upon myself to convert my Mid2011 Mac Mini into a full fledged OS X Server, I have another machine that I use daily (2013 Retina MBP) so its the perfect opportunity to learn another server environment.
So far so good, its extremely easy to setup and maintain. But I decided I want to create a net restore server, This was no problem for OS X Yosemite, I was able to create a netboot, net install and net restore server with ease! The problem I ran into was creating any OS previous to Yosemite. The way I see it, I want a net restore and net install for any machines that incapible of running Yosemite, so the logical choice here is Lion. When I downloaded the Lion install off of the App Store, The System image utility point blank would not see the installer, so I was unable to create any images for net restore to use.
Has anybody ran into this issue? How have you gone about resolving it?

You need a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD; the Mac OS X 10.7 thumbdrives are hard to find and much more expensive. Mac OS X 10.6 DVDs are available from the online Apple Store in many countries.

Windows itunes 10.7 update break itunes (windows server 2008 x64) older version of itunes works fine

I just update itunes 10.7 to my (windows server 2008 R2) PC.
After update it stops to work...
Itunes just closes when tryning to start.
I did try repairn installation but status is same.
Old version was workin fine, how i can fix this?

Using XD storage server newer and older version on db node

Dear Team,
My customer is using the XD H/R and going to upgrade from 11.2.3.2.1 to 11.2.3.3.0.
but only 2 nodes of total 4 db nodes will be upgraded to 11.2.3.3.0.
(for later, the others are upgraeded.)
then, is it possible to use mixing different version on db node without any problems?

If you dig into an exacheck output you will find the following check.
Kernel version comparison across cluster
It mentions the following risk.
Potential cluster instability due to kernel version mismatch on cluster nodes.
It is possible that if the kernel versions do not match that some incompatibility
could exist which would make diagnosing problems difficult or bugs fixed in the
later kernel still being present on some nodes but not on others.
It is a best practice to complete the patching in one go.

Desktop 5.6.2 w/ older versions on the server

If clients are using various versions of XML Publisher, 5.0, 5.5, 5.6.1, or 5.6.2. Do I have to use the corresponding desktop utility to develop templates for those instances...
Or is it just a matter of "dumb-ing" down your templates if the server is running one of these older versions?

I am currently using version 5.6 Build 45 of the Template Builder for Word and running 5.6.1 - patch 4905678 on the server. I exported an .rtf template to XSL-FO using the template builder and got the java.lang error when running the template in XML Publisher.
Do the versions of the Template Builder and the server have to match exactly? Does anyone know where/how I can get the 5.6.1 version of the Template Builder for Word?
All info/suggestions appreciated.

Can we do a fresh install of TES 6.2.1 on a new server, but point to an database currently used by the older version (v5.3.x)

The current database is 2.5 gb, but it is already on SQL Server 2008, and doesn’t need to be upgraded.
In reading the documentation, it looks like the installer can install a fresh copy, which I’m assuming creates the requisite tables in the database. It can also update an existing install, along with updating the database table structure. What we weren’t sure of was if it could do a fresh install on a new server, but point to an database currently used by the older version of tidal. It does say ‘The database modifications are performed when the master is first started after the installation.’ in the upgrade section of 6.2.1 Quickstart Page 6-5. Hopefully that works regardless of if it was an upgrade or a fresh install.

I think you might have to go to SQL2012 with 6.2.1 (there's a ton of benefits like always on that make BCP/DR with Tidal very smooth.) We've been Tidal 6 /SQL2012 for a while now so I forget. we're about 80% done with our 5.3.1 conversion
We restore our 5.3.1 admiral database to a sandbox SQL2012 server, run some cleanup script (if not upgrade in place, don't forget to set queue to zero and disable all jobs)
We installed a tidal Master then run every major rev and point to that database. (6.0,6.1,6.2,6.2 sp1)
The database gets upgraded during the process (we have some trouble with our "older" 531 so we do the same thing each time)
We then can use transporter to transport "legacy" 531 jobs to our pristine Tidal 6.2.1 (non-prod ) environment so we can take advantage of mapping files, etc. to switch things as needed
This gives a lot of flexibility to moving things in when one piece or job set at a time.. we use it to move job frameworks into nonprod Tidal 6 so that developers and other groups can review / asses / rewrite / test / their jobs on tidal 6.

