10.2.0.3 cloning installation

Hello,
I am experiencing technical issues with my cloned installation, i wanted at first doing a full complete silent installation using SE.rsp, dbca.rsp and patch.rsp but could not get through at all so many parameters and so many bugs to solve out.
I have decided to do a cloned installation:
First of all,do i have to set up only the 10.2.0.3 version including the patch or do i have to set up the database also to get a full ORACLE_HOME that i ll bve able to compress afterward?
To be honnest i have the oracle procedure with scripts but cannot get trough, if anyone has already done a full cloned installation, i ll be very happy to share its experience.
Thank you

Hi,
Oh i forgot to tell that i am installing under windows XP pro, 2008 server and 2003 server.
Basicaly,
I have already installed binairies with patches / config my database using dbca config tool / doing an import from a dump using import export tool / the following step is to create template from the database just created still using GUI
that i can use for my cloned installation. All steps with GUI
thel situation is everything is ok
ORACLE_ROOT: D:\Oracle
ORACLE_HOME: D:\Oracle\product\10.2.0\db_adn
SID: ADN
USER: 1 and 2 both running properly
the next step must to compress ORACLE_HOME without *.log; *.dbf; sqlnet.ora; listener.ora; tnsnames.ora
ORACLE_HOME/<hostname>_<SID>
ORACLE_HOME/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_DBConsole_<hostname>_<SID>
and replacing Standard database templates by mines
Do i have to copy first the ORACLE_HOME before deleting all files above?
What is the next step?
regards,
Chris

• HDD cloning

Hi community,
I just bought a bigger HDD (WD 750GB) for my MB alu.
What's the best way to copy the present HDD into the bigger one and than swapping it inside?
Do I have to install OS first or the cloning installs everything.
Thanks

what kind of details?
Some need more detail with processes than others. Ex: Formatting for Mac.. They would need more detail like which buttons to push, how to locate a drive in Disk Utility, etc..
does migration assistant work in this case?
No need for Migration Assistant usage in my post. The clone has everything. It's an exact duplicate of the old drive. The OS, the apps, the settings, everything.

• Photoshop CS6 in Mavericks sometimes forgets where it is

My system is a new Mac Pro ("iCan" version) running Mavericks. I installed CS6 Production Premium from DVD as a full, clean install using all default settings. None of my other apps seem to exhibit the following behavior:
I have the Ps icon in my dock. When I "open using" an image, frequently a second icon appears on my dock instead of using the existing one. Also, if I open Ps using the dock icon, load an image, then "open using" a different image, a second instance of Ps opens instead of the image opening in the currently-open instance of Ps.
Also, every now and then when I open Ps it says the app has moved.
This was not a migration of any kind, it was a clean default install onto a new machine from the original DVD. As I noted, none of my other CS6 apps appear to do this, only Ps.
Should I uninstall Ps and re-install? Uninstall and clean out the whole CS6 installation? Something less drastic?
Many thanks in advance.

Okay, I believe I've found the problem. I have an external drive connected, onto which I peridiocally back up my whole system drive using Carbon Copy Cloner. I uninstalled Ps and then as a test tried to open a .psd image, and Mavericks went to the cloned installation. Having a second installation where Mavericks can see it is causing confusion.
Hope this helps someone.

• Getting Incomplete Ebooks

I have been having a problem recently with the quality of the ebooks I get from the store... simply speaking.. there are incomplete
the page number are correct but the content is clearly not there.. I hvae had issues with corrupted downloads before where a delete and redownload corrects.
This doesnot happen with all the books just certain ones.... most of the problems I have had have been with the Robert B Parker Soenser series
I have reported it as incomplete  and i did receive a couple of refunds but now they say store policy is that all sales are final (essentially a computer generated response with random names assigned)
I got one bot to repond with a non generated message and said tehye would look into it..
Last time I checked commercoal code says contract is valid when offer is made,, accepted /delivered and payment.. well i have made my payment and found incomplete books
I guess I could use the buyer protection plan oin my credit card...
I have offered to acceot corected books

Hello,
The code snippet provided with this question was used in the lab in an attempt to reproduce the problem; behavior did not occur. Also to note: several (3rd party) applications have used this function for years with no reports of such behavior (as far as the R&D team is aware.)
This may be specific to a particular environment. Suggestion: try the code on a completely separate setup (i.e. avoid cloned installations or hosts that are configured from a similar template.) Does the behavior change?

• How to reinstall Leopard from another source than the install disk?

Hi there. Great forum full of information but I somehow could not find the answer to my problem.
I own a MacBook Pro and for some reason, the Optical drive refuses to read DVD and CD. It still accepts blank CD and does write....strange.
I can live with that, but what will I do if and when my Mac needs access to the install disk that came with it?
Today I partitioned an external Lacie HD with the intention of installing OS Leopard on it. I thought this would be an ideal solution as a back up strategy. Files in one volume, OS in another.
I have copied the content of both install disks on my desk top through firewire using my good lady's macbook (tiger) but when I click on the install icon, I get a negative message.

