10.2 No Playback After Update - solved

HI
just in case anyone else gets this ... Had me stumped for a bit .
updated to Yosemite from Mavericks so I could use FCP 10.2. Among other things I also updated my Audio interface driver ( Apogee One ) and tested it it. Worked fine.
Updated FCP X along with ProVideo updates.
it launched fine and worked in all respects except it would play anything .! Hitting play gave a 3 sec. Beach ball then the app sat there . Nothing!nActivity Monitor showed FCP X using 100% CPU.
Messed around a lot ... permissions, prefs all that ... To no effect.
FInally I uninstalled and reinstalled the Apogee audio drivers  and all came good.
maybe this might help  if you are having a similar issue,
best

Download and reinstall OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 Combo Update if you upgraded an existing Yosemite system. Otherwise, do this:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Premiere pro CC drop playback after update 7.2.1

Why premiere pro cc drop playback after update 7.2.1? I have a MacBook Pro late 2011 with ATI Radeon HD6770m 1GB. Premiere pro cc 7.1.0 run normal, ok, without crashing and drop-freeze frame, but after update 7.2.1 i have all this problems.

Just came on here to post about the buzzing transitions, glad to see it's been fixed already!
Another thing though I don't see mentioned, since moving to 7.2 I find audio playblack is out of sync while editing, and in some clips significantly more noticeably than others. This only happens during playback, if I pause and scrub manually, the audio is perfectly in sync. This actually messed up a  project for a client. I thought the audio off the camera was  out of sync in one segment so I bumped it a few frames before exporting. Didn't check it after of course and sent him the file, then got a reply back that it was out of sync in that spot. Check the exported video and sure enough, he was right. Check it again in project but it looks in sync. So I bump the audio back in the timeline so that it LOOKS out of sync again during playback, but the new exported video is perfectly in sync!
Editing a TV show now with hundreds of clips and it's maddening with some looking fine, some looking a little off, and some looking completely off and having to manually scrub to check and be sure along the way.
Hopefully this is also fixed in this update..will see tomorrow.

  • Grey screen after update (Solved)

I solved this one myself eventually, but it took several hours.
After updating one of the MacBook Pros in my office, the computer was stuck at the grey screeb (Apple Logo and spinning wheel) and would not progress.
    1) First I rebooted the computer (no luck)
    2) Then I booted from an install DVD and checked for errors (no errors reported)
    3) Then I did a "repair permissions", which did find and repair some permissions
3a) Then I repeated the "verify disk" which again reported no errors.
    4) Then I rebooted in safe mode, but it still would not progress past the grey screen.
    5) Then I rebooted in verbose mode, and saw the error that LoginWindow was crashing.
    6) I rebooted in Single User Mode, since I am familiar with Unix and Linux.
I looked in the /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/ folder, and there were a LOT of files with loginwindow-timestamp-computername.dump where timestamp is the date/time of the crash and computername is the name of the computer.
The most recent of these reports that a library /usr/lib/libbz2.1.0.dylib is missing.
I looked on a different MacBook Pro, and behold ls -l tells me that libbz2.1.0.dylib should be a symbolic link to libbz2.1.0.5.dylib (the newer file DOES exist on the machine that will not boot)
The following steps will be "scary" for anyone not familiar with Unix / Linux command line, but they resulted in the computer booting
    mount -w /
(remount the hard disk with write permissions)
    cd /usr/lib
(change to the folder with the missing file pointer)
    ln -s libbz2.1.0.5.dylib libbz2.1.0.dylib
    (create the missing symbolic link)
    reboot
    (command to restart the computer)
    and IT WORKED
The computer in question is now working, and reports that it is running version 10.5.8

    Hello,
I've had this problem twice, and each occurred after a security update.
What helped me was the following:
-Take out your powercord and your battery. Press the power button for about 5 seconds.
-Then, insert your battery and powercord, start the computer, and hold down AppleCTRL+PR.
From what I understand, one of these two steps resets the power management system on the macbook.
After you perform these two steps, your computer may still hang at the grey screen with the apple logo. However! Let it hang for about 5-10 minutes and it will automatically restart, and boot properly.
You can also try calling Apple support on your friend's behalf ... they were more than helpful.

  • Help with video playback after updating to 3.1

Hi there, after updating to 3.1 on my 2nd gen iPod Touch, I restored it and loaded some videos I converted. On playing those files, the video would play normally until at a random point the video frame would freeze, while the audio continues to play. If I quit the video app and go back to the video, it would play again normally for maybe 1 minute and then the video frame would freeze again, while audio still continues.
These video files were working perfectly before I updated to 3.0, so I doubt that there is a problem with the files. Could someone suggest what I should do in this situation? Should I revert the firmware back to what it was before updating to 3.0?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I have the same issue, except that if I let it go on for a few secomds the video eventually catches up. I am also watching converted videos, and mine are in mp4 format. I haven't tried m4v yet but this is still a bug that Apple should fix.

