  • DBCA error on Caldera OpenUnix 8

I installed Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition Database on OpenUNIX 8 (SCO UnixWare 7.1.3 + Caldera OpenLinux 3.1.1 RPM). Net Assistant was completed automatically after the installation while the next tool (Database Configuration Assistant) didn't run correctly, so I had to complete the instalation without creating any database. Runing that tool after (bash-2.05$ ./dbca )shows the same error message, as below :

  • Using dbca to extend RAC cluster error

    Hi all,
I'm trying to extend my 11gR2 RAC cluster (POC) using the Oracle documentation (http://vishalgupta.com/oracle/docs/Database11.2/rac.112/e10718/adddelunix.htm). I've already cloned and extended Clusterware and ASM (Grid Infrastructure) to the new node, as well as cloned the RAC database software to the new node. When I run the below statement to have dbca extend add a new instance on the node for the RAC I get the error shown:
    CMD:
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbca -silent -addInstance -nodeList newnode13 -gdbName racdb -instanceName racdb4 -sysDBAUserName sys
    -sysDBAPassword manager123
    ERROR:
    cat racdb0.log
"Adding instance" operation on the admin managed database racdb requires instance configured on local node. There is no instance configured on the local node "newnode13".
I set ORACLE_HOME before running dbca, and I've also tried setting ORACLE_SID to both racdb4 and racdb, no change. My environment is below, any help is appreciated.
    OS: SLES 11.1
    Database: 11.2.0.1
    Existing Nodes: node01,node02, node03
    New Node: newnode13
    DB Name: racdb
    Instances: racdb1, racdb2, racdb3
    New Instance: racdb4
    Thanks.

Silly me, I was running the command from the new node instead of an existing node. I guess it was a rough weekend after all. Thanks all!

I've had a very similar problem with DBCA and creation of an 11.2.0.3 database and this ORA-00119:Invalid specification for system parameter REMOTE_LISTENER ORA-00132: syntax error or unresolved network name 'orapscan:1521'.
The solution to my problem was that on the host (a production host) that I was trying to execute DBCA from if I did a 'tnsping orapscan' it did not resolve.
On our development host a 'tnsping oradscan' (oradscan is the scan equivalent in dev for our production equivalent orapscan) it resolves ok.
    ie.
    13:22:15[oracle@euxq10 [eu11d] ~]$tnsping oradscan
TNS Ping Utility for Linux: Version 11.2.0.3.0 - Production on 08-APR-2013 13:22:20
Copyright (c) 1997, 2011, Oracle. All rights reserved.
    Used parameter files:
    /apps/oracle/network/sqlnet.ora
Used EZCONNECT adapter to resolve the alias
    Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION=(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=10.3.55.34)(POR..... etc.....
In this case, it is resolved from EZCONNECT.
This then led us to look at the sqlnet.ora on both our development and production environments, and this is where we found a difference.
In our development environment in sqlnet.ora, we had -
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (LDAP, TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
But in our production environment in sqlnet.ora we had -
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (LDAP, TNSNAMES)
Thus when we changed our sqlnet.ora in our production environment to include EZCONNECT - ie.
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (LDAP, TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
Then when we retried the DBCA create, we did not receive this ORA-00119 / ORA-00132 error with parameter REMOTE_LISTENER.
Anyway, this was the solution to my problem. Hope it helps others.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • DBCA error adding a new instance to a RAC.

    Hi all,
    I'm facing the following problem:
I'm running Oracle Clusterware & RAC 11.2.0.2 over Solaris SPARC 64.
I've two servers for a RAC. I recently added one new server.
addNode.sh works fine, and I want to add a new instance with dbca. Everything seems to be fine, but when I want to select my database to add the instance dbca runs into the following error:

Connection to the database failed. Please sure that service "node01-vip:1521:rac1" is registered with the listener, username system has SYSDBA privilege, password is correct and then try again".
My RAC Database is up and running, I run the following command with cluvfy to check database configuration readiness (what should be accomplish, because is running!)

  • DBCA ERROR WHILE CREATING A DATABASE

While creating a RAC database using DBCA, DBCA gave the folling error -
"Virtual IP address is not configured for cluster node "pdb1". Run
"/opt/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oracle/bin/vipca" as "root" user to configure
it before performing the "create Database opration"
I couldn't find vipca in oracle home.
So, i started vipca from crs home as a root user and i got the following error
    while configuring the VIP -
" CRS-0211: Resource 'ora.pdb1.vip' has already been registered"
    Thanks,

A bit old but still useful info for Raw Device

If you are using 10gR2 consider use ASM instead.

  • DBCA errors and do not create DB

While I try to create DB using Oracle 9i DBCA, I get error that /etc/oratab file doesn't exist and do not create DB on Unix tru64.
I already have many DBs on the server, I need to create a small test DB.
I see the oratab file exist but is renamed with suffix like oratab_h
now how do I point DBCA to that oratab file. I dont want other db to be disturbed if i run root.sh file.
any suggestions, shall rename the oratab to original name or run root.sh? what the best solution.
This looks like Oracle RAC version of DB Software.
When i open DBCA i get option like:
What type of database would you like to create or administer?
    1) Oracle cluster database
    2) Oracle Single instance database
I found no diff in both the options to create DB.
    Appreciate sugestions.
    Thanks

