10.2.0.3 DBUA Error

I downloaded pat 5337014 in order to upgrade my 10.2.0.2 databases to 10.2.0.3
1. Originally installed Oracle 10.2.0.1 on RHEL 4 32-Bit without a database
2. Applied the 10.2.0.2 patch then created a DB
3. Successfully installed the 10.2.0.3 patch
4. Received an error when attempting to upgrade the DB using the DBUA assistant
Error: DBUA thinks this is a Rerun operation and is trying to connect to the database with oracle home /app/product/10.2.0/db_1. If you believe this is not a Rerun operation, remove the below file and invoke DBUA again.
/app/product/10.2.0/db_1/cfgtoollogs/dbua/logs/Welcome_orcl.txt
1. This is not a Rerun and this file does not exist
2. To make sure, I moved the /app/product/10.2.0/db_1/cfgtoollogs/dbua directory and tried it again, but received the same error.
Any suggestions? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Is it your intent to run a 10.2.0.4 database on a lower version of ASM?
If not patch the ASM home and first.

I then found that ctr101.dbf had permissions of "rw-r-r". I gave 777 permission.aborted dbua and again started dbua. However it still gives the same problem.
If you note the alert log...then 10g is trying to start while 9i is already running.i then shutdown and started 9i again and then started dbua...however it again gives the same error.
    How do i resolve it?

    Hi,
I would quickly identify some of the errors that I'm seeing in the log:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
This is probably occuring due to invalid entries in /etc/oratab and /var/opt/oracle/oratab, where ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID are not properly defined. This could also be due to invalid entries within the listener file. Further to this, you may try to read through the following Metalink Note to resolve this issue:
    https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:14:2840960078839325001::::p14_database_id,p14_docid,p14_show_header,p14_show_help,p14_black_frame,p14_font:NOT,302510.1,1,1,1,helvetica
A similar issue is being discussed here ORA-27086: unable to lock file over NFS -- but it's NOT Netapp!
SVR4 Error: 11: Resource temporarily unavailable
This is probably over-writing some already existing/production control files. Try pointing CONTROL_FILES parameter within init.ora to point to a new location. Once this is done you must now change the location of your datafiles, and finally change the location of your redo log files.
ORA-205 signalled during: ALTER DATABASE MOUNT
This again is falling in succession to the errors being popped up against the control files. Try to start the database without mounting it and check for the control files in v$parameter2.
Lastly, you may also want to check if the database is starting from the spfile instead of the pfile. If it is, alter it to start from the pfile.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Naveed.

  • DBUA errors out after collecting server information

    Hi,
We are in the process of upgrading Oracle Database from 9i to 11g on AIX 6.1. After installing the Oracle Software 11g (11.2.0.1) we try to run the DBUA but after showing the screen collecting server information a blank page appears (with no error code) after which the DBUA stops.
Please any hints or any comments.
    Thanks.

  • DBUA Error - 8.1.7.4 10.2.0.3

I am running DBAU to upgrade a DB from 8.1.7.4 to 10.2.0.3. I am getting a strange error message. Right after DBUA asks me which database to upgrade, it then does it gathering of the DB information. I get a dialog box that comes up with the red bell, and the number 0 (that's a zero), with a "OK" button to click. There is no other error message of any kind, and nothing of value in the dbua logfiles. When I click the OK button, it goes back to the selection DB to upgrade screen. Any ideas? I have not had this happen on my four previous DB upgrades.

    Hello,
you have a problem with one of your parameters in your spfile or pfile.
It cant be parsed from the dbua-parser. You can find out which
parameter is wrong by looking in the trace file (the last parameter shown is ok, you have a problem with the parameter following this one -> compare trace file with your spfile). There is a Metalink Note for this: 376270.1

  • DBUA issue with timezones when upgrading 11.2.0.2 to 11.2.0.3

My task is to migrate an Oracle 11.2.0.2 test database (source database) to 11.2.0.3. The source database hat timezone files (RDBMS DST) version 18 installed. OS ist Windows 2008 R2.
I installed the 11.2.0.3 patchset into a separate Oracle Home (target) to perform an "Out-of-place"-upgrade. According to Note 1358166.1 I also installed the corresponding timezone files (version 18) into the target Oracle Home by applying the corresponding patch set using Opatch. The patch succeeded, and new files were copied into the \oracore\zoneinfo subdirectory under the target's Oracle Home. The files included a file named "readme_18.txt". As there is no database under the target Oracle Home there is no way to do the rest of the installation steps as described in Note 977512.1 (i.e. DBMS_DST.UPGRADE_DATABASE)
When I started the DBUA GUI from the Windows Start Menu (the version from the target Oracle Home), the source database was found, however during the analysis phase I got an error message stating that the timezone files on the target database have a lower version that the timezone files of the source database. The error in the trace.log (subdirectory of ORACLE_BASE\cfgtoollogs\dbua) reads:
*[PreMigrationCheck.checkTZVersion:101] new oracle home TZ file version 14 and source oracle home TZ file version 18*
To ensure that this problem is not resolved with one of the patchsets, I deinstalled the targed Oracle Home, reinstalled the 11.2.0.3 release, applied the latest patchset (Patch 13) using OPatch and then applied the timezone files version 18 using OPatch: Same error as before.
I started reading tons of documents, but I found nothing about this error in the forum or other places in the internet. So I started experimenting and I found a workaround: In the \oracore\zoneinfo subdirectory I renamed
    - readme.txt to readme_14.txt and
    - readme_18.txt to readme.txt
When I started DBUA again, the error did not return and I was able to migrate.
Question: Did I use a suitable workaround, or is there a better way to circumvent the DBUA error? Maybe I missed an important step.
    Regards
    Christoph

I would suggest that you open an SR with Support on this issue

    Hi Gurus !!!
During upgrade from 9.2 to 10.2 we have install 10.2.0.4 patches and now we are ready to call dbua (upgrade assistant).