  • Premiere choppy playback after update

    Greetings,
I'm having a rather bizarre issue which has just came about recently.
I've been running PPro CC successfully for six months without issue. After the most recent update to 7.2.2 I'm having choppy playback both in the source and program monitors. I'm editing mostly AVCHD from a Panasonic HMC80 camera. The choppy playback occurs regardless of resolution or frame rate. I even tried a standard DV file and that too is playing back not smooth. Changing the playback resolution to 1/2, 1/4 etc.. makes no difference.  Changing from Mercury software to hardware makes no difference. I tried creating a new project as well as clearing cache files, previews, etc.. and still have the problem. As a last effort, I re-installed my OS, and re-installed Creative Cloud and Premiere. The issue is still present. My hardware cannot be the issue as I've been editing successfully before. Nothing has changed except for the Premiere update. I've read elsewhere that others are experiencing the same issue. Any thoughts?

    NVIDIA GT 425M

Im having the same problem. Didnt show up until after the 7.2 update.
Major lag on one specific spot in the timeline, and muting all tracks makes no difference on the lag.
I cleaned my project file, caches, downgraded playback resolution, tried the mercury playback function. Nothing. Now the choppiness seems to bleed into the rest of the project until it is all so slow and unplayable. I'm having a harder time finishing this project as time goes on.

  • KDE Desktop disappeared after update [SOLVED]

    Hiya folks,
I have just updated my system with pacman -Syu. There were several kde updates, among others, and now, upon reboot, the desktop is completely blank: no taskbar, clock, wallpaper, icons, etc... All I see after logging in to the desktop environment is a black screen and a mouse cursor. I can still fire up programs using Alt+F2, internet works and everything else seems fine, but no desktop or launcher. I have tried downgrading packages (kdebase-plasma and kdebase-workspace), but to no avail, and figured I would ask for help before any more blind downgrades. If it changes anything, virtualbox-ose was also updated.
As an aside, I have been using Arch since last January and this the first time I have encountered a problem I could not solve by browsing the wiki or forums. This is an awesome distribution and community.
    Thanks in advance,
    François

Rename the ~/.kde4/ directory (maybe .kde4.old or .kde4.backup) and try logging back in. That should create new configuration files and you'll (hopefully) have a usable desktop. Then you can copy over any application configs (Kmail, Amarok, etc)

  • Itunes choppy audio playback after update of software...no help in site!!!!

I have updated my itunes in the past month and am getting ready to abandon itunes all together (though I have loved it up until now!) All of my audio plays back so choppy you can not make out one word of any song. I purchase quite a bit of music and it is now useless! I have gone onto the web and spent hours searching for help only to discover there are lots of people out there with the same problem and apple seems to be doing nothing. I found another couple post on the forums with no reponse. I did find after some research on google that you should adjust the sample/bit rate on quicktime and it should help, this is not true. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE could someone from itunes/apple team give me a solution for my purchased songs?
Dell Xps 410   Windows XP Pro

We apparently have a major problem with "Paid for" merchandise that is NOT being supported by itunes/Apple
My hope here is that this site IS being moderated by some apple techs, but I am not seeing much. If you dig into the archives of this message board you will see a few of us out there that have been trying to get this resolved for a while and there are NO replies to their messages. Also I would like to state that apple makes it nearly impossible to find a good e-mail address that would go to anybody for help. We need to try and keep this topic on top of the message board to get it looked at by the right person. I don't understand the computer being under resourced though, I am running a dual processor and have 2 gig of ram.... my audio never plays correctly now regardless of itunes being opened alone of with any other applications. I NEED TO HAVE MY PAID FOR MUSIC BACK!
sorry-- had to get that off my chest.
    Thanks for your support

  • LibFreeBoB problem after update [solved]

    Hi everyone. First post
    I just did
    yaourt -Syu --aur
which pulled in a new version of libfreebob and a new kernel (standard, not rt). I'm using MPD with JACK through my Firepod. Playback was perfect before but now it has dropouts and the following error appears repeatedly.
LibFreeBoB ERR: Dropped packets on connection 1
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
    Update:
I installed jack-svn and changed to libffado-svn and everything seems to be ok.

  • Browsers crash after update (SOLVED - sort of)

After pacman -Syu today, Midori and Epiphany both crash when I try to use the Google search bar.
Firefox seems to be working OK.
Is this happening to anybody else?
    ====================================
Edit: This morning I had another update:
    upgraded libwebkit (1.1.15.1-1 -> 1.1.15.2-1)
And now Midori and Epiphany don't bomb on me when I access Google.
So that must've been the one that had a problem of some kind.
Anyway, I'm back to "normal" again, so Thank-you very much to the mysterious forces who fixed this!