What is the way of doing this?
Also, is it possible to reformat an reinstall the OS through firewire using the other macBook optical drive?
Thanks

You must be sure the drive is partitioned GUID or it will not boot a computer from the cloned installer disc.
You may want to consider getting a flash drive. An 8 GB flash drive will hold the OS X installer and a 16 GB one will hold the installer and Disc 2 (need to partition the flash drive.) Take care what brand you buy. Some don't work too well for booting Macs. I've had good success with PNYs. Prep them as follows:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
The above works, also, for external hard drives.

• Cloned Mavericks installation has lost the Recovery HD drive

Finally my DVD Superdrive died on my early 2008 Macbook Pro 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4,1 (A1260), with 6GB RAM (Max)
I took the opprotunity to take  out the Superdrive and used a caddy to install a second  hard drive in its place.
Before installation I cloned my Mavericks installation from the old 750GB Toshiba HD (Drive-B) onto a new 1TB Seagate Hybrid (Drive-A) using CCC. I then took out  Drive-B, installed the new Drive-A in its place, and installed Drive-B in the superdrive caddy. (See picture)
Upon restarting I booted into my new Drive-A installation and have tested it for the past 24 hours. All is indeed working well, and I can boot from either drive. Both drives are identical, except that the cloning process did not copy the "Recovery HD" partition from Drive-B onto  Drive-A (from which I am currently booted).
I now want to take Drive-B out and put it into its own external enclosure, and replace it with a newly formatted 1TB Seagate Hybrid (Drive-C).
I have two questions and would appreciate some considered advice please. Thanks in advance...
On  Drive-C I want to install a bootable copy of Snow Leopard for software compatibility reasons; however doing so will therefore mean that I have no "Recovery HD' partition anywhere on my system. The possible solution to restore a "Recovery HD" partition may be to run the "Install OS X Mavericks.dmg" (which I have a saved copy of on another partition) by copying it to Drive-A's "/Applications" folder and run it from there to repair my installation. Is this correct?
My second question is, what would be the best and most efficient way to run a such a setup on my laptop (2 x 1TB bootable hard drives, one running Mavericks and one Snow Leopard)? If I run a Spotlight search for an application, I would not want two instances of two separate installations to pop up. Should I go into each installation and preclude its Spotlight from searching the other's installation disk? Would it be better to run the Snow Leopard from an external drive and use Drive-C as a Time Machine of Drive-A?

Update...
Regarding question 1
I managed to reinstall the OS X Installer on Drive-B and tested it - it worked fine and restored my Recovery HD drive.
After testing it for a few hours, I then did the same for the new Drive-A. It went swimmingly.
I now have a Recovery HD drive on both drives, confirmed by using Terminal to check using "diskutil list" (lists all connected drives)
So now I have two Mavericks installations on my comp, and keep updating the B drive with A's changes as I go along using CCC. I have just ordered another Seagate Hybrid 1TB and will use that for the second drive in my comp and use B as a secondary external storage.
Thanks for the advice folks and would still appreciate 'considered' advice about question 2 - how best to use two separate drives installed in one comp.

• Loosing network settings after cloning a working installation to another machine

Hi all,
we're actually preparing a basic installation for a few users for testing Mavericks in our environment.
Everything seems to work fine except the network settings. If we clone to exactly the same machine type (eg. MacMini 4,1) all works nicely but when we colne to a MacMini 5,3 all settings are gone (DNS, domains, IPv6, proxy).
The settings seem to live in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ and dropping the files "preferences.plist" and/or "NetworkInterfaces.plist" from one machine to another breaks the settings.
Is there a new place to put a kind of default netork settings plist that isn't overwritten or corrupted when copied?
Hope you habe some hints to me!  Thanxx...          A3k

Hi all,
since we didn't found a solution for this we stopped trying to put the network settings in the template but instead we setup the network with a little shell script at first start using "networksetup".
Thanks for taking a look...      A3k

• Cloning arch desktop installation to a laptop

hi!
my installation of archlinux on my desktop is much like i want it to be.
it took some work and time to set it up like that.
now i want to have exactly the same installation on my new laptop.
same packages, same config for all the programs, the kde desktop, etc
different hardware (both 64 bit, but the laptop got intel cpu/ati gpu, the desktop amd cpu, nv gpu)
there must be a way to do this in an elegant and quick way?
would be awesome to get some hints on how to do that..

I've done this myself and it worked flawlessly. Make sure to adjust all necessary files in step 2, though.
Exactly.  Pretty much every user-wide setting is stored in hidden directories (starts with a dot) in the home folders, and every system-wide setting is stored in /etc.  If you copy /etc and ~/.* to the other machine and install the packages you want, you should have the same settings.  This will be the case even if you copy the configs first, and install the packages second.
You don't even have to reinstall packages and such, just copy over the entire root partition and all packages are there and under pacman control exactly as they were on the machine you're copying from.