You also need to set the JAVA_HOME environment variable.
For unix after login to the oraSID user
setenv JAVA_HOME /opt/java1.4(java location may differ check in ur system)
then check the version of the java with command java -version
if still you are getting the error

  • Version 1.1.0.23 freezing up when accessing recently upgraded 10.2.0.2 db

I still have old and new versions installed, and I noticed that the new version will freeze when I access one of my 10.2.0.2 databases (recently upgraded from 9.2.0.6). When I try against other 10.2.0.2 databases I don't see the freeze.
I can switch to the old version of SQLDeveloper (1.0.0.15.57) and connect to the same account / database and not have any freeze issues. Plus, my other tools appear to be functioning normally.
At first I thought that the migration of previous settings in SQLDeveloper was the culprit, but I've tested a clean install without migration and have the same problem. It appears to be something with the upgraded database, but I didn't have any dbua errors that would indicate an issue with the upgrade.
    Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Error in DBUA while upgrading oracle 9.2 - 10.2  with sistem copy

    Hi experts!
we are in a critical upgrade project, and faced the following
error while performing a system copy/upgrade of oracle version
from 9.2 to 10.2 (windows 2000 32bit to win 2003 64bits) acording to the procedure indicated in
sapnote: Note 932722 - Upgrade to Oracle 10.2 during a database copy
we checked all the prerequisites, followed all the steps with

    Please Advise!! Best Regards Ricardo

Hi Mark, first of all thanks for the reply.
after talking to sap support, we came to the conclusion that the problem was on the dbma.jar file
    atached to the note 932722.
the file is missing java classes, so the dbua doenst work, because, the remotedua.pl script,
copies the file dbma.jar of the note, to the original one in the oracle instalation.
it renames the original to ".0", so if you run the script two times, the original is lost.
the problem was solved by requesting another dbma.jar file from sap.
sap probably will correct note 932722, in order to update the attached dbma.jar file to a good one.
    Best Regards,
    Ricardo Caramona

  • DBUA is throwing below error in step 1

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade 9.2.0.7 to 10.2.0.
DBUA is throwing below error in step 1:
There is an error in creating the following process: C:\oracle\ora92\bin\sqlplus -s/nolog
    The error is: createprocess:C:\oracle\ora92\bin\sqlplus -s/nolog
    error:193
I can login as sysdba ,using C:\oracle\ora92\bin\sqlplu for both 9i as well as 10g home
i did set oracle_home to C:\oracle\ora92, using command prompt.
Please suggest what needs to be done. Thanks
    Ron

What you have written does not compute.
How many Oracle homes do you have?
If more than 1 ... explain how you can log into 9i and 10g using a single home?
Please explain in detail what document you are following (post a link) and what steps you have taken based on the document.
And why are you upgrading to software that will begin desupport in four weeks? If you are going to put in the effort why not at least get a system that will be fully supported when you are done?

  • DBUA rerun error

I keep getting the follow error trying to upgrade my DB.
DBUA thinks this is a Rerun operation and is trying to connect to the database with oracle home /oracle/m11g/db11g. If you believe this is not a Rerun operation, remove the below file and invoke DBUA again. /oracle/m11g/cfgtoollogs/dbua/logs/Welcome_oem11g.txt
Where is this file ? I cannot find it anywhere..

    Hi,
Then why the location for you is showing "/oracle/m11g/cfgtoollogs/dbua/logs/" instead of "/oracle/m11g/db11g/cfgtoollogs/dbua/logs/" ?
Or did you meant above is the typo?
Anyways what is the current state of the database that needed to be upgraded? And what is the entire error message you are getting.
    1) Is your database started with startup upgrade?
If no then please do so and re run dbua
    and if yes then
    you can do below cleanup.
    a. In the $ORACLE_ HOME/cfgtoollogs/dbua/<$ORACLE_SID> of database being upgraded,
there are multiple upgrade directories (i.e. upgrade, upgrade0, ...., upgradeN)
    b. Go to the directory $ORACLE_HOME/cfgtoollogs/dbua/<$ORACLE_SID>
    c. Move all the upgrade* directory to some other location.
    d. Re-run the DBUA
    Regards

i had set the PATH,ORACLE_SID,ORACLE_HOME,LD_LIBRARY_PATH but still getting the error.
    Please suggest a fix.

Do you have JAVA_HOME set in your environment?
    What's the result of
    env
Make sure DBCA is calling the java under $ORACLE_HOME not from other installation.