  • Dbca - error before instance is built

    Hello
I am new to this (as you might have guesed) and tried to install RAC 10g (10.2.01) several times but always receive the same errors (in german):
    PRKR-1008
Instances [testdb11,testdb12] on node [ill_srac1,ill_srac2] on cluster databse "testdb1", PRKR-1008: Instance testdb12 on node ill_srac2 could not be added to cluster database testdb1. could not be added
    after pressing OK
PRKR-1001: Cluster database tetdb1 is not present
then I am back in the last window (16 of 16) of dbca
    How did I do it:
    Installing according to
    http://www.dbasupport.com/oracle/ora10g/RACingAhead0301.shtml (thaks by the way)
trying it with two win2k3 nodes
    on VMWare ESX.
    What was different
I dont have access to the vmx files so the disk caching is not deactivated (does that matter?)
While installing clusterware there is an error to copy the following files to c:\windows\system32\drivers:
    ocfs.sys
    orafencedrv.sys
    orafenceservice.sys
got around that error by copying it manually from node1 to node2 and pressing retry
it says there should be a log in cfgtoollogs\dbca\testdb1, but nothing there.
    Any Ideas, other logs?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    I have the same problem.
    My Config (Testsystem):
    Oracle 10gR2 (10.2.0.1)
    VMWare Workstation 5.5 (Trial)
    Windows Server 2003
    1 Shared Disk with OCFS
    2-Nodes RAC
I believe it doesn't matter if disk-caching is disabled or not (for a Testsystem).
    I couldn't disable disk-caching too.
While I installed OCFS2 I faced the problem you described already. Manually I copied the files to Node2 (ocfs.sys, orafencedrv.sys, orafenceservice.sys). Everything ok.
Until I started the DBCA in order to install the database.
My error is ( in german too ;-) ):
Instances [racdb1] on Node [rac1] from Clusterdatabase [racdb]
PRKR-1008: Add Instances [racdb1] on Node [rac1] on Clusterdatabase [racdb] failed
CRS-0211: Resource [ora.racdb.racdb1.inst] is registered already. Adding resource failed.
By searching Metalink I found some hints.
They told, that the resource ora.[MyNode1].vip has not enough privileges.
    So I used:
    ..\crs\bin\crs_getperm ora.MyNode1.vip
    Name: ora.MyNode1.vip
    owner:nt-autorit-t\system:rwx,prgrp::---,other::r--
    Adding more privileges:
    ..\crs\bin\crs_setperm ora.MyNode1.vip -u user:administrator:rwx
I repeat these steps with ora.MyNode2.vip
Trying the DB-Installation again I received the same error.
Maybe it will help you or give you a clou for the next step.
Would be nice if you can tell me what kind of privileges your resources have. Cause, what I don't understand is that my primarygroup (prgrp) is empty? And there are no settings (rwx).
So, please tell me new ideas.
    Thanks.
    Best regards

Can anyone pls help me out to solve this query??
    Thanks in anticipation.

At which point did it occur to you that Windows 7 was developed and released after any version of Oracle 10g and was both uncertified and untested on this platform? ;)
10g will fall off the cliff into desupport in just two weeks. Toss it out and install 11.2.0.1.

FYI - I have installed the OUI patch Oracle Universal Installer release 2.2.0.18.0 for Windows and the Oracle9i Database Release 2 (9.2.0.3.0) Patch Set for Windows after I installed the 9.2.0.1 database software.
I then tried to run the DBCA tool from the 'Start > Programs>Oracle 9ihome>' menu to create the new Oracle 9.2.0.3 database but the DBCA assistant would not start up.
    2. I have a related question:
Has anybody performed a downgrade of Oracle 10g database to Oracle 9.2.0.3 database using export/import?
Can you perform a full database export of the Oracle 10g database using the 9.2.0.3 export utility and then perform a full database import into Oracle 10g? I have read some documentation that states this is not possible. Can anyone verify or confirm how they did this migration? So is the only option then to perform a table or user level export?
Also, if both the databases reside on the same Windows 2003 server box, how can you ensure that the source database files are not overwritten?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vishal.

It only happens when you have oracle 10g and Oracle 9i on the same machine.
You can run 9i dbca successfully, if you rename the 10g "orasrvm.DLL" found in any 10g BIN directory. Rename it back after you are 9i dbca is complete.
Please complete details for this issue see

  • RAC installation error

    Hi!
Can anyone help me with this one?
I have trying to installa RAC 10g R2 in Windows Server 2008 R2. I am encountering the error below:
OUI-35073: Exception occured while starting service in the remote nodes. Could not start the service 'OracleClusterVolumeService' in the remote cluster
nodes. The specified service does not exist as an installed service

    Hi,
same as your other posts. Please have a look at the documentation and search for the RAC Starter Kits in support.oracle.com.
I believe you have a general setup problem in your environment.
Please post some more information, than just the error. Otherwise it is hard to help you.
    Regards
    Sebastian

  • Oracle 10g DBCA error - not enough space on root?

    Im running Oracle 10g on HP-UX 11i.
Oracle software is installed ok. Already created a database succesfully. I have now deleted that database and am creating a new one using dbca.
When I get to the final step I get the following error:
You do not have enough free disk space to create the database. You need at least 785,408KB on /, you only have 753,664KB available please allocate more free disk space.
The above is true but I am not putting any datafiles/ redo logs etc on root they are on a separte logical volume. Why does it need all this space on root? I cant add any more space to root anyway as I cant unmount root and extend it.
Cant find anything about this in the oracle documentation, I can only think my oracle software install has got messed up causing this strange error?
    Can anyone help? Thanks.

When you create database with DBCA, it gives a few options like General purpose, OLTP, etc.
Did you pick same options both the time?

Please help me to resolve this problem.

The message says "contact Oracle support." Why didn't you?
Because, I presume, you know that you are trying to create a totally unsupported environment.
Throw away the VMWare, go to Oracle VM on Oracle Enterprise Linux and you will find a much happier experience.
Happier too because RAC on Windows is not a pretty sight when it comes to transparent failover.
But please help me out with some of what you posted
    1. Did you run the cluster verify tool? Post the full results
    2. Did you create VIPs?
    3. Can you ssh unchallenged between the two machines?