  • Help with a server - crashed after update -SOLVED

    Hi everybody.
at the school where I study,. its the student who´ll take cake of the network, and now we have a really big problem...
After an pacman -Syu, (by an older student) one of the servers crashe. Its the only one that´s been updatet. Its run f.i. Apache , stunnel and up against an LDap server.
The problem is that the only way you can get into it, is in single user mode. At normal boot at the login-menu - we could type in the username and passwd, but the machine is too long to validate the passwd so it times out. thats also when you trying to lock in as root. And we cant start Apache(Even though we selv compiled it, and not did a pacman on that one.)  But I´m not into arch that much yet, so hoefully someone can give me a hint about what went wrong during the updates..
But the worst part about that one is, that everything goes by that one, so we cant get in på using ssh..  But after 7 hours trying and studying the net - we didn´t get anywhere. and we don´t have a clue what to do ...
looking in the logfiles do not show anything unusual....
in normalboot at the login screen, after ca. 40sek. the message comes :
The server died unexpectet... thats it
So please help with this one - if anyone have a clue what went wrong..

    Heya,
have you tried using a knoppix-cd or another live-cd to have a look at the system or isn't that a possibility?
You can also login by adding the following kernelparameter: init=/bin/sh
However, I'm not sure how to mount the partitions then.
I'm guessing that the message "server died unexpectedly" is coming from a certain server-process (not the machine). Do you know which process and have you had a look at the logfiles (if there are any) of that process?
You can have a look at the output of the "dmesg"-command maybe if it is kernel-related (I think).
You say it isn't overridden. Are you sure? You can tell pacman to not override packages or certain files, but you have to mention it in the "/etc/pacman.conf"-file.
    Hopes this helps you,
    greetings,
    Michel

  • Help Please: Can't run 1280 x 1024 after update (Solved)

My display has changed to 1024 x 768, and my monitor is not listed in gnome display settings.  Was working fine up until only minutes ago.  Display went to sleep while I was away and when I woke it the settings were changed.
    What can I do?
    Thank you. Brian
    Edit:
After looking around I think my xorg.conf file changed.
When I re-run 'Xorg -configure' it returns an error stating that the number of screens detected does not match...
The current log file Xorg.0.log [1], an old log file Xorg.12.0.log [2], and the log from the configure command above Xorg.configure.log [3] can be viewed here.

With these, I'm not sure running "xrandr -s 1280x1024" will work.
I think you need to use something like:
    Section "Monitor0"
    Identifier "VGA-1"
    Modeline "1280x1024_75.00" 138.75 1280 1368 1504 1728 1024 1027 1034 1072 -hsync +vsync
    Option "PreferredMode" "1280x1024_75.00"
    EndSection
Use the "official" modeline calculator to get the Modeline (refresh rates from the manufacturer website, I hope), restart X, and there you have it. It worked for someone once: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=140496

  • Soft RAID won't boot after update [solved]

Hi everyone, I broke my system with an upgrade and have realised I have no idea what I'm doing at the ramfs prompt at all. The deal is this:
    /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 are (were?) RAID1 /boot
    /dev/sda2 /dev/sdb2 /dev/sdc2 are RAID1 /swap
    /dec/sda3 /dev/sdb3 /dec/sdc3 are RAID5/LVM
I did an -Syu which hadn't been done for quite some time and it updated 432 packages. I noted there was a nasty looking warning about dmraid 1.5 so I set that package BACK to 1.4 to be safe. Unfortunately that didn't work, clearly, as I have encountered the problem I was trying to avoid. It appears to not be able to find any of the /dev/md* devices on boot and I get dumped at the ramfs prompt.
    [edit] Specifically I get:
md: Will configure md0 (super-block) from /dev/sda3,/dev/sdb3,/dev/sdc3, below.
    md: Loading md0: /dev/sda3
md: open failed - cannot start array /dev/md0
    :: Running Hook [raid-partitions]
md: Will configure md0 (super-block) from /dev/sda3,/dev/sdb3,/dev/sdc3, below.
    md: Loading md0: /dev/sda3
md: open failed - cannot start array /dev/md0
Root device '/dev/mapper/array-root' doesn't exist, attempting to create it
I can mount my drives but I still don't really know what to fix. I tried putting the 1.5 dmraid in. That hasn't helped yet.
Can someone point me some tips in the right direction?

Thanks saharchie, the live CD really helped. I can't do mount --bind in the emergency console so I couldn't figure out how to get the devfs remounted inside my chroot, but it seems that wasn't too hard in the live cd.
Also B, it was a year ago in October the system was installed. I haven't updated since then because of Python 2.6 issues with the vast quantity of department software. Yes, I guess that Arch probably wasn't the ideal choice for such a machine, but I do like it so
Anyway I appear to have magically found the issue. I think it is less of a dmraid update problem and more of an Arch update problem (or at least a feature change I was unaware of). The fix was editing /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and removing 'raid' and 'raid-partitions' from HOOKS and replacing it with 'mdadm', I then removed the md=0,... parameters from the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst, and did a grub->root(hd0),setup(hd0,0) then did pacman -U kernel26... to reinstall the kernel which did all the initcpio magic for me, this time everything was found and it went merrily on its way.