• Cloning complete installation to a different environment

Hi,
We have a Production and a QA environment. We use Windows Backup to make complete system backups of all Hyperion servers. This backups strategy has been tested by breaking QA and requesting a restore from IT.
Business now asked the question: Is it possible to restore the Production backup onto the QA servers? From a business point of view the question makes sense, since a restore like this will only take 2 hours and you would have a clone of Production on QA.
Once the Production backup is restored, it will obviously be looking for the Productio IP's if you start it up.
My question is: Will it be possible to reconfigure the QA environment, after the PD backup was restored on it, to point it to the QA IP's instead?
Also, if this is at all possible, will Oracle have problems in supporting an environment like this?
(Verison 11.1.2.1 on Windows 2008 x64 with MSSQL Server)
Regards,
Casper

Hi user3641156,
Thanks for the reply.
Can you maybe clarify what you mean by "it will be equal to a fresh install/config"?
Do you mean on the database side? Will I need to configure Shared Services as a "first time" and not as a previously configured db?
Do you maybe have an answer for my other question: Will Oracle have any issue in supporting an environment that was created like this? (Although I don't see why not).

• Clean installation of windows 8.1 pro on Thinkpad e550 activation problems.

I have installed a SSD hard drive and need a clean instalations of windows for development using multiple platforms.
My plan was to have a tri-boot on three partitions on a mbr formated drive.
-Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit;
-WIndows 8.1 Pro 32bit, and;
-WIndows 7 Ultimate 64bit using downgrade rights.
The following steps were used:
1. Switching the hard drive and cloning the oem copy to the first partition;
2. Activate windows getting the OEM key from the system (so I had no hardware changes);
3.Use the anytime upgrade in the system properties to upgrade to pro;
4.Clone the windows 7 OS from the old PC and place in on a partion;
5.Download both install media for windows 8.1 Pro from MS Creating Install media;
6. Create media as detailed here;
7. Modify the install to allow entry of key after install as shown here because pro license and oem keys where not acepted during install;
8.Went to BIOS. Turned on Legacy and disable secure boot;
9.Install Windows 8.1 both versions, and;
10. Repair boot to load all three OS.
Good, Now I have all three OS installed all working. However, The pro product key will not activate the windows 8.1 pro and the oem key won't be acepted saying it is the wrong version of windows.
So called MS activation line and they say i need to contact the OEM for activation and downgrade keys for 7 even though i paid for the upgrade through the MS store and the product was already activated once on the system.
Questions:
1. How can i activate the Windows 8.1 pro via Lenovo?
2. How can I activate the Windows 7 copy under downgrade rights with Windows 8.1 pro?
3. Am i missing something with the UEFI/BIOS? (Note:I need to use mbr not GPT format on the drive.)
I have switch the UEFI mode/duel modes during install without success.

What VC are you using?
I use VMWare Player (free) and use it to create virtual clients as needed.  Typically the virtual clients are "clean installs" from ISOs.  VMWare has it so well mechanized that there's not much to it.
It's pretty quick and easy to install Player and give it a try.  Another advantage to that approach is that there's only a single OS at the top level and backups can capture the whole mess w/out having to deal with 2 or 3 different OSs and their partitions.

After a full day of reading forums to no avail, Apple Support actually solved this issue.  In OS 10.8.4, no Abode Cloud app would launch.  The splash screen would appear and that's it.  This solved it -
This how you repair/reset a user's permissions and ACLs in Lion. You need to run theresetpassword utility.
Restart Lion holding down CMD+R.
This brings up the Repair Utilities screen. On top, in the Menu Bar click the Utilities item then select Terminal.
In the Terminal window, type resetpassword and hit the return key.
The Password reset utility launches, but you’re not going to reset the password.Instead, click on the icon for your Mac’s hard drive at the top. From the drop-down below it, select the user account where you are having issues.
At the bottom of the window, you’ll see an area labeled ‘Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs’. Click the Reset button there.
The reset process takes a couple of minutes. Repeat for all accounts and then restart.

• Error "RC-50013" in ApplyAppsTechStack for Step 3 of 5 (53% and 92%) R12 installation

I've tried to install R12 on Windows Server 2003 32-bit as well as 2008 64-bit.
Both instances generated seemed to hang at Step 3 of 5: 53% total and 92% (Registering Tech Stack)
I'm using Cygwin and Visual Studio 8 that were configured based on this guide: http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/84997033/eBusiness%20Suite%20Installation%20Guide.pdf
The OUI states that ompn has been started and no other actions are displayed.
The command: ps -ef | grep opmn returned nothing which tells me there were no processes running in regards to opmn.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