Backup, then restore to older version of sql server

I have a database on a sql server 2008 R2 ( Nov CTP ). I want to copy ( backup/restore ) a database to a prior version of sql server on a Vista PC. Version 10.50.1352 to 10.00.2531. I am getting an error on the restore saying I can't restore to an older version of sql server.
How can I copy the database?

I went to the our companies application server directory. I don't see an oc4j or j2ee directory.

How far back are you looking? ANd what, in particular, are you looking for ...
The history of the Oracle 'internet service' that I remember is roughly:
Web Server 2.1 (mid 1990s)
Web Application Server 3.x (mid 1990s)
Oracle Application Server 4.0.x (late 1990s)
Oracle Internet Application Server 1.0.x (2000)
Oracle Application Server 8i (basically 1.0.2.22.2.z)
Oracle Application Server 9i (9.0.2, 9.0.3)
Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4, 10.?.1)
Oracle had an initial J2EE container [attempt] with 4.0.x but that never really took off. I think that was really around the time of the last beta revisions for the JSP spec, and that's left us with the legacy of JServ apps. Seems like you would see OJSE, Oracle JSE (Java Server Engine?) in the docco and path.
IIRC, the current OC4J lineage started with around IAS 1.0.2 and has moved forward on what is now OC4J. There were some opportunities in the early days to improve consistency in the naming and directory structure areas. That has some lineage from Ironflare's Orion engine and so occasionally you see 'Orion' in the messages.

The installation don't fail because an "older" instance exists, it fail because an SQL Server instance with the same name already exits; SQLEXPRESS is the default name and very common, you will see a lot of machines running a SQLEXPRESS instance.
Instance names must be unique per machine, so use a different instance name for your application, e.g. "SQLRainerQueck"

Discovery Wizard pushes older version of agent to AIX server

I pushed an agent to one of our AIX 7.1 servers last week to test Unix/Linux monitoring. We got everything set up and working just fine.
I noticed today while poking around for RPM files for a Linux server that there are two versions of the SCX for AIX in the location C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\Operations Manager\Server\AgentManagement\UnixAgents\DownloadedKits: scx-1.4.1-292
and scx-1.5.0-128.
Moreover, only packages for AIX 5 and 6 exist with the lower SCX version number, while packages for AIX 5, 6, and 7 exist for the newer SCX version number.
What I am observing is that, while SCOM sees the server is running AIX 7.1, the reported agent version that I see in the SCOM console is 1.4.1-292 - the older version which didn't even have a package for AIX 7.
I'm concerned that the discovery wizard is 1) picking the older version of the SCX package when an newer one exists; and 2) it is installing an agent version which wasn't intended to be used on AIX 7.
Should we be manually installing agents on AIX 7.1 instead of trying to push from the console?

Shouldn't need to manually install, the Discovery Wizard should be smart enough to figure out what is the latest version of the agent that is in SCOM and what version to install based on the discovery of the system. Can you go to the agent and
run 'scxadmin -v' from a command prompt? This will tell you what version of the agent is really running on the system.
I believe if you try to install the wrong version of the agent on a system, say AIX 6 on a AIX 7 system, if will fail. Even if it does install I don't think the agent would start properly and you would have a lot of other issues other than just the wrong
version number.

Accessing older version of RMI server

I have a java 1.1.8 server running and when I try to access it with I have a RMI server running on java 1.1.8 and when I try to access it with 1.1.8 client it works fine. My question is, is it possible to access this with a new version of client? (1.3.1) I have tried this but I'm getting the
java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission servername resolve) exception.
I have a policy file allowing the required socket permissions but still get this exception. I'm not sure this is happening due to some incorrect setting or it�s not possible to access an older version of RMI server form a new version of client. Please can someone advice me on this?

This is for anybody who wants to do the same thing. Yes you can call older version of a RMI server from a new version of Client without problem.

Upgrade guide for users of older versions of Flash Media Server?

I'm looking around to see if anyone has sort of done a crossover or upgrade guide for people with older FMS installations.
We've been running the server since at least version 2, and haven't had to change much in upgrading to subsequent versions.
In doing so, we hadn't had to change to some of Adobe's newer ways of doing things with regards to configuration files, etc.
In setting up a test 4.5.x server, though... it appears we will likely want to really change the way we are doing things.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a comprehensive site that would sort of cover topics in a "if you did this this way before, do it this way now" sort of instructions.
