  • 32-bit Oracle UEK kernel in Oracle Linux 6.1

According to the release notes for Oracle Linux 6 update 1 at http://oss.oracle.com/ol6/docs/RELEASE-NOTES-U1-en the Oracle UEK kernel is also available in a 32-bit version. It seems some previous documentation needs updating, e.g. Oracle Linux FAQ http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/027617.pdf. There is also a UEK kernel source rpm in the public yum repository available for 32-bit OL 5.6.
I was just wondering if this is this due to customer demand, or whether there are technical reasons to provide a 32-bit version? I thought the 32-bit platform was obsolete by now, and if I'm not mistaken, Oracle 11.2.0.2 for instance is x86_64 only.

If you check "/proc/cpuinfo" and have the "lm" flag:
    $ fgrep -w lm /proc/cpuinfo
and get any non-error output, then you have a 64-bit capable CPU. If you have a 64-bit capable system, you will probably be running an x86_64 kernel as the:
    $ uname -a ~
    Linux oel5.moth.darkzone.un 2.6.18-53.1.14.0.1.el5 #1 SMP Wed Mar 5 19:19:58 EST 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
command shows. If your output shows "i386" instead of "x86_64" then you are running 32-bit system.
    A 64-bit system can run either 32-bit (i386) or 64-bit (x86_64) RPM packages, a 32-bit system can only run the i386 packages.
Unfortunately, the default output from "rpm -q" does not display the RPM package architecture. Use the command:
    $ rpm -qa --qf='%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}.%{ARCH}\n' foo
    will display the complete information.
You will be able to install both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of these packages, if you need them. Just use the style:
    # rpm -ivf /path/to/32/bit/package
    # rpm -ivg /path/to/64/bit/package
In other words, do not use the "-U" (update) switch or the second package will delete the first.

  • Win 7-64 Bit not recognizing bt500 Bluetooth connection - Linux "Isadora" sees it

None of my 3 Win 7 (one is 32 bit - Other two are 64 Bit) computers will find (discover) the bt500 Bluetooth on my Photosmart C5580 all-in-one printer. Linux "Isadora" recognized it in an instant, showing the printer's IP address. Security setting is set to "Low" and "View by All" is set in "Setup." Even manually typing in IP address does not seem to work. Am I missing something here?

Far be it from us to argue with success!  Congrats on finding a solution.  :-)

  • I need to download a windows 32 bit version of firefox from a Linux computer

Sorry I can't work out how to do the above after a few minutes of trying. My windows 7 machine has been taken over by malware and prevents the download.I think the malware originated from a website pretending to be mozilla.org which I accidentally clicked on.Reinstalling windows has not fixed the problem.i guess they have a robot installing malware to my ip address or something. The offending website is the one that pops up as the number one advertised website when you search for "mozilla firefox" on bing. The website does not appear on google on my Linux machine.Perhaps the malware is introducing the fake website into my search results.I don't know ,I am not an expert.

A possibility is to open the Mozilla FTP website in <u>Windows Explorer</u> and download the Firefox setup file that way.

I have iTunes 11.1.4 installed on a Lenovo X1 Carbon with Windows 8 64-bit. It will start and I can play music, sync devices, and update existing applications. Unfortunately, it crashes every time I try to load the store.
I have tried launching in safe mode, re-installing, adding the Apple Application Support directory to my path, and removing the preference files. When it crashes, this is the error message:

I tried many solutions, from compatibility mode, to running as admin and even reinstalling all the apple software. Nothing did the trick.
I finally figure it out a way to fix it. Roll back to an older version, pretty much what Atlas Axe did. However, I didn't have an old installer backed up so I had to look for it on the web.
    This is what I did:
    1. Download itunes 11.1.0
       Instructions: http://warrington.ufl.edu/itsp/docs/TAC_InstallingiTunes.pdf
       Direct links:
          - Windows32-bit 94.08MB https://secure-appldnld.apple.com/iTunes11/041-8597.20130918.PmmEw/iTunesSetup.e xe
          - Windows64-bit 95.76MB https://secure-appldnld.apple.com/iTunes11/041-8598.20130918.Exe55/iTunes64Setup .exe
    2. Uninstall all apple software.
       Instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
In a nutshell, uninstall these programs. MUST uninstall in the listed order.
          - iTunes
          - Apple Software Update
          - Apple Mobile Device Support
          - Bonjour
          - Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
    3. Reboot your system
    4. Install Itunes 11.1.0 from the just downloaded installer.

  • Anyone running UPK 3.5 (Server) on Windows 2003-64 bit?

I am trying to install UPK 3.5 Server on Windows 2003-64 bit, with the Oracle 11g client, connecting to an 11.1.0.7 Oracle database that's on a remote server. The installation is failing with a connectivity error that I suspect is related to the 64-bit configuration. But before I throw in the towel and revert to Windows 2003-32 bit, I thought I'd see if anyone out there is successfully using the 64-bit version who can help me out.
Thanks in advance for your assistance,
    Janene

Ok, So I am finally able to install UPK 3.5.1 on Windows 2008 Server 64 bit.
My database sit on linux machine which is OEL 5 64 bit.
Now , I am facing different issues :( .. like windows authntication and user privilges even though the user i am using in installer has SYSDBA privilges still it doesnt take it
installation guide is pathetic .. sorry to say ..
    my solution was this ..
The development team has gotten back to me. They have requested stated the following:
"This error is an Oracle message. We have addressed this particular error a few times. The error message indicates that our installer is not finding an Oracle ODBC driver to use to make the connection. The installer looks in the registry for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ODBC Drivers key to find any with "Oracle" in the name to try connecting with. Please get a screenshot of this registry key."
If the registry is empty, please attach the screenshot and navigate to: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html.
Unzip the 32 bit into C:\Oracle\instantclient_11_1_X32 folder. You have to unzip both the instantclient-basic-win32-11.1.0.6.0.zip and instantclient-odbc-win32-11.1.0.6.0.zip.
After unzipping, run the odbc_install.exe this will install and register the driver for the 32 bit into the (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ODBC Drivers).
thanks guys .. please always share ur solutions..

  • Upgrading Linux java 1.4.2 AMD 64 bit edition with Daylight Saving Time

I am running 64 bit version of Java 1.4.2 It is the linux blackdown version because at the time Sun did not support a 64 bit version. Now I would like to upgrade java to fix the possible problems with the Daylight Savings Time change.
I have tried the tzupdater tool released by Sun but it did not work on my 64 bit machine, stating it could not find any tzone data to update.
Next I looked into updating the JRE itself but it appears that Sun still does not offer a AMD 64 bit version for 1.4.2 linux. They only seem to have support for 64 bit in Java 5 and 6.
Any ideas as to my best migration path? Should I consider taking the plunge and upgrading straight to Java 6 - although this will require updating Tomcat also and possibly breaking many of the 3rd party jar files we have in use.

My OS configuration is identical to your (save for the graphics card) and I do not experience these issues at all. I run pop-up blockers, firewalls, etc., etc., myself, and even mess around extensively with my browser settings (for debugging my own development), and have only EVER experienced an apparent lock-up under one condition:
If an applet is signed, and pops up and dialog, OR if there is any other condition under which the PLUGIN displays a dialog box, and during this time your browser is no longer in focus, when you reactive the browser window, the dialog box does not appear in the front. What I'm saying is that there might be an active MODAL DIALOG box, but which is not being seen. These dialog boxes do not appear on the taskbar under windows (just like the calendar doesn't) but you can active it by using the Alt+Tab function of Windows. When I've experienced support calls regarding this sort of problem, I get the user to check Alt+Tab to check if there is a hidden dialog box (which is most often the case, since we used signed applets).
I'm also a little confused by your reference to http://www.giga-byte.com - this site doesn't even load an applet when I open it.

  • JDeveloper 11.1.2 install on Oracle Linux 6 U1 64 bit

I am trying to install jDeveloper on Oracle Linux 6 U1 (6.1) and keep getting a variety of errors. I know that jDeveloper does not support 64 bit Operating Systems very well. However with the majority of new systems being 64 bit and the memory limitations of 32 bit is jDeveloper going to move into the next century and support 64 bit jvm's and operating systems natively? When will this happen?

You might be having issues with JDeveloper on Oracle Linux 6, however - the WebLogic install scripts, etc. do not include support for Oracle Linux 6 as of yet, nor Java 7.
Take a look at the certification matrix for operating systems and Java versions in JDeveloper:

  • Bluetooth on 64-bit operating systems.

I have a MSI bluetooth adapter used in my last system. I want to use this one in my new Athlon 64-based system.  But the motherboard (K8N Neo4-FI) doesn't have such a bluetooth connection. Now I know it's possible to connect it on an usb pin header (with a small modification).
But are there drivers for Windows XP for 64-bit extended systems and/or for Linux 64-bit? I installed it and the BT-adapters works fine with Windows XP Professional.  But not with the 64-bit version. I didn't tried out Linux compatibility yet.

+The problem is that now I have to port the application to 64 bit code so that should run on 64 bit native platforms and as I know ,Crystal Reports has no support for RDC on 64 bit platforms.
The question is :what should be done to permit to a 64 bit COM-based application still to use RDC engine (engine from Crystal Reports XI R2)?+
    - not possible. There is, nor will there ever be a 64 bit RDC. Your only option is to use .NET with CR 10.2 (bundles with .NET 2005) or CR 10.5 (bundles with .NET 2008). No other versions of CR are 64 bit. BTW, neither CR 10.2 not CR 10.5 ships the RDC. You have to go with the .NET assemblies.

  • Is my firefox 64 bit or 32 bit

That is all I want to know How do I find out if i have firefox 64 or 32 bit????????

Your user agent in more system details on right of your post shows this.
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; '''WOW64'''; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0.1
Note the '''WOW64''' as this means it is a 32-bit app running on 64-bit Windows.
Mozilla does not have 64-bit Firefox releases for Windows yet while there has been 64-bit builds for Mac OSX and Linux since Firefox 4.0

There is currently no support for LabVIEW on 64-bit architectures, either on Windows or Linux. LabVIEW will still install and run properly if your operating system has a 32-bit compatibility mode.

  • Where is the 64-bit version?

It is a bit silly that there still doesn't seem to be a 64-bit version of Skype available for Linux. Do they even produce 32-bit hardware nowadays and are Windows only running 32-bit? What ever the reason - I do not care. I just want my install to be simple, stable and consistent. For my part that means that no other installed software on my computer demands 32-bit libraries. I KNOW how to move over to multiarch, but that is just a plain stupid move to do and even suggest that will show your lack of knowledge.

I am facing the same problem....Skype for rhel 6.5 for 64 bit is not working...how could the support team remain silent..I have asked the same questions as you have mentioned accordingly many days back but still support time seems to be silent
